Everytime I'm in Traverse City I hear such great things about this restaurant. It has even been voted the number one in the city, so I knew I couldn't pass up another opportunity to dine here. Interesting enough, this is actually a hotel restaurant! So, I was expecting the food to be slightly overhyped. But, I was definitely wrong. I went with a colleague of mine and we were lucky enough to stop by during their happy hour so, we went all out on the appetizers. We ordered their calamari, the sliders, the beef Korean tacos, and the flat bread. Immediately I was blown away by how fresh the food was. Particularly the Thai calamari. As for the Korean beef tacos- the beef was so tender! The protein on the sliders was tenderloins and those were equally delicious. The flat bread surprised me a bit! Ingredients include hummus, feta cheese, spinach, tomatoes and an additional assortment green veggies. So I was expecting it to be a cold dish but it was actually warm. The bread was exceptionally soft. There was not one mediocre thing that we ordered, everything was delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. While on our annual mother/daughter trip to the Leelanau Peninsula we found Reflect Bistro on Yelp and decided to give it a try. What we didn't know was Reflect has been consistently voted the number one restaurant in Traverse City year after year. I usually take that with a grain of salt because there's so many wonderful farm to table restaurants and unique dining experiences in TC. It takes quite a bit to stand out and to make it to the top but Reflect Bistro is worthy of the hype. We were surprised to find out it's located in inside the Cambria hotel. A top rated restaurant in a hotel? Yes absolutely. Skipping lunch we decided to have an early dinner and arrived during Happy Hour. On Happy Hour drinks are 20% off and they have small plates and select appetizers on special. Our bartender/waitress was excellent. She made great suggestions. My mom and I shared the whitefish pate appetizer (on the HH menu) which came with warm fresh seasoned ciabatta bread. We each ordered our main course off the dinner menu. I went with the seafood pot pie. It came highly recommended by both our waitress and the couple sitting next to us. Lobster, scallops, shrimp, vegetables and redskin potatoes in lobster cream sauce all served in a puff pastry shell. To use a baseball colloquialism: they knocked it out of the park! Last but certainly not least the Pappardelle fruit de mur with a creamy clam sauce was another winner. It had lobster, shrimp, and scallops mixed throughout and then was topped with fried calamari. We stayed at the hotel there for two nights and didn't even dream of eating there until the morning we were leaving. We sat down and had breakfast and I was so angry with myself that we had already checked out and we should have been eating here the whole time. I can totally see why they have won best restaurant 6 years in a row. Portions are not skimpy but not gluttonous. I love the little fruit salad topped with freshly whipped cream, you could totally taste it was freshly whipped cream, with every dish and an option for a tomato basil salad instead of getting potatoes, since I'm not a big potato person. I could cut my filet with the butter knife and it was perfectly cooked I can't say enough good things about this place. I did feel like the prices for dinner we're on the higher end but if their quality of their food was anything like what we had for breakfast it's probably worth the price. read more

Elegant and delicious! On our way to the Upper peninsula we stopped for oysters during happy hour. Very standard "East Coast Oysters" but always hit the spot! Happy hour is a 20% discount, Oysters not included! Chris was an excellent bartender, she was super relaxed and poised to help! The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the bartender(ess). She is miserable. Since opening years ago, we dine there probably six times a year. Every time she is "sour". Had a meeting here and ate lunch 2x at this hotel restaurant. Chicken sandwich was elite. Great bun, bacon was so so, melted provolone on point, crispy chicken , juicy chicken, and the garlic aioli. I didn't want to finish it, but I did. Next day was grilled romaine "wedge" with filet. Steak was great, lots of crumbled blue cheese, bacon bits and tomatoes, but something was missing. Feel like the iceberg lettuce would have been the better call here, but maybe a 3 star salad, vs a 5 star sandwich. Service was the best part of the meal. First the good news: the service is great! They even screw up the toast at breakfast. Their "fries," and their breakfast potatoes as well, are as bad as any you've eaten in your life. They have no idea how to make a proper omelet, either. The waitress looked her in the face & communicated it was the risotto & it was evident it was a mushroom. Two minutes later, she confirmed what we knew. Instead of remaking the plate, it was switched out & sent right back out. Worst service of my life. Not once, but every time I have gave it another chance. The last three times I went I waited at least 20 minutes to even be greeted by our server. The last time they offered us a complimentary appetizer for waiting and when we said what we want for it they said it takes a while for them to prepare and it would be easier for them to make something else. So we got the shrimp and it was tasty! I wish I had better things to say about the staff because the food isn't bad. But going out to eat is about the entire experience. Sliders were tasty. They have good happy hour options. Filet is delicious and ribeye is good but honestly got an almost entire cut of fat. For that, our server gave up us a small discount which was kind. They have incredible carrot cake. I am not usually the one to take the time out of my day to write a negative review but I do it in the restaurants best interest so they can improve their customer service. When my daughter told a friend that we were staying at the Cambria hotel in Traverse City, he mentioned that there was a really good restaurant in the hotel. I couldn't help but be skeptical. My wife saw that it was very highly rated, but I still had my doubts. After a long day of hiking and climbing the dunes, we were exhausted and hungry, so the idea of going to a place that was just a short elevator ride away was pretty appealing. The host was very accommodating - it wasn't far from their closing time, but he agreed to keep the patio open a little longer for us on a beautiful evening. Our server, Luke, set the perfect tone for our evening. