Not sure if the people at this place even want outsiders or what. I found great reviews so I suggested we try it out. We were there early in the morning, not sure if it made a difference, but the two women did not seem ready or willing to offer hospitality. My husband said he asked for a to-go container and the woman seemed put off by his request. The place was freezing cold and vents were blowing cold air by our table. The food was decent, nothing to write home about. The ambiance was cool, kinda dark though, but overall not a place I would recommend for anyone who doesn't live around there. read more

Forget the complaints in some reviews regarding service here. It's fine. Bud' s is like a busy bee nest as people wait in line to place their orders and others are milling about checking out the coffee cups, post cards, and muffins for sale. Seating inside is fairly ample and seasonal outdoor seating is nice. The food on the menu is fresh and tasty and hopefully you leave room for a scone or cookie to take with you. Always offer fresh brewed coffee but WARNING! Breakfast closes at 11 A.M. It's a great Northern Michigan spot. read more

Now, I'm a faithful Ware's Bro fan, but sometimes its just a bit too far to get with 4 or so kids in strong desire of ice cream. So, hey Bud's...let's do this! 1 scoop of Strawberry: My nephew informed me it was the "best strawberry ice cream he had ever had in his whole life." I tasted it, pretty close...though his life is only 4 years long, so hopefully his tastebuds experience even better in his ice cream training to come. 1 scoop Superman: My niece polished this off like a champ, and managed to rainbowfy her entire shirt, face and hands...success! Oreo for my brother, peanut butter for me, and cookie dough for my sister in law. I even sprung for coffee...hey, they have it...so why not!? It was good :) Total cost $10.23. Seriously. Yep. Great amount of seating, a sandwich menu, WIFI, cool rustic feel, and Interlochen school has a playground right next door if the kids feel the sugar buzz and need to run it off a bit before bed (oops, sorry!). As Applebee's is to my town, so Bud's is to Interlochen. Except there are no entrees and no alcoholic beverages. But it has an Applebee's sort of feel inside, and there is a good assortment of burgers, wraps, paninis, and flatbread pizza. Therese H. had a chopped salad and I had a bacon cheddar burger. Really good iced coffee (and pretty cheap, too), donuts, and food (what I've tried, at least). I had the stuffed egg croissant for breakfast and it was AMAZING. So good. I'm working at Interlochen Center for the Arts this summer, and have spent quite a few of my days off here. It's a nice place to hang out if you just want to get off campus for a little while. There's a weird gift-shop-like thing at the entrance as you first walk in. Lots of overpriced miscellaneous stuff...it seems out of place. Wish there was just a simple display of things like Bud's coffee, mugs, etc rather than all the clutter. I'll definitely be trying the ice cream sometime before I leave town. read more

I had a bowl of beef barley soup, and my dining companion had what looked like a pastrami sandwich. The soup was good, but a bit light on the amount of beef and barley. I didn't try the sandwich, but it looked good and was of a generous size. We didn't try the ice cream goodies, but the menu sounded attractive. Prices were reasonable too. I will forever remember Bud's as the place that served me The Worst Sandwich I've Ever Eaten. I got their tomato and cheese panini, which turned out to be two limp pieces of bread, two thin, anemic slices of tomato, bread drowned in vinegar and, somewhere, I discovered they put on a smidge of cheese. You'd literally do better if you tried to make a bad sandwich at home since you probably wouldn't be silly enough to drown the bread in a "balsamic glaze" (or, more accurately, vinegar lake). The only reason I didn't take it back was that we ordered take out, so we didn't discover this abomination until we got home. read more

Cool place to eat lunch, grab snacks and ice cream, or just coffee at this place near Interlochen. It's a fun place with games and sometimes live music. Food is above average but staff is very friendly. Also a nice outdoor sitting area if you have a pet or just want to eat outside. The ice cream and custard options are great! Lots of the campers from Interlochen will walk to eat here so they can get off-campus food. They usually travel in packs so be aware of potential wait time if one or packs are in there eating! read more

We stopped at Bud's en route from a long weekend up north -- my partner had never been to Interlochen so I made a detour through the village. We were getting hungry, and Bud's (which wasn't there the last time I'd been in town) looked really interesting and inviting. We were not disappointed. We enjoyed the funky "up north" atmosphere almost as much as we enjoyed our burgers and fries. The staff was also friendly and efficient. It looks like a really comfortable place to spend an entire afternoon noshing/sipping coffee/talking with friends or doing laptop work. We'd certainly go back for another meal. I USED to love Buds until my son developed a severe food allergy to dairy. On two separate visits we explicitly asked for something that didn't have dairy for him, we weren't picky. BOTH times were were given food that was either covered in cheese or buttered. We paid $5 for a small beef patty that was buttered. After receiving our second botched order we asked to speak to the manager, she explained to us that they work hard to be sensitive to allergies. NO APOLOGY, only telling us that they try hard. While the overpriced food is yummy, chances are if you have a food allergy chances are you'll have a reaction based on our experience. read more

