Dilbert's Cafe!
Nichole W.

Such a yummy restaurant with fair prices and lovely staff that really makes happy campers! I ordered the vegetarian omelette with ham and it was loaded with absolute goodness!! Omelette was fluffy and golden stuffed with spinach, mushroom, tomatoes, and delicious thick cuts of ham. It came with a side of sourdough toast spread with butter. I had 3 coffee refills as well :) The only downside was it was pretty packed in a tiny dinning space. There was outside seating but since it was raining we waited for a table inside. We got seated rather quickly though! Will come again when traveling northern Michigan

Where's the fish

Stopped by for lunch. I have not been here before but my boyfriend has in the past while on fishing trips. Ordered the club sandwich, fish sandwich and clam chowder. It was basic diner food, my fish sandwich had a very small peice of fish and the bread had to much butter on it.

This is the best breakfast restaurant in Traverse City & they have the one and only Franks Hot Sauce

Wow the best breakfast ever & they have my favorite Hot Sauce Franks Red Hot. The service and atmosphere is really friendly.

Average food at average prices and below average ambiance. The food filled my belly and I didn't get sick. Cheerful staff and good location.

Is there breakfast all day?

I am not sure since I ate breakfast both times I was there. It is open certain evenings, but I don't know if they serve breakfast then.

Instead of going into Traverse City and paying $753 for a cocktail, come to this local joint and get some good food and drinks for a fair price. It's a good spot to watch a sporting event, too. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary or to compare with Traverse City restaurants…read more(as others have wisely noted), this is not your destination. If you're looking for a quick-no, I take that back (more on that in a minute), but large portion of food and a huge selection of beers and cheap cocktails (relatively speaking, compared to CA, $5 for a Guiness?...that's a deal, and $8 mixed drinks!) you can head here. I do have to give them the benefit of the doubt that the place seemed hugely understaffed, with an entire patio of probably nearly a dozen tables with only one server. But wait, she wasn't running the kitchen, so maybe they were understaffed back there? Anyway, while we were seated promptly and our beverages came out quickly, our food took a good 45 minutes. Really? Throw some chicken fingers in the fryer, some fries, some fish and chips? How hard is it? The place was busy, but not hopping. I don't know how it took that long but the only saving grace was that it was all hot and obviously hadn't been sitting at the pass under a heat lamp (or not) and freshly prepared, and the portions were HUGE. It was all tasty and in a this-is-salty-and-delicous-and-I-know-it's-not-good-for-me-but-I-want-to-keep-eating-it sort of way. Like really good fast food. Each of our dishes, the chicken fingers, the fish and chips, the fried chicken sandwich, were enough for two. Even if you're really hungry, any of these were probably a 1,000 calorie plus meal. I'm not here to give nutrition advice, but this was just an obscene amount of food for a single human being. Generous with the fries, generous with the protein. Again, the kind server who was scrambling just to keep up with clearing tables was obviously doing her best and was exceedingly apologetic about the wait time. So the two stars off are not for her, but for the average food quality and the lack of management as evidenced by the slow food service. If you're at your leisure, looking for some everyday American favorites with most of it probably coming off the back of a food service truck but still tasting pretty good, this is your spot. I would go back, but only when I know I have at least an hour, if not more, to dine and enjoy a beverage or two.

It has a beautiful brick interior which makes the space unique and quite cozy. There are two parts to the restaurant, a back seating area and a hallway seating area. I made a reservation for Sunday at 11:30am which I'm thankful I did as I overheard the hostess say the wait was over an hour to another party checking in. Our waitress was super friendly and took our order shortly after we sat down. The biggest downside to this experience was how long it took for our food to come out. It took 45 minutes for my group to get our food and when it did come out there was an error with one of the dishes, so it had to be sent back. Due to this error that group member ended up waiting close to an hour for their food, which was disappointing. Although the wait was long we all throughly enjoyed our food. I ordered the western omelette with fruit and rye toast, all of which were flavorful. The portions sizes were great for 1 person as well. Overall I had a good experience but would caution anyone going to allow ample time for the meal!

They don't have an espresso machine but they brew a really good espresso blend. For breakfast, we ordered the carrot cake pancakes, the toast, and a side of turkey sausage. Everything is farm to table and made fresh. The food is incredible. I ordered the carrot cake pancakes. The attention to detail with the candied ginger and homemade rosemary simple syrup was noted. My belly was so happy. The side of Turkey sausage was so good. It's not your basic sausage. They are homemade with roasted onions, leeks, and herbs. This changes every season, which is so exciting. My husband's toast was made with brisket. I tried a bite. The combination of fresh veggies, homemade bread, and brisket was so good. Vanessa was our server. She was so great! So friendly and helpful. While white customers were greeted kindly, escorted to their tables, and menus waited them on tables with care, the owner herself treated us very differently. She handed us menus while we were still standing and simply told us to "go sit over there," without guiding us to a table. It was incredibly disrespectful. Once seated and ordered, the waitress was nice but we waited nearly 50 minutes for our food, just two people with a simple order. Even for busy sunday , it was unlikely specially that a larger group who arrived around the same time were served much sooner. After the 50 minute, when we politely mentioned the delay and requested to leave and pay for drinks, we were spoken to in a disrespectful tone under what seemed like a fake smiles and we were told, "This is not a fast food place," as if we were unreasonable or lacking understanding, a response that felt insulting and belittling. We weren't demanding fast food service; we were simply asking for clear communication and fair treatment. We were not informed about the wait time would be this long, and nothing on the menu indicated it either. A small biscuit was brought to our table during the wait, but we still weren't told how much longer it would be. If the breakfast food typically takes this long, guests should be given a heads-up so they can decide if they have time to wait. Overall, the lack of proper hospitality, the tone used to speak to us, and the differential treatment we received make it hard not to believe this was racially motivated.Being treated this way by the owner herself made it even more horrible experience! We expected to be treated like valued customers, not like a trash in the corner. Discrimination has no place in the service industry. We hope S2S seriously reflects on how they treat all guests not just those who look a certain way. Also, they should consider mentioning the expected wait time for orders if they are likely to take a long time.

Fantastic sandwich and pizza option if you're headed to or from Sleeping Bear Dunes!…read more We came across Shipwreck Cafe after stopping for gas next door on the way to Sleeping Bear Dunes. We wanted a kid friendly option and came in for the pizza, but ended up being blown away by the massive sandwich menu! Don't be discouraged by the line - it moves FAST!!!! The young people at the register and in the kitchen are efficient and so nice!!! We arrived about half an hour before the sign says pizzas are ready, and the lovely man at the register said "sure!" when we asked if we could order a pizza. The menu has something for everyone - Including plenty of vegetarian options (I think they even had a vegan option). I loved my Griffon, and the meat eaters in our group enjoyed the SS Noronic (a BLT) and the Fitzgerald. Our kids devoured their cheese pizza! They also carry Great Lakes Co Chips, which are some of the best potato chips we've ever had. Our sandwiches were all so inventive with delicious, fresh ingredients, amazing condiments, and the most freshly baked "pretzel rolls" ever. If this place wasn't a vacation stop for us, we'd be back all the time! Our kiddos favorite part, bedsides the pizza, were the tiny plastic swords that came in our sandwiches holding them together. When they each wanted one more sword, we went back inside and the staff inside was so used to kids asking for more tiny swords that their response to "May we have two more swords?" Was "Sure! What colors?!" Very different from what the response would have been where we're from. :) We even came back later in the day for the frozen custard!!! All in all, it was a great experience with great food, great service, plenty of outdoor picnic tables under umbrellas, and something for everyone to eat.