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and knew exactly how to engage with us. We started with the hot crab dip and it was amazing. The flavor of the dip was outstanding and the pita chips were soft, yet crispy. I know that sounds weird, but its true! For our entrees, my daughter and I had the unique sounding seafood pot pie, my wife had the salmon and my other daughter had the Pappardelle Fruit De Mer. Everything was absolutely delicious! My only minor complaint would be that the portions was quite large. None of us finished our entrees, which was too bad because they were so good! Celebrated my wife's birthday here this evening. Service provided by Libby was courteous and stellar. She went out of her way to answer all of our questions and helped us with our ordering decisions. Wife totally enjoyed her seafood potpie, I found my 4 fish selection to be just okay . Cod was a bit overcooked , fried perch and smelt very good but I did not find the fish cakes tasty at all . We both enjoyed the cherry salad and the crab dip appetizer. Restaurant gave my wife a free dessert for her birthday which was totally unexpected and appreciated. On October 20, 2018 I enjoyed an amazing and elegant holiday dinner! (Yes my review is long overdue) But worth the wait of course to read and see my photos as well! This restaurant is located at 255 Munson Ave.(US-31) and inside the Cambria Hotels & Suites near downtown Traverse City. I would definitely advise with call ahead reservations for all dining especially their famous Breakfast items along with Lunch & Dinners. The lobby area has a wide open bar to relax at with high top tables and chairs for Happy Hour Daily from 4-7 PM. If you are a traveler who is staying at the hotel, then enjoy both the bar and dining experience as well. A guest can relax as I did in the lobby after a delicious meal by the fireplace. There's also a big screen TV playing current evening sporting events. I was so lucky and happy to watch the end of a Detroit Red Wings hockey game while up north in wine country! (photo attached of course of the final winning goal) The wine selection here is limited but the easy choice is to order a glass or bottle of the local wines from Leelanau Pennisula and Old Mission for a decent price. A glass of Late Harvest Riesling paired up wonderfully with my fish entree. From the Bar are local craft beer on draft. Try their custom IPA handcrafted locally by Right Brain Brewery. Domestic & imported bottles as well. They offer hard cider and seltzer or custom cocktails. The appetizers are carefully made from scratch with such a professional and elegant way, that the final plate of display was amazing to see. I ordered the Wrapped Scallops with a Traverse City Cherry BBQ sauce. (Photo attached) Soup or salads are not included with an entree so be aware of this option and price increase to your bill if you wish to try a bowl of soup or a half or full salad. Their lobster bisque soup was homemade with a 4 oz. lobster tail to taste creamy and delicious. My half salad was created with a spring mix of greens, apples, walnuts, traverse city cherries with gorgonzola cheese chunks topped with their maple raspberry dressing. (Photo attached) My server Lindsay was very professional in attire along with her personality. She was very attentive at the table checking several times, making sure my first visit was satisfying. The wait staff here are pleasant and welcoming at their jobs. The decor and lighting inside the dining area is quiet and warm for an elegant atmosphere. The Seafood Pot Pie along with a 3 piece Perch dinner were delicious and seasoned perfectly to say excellent 1st time choices! Seafood Pot Pie contained lobster, scallops, shrimp with vegetables in a lobster cream sauce and served in a puff pastry shell. My 3 piece perch dinner was displayed on a bed of multi-grain rice pilaf. The fillets tasted crispy on the outside yet fluffy and delicate on the inside. The entree came with a bowl of their famous Sweet Cherry coleslaw so yes I ate my greens twice that night. (Photos attached) No room for dessert but I was told by Lindsay, that the sweetest choice would be a slice of their famous well known "Grand Traverse Cherry Pie". Plus of course to ask for it "A la mode!" :-) She did recommend trying breakfast here on my next October/Fall trip. She said the Chef's favorites such as Omelettes, Benedicts, or a Prime Rib Hash, Lox, or Corned Beef Hash is a travelers dining choice. In conclusion, my final comments: I recommend this place when in Traverse City for a special occasion or elegant dinner. Do not "whine" or complain about the prices. There is great detail and quality in the preparation with all the meals. The professional chef's take pride in their creations and it shows in their displays and with high expectations in taste. Every guest needs to "Reflect" then spend the extra money once or twice a year here. You will be pleased and satisfied with a relaxing and elegant dining experience. Hidden Gem in Cambrian Suites. I've passed this 100 times without realizing there was a restaurant in the hotel. Food is amazing although a little pricey. Drinks were reasonable. have been eating here for many years but Friday night was not a good dinner. the restaurant appeared to be short handed of staff who appeared unhappy and confused about the number of people. we always make reservations. the food was luke warm and the fish bites were cool. two soups were also not like the seafood bisque we usually have. the sauces for the beef tacos was so spicey and they were difficult to eat as the shell fell apart to touch. luckily it was happy hour and prices were better than the usual $75 to 100:pp. we will try again earlier than 6:30 Next time.
