The Artisan Restaurant nestled in the Delamar Traverse City Hotel on Front Street in Traverse City, Michigan is one hell of an excellent restaurant, making some very unique dishes out of standard fare! For example - with the wedge salad I ordered this evening, what I was expecting turned out to be this delicious, beautiful work of art that was strikingly unlike any other wedge salad I've had before. The same was with my gin martini; the bar had a horde of botanical gins and few London Dry gins (which I like). The bartender used the same magic as the chef did with my salad. There was something going on here which I didn't only like, but felt something enchanting and ultra-talented happening. My wife felt the same sensation! My pasta entree and my wife's trout were both delicious. The staff here were lovely, helpful and diligent in making sure your experience here was stellar. When we come back to Traverse City, will we absolutely stay at this hotel, and have several dinners at The Artisan! read more

We got a smash burger and it felt like an average burger... we also got a veggie bowl with blackened salmon. The salmon was good! But the veggie bowl was mostly rice. This was such a sleeper hit! My husband reserved a table for our anniversary dinner thinking it would be all about the view/location, with mediocre food. We were so pleasantly surprised with the creative, memorable, and delicious food. We ordered mostly plant-based dishes because apparently 100% (!!) of their produce is locally sourced. The tomato salad was refreshing, with a super cool basil sponge (!) garnish. The tom kha squash featured squash blossoms and mushrooms, and we were super excited to find that the chef had somehow inserted "mushroom ricotta" into the blossoms! So fun. The charcuterie board was very filling. The walleye entree was solid, and the cheesecake dessert (complimentary since we were celebrating an anniversary) was the perfect end to a thoroughly enjoyable meal. We were there nearly three hours and never once felt rushed. Our waiter Giovanni was knowledgeable and conscious of giving us space but also checking in at the perfect times. I am not one to write reviews but I have to. The dining experience at the restaurant in the hotel was one of the most awkward and unenjoyable we have ever had at any hotel or restaurant in our entire lives. Never seen anything like it. The Sous Chef, Will, was terribly rude to our bartender, Dennis, not just once but multiple times. Made the whole dinner awkward and we felt bad for Dennis the entire time. I know that people have bad days but while paying a noticeably higher price tag for this hotel (and menu) compared to the surrounding options, my girlfriend and I expected a way higher bar and professionalism from the kitchen. It doesn't cost anything to be kind. Hope Will learns that under their employment. The food was great though, so that part he has down. The rest of the staff was extremely kind such as Keith and Dennis (wish I knew the rest of the kind staff's names) and tried to rectify the awkwardness but no comped dessert or a drink should take away from rudeness of their own kitchen colleagues. Tried this fine dining establishment on our most recent visit to Traverse City. Artisan is housed in a high-end hotel. The ambiance was first-rate: we were seated at a table with a clear view of the waterfront. Service was equal to anything one might expect from a Michelin/starred restaurant: attentive without being intrusive; able to answer most questions or obtain the answer if not known. We had a couple of glasses of wine. The server was helpful in suggesting a glass for each of us that matched our meals well. And speaking of the meals: We shared the cacio y pepe, which was a plentiful (almost too plentiful) serving of romaine lettuce, covered - a bit to excess --with a dressing. The dressing was tasty, but a bit less might have improved the dish. The co-diner got the seafood dumpling appetizer. The soup had a nice broth, and the dumpling was nicely flavored. Unfortunately, it also came with a chile, the heat of which tended to overwhelm the rest of the dish. For our mains, the co-diner got a salmon entree. He thought the salmon selected for the dish was quite a bit "fishier" in taste than the salmon we like to cook at home. The way the salmon was cooked was fine. It would have improved the dish if a better quality of salmon had been used. I ordered the rack of lamb, medium rare. It arrived, and was very rare - so much so that the inner pieces were borderline raw: not what I asked for. The lamb could also have been trimmed a bit, as the fat was clearly visible as a large part of the dish. It came with some nice mushrooms, and a green sauce made from pulverized veggies - very good. For dessert, we shared a piece of spice cake, with tart cherries and mascarpone. Our server also brought us a bonus dessert of a fluffy cheesecake with salted caramel topping, and ginger snaps on the side. Must say, the desserts were the highlight of the meal. All in all, while the front of the house reached a high level, the back of house fell a bit short of what one might expect from a restaurant of that quality. read more

