Being a physician, I really appreciate someone who's thorough. Dr. Kimura is extremely thorough. He lets you ask questions and doesn't feel like he's rushing you but it is extremely knowledgeable as well. Very good bedside manner. And has excellent follow-up protocols, especially for contact lens fitting. I highly recommend his services for any eye care that you need. One thing to note is the parking lot is not stamped So I'd recommend parking on Federal or the first cross street to the South. I liked the doctor and felt the exam was detailed and thorough. I had a pair of lenses made for an existing pair of frames I have. The lens cost ~ $500 and unfortunately the center of the focus for "normal" distance is just off. They are set too high and thus the whole lower half of the lens is only focussed for very near objects. Additionally, these are sunglasses for driving and sports, so they are used almost exclusively for distance. While everyone at the office has been nice, there was almost no interest in getting these lenses right and correcting how they were functioning. I have worn progressives for many years and have bought them dozens of times from Oliver Peoples to Warby Parker. In all that time, maybe once or twice something wasn't quite right and the lenses needed to be redone and they have been without issue. I basically spent $500 for lenses that don't really function unless I hold my head still and use the small zone that is correctly placed, which is obviously not realistic for real-world use. read more

I work in the building Dr Kimura has his practice and he's definitely one of the best optometrist I've gone to. The truth is that my initial impression wasn't great, I had to wait 45 minutes for my appointment which I was a huge problem since I called before I coming down as I was extremely short staffed that particular day. But after meeting Dr Kimura I easily let the delay slide. *He was very knowledgeable. *He took his time to make sure I got the perfect prescription. *He made sure my contacts were going to fit nicely. *Didn't want to order my year supply of contacts until I knew my sample pair was something I really liked. I've never had that happen. He even offered for me to try a different brand to compare. *I had some issues passing one of my vision tests and he retested me and also wants me to come back for another appointment (at no charge) to test even further. *He had a great personality and I can tell he really cares - a perfectionist which compliments me as I am the same. *Every single member of his staff = awesome. I was very impressed and being a big time yelp reviewer who is picky about service, .I highly recommend seeing him for your optical needs. Don't let the location in Brentwood scare you away - it's in a nice, beautiful building but there is nothing pretentious about the people there. Easy parking and they validate. I have been going to eye doctors since I was 7, and each time they marvel at the true absurdity of my prescription. I rarely write negative reviews because I think people should be praised instead of roasted, but Dr. Kimura's conduct was so AWFUL that I hope to spare others the horrible experience. I told Dr. Kimura that I'm scared of eye doctors because of the air-puff test that I once got without warning. I also had some questions about eye health - typical stuff if you're new to glasses. He seemed like a little, nerdy, highly-strung man who might know a lot about eyes, but who was also getting increasingly frustrated by the second. He finally snapped and told me to 'stick your chin in there because I've got another patient out there waiting for me.' I complied and we completed whatever phase of the exam we were on. I then told him, calmly, that there are absolutely ZERO circumstances when you can talk to a patient like that, and that I would never return. He interrupted to say, 'I know; I'm rude. I have anxiety' and proceeded to bolster his limp apology with the excuse that the patient waiting for him is going to leave. He ended by saying, as if HE WERE THE VICTIM of this entire situation, 'And now I'm going to lose 2 patients', bowing his head and muttering something about the world being against him. What else can I say except that if you want to apologize to someone: 1) Say it from the heart. 2) Don't add any words after the word, 'sorry.' The people skills and chair-side manner of this person is -10. I finally have found the perfect eye doctor!! I needed a better contact lens prescription. Dr Kimura was very thorough and did not rush me or just send me home with any prescription. I had gone home with one set and told to return a week later to re test how I was doing with the prescription; good thing he did so as he had to adjust the left side. Daniel Kimura, OD was able to fit me right in when I needed an appointment and was pretty flexible in accommodating my schedule when I needed to return for a follow-up visit. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my many questions. Both of my appointments were scheduled for the end of the day, so he ended up staying much past closing-time until my appointment was complete. I appreciated the extra time he took in talking to me about options, coverage, etc. I can be rather demanding, but he was always quite patient! His staff was friendly and helpful. Dr. Kimura is hands down the best optometrist in town. Having moved around different parts of LA in my life, I had been many different optometrists in the city and there has been no one as thorough and comprehensive in his evaluation as Dr. Kimura. Best doctor (eyes, physician, dentist, Dre) ever! He really walks you through the entire process and tells you what is happening with your eyes. I went in last year and was very comfortable and since my eyesight is so poor he told me all the risks associated with it and what to get checked. Even showed me the X Rays. Not to mention the staff is accommodating! They gave me 4 free trial lenses to hold me over until my appointment in two weeks. They really look after you here. Cannot say that for the other eye doctors I've been to in the area. The only real con is that the waiting area is weird, but it's an office. Not expecting marshmallows and foot massages while I wait. I also never park there (ride my bike) so not sure how that works. read more

