A nice spot in downtown Frankfort. A nice mixture of old timey feel and modern. I came in planning on only getting one scoop. However I couldn't decide so I got one scoop of Apple Crisp and one of Cow Tipping! Apple Crisp is obviously an apple taste with a cinnamon in the mix. It works in ice cream form, it was delicious. The Cow Tipping is vanilla with chocolate chunks and swirls of carmel. This was very good too, though I preferred the Apple Crisp. The service was very good and moved at a good pace. Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? Yes I would. I went back and was going to get a scoop of Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream. However they were out, so I got a chocolate shake instead. We went here 2x. We had a very different experience each time. The first day we both had single scoops and received HUGE scoops. They were delicious!!! We went back 2 days later and my husband got a single scoop, nothing for me. His scoop was so small and not worth the $5.50 they charged. It this had been our 1st time it would have been the last. Employees routinely wear super thin shorts with thongs. When they bend over to scoop the icecream a whole lot of butt cheeks hangs out the back. So, if you don't mind your husband and kids getting an eyefull of ass while you get icecream, then this is the place for you! read more

I can't imagine anything that I could say that has not already been said. All the positive reviews written by others mirrors our experiences. Love the choice of flavors as well as the choices of preparations (cones, sundaes, milkshakes, malts, etc.). We rode our bikes here from Beulah on the Betsie Valley Trail. We refreshed ourselves with milkshakes before heading back. Great tree outside the shop to sit under (on the curb) while enjoying the street scene (they blocked off the street for the weekend). The ice cream is good. Staff is usually dissatisfied with you walking in the door. The person who made my food let out a large sigh when we walked in. They attempt to do açaí bowls, but you get half a cup of the most bland pre-packed açaí mixture and the toppings are poured over rather than placed side by side. read more

This place is awesome. Love the colorful interior, so fun, the people who work there appear to love what they do, they make great milkshakes (they actually use a blender unlike the place down the street that basically gives you a cup of ice cream and calls it a shake) - AND, best of all, they have ice cream sodas - the old fashioned kind - on the menu and know how to make 'em. I went to the cool spot yesterday. I saw that they had açaí bowls and was very excited to try one. I ordered one and waited 20 minutes for it. Once my other family members got theirs it did not look appetizing at all. I tried it and it was gross. Don't get the açaí bowls. The açaí tasted like it was frozen and the fruit was frozen. We asked for a refund and they did refund us. If you want ice cream it is probably good but don't get the açaí. read more

A great local owned and operated treat store with ice cream, fudge, drinks and free WIFI. I went to Michigan on vacation and realized there are few options for Internet but this place had free WIFI so we stopped by and tried some of the ice cream and fudge. We sat and checked email, enjoyed the food and spoke with the owners who are teachers that do this in the Summer months. I really do love this place. It's a good ice cream place, and the food and service is always great. My only gripe throughout the years has been that I wish that they would take credit cards. Each summer I come back and walk in, and have to walk right back out because I rarely carry cash anymore. Even a simple Square register? iPhone app? We had gotten pastries and coffee from the bakery a few doors down and sat at a table outside this establishment to eat. 10:30 in the morning, completely empty. An unfriendly, sour faced employee came out and told us it was private property and we couldn't sit there. No apologizes just an unfriendly, unkind miserable person. This is a tourist town that is supposed to be welcoming. We were floored someone would kick us out. Plus we had gotten ice cream the previous evening from here. This is not the Cool Spot. This was an adorable little family-run ice cream shop in town! Each flavor was an authentic, unique blend and I particularly LOVED the Lemon Cheesecake Bar- one of the best ice cream flavors I have ever had. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!! WISH I COULD GET MY MONEY BACK!! While vacationing in Frankfort last year we stumbled upon this shop. This year we decided to go back and my family and I were immediately met with xenophobic comments by the workers along with dirty looks. The ice cream was extremely mediocre and we found lint and paper towel in it. The worker, Peggy, was extremely rude when we asked for napkins and spoke the word "bitch" under her breathe to the short brunette worker. They knew as soon as they saw a muslim family that they were going to treat us with no respect and it carried on for the whole experience. Would definitely never go back!! read more

This place is amazing! I have been coming to Frankfort for over 5 years now, and it beats out everything else.

A longstanding business in Frankfort, of all of the ice cream places in town The Cool Spot will always be my favorite. They have both ice cream and soft serve which is nice for those of us who aren't so fond of really heavy ice cream. There aren't a huge variety of flavors offered, but they make up for it with toppings, serving size, and custom-ability. If you ask, they'll pretty much put anything on that you want. Staff are pleasant, patient, and fun to talk with. You can't really get any more bang for your buck than at the cool spot - added bonus, they sell fudge and salt water taffy. Its amazing and they have these cool spot coolers which are diet 7-up soft serve and I always have them add raspberries, but you can change it to make it what ever you want.
