Traveling in Traverse City for the Fourth of July weekend. After a visit to Torch Lake, we'd seen positive reviews for The Dam Shop. It was busy but we got a seat inside. We ordered a variety of food and were willing to wait the estimated 45 minutes for a pizza. It's an odd arrangement. A food truck built into the building on the back and a pizza kitchen in the front. There's pagers for the food truck stuff and text messages for the pizza. I got the Elks Rapid Hot Nashville Chicken sandwich double dipped Tim's way. It was an oily mess with no flavor. And definitely no heat. There was also a burger and some tacos and chips and salsa. No one cared for the verde salsa, but my wife liked the tacos themselves. The pepperoni pizza finally came, probably a bit later than hoped for. It was also nothing to get excited about. No real flavor. Drinks mostly come from the refrigerators or the bar at the back which was very busy. Sadly, The Dam Shop wasn't damn good, indeed it wasn't great at all. 2.6 stars rounds to 3. read more

I wish I would've gotten pictures because you're right in the river at the marina and it is a pretty view. The overall vibe of The Dam Shop is cool! It's a marina shop and serves food, food truck style. The bar area is separate so you'll have to order food and drinks separately. My husband got the Nashville Hot chicken, it was well cooked and crispy but was missing heat. I got the rice bowl and it was okay. The sauce was yummy, but the bowl was bland otherwise. Price gouging at its finest. The food is awful and overpriced. U pay extra for everything. I was surprised they didn't try to charge me for a napkin. I could just see it as an addition to the pile of barely edible food u order +2 for a face wiper (napkin). Ordered what was supposed to be a steak sandwich for $18 and it tasted like cardboard. Really like these concepts and I think it's good we are starting to see more of them. Place your food order at the Barista Stand where you also order and pick up your drinks. You are then provided a buzzer that goes off when your food is ready. Pick up is at the food truck. I thought it was somewhat expensive for food truck food however I must say it was quite tasty. We had breakfast so a breakfast sandwich, avocado toast , a tea, OJ and a coffee. FOOD- The food was fine, but it was the price that was INSANE!!! We bought 4 kids meals, and 2 meals that costs an insane price of $102!!! For me that's a bit over the top! SERVICE- Everyone was nice, but there wasn't really any service if that makes sense... Nobody brought the food out or anything like that, but overall all the employees were kind. ATMOSPHERE- The atmosphere was awesome! There is a pretty view, and a cool looking food truck inside to cook up your food! Everything was clean, cool, and quiet! The main reason I will give this a 3 star is because the atmosphere! I thought the atmosphere was awesome, but they need to improve pricing, and the food by a little bit... There were only 3 of us on a chilly Saturday, it took 30 minutes to get our food and I would say it is the smallest portions around.

It's hit or miss here. I've had good food and good service to leaving questioning of if I should ever go back. It's a great location and has great potential. Not writing it off yet, but usually give a disclaimer when I tell people about it. read more

The food is delicious - a little pricey but the location has a wonderful laid back feel. I love how it is on the water and boats can tie up to the dock for a midday meal or drink. It has fun yard games, but unfortunately you can't bring your alcohol with to play. However, if you are with kids, it's a perfect place to play and roam while the adults mingle. A great addition to Elk Rapids. When you walk in you feel like you went to the wrong place. This place is very multi purpose. It looks like a boat store with tubes and life jackets for sale when you open the door. But if you walk past that you get to the coffee counter. Across from that is the connivence store portion with chips, pop, beer and wine to-go for sale. But if you go past all that in the back is the bar and restaurant. You order at the bar. The food is cooked in a food truck that is inside the building. We only got an appetizer and drinks. The beer cheese with our pretzels was so yummy. The bartender was so nice and happy. The drinks are inexpensive.The space is big and open. And it will be fabulous indoor/outdoor dining in the summer. Glad we tried it. We will be back! read more

I cannot say enough good things about the Dam Shop in Elk Rapids. The Dam Shop catered a meal for 60 people at a different location and it was perfect in every way: help with the menu , accommodating vegan and vegetarian requests, ( everything was delicious!) to delivery and set up, to clean up. Everything we could have needed was anticipated and provided. This past summer when we had visiting family, we enjoyed several meals from the food truck. They even have a dog run and outdoor games for the younger crowd. What a perfect addition to Elk Rapids ! read more

Thank God for the Dam shop. Go to breakfast spot this summer. The breakfast sandwich was amazing, really good selection of coffee as well. For lunch/dinner you can't go wrong with the Dam burger and we always upgrade to the fries, its worth it, so good. Great atmosphere, service is always nice and friendly.
