It's worth your salt to visit Cuppa Joe Westside. It's the kind of coffee shop every neighborhood wishes it had, but few do. Like every decent eatin' place in town, its about more than the food and drink. It's the experience. The coffee is rich and smooth. That's as opposed to the shops whose coffee is so brewed-for-the-masses, it tastes like they put a brown crayon in a cup of hot water. The scones are far and away the best in town. And the staff is down-to-earth amiable. Try this classic combo if you dare: a sixteen-ounce shot-in-the-dark with no space, and an Almond Joy scone. If you need less octane, have a regular coffee. If you don't care for coconut, try a blueberry scone. Or have a day-old scone. They're flavorful, only slightly drier than a fresh scone, and cost less. That's appealing if you're so cheap that you'd steal the pennies off a dead man's eyes. read more

Personable, professional and friendly this is the vibe at Cuppa Joe! I can't speak about the food as I haven't tried it but what I saw it looked great and plentiful. The drinks are tasty as are the baked goods, prices are in line with other coffee shops. The space is a little tight but welcoming. Service is fast, friendly and efficient at The Village location. It has a 60s-70s diner vibe with the color scheme and booths. A throw back ambiance with no music blasting and only the din of the coffee and espresso machines humming in the background. We didn't sample any of the big goods, but we did try and like the breakfast burrito AKA Joe's TC Burrito ($10.50 with the $2.00 sausage added) although we found it a bit pricy for the size and limited sausage added. The coffee (one latte and one Americano) is reasonably priced for TC and of decent quality with a pleasant non acidic taste. Not the best nor the worst coffee sampled in TC - middle of the road. - I really really really, really really wish they had a dedicated outdoor seating area easily accessible from the café. -1 star deduction for small(er) portion and less than the best value for burrito/fillings (stingy with $2.00 sausage add on)) read more

We loveeeee Cuppa Joe! Their coffee is good, food is good, and they have more seating than they did a few years ago. Most of the complaints in these reviews talk about their food taking a bit to make. Well, yeah. There's one person in the kitchen making all your food for your huge party. Terrible experience with the three staff members behind the register. They refused to heat up a simple bagel it was done intentionally for sure! Just because they "didn't feel like it?" On top of that, the guy working there had a nasty attitude, acting like the place was slammed when there were only two small tables occupied. And the latte was cold even though I asked for extra hot. We drove 4 hours to experience Traverse City and honestly would not come back to this town. it's no surprise they're sitting at a 3-star rating. read more

They are currently open M-Sat, 8-3. I ordered ahead, and paid at their entry door. You might be able to order at their door, too. Love me some hazelnut iced coffee, needed cream and they added that, too. Update on 6/2/2020: I read that they are currently closed due to some damage from some very localized flash flooding at the Village at GT Commons last week. Not sure why they have such a low overall review but this place was recommended to us by someone that lives in the Village. Customer service was excellent, food looks and tastes delicious, reasonable wait time for food considering the amount of people in the coffee shop, and the total amount paid for a family of 5 was much less than it would have been at nearby establishments. Plus they were open on a Monday which can be difficult to find. Don't be scared off by their rating. They're rated far too low in my opinion. read more

Howdy ya'll...visiting from Austin, TX. Here for a family reunion and my sister and I decided to have our coffee and catch up at The Village. For old time sake, I chose Cuppa Joe. I hv always loved my cappuccino here and their breakfast sandwiches. Unfortunately, this time I flew in so I had to borrow a bike to get to this coffee shop. There's no lock for the bike so I carefully brought the bike along with me, inside the coffee shop. The older gentleman startled me. He didnt greet me but hollered at me, "is that your bike? We serve food here!!!" I apologized and removed my bike immediately. I learned the gentleman had been working here for 10 + years!! The coffee is still my favorite but I lost my appetite after his approach, thank God it was early and not many people were there. Disappointed how he handled the situation but I will go back to the drive thru Cuppa Joe in town, yikes. read more

The inside sitting area is still closed (Covid related?) so you wait for your drink in a cramped hallway, which would defeat the purpose of social distancing. Ordered peppermint mochas which were very very very minty. Will probably go again just because I love The Commons read more

Yay. Yay. Yay! I'm SO glad to have had my attention drawn to this place and thus trying while in the area (insert: happy dance). While I've noted CJ in the past, as a "foreigner", I wasn't sure how to go about ordering and quite frankly, avoided. Nobody wants to make a d*psh*t of themselves in front of so many passerby. But, with a friend to laugh with if I screwed up, I went for it. Um, okay, so that wasn't hard: drive up to the window and order, or get out and go in (cringes with embarrassment). Hopefully, if you've found yourself at all intimated to approach the business my TREMENDOUS 'courage' ;) and subsequent review can serve as 'taking one for the team' encouraging you to give them a try. The chai tea was REALLY good (shhhh...it was better than that place represented by astronomical objects and male horned animals), HOT (as I prefer), quickly prepared, and interactions with the drive-thru person were very friendly. The best greek salad I've had in a long time. You get a huge salad for a small price filled with veggies, feta, beats, olives, etc. It's so good. They also have great smoothies and the customer service is great. I go here every time I visit. Side note: This is in the old Grand Traverse Insane Asylum, which they have now restored and created an amazing mixed-use building. There are condos on the top floors, offices on the first floor, and "The Mercato" in the basement. The building is gorgeous, a light yellow with Italiante and Victorian-era features. I've been coming for a long time. Consistantly good breakfasts, try the Joe's TC or a bagel. Coffee is great, and their Baristas compete nationally. Best all around coffee shop with hot food in Traverse City. I love the pretentious new wait staff at their GT Commons location. The best part? I have been a customer since about 2000 and they couldn't care less. Refills are slow, and they don't know how to have a conversation, but the tattoos are really cool. read more

The two folks working there on, Monday August 5th, we're very friendly, entertaining and had such a fun banter. It was exactly what I needed to start my morning. Proportions of food are small for what you are paying, service was terrible, waited 25 minutes for my salad, turns out they put it in a to-go container, put it on the counter and forgot it. Meanwhile the other three of my dining companions had received their food, and two staff had visited our table trying to figure out where my order had been placed. Both baristas disregarded that there was a problem, and ignored me, and refused to make eye contact. Childish. Unfortunately this is not my first poor experience here. We live in the building, and are addicted to the tuna paninis, which we call the world' best tuna salad sandwich. It is consistently good, with lots of fresh veggies, lots of tuna, a slice of melted cheese on sourdough or seven grain bread., grilled. . It doesn't get any better! read more

But the coffee is brewed bland, probably to appeal to the widest-possible audience. I ordered a grilled cheese w/ tomato and a Greek salad that took 45 min to come up. And it cost $18 with a diet coke! There were two guys behind the counter who apparently knew nothing about running it. They said something about a big rush, and too many people at once. Veg-Out Sandwich is so good, coffee smells amazing, soups are the bomb and they rack your brain with a trivia question everyday. Small Menu but it's so good it's not missing much. The coffee drink she made was one of the best I've had in a long while. The breakfast burrito was pretty good as well.
