I enjoy eating at Rounds when I want to go out for breakfast. It is an old classic diner that has been open for decades. The diner feel takes you back in time. The decor is older and it feels homey. The staff are always timely and kind. I like the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits taste homemade. My most favorite item on the menu though is the Toni's breakfast. I've been a regular at Rounds 8th Street Diner for the past four years. I always tried to support local, and up until now, this place was one I recommended. That changed during my last visit -- and frankly, I won't be returning. I brought my 22-year-old granddaughter in with me for the first time, and instead of being greeted with any kind of kindness or professionalism, the owner made an insulting comment that essentially called her "white trash." It was completely out of line, deeply disrespectful, and absolutely unacceptable behavior -- especially from the person running the business. There was no provocation, no misunderstanding -- just blatant rudeness. After years of loyalty, this is how we were treated. No customer, let alone a young woman who did nothing wrong, deserves to be spoken to like that. If this is how the owner chooses to speak to guests, I can't recommend this place to anyone. Disrespect has no place in a diner -- or any business. Avoid. read more

We are on vacation here. We were driving from the airport and we happened to see this restaurant and decided to stop in. The restaurant was clean and reminded me of the old time diners and home cooking. Since it was late morning I wanted breakfast and my wife wanted lunch. I ordered bacon and eggs with home frys with toast. My wife ordered a tuna melt. It was very busy with lots of customers. It took about fifteen minutes to get our food. The food arrived as we had ordered. I loved the taste of fresh home cooked potatoes. The bacon was perfectly cooked as I ordered. I had the eggs scrambled and toast browned. Super cute, quirky place. Host is adorable, hilarious. Servers names start with 'S,' often sassy ladies of indeterminate age. Pancakes the size of the plate. My dad is partial to the he-man breakfast with all the meats. Hot cocoa comes with an enormous hat of whipped topping. So, Randy's potato's are #1, but for atmosphere, Rounds is tops. Interesting local breakfast place. When visiting from out of town, we always like to try the local venue's. Place must be a popular place, it was crowded and we were able to get the last table. It looked like limited staff, our waitress was hustling. She did greet, get coffee and take our order in a decent time...I wish I remember her name (Maybe Christina?), she was rocking. I ordered The Toni's Breakfast and my wife ordered the 1/2 order Biscuits and Gravy with a side of sausage patties. It was nice they add a pot of coffee to the table. The breakfast came in a decent time considering how crowded it was. The Toni's breakfast was pretty good, Cheesy Hashbrowns topped with a large slice of ham topped with eggs over easy. My wife said the Biscuit was very light and the gravy was bland. I tasted the gravy and would agree on the bland. She was happy she order the side of sausage, the biscuit was too light. My wife and I stopped at Rounds today. it was 1:50 and their door hours said they close at 2:00. We were about to turn away and leave when we were waved in by the staff. We were welcomed even though we were the only customers and the staff was in the midst of cleaning up to close, I had the daily special of goulash and my wife had breakfast. So good! Does anyone else get behind in writing reviews? We've patronized Rounds a few times, most recently a couple of weekends ago. I always like this little place. It's definitely got the old-school diner feel in several ways, my favorite being the coffee mugs I remember my mom drinking from when I was a kid. The food is always good -nom, nom, nom - - big, ol' fat, fluffy, tasty PANCAKES (with reasonably sweet syrup ;) ; fairly priced food with generous portions; servers always friendly and attentive; it's clean; and I've never been and NOT seen the owners on-premise working in some capacity or exchanging with guests. Noting another reviewer's comment re: masks: we were required to wear them, observed all others being required to wear them (although not at our respective tables), owners and staff wearing them, as well as there being table designations to lend in social distancing. My family and I were recently vacationing in Elk Rapids, Michigan, and were searching for a great place to eat breakfast before we hit the road to head home. The friends we were traveling with read some reviews about Rounds Restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. Rounds lived up to our expectations! I ordered the Raspberry French Toast, and it was absolutely scrumptious. The French Toast is coated in crushed corn flakes, which made for a crunchy treat. It was perfect and not too sweet. My husband and I also shared an order of biscuits and gravy, which were completely made from scratch. Yum! My son ordered pancakes -- and they were the biggest, fluffist pancakes I have ever seen! This place was just what I was looking for in Traverse City...an independent, one-of-a-kind breakfast spot that has been around for more than 70 years - the last 47 of which were run by two generations of the same family. That kind of longevity means one thing...great food and service and that is exactly what I found at Round's. Looking for a protein boost this morning, I ordered my eggs with a hamburger patty...and a side of flap jacks. I have always found that it is the little things that make a difference...like the 'soft' butter that my server purposely brought out to my seat at the counter stating how frustrating it can be trying to get 'cold' butter to melt on a stack of cakes! Very thoughtful. I also enjoyed a few laughs with the locals at the counter about the clock on the wall that runs backwards. I wish I could give this place more stars because it's been in Traverse City forever and it's a well loved place by the locals. Came in a weekday during the off season so the service was pretty good. I had the corn beefed hash and it was nothing like the photo that someone else on here posted. It was pretty much hash and not very much beef. It was good, don't get me wrong, but I was definitely expecting more actual beef in it. If you are a meat lover, you will be disappointed. I love little diners, especially those that are off the beaten path, so I really, really wanted to like this one. It started out promising; the young man at the cash register was pleasant and understood when I said I didn't want to sit at the counter because I'm short & it's hard for me to balance. I only waited a few minutes for a booth in the side room. The decor was cute & kitschy, the server was very friendly, and they gave me a whole large pot of coffee, just for myself! So far, so good. I was boring and ordered eggs with a hamburger patty and pancakes. When the server asked how I wanted the eggs, I was very explicit that I wanted them well done, dry, starting to get brown, not wet. And then I waited. And waited. And waited. I ended up drinking the entire pot of coffee. After FORTY (40!) minutes, my breakfast FINALLY arrived. And the eggs were wet, but I was hungry by then, so I didn't want to send them back. The hamburger patty had a funny taste and I decided it was probably wise not to finish it. We went to Rounds on our way out of Traverse City for Sunday breakfast. We had to wait about 20+ minutes to get a table. While we were waiting we looked over the menu so that we'd be ready when we sat down. We were all very hungry and couldn't wait to eat. We sat down and our waitress came over after a bit. She asked us if we needed something to drink and we told her that we were ready to order because we were starving. She told us that she couldn't take our order because the people by us came in first and she had to take their order before ours. She had already been to their table and they weren't ready to order but we had to wait until they did because that's how they did things there. I told her that we were very hungry and that we were ready but she wouldn't take our order. After another 10 minutes and after the other table ordered she came back to us. She took our order and it took at least another 30 minutes to get our food. We were all so hungry and were very disappointed with our experience overall. read more
