Charming location just off the main drag of River St. The small shop offers a good chance to chat with regulars while you wait. Order ahead if you can. Super busy as soon as the doors open. That's how you know it's the good stuff. Hard-working owners keep the line rolling along nicely. Tried the sourdough Pullman and the Butter Bowl, both delicious. Can't wait to dig into my plate-sized cookie and my "Not a Donut." Prices very reasonable. read more

Holy smokes. Get here early, as they sell out of a lot of the hits. Got some cookies, some rolls, and some bread. The butter bread was incredible. Cookies were gigantic and had a nice chew. They also had some ridiculous berry scones. Could not recommend a trip enough. read more

I had the best vegan soup of my life here. Oven roasted tomato and corn curry, I think it was! So unique and flavorful. Ordered a quart and it came with almost half a loaf of bread, which I was pleasantly surprised by-- very filling meal for two. My only complaint, which isn't a complaint at all because it just goes to show their quality, is that they are always super busy and there is typically a line! Truly worth the wait though. read more

This is a quick in and out you don't want to miss in Manistee. The cinnamon rolls were a feast they were so big! Light and fluffy, perfectly baked, plenty of cinnamon and brown sugar, and a perfect amount of frosting on top. The oatmeal raisin walnut cookie was perfectly dense and moist. They were old fashioned goodness, no weird new wave flavors, simply delicious. Wish our home in CA wasn't so far because I'd stop baking and go here instead! read more

Tip - get there early, but not too early because they just keep bringing out tray after tray of intoxicating baked bread and sweets. Today we picked up country fresh bread, olive bread, cinnamon bread (essentially a giant cinnamon roll - so good), walnut sticky buns, and cheese biscuits (so savory and decadent) around 8:30 and they were still bringing out trays of fresh bread and treats. The service is friendly and meticulous. Their packaging is perfect and the taste of everything out of that place is incredible. I stopped at this bakery for the first time about 3 days ago. It is a family run operation, and the food shows the tremendous amount of care that this family has for the quality of food that they produce. My wife and I have stopped back in every day that we have been in Manistee. We stocked up today as they will not be open tomorrow when we leave. We sampled a lot of variety during our 3 visits. The Cheese Cake - OMG I have only had cheese cake this delicious, when my grandma made it for me over 40 years ago. (that could just be a fond memory as it was so long ago) It was cheesy, cakey the GC crust was perfect! Not to sweet and yet it explodes with flavor in your mouth with each bite. Wonderfully executed! The Orange Brioche was very delicate and filled with flavor - like a donut only better, again perfectly sweet but tastefully done. We bought fresh whole grain bread the first trip to make tomato sandwiches and OMG the nuttiness was a perfect compliment! In all we tried 12 different products in 3 days time - way more than we would normally do with a bakery....even different bakeries. I almost forgot, the people that own this place are very helpful, caring and seem genuinely excited to see each customer. Get there early though as they are not friendly because they are lonely. These guys did not get a break during the hour I spent there this morning eating my breakfast and sipping their delicious coffee. As the chefs brought out tray after tray of fresh baked goods. Yes! You CAN get a great baguette in Manistee :) Stopped in for the first time today. The baguette is perfect! Crusty on the outside soft and slightly sweet on the inside, with the perfect crumb structure. This is a legit baguette!! I also had a brownie, shortbread cookie... Delicious. The bake house soft rolls are just the right amount of sweet and yeasty. It's like a little French Patisserie in northern Michigan, thank you, thank you, thank you! read more

A real treat! There is an incredible variety of breads that varies day by day, delicious scones, and other yummy indulgences including brownies and lemon squares. A must-stop if you're in town. My personal favorites are the Very Berry scones and the French onion bread. The scone is a perfect morning/afternoon treat. The kind woman behind the counter offered a sample both times I visited. I have one complaint. Sometimes I can't get there until rather late and they are sold out of what I want, but that's really a great thing because you know that everything is absolutely fresh. I'm rather picky about bread and do not make a trip to Ann Arbor without stopping at Zingerman's Bake House. The Daily Bake House is a close second in the bread department and superior in the sweet pastries. I have never liked scones. I always thought that they were these dry flavorless things that the British somehow manged to boil all the flavor out of, but I just love the scones from the DBH, fresh, soft, buttery and filled with the thing of the day...maybe raisins, maybe cranberries, maybe blueberries. And let me tell you about the oatmeal raisin cookies, absolutely the best and if it doesn't look like there are enough raisins in one, she'll give you another. I'm not sure, but I think that the hours are now 8-5, not a pictured, but the picture of the display cabinet shows that they were sold out of a number of things when it was taken. Best time to get there, 10-12 AM and a lot of times the bread will still be warm out of the oven. read more

I am visiting Manistee for vacation with family. Woke up early and got here just after the shop opened. There were a wide variety of baked goods to choose from. I picked a sampling of several different things: blueberry/raspberry scones; orange/blueberry/raspberry muffins; praline sticky buns; orange brioche; cinnamon bread; and raisin pecan bread. The raisin pecan bread was still hot. Everything was delicious. My family was thrilled to have delicious fresh-baked breads and pastries for breakfast. I would highly recommend this bakery to anyone staying in Manistee. read more

My only complaint is that they're not open 24 hours! First of all the owners are absolutely great people. Very friendly, generous, and accommodating. Secondly, all the product they sell is top notch. Like the best bakery products that I've ever had. I used to work in a Southern diner owned by a lady from Arkansas that was known locally (not Manistee) for her buttermilk biscuits. People would come from miles around for them. The biscuits at The Daily BakeHouse are in another league. You simply will not find a better biscuit anywhere. All of their breads are just as amazing. From the simple farmers loaf (white bread) to the most off the wall, full of nuts and grains artisan masterpiece that Michael has come up with. The loud music coming from the kitchen is a sign of a master baker hard at work, and we love it! The husband and wife team have taken on a challenge in Manistee, and from what I can tell, considering that they sell out of everything on weekends, is that they've made a good impression with not only us, but the other clientele who appreciate a finely crafted bakery selection! Absolutely great bread! This place is the best kept secret in Manistee, if not northern Michigan. Located off of the main drag on a side street, this converted old house feels a bit like Europe. We just had bread pudding and tea, though we came in for the fantastic French rolls which we will take home. The bread pudding was excellent. We have had many different breads here - all have been outstanding with a crustiness, texture and consistency that you normally only find in Europe. We have lived in Europe and have found few bakeries that can get it right when it comes to bread in the states. This place has it. Enjoy! read more

I have never written a review but this place deserves one. My wife and I were in town for the week and we stumbled upon The Daily BakeHouse. We then stopped there everyday that we were in town, including on our way home in order to take some bread home. I have always had an obsession with bread and this place has, without any doubt, the greatest bread I have ever had in my life. We have a lot of bakery's in Chicago where we live and none compare. The soup was a delicious compliment to the bread and the sweet treats tied it all together. The owners offered some of the best hospitality that we experienced while we were in town. My wife and I are food junkies and ate out for every meal and this is the only place that I will dearly miss. I only wish that we didn't live in Chicago so I could visit this daily.