A lovely elevated dining experience in Traverse City located inside the Delamar. Their cocktails and dishes were delicious and the bar service was amazing. I had great drink suggestions from the bar staff after explaining what I was interested in trying (spice, not sweet, etc). There is an outside patio (was too hot the evening I was there but amazing view of the bay) and the restaurant is bright and vibrant. I ordered an herb your enthusiasm cocktail - refreshing and delicious for a hot day - the miso Caesar to start which had awesome crispy chickpeas, and the Scottish Salmon which was cooked to my preferred temp and had a delicious citrus vinaigrette. I would recommend a reservation, as sometimes it looks pretty full on weekends or during conferences. But a must stop on the bay in Traverse! read more

Located in the Delamar Hotel, Artisan is a bit of a walk from the downtown area but right on the water and beautiful. The weather was a bit too cold for outdoor seating but we dined close to their indoor fireplace and the menu was outstanding, as was the service. We started with an order of the Mill Milk Buns. They were pillowy, warm and served with an incredible fennel butter and caramelized peaches. I ordered the special, seasonal lasagna and it was truly wonderful. Full of fall flavors and textures. My husband ordered the Scottish Salmon which was also tasty with an herb topping, puttanesca sauce, and shaved cucumbers. It was very unique and delicious. They treated us to an anniversary dessert and we chose the Pumpkin Cremeux. It is the most beautifully presented and festive dessert I've ever enjoyed and tasty as well. Artisan boasts an elegant setting with spectacular views of the bay. We were quite excited to spend our 30th wedding anniversary here. We were seated outside in the elements, but it was a nice evening and my wife was fine until the sun went down, then I had to trek back to the car for a light sweater. We ordered cocktails and the burrata appetizer. The burrata was good, but there wasn't much cheese or tomatoes. It's like the broke the burrata open, took a small scoop and dropped it into the salad. As for the tomatoes, there were a few small chunks, but not much. However, there were plenty of peaches. We took our time and spoke with the waiter about meals to find out he doesn't eat seafood so he couldn't help my wife pick her fish. She opted for the halibut and he talked me into the lamb. My lamb was good, but under seasoned and there was a very large fat cap on it. It was rendered, but I've never seen lamb chops that way. Just found it rather off putting. My wife said the flavors of the halibut were excellent, but the entire dish was cold. It was new on the menu so we thought maybe the cook is still getting his/her bearings on when to fire the new items. Then the table next to us complained about the same issue. Their halibut was cold as were their scallops. We were seated next to a group that drank several bottles of wine and got rather loud. We were hoping for a quiet peaceful dinner, but ended up being sat next to the fraternity and sorority kids. Will we go back? Maybe. But it won't be first on our list. read more

