Lakeside breakfast with bacon and sourdough toast
    Bridget K.

I came up to Big Bear lake to stay with a friend and her dad recommended this place. We were a group of four and shared biscuits and gravy, a cinnamon roll, bacon, eggs, hash browns, a chocolate chip pancake, the breakfast burrito with bacon and toast. The breakfast burrito looked the best out of the things we tried. The biscuits and gravy were good! The bacon was way too over cooked and burnt. The eggs were cooked really well and the sourdough toast was great! The chocolate chip pancake was very dense and huge! One was definitely big enough to share! The cinnamon roll was soft and had a good flavor. It was clear that this is a favorite for the locals. The wait staff knew everyone who walked through the door, which was very sweet to see!

The cafe is right across the street from Bear Lake. Although your patio view may be obstructed by parked cars. The service was very friendly and accommodating. The menu had many options to choose from. But, unfortunately none of the flavors really stuck out.

My new favorite breakfast spot up north! Delicious food and fast service! The two girls working were so sweet and funny. My favorite is the loaded hash brown scramble - a little bit of everything! I'll definitely be back.

Great food! Recommend the gravy! Stop by Lakeside for breakfast next time you're in town!

The restaurant is small but cozy; it seems to be a neighborhood staple. I love how well the locals and servers knew each other; everyone was very welcoming. The breakfast was delicious and left my partner and I stuffed. I got a Hippie Omelette with veggies, bacon, and feta, with a side of home fries. If you get the chance to stop through, it's worth it!

This place was absolutely precious! What a cute little hometown diner! The service was a classic hometown feel and I loved how everyone knew everyone. We are up visiting the area and would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a good diner experience with warming service and a clean environment.

Great spot! Eating breakfast at tiny hole in the wall diners is one of my favorite things to do and Lakeside Cafe delivered. Breakfast was good, Service was good, and it does - indeed - reside on the side of the lake with a nice view. Prices felt reasonable too -- welcome thing to see these days. We don't come through here often but wouldn't hesitate to stop again.

We had an awesome Father's Day lunch/brunch today. Misty was our server and very helpful! Food was tasty and good quantity! My son had the chicken and waffles, it was amazing. It was clean and cute. I'd go again to try other things! Oh I had the blueberry pancake . It covered the plate. They supplied sugar free syrup! Go try it.

    Breakfast was perfect and quick.

I recently commented on a $15.00 breakfast at Chef Jarod's and Company that is literally less than 30 second drive and 2 minute walk from each other. Look at the picture and for the same price you decide. You can substitute the biscuits and gravy with pancakes if you wish too. Eggs cooked perfectly to order. Coffee cup continuously filled. This is a busy diner and the wait at the door is well worth it.

Much like the small, quaint little places of yesteryear. Typical diner decorations, typical diner servers, and typical diner patrons. This was textbook. It was super busy when I got there, but by the time I left there was probably a 10-15 minute wait at the door. But you know these breakfast places keep takin' 'em in and puttin' 'em out. Since I absolutely despise anything where all my breakfast foods are mushed together (pizzas, burritos, omelets, scrambles, hitches, macros, and fizzles), I opted for the more traditional route of "food on a plate, maybe touching a little bit." It's kind of like the difference between kissing cousins and married cousins. This episode of breakfast will be brought to you by: chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, American potatoes, bacon, and toast. Special guest, chocolate milk. I'm a little trollop for chicken fried steak. Or really anything fried with a layer of gravy. This one wasn't bad. Had decent flavor, gravy portioning was good. I would welcome it back like a close friend. The eggs were good as well. Since my body can only consume scrambled eggs, anytime they aren't runny or have that weird cooked-too-long skin on them is a win in my book. I would embrace them again like a long lost relative. The American potatoes (or how I always have to ask for them because I can never remember the name "those little potatoes that are chunks"), were good with the ketchup. Cooked the way they were supposed to be. I would sit next to them again on a bus. The bacon. Oh, the bacon. If you're a breakfast place and serve bacon, this will make you or break you in my eyes. The hardest thing I have ever found so far are restaurants that claim to know how to do floppy bacon. Limp bacon. Soggy bacon. Whatever you want to call it. They always claim they know how, then they bring out bacon I could harpoon a fish with. I want bacon I can tie together like shoelaces. Sadly, this bacon missed the mark. I would turn this bacon away at the door. Ultimately, it was a breakfast place. It did what it set out to do. Chocolate milk 10/10 Made up breakfast foods 3/3 Flaccid bacon 5/10

