After 15 years of being under-prescribed, I decided to switch eye doctors. It turns out my 1.5 and 1.75 corrections should've been 3.25 and 3.5. I have some debilitating health issues, but I didn't realize that the most debilitating was trying to go through life without being able to see. I have so much more energy, socializing is more engaging, driving is easier (and legal now). Also my new glasses are really cute! Dr. Gonzalez has a great selection and the ones that get tinted are a really neat color. They really look like more like sunglasses when they're activated. read more

I visited Dr. Gonzalez in September of last year and then some family emergencies prevented me from following through with this review / buying new glasses. But she was awesome and everyone should go to her. The office is incredible. So unassuming from the outside, It was an art gallery turned it into a relaxing, beautiful industrial space spa-like scene. It's HUGE and only Dr. Gonzalez works out of it. I have ridiculous astigmatism, plus each eye is worse than the next for distance. Dr. Maylin was incredibly kind and helpful, plus she had eye machines that are digital and no optometrist or ophthalmologist I've ever been to has had digital machines. She typed my former prescription in and the machine moved to the correct view in seconds. I always feel crazy when I sit in the optometrist's chair and try to figure out 1 or 2, 2 or 3. The digital process eyes was quick, and exciting! Everyone should have a digital machine. I asked about contacts, like I always do, but she was honest in telling me that only one type would ever work and my eyes are too dry for them to be successful. Every other optometrist has tried to fit me with them and they always fail. It was refreshing to be told I wasn't a good candidate for them. Bottom line is that Dr Maylin is professional and kind. And she wears cool glasses. I appreciated the time and care she took with me. read more

You should absolutely book with her if you're looking for an eye doctor in LA!! In my initial appointment, she found I had an injury to my left eye and explained what to do/look out for to ensure there's no permanent damage. I lived in NYC for over a decade and saw countless optometrists, they were all mediocre and impersonal. When I moved to LA years ago a colleague recommended Dr Gonzalez and I am so thankful. Maylin is the BEST doctor I've ever had, if I moved, I would make trips to LA to continue seeing her. Her level of care is fantastic. She's incredibly great at what she does and professional. But the bonus touch for me is that her "bedside manner" is top tier. We have the best conversations and frankly, some visits I end up just sitting in the chair chatting for another 15 minutes about life, culture, politics. Dr. G takes her time with you and makes an effort to understand what your eye health, style and monetary needs are. Absolutely fab experience. Dr. Gonzlez is super, super personable. She's makes one feel completely comfortable. I bought my sunglasses with me because I hadn't had a check-up since before covid (also with Dr. Gonzalez I might add) and expected the dialation but to my surprise, she has a machine that does the reading but that does not require those drops, so that's a plus right there. This was the best eye appointment I've ever had for multiple reasons. First off, I went to the wrong address (do not use the native Waze address as she has moved locations)! Dr. Gonzalez was understanding when I called to let her know I'd be late because I went to the wrong address and said she'd wait for me to get to the right address so I could still keep my appointment. Second, I had a really weird thing happening to my eye. She was the first eye doctor I ever had that actually listened to what I was saying, vs. brushing me off like I've unfortunately had at Costco. She was very calming, and very reassuring knowing that I was stressed out over it. Third, my comprehensive eye exam was incredible - every single eye exam I ever made me shut and open one eye, then the other, etc., and it would further and further blur my vision during the exam, so the exam ended in an un-trueish prescription. For the part of the exam where you read the letters on the screen, Dr. Gonzalez has the machine you're looking through black out one eye and then the other so you are not having to shut and open your eyes a bunch. This results in a perfect prescription. Fourth, she heard me say I had just gotten a new job and told me to wait to use my vision insurance to buy new glasses - because why spend the money if you don't have to? Sure I could go to Warby Parker with my prescription, but I've had issues in the past with "driving glasses" making me feel sick - and then I have to go back to the doctor, back to Warby Parker, repeat, repeat, repeat. I don't want to do that anymore. I want to work directly with someone who can help me with any glasses or prescription issues. Last but not least, she's so nice. Really. She's a joy to be around. Great conversation. Great service. Great knowledge. Great office. Highly, highly recommend Dr. Gonzalez over anybody else in LA. read more

She picked up on all the little nuances of my vision and how the right set of glasses would correct my vision and other health issues. I felt seen for the first time!