A lot of inviting dishes on the menu which made it hard to decide. I ordered the Poached Halibut and my wife ordered the Scallops. Hostess said ok will be 10-15 min because we just opened but you can go have a drink while you wait so we did. 12:30 manager came and said it will be sometime after 1 before we can seat you. Look at this manager and this picture - place was EMPTY! And he said it's because we have other reservations. There was no one coming in and only the first 2-3 tables seated since opening. We are two people. On my birthday! But it appeared like - on July 3 the day before a holiday and a Friday - they had one server one hostess and one manager. Uh . . . So we thought we'd wait but honestly the attitude and responses and lack of any behavior of service made us think it just is going to go downhill from here. So we said never mind we'll pay for our "drinks while we wait from 40 min ago and find another place for lunch" and manager said said "Sorry for the miscommunication" . . . . ummm . . . no miscommunication my friend - it's sorry for the poor service. They did the whole coat check procedure but when it was time to leave they couldn't find our coats despite having the tag numbers, and opened the closet for us to go through all the customers' coats and look for them ourselves...? You want food poisoning this is your go-to place! During a special local promotion they offered a $45 3-course dinner that I and my friends took advantage of. One expects smaller portions and cheaper proteins in this economy but when they offer a "surf and turf" with "crab fried rice" one expects visible crab pieces. Instead we got minuscule CRUMBS of crab meat indistinguishable from the rice grains, I found 5 tiny crumbs total in maybe a 1 cup portion of the NASTIEST super-salty rice. It was inedible and the vegetables were just mush. I talked with people who had gotten the same dish the night before and they said it was good and the vegetables were tender. Which makes me suspect that we were served LEFTOVERS! The "medium-rare" steaks were all rare-to-raw and smothered in an overly-salted glaze. Service was very slow, though the servers were very nice and knowledgeable about the dishes. We sat there over two hours while a table next to us was flipped twice in that time. There were ridiculously long waits between courses. The non-alcoholic drink I ordered was 75% ice cubes and the ridiculous paper straw disintegrated into goo. I did complain to our server about the rice and she apologized profusely, next the bus boy apologized, and then the very intense and slightly intimidating manager came and apologized and tried to justify the saltiness due to the sauce. I've had good fried rice and it never hurt my mouth from salt. After more apologies they gave everyone at the table a takeaway box with a huge chocolate chip cookie as compensation I guess. The next day three of us are feeling ill with nausea and other digestive issues. Very disappointing as I've had amazing meals there in the past. The dining area was nicely decorated but very loud and echoey, the chairs were either too short or the tables were too tall, it felt like sitting at a kiddie table and gave me a backache. Let me find something positive...the caramel cheesecake served in a glass jar was wonderful and my favorite part of the meal. But I won't return. They've lost a customer. read more

It was very hard to give this a lower review because the food was delicious overall and the restaurant is beautiful. It has taken me awhile to post this because I genuinely don't enjoy giving negative reviews. However, I think it's important for others to know our service experience from specifically the manager was not good. We ordered the roast chicken and as soon as I took a bite I knew it was not fully cooked. We had a server walk by (not our server) and stop at our table and say wow that is not cooked. Let me take it back. We really appreciated him for doing that and noticing it. The rest of how it was handled is where we were frustrated. They were backed up in the kitchen and so it was another 30 minutes before they came back and said it would probably be another 15 to finish the chicken. We were already done with our food at this point and so we said no don't worry about it we don't need it. The manager stopped by later to apologize and said they would take the chicken off our bill. That should have been a given..... we never received it. They took nothing else off our bill and did not send over anything complimentary. Me and my husband are very nice people especially at restaurants and we were very understanding of the mistakes that had been made that night. I am very upset because had I been angry and made a scene I guarantee that I would have had more taken off my bill. You are encouraging bad behavior by your customers when you treat the kind customers this way who do not give you a hard time about mistakes. I ate raw chicken. Do the decent thing and comp part of the bill or just do something extra to make up for it. read more

I was slightly skeptical as a "hotel restaurant" isn't usually my first choice but Artisan was highly rated so we gave it a try. She had the Filet Mignon and I had the Glazed Salmon. Both dishes were excellent, prepared well, and presented very nicely. Great flavors. The atmosphere here was nice with a bit of upscale feel and there was excellent music from the very talented Blake Elliott. This is our second Christmas dinner at Artisan. After last year's experience, we definitely had high expectations for Christmas 2024. Giovanni took proper care of us, just as Alex did last year. The staff is welcoming, and they genuinely want to do their best. We didn't see the chef, but the creations were exquisite. This place was amazing! My husband and I came for our anniversary and the ambiance was top notch. We dined outside and were able to view the sunset throughout the whole meal. For our appetizer we got the farm board, but would probably opt for the bread and butter next time. The farm board was good, but this was the one item I could have gone without while dining. I cannot recommend the cabana experience enough! It was one of the best experiences of my life. The cabanas were warm and comfortable and came set up with a beautiful hot chocolate bar. The miso Caesar salad and truffle kale pizza were outstandingly flavorful -- and the chef was even able to make the flatbread gluten free! The pool was a perfect temperature on a snowy January day. The cabana rental included access to a shower, bathroom, and towels. The service was extraordinary. They even brought us our drinks poolside. read more
