Stayed on the south side of TC my last visit and was within walking distance of Potters. This place got packed in the morning and for good reason! Their donuts either sell out or get slim pickings for choices if you come later. we got a nice variety though and they were delicious! I heard Potter's was the place to get donuts while in Traverse City but the added bonus was half-off Sundays! They open at 7 am so get there early- locals told me they sell out fast! I was there about 7:30 and got through the line quickly with still a ton of options. The sour cream was my fav but sprinkles were at the top of my kids list. Stopped at Potter's Bakery this morning on our way home to Indiana. As I'm about two bites into my donut I see mold growing all over the bottom of the donut. Extremely concerning to digest mold, but the fact that I'm pregnant really puts the cherry on top. Ruined the whole box of donuts. read more

They specialize in doughnuts, cookies, cakes and muffins. I recommend the cookies and the doughnuts. For cookies, I look for molasses or date swirl. I have a photo collection of cookies I get here! Often they have been using more printed methods for cookies but, I adore their hand piped designs. Seeing the baker's skill makes the 5ish dollars per cookie worth it. The young women working there are always smiley and happy to help. Best bakery in TC! read more

Stopped here for donuts and pastry when running around in the morning. A cool old school bakery / donut shop that should not be missed. Very friendly and helpful service and excellent treats. My wife loved her custard Bismarck and the pecan pastry was truly next-level if you enjoy that pecan sticky bun life. And I do! I was recommended to visit this place when I was traveling to Traverse City, Michigan and I recommend you to visit them too! I love walking into bakeries and that sweet smell of the pastries hits you in the face, and especially ones like Potters bakery with inviting employees and so soft donuts! I was originally only going to by three donuts and ended up walking out with half a dozen because they all looked so good! The filling in the donuts were plentiful and went well with the donut itself. They have so much more than donuts though that is worth trying for sure. read more

The donuts here are expensive, but very yummy. Tried the apple fritters and they were crispy with a cinnamon sugar coating. The cinnamon roll was fantastic with frosting that wasn't overly sweet. The cake donuts were ho hum so I wish I had tried the sour cream version. We will return to try more! read more

went in to drop off a pre-order list the day before Ash Wednesday for Paczki's. I got there at 2:20pm. was told they cut off pre-orders at 2pm. was never told or advertised this was the case. I'm handicapped and my wife works 13 days in a row. Only sundays off. It's difficult for us. So after 20years, lost a customer. btw, their carrot cake is horrible. 3 generations of bakers in my family. that cake got thrown in garbage. Nope, never again. read more

I ordered a cake over the phone from out of state a month early for a special occasion in MI two hours from TC. I believe the girl's name was Abby who took my order, she sounded thorough over the phone and even checked with the baker to see if my request could be accommodated (1/2 fudge frosting 1/2 white icing). I was charged $100 for cake that is typically $65, I believed this was due to the special frosting request. My dad picked up the cake because he arrived the day of the event. He told me the cake had white frosting and white writing, so you couldn't read the Happy Anniversary that was written. He ask it the writing could be changed and was told "there's nothing that can be done." When I saw the cake 2 hours later I immediately called and asked for a refund. Not only did the cake not have 1/2 fudge frosting, but you could not read the writing. Becky the owner blamed me for the mistake and said nothing could be done because we took the cake. She put me on hold to question the girl who took the order and the person who decorated the cake. She would only refund a portion of the over charged amount. I'm very disappointed with the service and the response of the owner. I love to support local businesses, but beware of this bakery. I will not use this them again in the future. read more

We were in TVC for three days, and stopped here twice! First, they serve Higher Grounds coffee and it's great. They have any type of sweet treat you could want- cake pops, cupcakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, donuts, macaroons, etc. Everything we had was good, but the fried cinnamon rolls were the standout. You guys, this place is my windsong. Traditional bakeries are falling to the wayside as Costco cakes are becoming the norm, but Potter's is proof that baking is a craft and an art. We spent a week in TC for vacation and I was rambling down the street to Potter's almost every other day. We bought my son's birthday cake straight from the case and it was so lovely I almost hated to cut it--but I was glad I did because it was one of the most memorable cakes I've ever tasted. Day two was donut day and oh em gee you guys the DONUTS ARE LIFE. These are not your par-baked, reheated factory-fresh Dunkin Donuts. These are made fresh daily using real ingredients. We had chocolate long johns with cherry cream filling and I believe if I'm ever on death row, these will be my last meal request. We sampled other cookies and sweets, but my favorite thing about this gig isn't something in a box or bag or inside a display case--it's THE PEOPLE. Kind, upbeat, friendly, helpful are just a few adjectives to describe all the interactions I had with the staff. Potter's is an absolute gem. read more

the selection here is PHENOMENAL! even for the small bakery they have, they have a great selection with a pretty diverse amount of goods. we got a dozen of donuts, a cookie, a canoli, and baklava, which were all surprisingly delicious and not tasting old at all compared to others experiences, we went around 30ish minutes before closing, and the service was great, very friendly and patient, for a first time trying this, it was great. though i do have to say, the donuts aren't very sweet, which is nice if your not a fan of super sweet things, but for a donut to not be sweet? thats like the whole point. definitely a great bakery but its not anything mind blowing. if you don't like super sweet baked goods, this is definitely a good choice for you. the atmosphere was nice and it was very clean and nicely decorated inside, even having a few different gifts to buy. read more

Potters has been around for a long time I've known the family just as long. They were good friends with my parents. I have been baking for years. This is always been our favorite place to get baked goods on Sundays after church and anytime, they make the best everything, cakes to bread to cookies to donuts stop by you'll be glad you did. It's sad to see family owned businesses cutting corners on the quality of ingredients. These cut out sugar cookies don't even have butter in them, instead they have 3 different types of inflammatory oils. And let me tell you, I bought them for an event and everyone said they were NOT tasty. You could get better quality from a local grocery store bakery. This bakery was the perfect little stop on our road trip! We were originally going to go to a different donut shop but saw a recommendation for potters and decided to go with fate and check this out. WE ARE SO HAPPY WE DID! The staff was incredibly kind and helpful and the donuts...... were absolutely amazing. We tried the old fashioned, lemon poppy seed, chocolate raised, a jelly and custard Bismark and all were remarkable but the real show stopper that sold us was the nutty donut. It was moist, perfectly cooked and covered in some sort of cashew coconut crumble. I'm not sure I will ever find a donut this good again! read more

On Sunday Potter's has 1/2 off all day old donuts, which is a great deal because their donuts are expensive and still expensive at 1/2 off. Today I went to pick up some day old donuts and when I got home and had one they were horrible! They tasted more like 2 or 3 day old donuts. I don't think I'll be back. read more

This review is based on the donuts! They are awesome. I had the chocolate cake donut with a chocolate glazed cake donut. The glaze is chocolaty and home made tasting. The apple donut had a tan frosting and was moist and delicious. The staff was friendly. There are seats inside to eat your donuts. We took ours to go. They are inexpensive.
