We had a very disappointing experience with this eyeglass store, both in the past and again recently. About three years ago, we brought our child here for glasses. The store made multiple errors: they ordered a completely different frame color than what we selected and messed up the prescription. Instead of taking responsibility, they gave us a very hard time before eventually issuing a refund--only after significant back-and-forth. Fast forward to today, we returned simply to look at frames for our child. To our shock, we were told they could not serve this patient at all because a refund had been issued years ago. It became clear that they had flagged the account due to their own past mistake. Rather than correcting the issue or showing any professionalism, they refused service outright. This felt discriminatory and unacceptable. A business should not penalize a customer--especially a child--for errors the business itself made. Their staff was also poorly communicative, dismissive, and unhelpful, offering no reasonable explanation or solution. Overall, this store shows a lack of accountability, poor customer service, and very unprofessional handling of patients. I would strongly caution families before trusting them with something as important as their child's vision. I would give a ZERO start if I can. DO NOT COME HERE. There are more places that are more respectful, accountable and DO NOT Discriminate!! read more

This place is AMAZING. I just had my first appointment there today. Their booking system is very sophisticated, and I am obsessed. So, like pretty much anywhere, you make the appointment online, and then it sends you links to fill out all the forms in advance. But it doesn't end there! I got a link a couple days before that let me pick out six different frames to try on and they were WAITING FOR ME when I got there. Very nice touch. Also, they were a well-oiled machine, getting me seen on time and not overbooking. On top of all the top notch admin, my eye exam was thorough and thoughtful. Had a great visit as a first-time patient. First, a thorough, unrushed eye health exam, followed by the regular eye exam. The part that really separated Hodes Vision from other optometrists I've seen reviewed here is there was absolutely no hard sell when it came time to pick out frames and lenses. They've got a pretty decent assortment of vrands to choose from, and the technician assisting me never rushed me to make a decision, or pointed me to the most expensive frames. Even when I mostly settled on a frame I liked, she continued to offer suggestions and was willing to let me try on different frames as long as I wanted. Best part is the cost (albeit with insurance) was a lot less than I was expecting! Cant wait to pick up my new glasses!! read more

I've never been to an optometrist, but I ended up having a bit of a "same day emergency." I called at least five other establishments looking for an appointment with no luck...and then I reached the lovely front desk staff here! They were extremely helpful in verifying my insurance and they squeezed me in that day! My positive experience continued into my appointment with the doctor -- he was extremely patient and really took the time to explain everything he was doing. He completely and seamlessly solved all my issues. I'll be using them for all my "eye needs" going forward, and I highly recommend them! read more

AVOID. Taking the whole family to a new place after being a customer for many years. Service is not what it used to be. ===Poor service. Left a pair of glasses in perfect condition to change the lenses. A month later, the glasses came back with the frames destroyed. It looks like the sides were put too tight in a vise. No apology. No solution. The manager said "You signed a waiver, you didn't buy new glasses". A brilliant way to force people to buy new frames. ===Poor attitude Recently, upon returning a registration form by email, got a response back from the front office with ten exclamation points and aggressive language because some fields were missed. Very unfriendly. ===Poor organization A few weeks ago, had an appointment at opening time (9am). Arrived on time. 10 minutes later, someone finally shows up. They broke a key, and can't get in. It happens. But nobody ever called back to reschedule. We try to help local businesses, but this is not one anymore. read more

I had an appointment and they called me to reschedule for 10/11 at 4:45 pm appointment for my daughter . Had to pick her up earlier from school for it and once i arrived they made us wait for a half an hour with the excuse that Doctor has to see a different pacient!! It was a Friday and I had so much discharge from my eye that I could barely see. They didn't answer the call or respond to my voicemail so I went in person. It was explained to me that they don't have any doctors on a Friday. They have no emergency options (strange with 3 eye doctors). If you are OK with that, then he seems to be an OK doctor. I called my previous doctor, who got me in immediately, and provided drops which ultimately fixed my problem. I can't even imagine how bad my situation would have been if I hadn't been seen that day as it was steadily worsening. read more

I've been to four different optometrists for my children and Dr. Hodes is the only doctor who spent a lot of time to exam my children and did not rush them for glasses. If I could give 100 stars, I would. I woke up on Sunday with a terrible pain in my eye that could only be described as the feeling one gets when a small bug flies into your eye and keeps flapping around. I tried to get whatever it was out, but I couldn't. I couldn't see it, and the pain kept moving. It was excruciating. My eye got very red and swollen. I tried to rinse it out and flush it with saline. Nothing worked. The pain was terrible. Given that we are in the middle of a pandemic, I didn't want to go to an urgent care or somewhere to have it looked at, but I needed help. I was lucky enough to get a telemedicine appt with an urgent care who prescribed me medicine for my eye, but the dr told me that I should see an optometrist in person as soon as possible. I called Dr. Hodes and left a message. On a Sunday afternoon. He immediately called me back, spoke to me for ten minutes about what was happening, gave me his thoughts about the medicine that had been prescribed, had me text him pictures, and told me that although he was closed, he would gladly see me the next day, if necessary. I took him up on it, and asked him to see me the following day. He unlocked his office just for me, and with both of us masked and gloved up, he examined my eye, made sure that whatever was in there was finally out, and ensured that I had the proper medicine. I'm giving 2 stars because I actually like both drs here. However, at best, the front desk staff communicates inaccurately about fees, or at worst is intentionally giving incorrect fees on the phone. I called for my appt and stated "I need to come in to renew my contacts RX." I was given a non-insurance price of $150.00, minus a 25% off yelp promo. This is a bit higher than my old office, but since I like Dr. Hodes it is not a big deal. I also opted in for a $49 detailed photo that the dr. recommends. After my appt. I was told there is an extra $80 fee for the contacts RX/exam. What? From $150 to $230? I protested. Then there was a lot of back and forth and the OM kept stating over and over there's always a separate cost for this exam. That is FINE, however, when I call and ask for the cost of my visit, I should have been give the actual, accurate cost so I could choose to come in, or go elsewhere. She kind of blamed me as well, like they were doing me a favor to honor the phone price, which was weird and made me uncomfortable. If you go, you don't have insurance -- be sure to ask exactly what the total cost will be, if it matters to you. read more

I came here to purchase sunglasses because I was in need and I had a coupon From Hodes Optometry that I was wanting to use finally. I found a great pair but on my ride home I noticed the lenses were scratched. I called the office and spoke to Imelda about my situation. She immediately informed me that Hodes stands by their product and are happy to refund me or give me credit for new ones. I came the next day (today) and Imelda and her coworkers swiftly helped me with my exchange. I found a new pair and was able to use my coupon. Their sunglasses collection is fire and I am excited to come back and have my exam next week. Customer service was 10 and I walked out with a comfortable and nice pair of shades! Dr Hodes and staff are the best! Highly recommend. I have multiple Eye issues that require regular monitoring, including bi-annual check-ups with an ophthalmologist at UCLA. At my last exam, the doctor at Jules Stein told me he frequently sends patients to Dr. Hodes before scheduling new patients. If Dr. Hodes refers them back to their office they'll schedule an appointment. I only go to UCLA annually now and rely on Dr. Hodes to monitor my eye health. read more