We spent a…read morelong weekend in the Manistee area and got a recommendation to eat at The Glenwood which was just a short drive north from where we were. I called for reservations the day before and found that only very early or very late was available. We also were given an option of seating in the restaurant or on the porch. We chose the porch and early reservation. We were seated at a nice table with a view of Portage Lake. We started with wine, (even though we bought copious amounts of wine on our trip, the wine list couldn't be ignored) my wife enjoying a glass of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc and me a glass of cab. It was recommended we try their Almond Battered Shrimp. This appetizer was served with a cherry mustard sauce that was wonderful. The menu said jumbo shrimp and yes, they were jumbo with that nice "steak like" texture and flavor. For dinner my wife ordered the Whitefish special (Whitefish is on the regular menu but the special preparation was a bit different). This presentation had wilted spinach, onions with a light Parmesan crust. She let me try some and we both agreed this was the best whitefish either of have ever had. I ordered the "Everything Tuna". This was yellowfin tuna with light and dark sesame seeds, poppy seeds. onion, garlic and salt. I ordered it extremely rare (so rare a good vet could resuscitate it) with wasabi. This was a taste sensation. Dinners included broccoli and an excellent salad. The dressing was so good we bought a bottle on the way out. A "loaf" containing four rolls was also included. Our server was Cyrillia and her service was as outstanding as it gets. Often when I'm enjoying service of this calibre, I look around and see if we just got lucky or is everyone getting great service. It seemed that the service standard at The Glenwood is high. On the drive back to our hotel, we tried to come up with restaurants we've enjoyed as much. The list is slim with The Glenwood at or near the top.

We wanted a kid friendly option and came in for the pizza, but ended up being blown away by the massive sandwich menu! Don't be discouraged by the line - it moves FAST!!!! The young people at the register and in the kitchen are efficient and so nice!!! We arrived about half an hour before the sign says pizzas are ready, and the lovely man at the register said "sure!" when we asked if we could order a pizza. The menu has something for everyone - Including plenty of vegetarian options (I think they even had a vegan option). I loved my Griffon, and the meat eaters in our group enjoyed the SS Noronic (a BLT) and the Fitzgerald. Our kids devoured their cheese pizza! They also carry Great Lakes Co Chips, which are some of the best potato chips we've ever had. Our sandwiches were all so inventive with delicious, fresh ingredients, amazing condiments, and the most freshly baked "pretzel rolls" ever. If this place wasn't a vacation stop for us, we'd be back all the time! Our kiddos favorite part, bedsides the pizza, were the tiny plastic swords that came in our sandwiches holding them together. When they each wanted one more sword, we went back inside and the staff inside was so used to kids asking for more tiny swords that their response to "May we have two more swords?" Was "Sure! What colors?!" Very different from what the response would have been where we're from. :) We even came back later in the day for the frozen custard!!! All in all, it was a great experience with great food, great service, plenty of outdoor picnic tables under umbrellas, and something for everyone to eat.

It's pretty small inside but there are a ton of picnic tables in the grassy areas outside. I got the -"three brothers" which was basically an Italian sub with a lot of fresh prosciutto, salami and ham, juicy tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, lots of bell peppers and Italian dressing-delicious! My wife loved the chicken salad wrap (with cherries of course) and couldn't finish it-did I mention the sandwiches are HUGE and a great value. Our order was ready in about 5-10 minutes. The also sell chips and bottled drinks or go next door to the gas station and get a fountain drink. Super friendly and wonderful, high quality food. Definitely recommended
