I had my regular check up with Dr Farro on Oct 4. he was great, knowledgeable and efficient. Ordered contact lenses the same day, I was told they should be ready for pick up the next Monday and their staffs will call me. I waited to the next Tuesday, no calls. So I called them instead. I was told the contacts haven't arrived -ok that happens but some sort of update would be appreciated. I asked if she can check with the provider since I will be out the country the following week. She told me she will call me back with an update by EOD, but nothing happened. I called again the next day, someone picked up and told me my contacts should be ready for pick up on Friday, and again they will call me. Today is Friday, no one has reached out. When I called them, I found out that they close every Friday. Use your own judgement before making an appointment. read more

I got my new prescription from Dr Ferro. He said it would take 5-7 days to get the new lenses put into my glasses. I called their office Day 7 and was told it would actually be more like 7-10 days. No problem, so I called back on Day 10 and they said they'd look into it and call me back. No call back. I called again a few days later and they said they'd look into it and call me back. No call back. I called again and was told the glasses had come in but the lab had put in the wrong prescription so they had to be sent back. It turns out that was not the truth and the lab hadn't messed up the prescription, they had returned frames that were not mine and had lost my frames. By week 5, so about 30+ days, I finally got my glasses back. That was five weeks (not five days!) of me having to use an old pair of glasses with an old prescription that gave me a slight headache. I get that the lab screwed up and lost my frames and that was not the office's fault. But the office could have a) kept me better informed (not just at the end) and b) called me back when they said they would and c) not continue to give me days they would be ready when they would not be and c) not made me feel like every time I called to see where my glasses were was just a big inconvenience to them. Time for me to find a new optometrist. Time for them to find a new lab. read more

Dr. Ferro is very knowledgable (actually takes the time to explain and address any questions/concerns you have), professional and gentle on the eyes, does a thorough job, is honest, genuinely cares for his patients and overall the best Optometrist in Santa Monica! Sandy, the beautiful Assistant, is always super friendly, upbeat, and helpful! They have a good selection of frames and sunglasses to choose from and are all priced reasonably. I'm so glad I discovered them. I have referred 2 people from my work to Optometic Odyssey and both had positive experiences after their visit. Dr. Ferro is a very nice and professional optometrist. He was also very forthright and honest about my eyesight. He told me I had a slight weakness in one eye, but didn't necessarily need glasses as I might not see much of a difference. I liked that they did not push a sale on me. I've been going to see Dr. Ferro since 2004 when I worked across the street after I got my first job out of college. Over the years I've switched jobs many times... and for a time lived in the bay area even and still went to him. Fate and the growth of the LA tech scene, have actually somehow allowed me to work within half a mile of his office 3 different times! He's always absolutely friendly and has done a great job. I remember one time I randomly had to come in because I thought I lost a contact lens in the back of my eye and he didn't even charge me. Strangely enough I've basically grown up into an adult the entire time I've been going here for my eye care (and his son is my age, so I occasionally hear about him and it just reminds you how long its been) so I actually kind of enjoy going to get my eye exam each year. After being vastly underwhelmed with Lenscrafters, despite their convenience, I decided to follow the Yelp recommendations for Optometric Odyssey. The office is small, low key, and very comfortable. Dr. Ferro gave me a thorough and unrushed exam, taking time to explain what he was doing and answering all my questions. Though I was not pressured to purchase glasses from them, Sandy came up with a few stylish frames for me that fit my ginormous head perfectly and really complimented the shape of my face. She was also able to fit my Prada sunglasses with new grey gradient lenses, which Lenscrafters could never do. My order was filled in about 1 - 2 weeks, the glasses were ready in a week but my sunglasses took a bit longer. No matter, they were worth it. Dr. Ferro even gave me a discount on the exams and glasses since I didn't have vision insurance. Just a note, as I had a little difficulty finding it at first: the office is tucked into a minimall across the street from the Santa Monica DMV. I picked Optometric Odyssey since they had great reviews & were very close to my office. I showed up 10 minutes early to my appointment and 30 minutes later I was still waiting on their couch. Odyssey is an apt name for this business. In that time I learned about the doctor's kids, the neighbor's landscaping, how much their homes cost, various dogs, etc, etc. The good news is that I was able to make another optometry appointment for tomorrow that's equally convenient. read more

