Stopped in on a Sunday morning on our way to Mackinac. It appeared most folks were locals and it being Sunday resulted in more young families stopping by. There is a good selection of fresh donuts and some other baked goods. I also spotted day old donuts sold at a discount. They do offer drip coffee as well as espresso and matcha beverages. There was some confusion as to where to order as well as staff taking orders while helping customers. This resulted in a slightly slower delivery for me as I had to wait to pay as well as get my latte. A clearer workflow for the intake staff would likely clear up some confusion- especially when there is only 1 barista. There is no indoor seating but there are a couple of picnic tables outside which worked out great to enjoy our treats. Overall this was a nice snack break and everything our group enjoyed was delicious. read more

Pecan roll was very tasty. Morning glory muffin, I think that was the name, delicious. The lemon poppyseed muffins were Ok, but texture seemed a little dry. Nice staff, small building that is clearly popular based on the line out the front door. Enjoy! read more

What a wonderful find this was for us. We'd passed by a dozen times and stepping in here for a quick donut may have been the best decision of the day. What a variety. We had German chocolate cake, a lightly glazed blueberry and a chocolate longjohn. Tasty. Fresh. Mouth watering. These put smiles on our faces which lasted long after the last bite. read more

Out of this world customer service (and baked goods!)!! I contacted the owner prior to my weeklong visit to town to preorder some weekend donuts and paczki for Fat Tuesday. Unfortunately my week got a bit turned upside down and I'd forgotten the hours of the store for pickup and the owner was kind enough (both times) to reach out and let me know when the store was closing. On Fat Tuesday, she even offered to stay a few minutes past closing time which was extremely generous. I will definitely be back! Well, I was really hoping when the new owners came in, that they would uphold the quality of this bakery that has been an Elk Rapids institution for decades. Alas, they have some work to do before they meet that standard. The apple fritter, my long-time favorite, is still the same size and shape, and I can tell they are using the same recipe, but it was overcooked and dry. The iced donut, also the same recipe, was pretty good but they use about half as much chocolate icing as the prior owners. Some of my family's perennial favorites like the icebox cookies and old-fashioned donuts aren't offered at all anymore. The apple turnover we asked for wound up being cherry, and there was barely any filling in it anyway. I will give them props for friendly service and willingness to take on a challenging legacy, but they're not there yet. I hope they improve with time. read more

We were just passing through on a Sunday afternoon and happened to see the open sign still on the door. Figured we would check it out and get a couple treats for the ride home. We ended up purchasing 4 donuts and some donut holes. Cute place, very friendly staff! First thing we noticed was no greasy fingers or after taste. (Thumbs up!!) My boyfriend said the butter cream donut was maybe the best he's ever had and wants to come back ASAP!!! If you're in this charming town, please stop by and support this small business. 2018 Fat Tuesday, I must say I was very disappointed. After a 20 mile round trip. Not even half the custard filling that is usually in a regular custard bun. Since I don't get into Elk Rapids to often anymore and made a special trip just for me I used to come here all the time when Dirk & Darlene owned it. I was told it would stay the same. My favorites are no longer available at all. The Eclairs and vanilla coffee no longer available. Now I won't be buying paczki's here any longer either. read more