My husband and I love to take the kids on an icecream road trip to Bud's on Sunday afternoons. He was very surprised by the very reasonable prices. His hot fudge brownie sundae was huge. The kids enjoy the cake batter or superman icecreams. As for me, the Eskimo Kisses is to die for! I swear by it. Real coconut flakes, fudge swirls and chunks of chocolate truffles. I have been frequenting Bud's a lot lately, especially with the fudgies in town! I love the location. It's a cute little place decorated all Northern Michigany. It also has great outdoor seating. The first time I came here I got the burger on special, it was pretty good, but now I stick with the Western BBQ burger or the cherry chicken salad sandwich( if i'm feeling lighter that day). Both are delicious, though they have a tendency to over cook the burgers. And I always, always get the strawberry lemonade soda. It is perfect on a hot summer day. They had a bad day on Father's day, but their service is back up to their regular 200% again! On Father's day, the regular cook had the day off and so they had two brand new Green cooks on the line. Things that usually took 3 minutes were taking 35 minutes plus. It was hard to watch since we know how lovely this little spot usually is. Today (Wednesday) we came back and they are back up to their quick and quality food. We truly appreciate little Miss Daisy (Christina) and Joshua. Some of the greatest memories I have from working at Interlochen Arts Camp this summer were the times I spent at Bud's. Delicious food, great ice cream, AMAZING coffee, and the best donuts I've had in my life (made fresh EVERY morning). We would always stop here on our days off to grab a coffee and a donut before heading out to the beach. Every Sunday morning, the Assistant Director of our division would bring in two boxes of Bud's donuts and the counselors couldn't be happier. They also have really amazing ice cream, that they make themselves. I would go there for the Chicken Caesar wraps, which are phenomenal. The kids also really enjoyed it, whenever the counselors would plan trips down to grab ice cream or food at Bud's. Another great thing about Bud's is the staff. They are friendly, personable, have a great sense of humor and are just plan interesting to talk to. The morning I packed up my cabin and left Interlochen was sad, because I had spent probably the best summer of my life there. As I began my drive back to Chicago, I stopped at Bud's and picked up a large coffee and three of their sugar donuts. Now in the dead of winter in Champaign-Urbana, I think about those mornings at Bud's and can't wait for the summer so I can go back! read more

Found this place through Yelp when I was Up North during this Summer. It's very different from all of the cafe/dine around this area in a good way. Great breakfast, we ended up came back again the next morning for breakfast again. Their Donut is a huge surprise, SO DELICIOUS!! Will come back here again next year! Did not dine in. We were on our way out of town and decided to pick up some donuts for the road. Got one dozen of assorted. They were fantastic! The cinnamon and sugar donuts, hands down my absolute favorite. Every employee we interacted with was extremely friendly and helpful. Like I said, didn't dine in, but we did see the outdoor dining area was packed and everyone seemed to be enjoying their breakfast. I am a regular here. I absolutely love the coffee. They are always willing to make items as requested even if the order isn't easy. I have filled several coffee punch cards and received free coffees. I'm pretty sure they even know my dog by name! Be warned, It can take some time (10+) minutes during the busy season but you can call and order and then pick up! read more

The coffee is excellent and the food is good too. The service is awful. So slow in the drive thru every. Single.time. Staff will walk by look at you sitting outside and pretend they don't see you. We spend a lot of money weekly at Bud's on Coffee and EVERY time I am so frustrated with how long it takes. If there was another coffee shop close by I would go there. But, it's the only one in Interlochen. We typically wait at least 10 minutes for an iced coffee sometimes 20! Nice décor, but customers pay for it by getting food that is generally good, not great, with portions seemingly sized for children: if they disappoint a small eater like me, they're definitely too tiny. After paying $32 for what amounted to a snack for two people and leaving hungry years ago, my girlfriend and I haven't returned. That meal was not an isolated example; before that on numerous occasions, we regularly paid through the nose and felt shafted elsewhere, with being gypped leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I may return if I win the lottery or have a stroke and forget about other restaurants offering larger portions of better food at lower prices. I wish there was another local sandwich shop besides Buds. They are very overrated sandwiches and the wait is usually 15-20 minutes once you order inside. I've been coming to buds every summer since they opened and have always liked them. However,that being said, I can no longer recommend this place for anything other than a "Dining Experience " gone bad. What is apparent is that the owners, not being there, have hired teens for the summer. Generally, I'm totally all in with that. But the lack of adult supervision and apparent inability to get a hamburger out to a table for 35 minutes is unacceptable. Especially during the Friday 7 pm time. When your not even crowded! I shot my insulin, waiting for my meal, didn't get my food in time, and had to eat something quickly. I then had to go back to the counter and grabbed a yogurt with 5 or 6 berries for an additional 4.50$. Outrageous. That really screwed up my entire evening. Not going back. read more