I've been around the optical world for a few years now, having worn glasses since I was young and also working at various doctor's offices for 3 years. I am quite picky because I know what to expect and what I want. Dr. Ferro's office was one of the first one's on my insurance (due to how close it was to my apartment) and the Yelp reviews looked promising. I booked my appointment easily over the phone. I was greeted with the usual paperwork when I came in. The office was small, but the space was used well. Dr. Ferro saw I worked for an eyewear company and we discussed the business. As far my as my exam went, he spent a great amount of time with me. I was very pleased. I used my insurance benefits for contacts because I get benefits with the company I work for as far as frames go. Vanessa is amazing. She was able to help me pick a pair of glasses that worked for me. I have long eyelashes which makes picking a frame difficult but Vanessa took the time to help me try on so many until we found one that worked. I absolutely recommend going here if you would like a practice that goes the extra step in finding what is right for you. The optometrist here is super kind and friendly with everyone. So it's that time of year again for an eye exam but I have new insurance. I log into my HMO's website and click on my vision discount benefit and select find a provider. I compare the list to Yelp and settle on Optometric Odyssey. I called to make an appointment and explain to the receptionist that I do not have a vision plan and only have a discount through my HMO so I'll be paying out of pocket. She says no problem and makes an appointment. Two weeks later, I show up 30 minutes early (hey, traffic was amazing) to my appointment. I show her the card from the HMO. She has no idea what I'm talking about even though I explained it over the phone when I made the appointment. She brings it over to Dr. Ferro. He comes out and says that he doesn't accept my discount plan. I say okay, no worries but you may want to call my HMO people because they linked you to this discount. He gets all cranky and says no, he only does medical eye exams. I say sorry and he just storms off. Wow. Rude much? The crazy thing is, had he not been a jerk I would have just gone through with the appointment without the discount since the discount was so small and I was already there. Not a good way to treat potential/new/any client. read more

This was an absolutely horrible experience. To be clear, this review is solely based on the people in charge of taking and making appointments. While I'm sure Dr. Ferro is very good at what he does, the people at the front desk are lacking in total common sense and clearly do not care one bit about honoring their appointments. After making an appointment the day prior, I call back the day of to make sure they were able to verify my insurance. Not only were they not able to verify my insurance, they had given my appointment time away. The woman on the end did not have a reason why this happened other than to say she had not made this appointment and refused to honor our set time. I phoned my insurance company and was able to verify the coverage in under ten minutes. Responsibility and common sense are severely lacking here. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

The first visit was good and he's a nice guy. On the 2nd visit, I had a -2.00 prescription but the glasses didn't feel right so I took it back to him and he insisted they were the right prescription. I took the glasses to another store and they confirmed it was -2.25 which was the WRONG prescription. Dishonest business practices here, beware! What a waste of time and money. It cost me another $90 to refit with new lenses. I would not recommend this place. read more

In the past 7+ years he's always seen me on time, he remembers things we discussed during previous visits, and he explains how billing/insurance in such a way that everything is crystal clear. Right next door to my work - I've been coming here for about six years. Good customer service, good selection of frames and if you want to try frames on that they don't have, they will order them for you to try on. They take VSP and EyeMed insurance as well. I like this place. read more

I called several of the optometrists listed in yelp's Santa Monica area, and Dr. Ferro's prices for a comprehensive eye exam (with a contact lens fitting) were the lowest ($100 for the exam + $45 for the contacts). His receptionist/sales person, Sandy, was also extremely kind and patient on the phone. The office is small, but very clean and modern, and Dr. Ferro was thorough, efficient and warm. He really took his time checking my eyes, and was very informative. He gave me some excellent advice regarding my contacts, and some good info re: lasik. At the end of the exam, he gave me both my prescriptions for contacts and glasses, and he referred me to a cheap website for ordering contacts. Sandy also was helpful with my questions regarding insurance. His prices for glasses seem normal, and I didn't feel pressured into buying anything. Overall, I was totally satisfied with my experience, and would recommend him whole-heartedly. read more

Dr Ferro is good. He gave me a prescription for my glasses incase I should want to get them made in India, where frames are much cheaper. Great experience. They were able to fit me in within a week of calling, during a time that worked for me. There was a miscommunication about the brand of lenses I wanted, but they exchanged them for me very quickly, no problem. Dr. Ferro was very helpful in explaining the price differences to me, and gave me my written prescription at the end without me even having to ask (sometimes this can be awkward). I was also in a tight spot and on my last pair of contacts, and they happily gave me a few pairs to last until my new shipment came, and then gave me more when I had to return the first set.