My wife and I are both professional pilots, and I need not point out the importance of perfect visual acuity and good ocular health to remain employed in our chosen field. The selection of an outstanding ophthalmologist is therefore a very important one, and undertaken with great care. No shortcoming or mis-judgement is acceptable. Dr. Kimura has our complete and unquestioning trust. The reasons should be obvious,but I must point them out: Due to very demanding work loads, legal constraints and protocols, HIPPA compliance, insurance nightmares, and finding the most competent staffing, medical professionals cannot always devote the time and attention to every patient's case as they would like to. The current Covid-19 pandemic has certainly added to these difficulties. This is not the case with Dr. Daniel Kimura. He is the most thorough, capable, knowledgeable, and especially caring doctor I have met in his field. He is eminently approachable, very clear in the explanation of his diagnoses, and has the patience of a saint when answering questions that come from an uninformed or confused patient. The thoroughness of his H&P review, the care in his testing and diagnosis, and the reports his gives are of the highest order. He has also heavily invested in the (very costly) most up-to-date medical technology for his practice, and anything better could probably only be found in an eye-surgery setting. But what puts Dr Kimura in the pantheon of the best is the care and devotion he provides to his patients. A few days ago I developed what was a very worrisome new eye condition, and which may have needed immediate intervention. I phoned his office late evening on a Saturday, listened to a recording which instructed me to call another number. That was also a recording, but not the usual "Leave me alone, dial 9-1-1" It asked for a name, contact number, brief description of ailment, and promised that I would get a return call from someone "shortly". A mere five minutes later, "ring-ring". "Hello Dr. Kimura!" He took down my concerns, explained exactly what he thought might be occurring, the precautions to take, and the actions to follow if symptoms deteriorated any further. He also gave me the phone number of a 24-hour eye surgery hospital to call in an emergency, and if no emergency, to make an appointment with them as soon as possible. Done. I will remember forever the care, concern, reassurance assistance (over half-an-hour on a Saturday evening) that Dr Kimura provided me. What can you say to someone who cares so much about someone under his or her care? Perhaps, with humility and the utmost gratitude, "Thank you, Doctor?" read more

I'm really glad I went to Dr. Kimura! I went for my check up and to get a new RX for contacts as well as to chat with him about the possibility of lasik surgery. He explained to me what tests are required and stated the importance of properly prepping for those tests to determine eligibility. I decided to get contacts instead for now and I have to applaud how patient and accommodating Dr. Kimura was with me during my process of finding the right pair of contacts over the course of a couple of weeks (I've always had issues with contacts). He was thorough and I appreciated him sticking with me until I found the right ones that also fit my budget/insurance coverage. Months later I'm still happy with my choice. Dr. Kimura is one of the more knowledgeable optometrists in the region who goes well beyond the more ground level services of eyeglass and contact lens prescription by offering top level care for ophthalmic conditions such as glaucoma and the monitoring of retinal conditions. The office has OCT and Visual Field machines and Dr. Kimura uses them as needed to support a detailed ophthalmic examination. Additionally, any costs not covered by insurance are very reasonable and the staff is extremely friendly without being overbearing. Dr. Kimura is very caring, modest and accommodating.
