So this 70's themed little breakfast spot always get's me real nostalgic. We visited on a snow Sunday morning and surprisingly it wasn't too busy! Worst service we have ever had. Waited 20 minutes before being seated way back corner. Ignored for at least 20 minutes until I asked a waitress if she had our table. "NO" I'll go get her. Raquel took our drink and food orders. Sat over 30 minutes with no response about our order. Raquel came by and said "there are 3 tickets before yours". Sat another 15minutes. Food came out "told omelets were very hot" and they were. Wrong toast on both our meals so we switched. My husband's sour dough toast had a gob of butter on it not melted and cold to the touch. His meat lovers omelet had burned sausage in it. My western omelet also had burnt ham inside. Waited another 15-20 minutes for the bill. Wait staff were hardly seen as we waited. We arrived at 10:00 am and left at 11:45 am. Yes Sundays are a busy day but to wait this long for substandard food and service is ridiculous. A group of us were looking for a breakfast spot before heading to the airport and we found this one! They have an extensive menu with both sweet and savory items and we had amazing service. I ended up ordering the veggie scramble with egg whites which came with a side of potatoes and upgraded to blueberry flap jacks (thought to try the flap jacks since the name of the restaurant but you also had the option of toast). Anyplace you can order mozzarella sticks off the menu for breakfast is a place that will always hold a special place in my heart. However, these MS (mozzarella sticks), kind of missed their mark. The breading was more of a fried breading which is my fave as compared to the actual breaded breading. But the cheese part of the cheese stick just felt a little flat. More gooey/runny than stringy/chewy, which always brings MS to top tier. My main meal was the Sunrise Special, which sets you up for the potential of meal that will get you rip roaring to start your day. In reality, this meal mostly gave me a little nudge to start my day. And not even really a heartfelt nudge. More like the kind of nudge you give your grandma when the check out line is moving and she's standing there reading the magazine headlines. My scrambled eggs were the type that were scrambled then spread out on the cook surface to cook before being sliced up and laid awkwardly across my plate. 4/10. My Spuds (cubed and fried potatoes) were decent. Salt, pepper, and ketchup go a long way here. They tried hard, I'll give them that. 5.5/10. My pancakes really fumbled the ball here. Visually, they looked good. But they were dense and tasted of too much flour or pancake mix or sadness. 3/10. I am a man of bacon. It is my spirit animal. I prefer it limp. Or floppy. Or loose. At the tail end of the blizzard we stopped here for breakfast. Words do not describe how delicious the food was. My husband had corned beef hash, and I had the banana bread french toast. Both dishes were incredible! The service was great too. Brittany was our server and she was so chill! Very efficient too. I found this restaurant online and decided to try it because the menu looked interesting. We went and were delightfully surprised- the staff were all very nice...especially our server, Sarah. I ordered the cinnamon pancakes with a side of bacon and my husband ordered the Albuquerque omelet. My pancakes had a cinnamon cream cheese topping that paired wonderfully with the warm, fluffy pancakes. The bacon was nice and crisp and my coffee was delicious and fresh. My husband's omelet was hearty- packed with veggies and sausage ( possibly chorizo). We were unable to add our name to the waiting list online with a group more than 4. When we arrived we added our name and gave a phone number for them to text when our table was ready. They estimated 35 minutes but it only ended up being 15, which was great! (Once we left I overheard the hostess tell someone it was an hour and 15 minute wait) Our server was so so kind and I feel bad that I don't even know her name. She was so accommodating of our group of 8 (4 kids, 4 adults). All orders were correct! We did have to ask for syrup and the drinks the kids had ordered with their meals but it really wasn't a huge deal at all. Everything was delicious and I liked the view! The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I took kids to the bathroom and someone was vaping/taking up space. My guess is she knew the hostess, who was in a stall. When one of the kids I was with was done in the bathroom they washed their hands. But the hostess came out from the stall, stood for about a second and realized kids are absolutely slow as heck, so she walked out. My hope is that she washed her hands in the kitchen but I cringed each time she walked past our table with rolled silverware and menus in her hand for the rest of our time there. This place is really a gem - don't let the name or the outside appearance fool you! When driving past it, I didn't think it was going to be anything special but it ended up being one of my favorite restaurants in Traverse City. Came here for breakfast while staying at great wolf lodge and ordered carry out. We have ate here before and don't remember being this disappointed last time. Ordered a Santa Fe and a Taos skillet with a side of flapjacks for each. Got my total for $40 over the phone and looked online and noticed the menu price of about $9 per meal. So I asked when I got there and each item was about 5 dollars higher than what it shows on the website. The server explained it has been an IT issue and I was ok with that explanation and get that things cost more now. The disappointment set in when we opened out food and noted the Santa Fe skillet only had a few crumbles of chicken and the Taos had what looked like a few crumbles of chorizo that resembled bacon bits. So both meals were basically just potatoes with a couple fried eggs on top. If Menu prices are raised that is ok as long as the portions are maintained. I should have taken a picture because of how little meat was there. We moved on to our side stack of flap jacks and we both didnt finish them. For a place called Flap Jack shack the pancakes should have been awesome. They were Spongey and lacked any kind of decent flavor with the GFS style syrup packs.
