I've been coming here for years and it continues to be one of those rare places that just does the work well. The new location is a real upgrade. Calmer, better laid out and a big step up from the old spot. It feels intentional, like someone actually thought about how patients move through the space instead of just filling rooms. Dr. Sarah Ito is exactly the kind of doctor you want. Quietly confident, clearly knows what she's doing, no theatrics. You sit down and immediately feel like you're in good hands. No second-guessing, no unnecessary friction, just competence. The equipment is modern, the staff has genuinely good energy and the whole place runs with an easy, understated efficiency that's increasingly rare. And then there's Steve. He's exceptional. Thoughtful, patient, sharp and genuinely invested in getting things right. The kind of customer service that doesn't feel performative, just deeply human and attentive. As a would be future repeat customer, I decided to leave and not to come back after waiting in the reception area for 30 minutes past my appointment time. Nobody came by to provide an update. Before my appointment, they texted me a link to fill out Patient Registration and Office Policy form. I provided all the required information prior to my arrival. The receptionist asked me to fill out Office Policy form and provide my healthy insurance policy again, which made me think what the point was to fill out patient registration before hand? What's more inappropriate was that the receptionist asked what the last four digits of my SSN were in the presence of other customers. Although I had a negative first impression, I was not planning to write a review here, but decided to write one after seeing lots of positive reviews on yelp. I think the actual optometrists here are very capable and good at their jobs but you will wait 30 minutes in the waiting room. I also made an appointment and they canceled it because I didn't "confirm" it. They texted me at 4:43 saying they were going to cancel it and I called at 4:45 two minutes later asking that they didn't and they had already given the appointment away. I don't understand the point in making an appointment if I'm also required to confirm it again weeks in advance. read more

This was my first visit to the new, clean architecturally crisp office on Ocean Park Blvd. The staff is attentive without being overbearing, the frames selection is more than adequate with all price points and my exam was thorough. oh and they provide parking in the back! After having an absolutely horrific experience elsewhere (see other review), I was surprised to find that this local office took my insurance. I went into the office before making an appointment to make sure and everyone at the front desk was super nice and patient. I then returned for my exam and it went quickly and efficiently and the doc was also super nice. Now, for the best part and I'm so pissed at myself for not remembering his name, but if I remember correctly the glasses he was wearing was made of vinyl records. HE WAS AMAZING. I have a really small face and most glasses hit my cheeks, which I hate. I have a bunch of old frames and he gave me honest opinions of ones I had and ones they carried, and we narrowed down choices. I ended up with one pair of each. Had my vintage frames made into prescription sunglasses and new frames for my all the time glasses. He did not rush me at all and I had his complete attention. I will be definitely be going back. Make note of their hours. I'm such a dummy that I always forget they close for lunch. read more

Ocean Park Optometry has definitely earned five stars in my book. I had set up the appointment on their website and I received back a form to fill out. They are always there to ask questions before, during and after the appointment. The receptionist checked me in and shortly thereafter I was called in by one of the technicians. After the screening tests the optometrist Sarah Ito did a very thorough evaluation. She is easy to talk with - a really good communicator. Every staff person from the receptionist to the technician to the optician did a great job. I trust Dr. Ito due to her expertise and thorough ways. Also - the office environment is pleasant. I observed a most pleasant yet subtle aroma when I went up to the receptionist desk. Lots of windows, natural light and pretty wood floors. Also the location is in a sweet shopping district in Sunset Park, Santa Monica. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great optometrist. read more

Hey there, it takes a lot for me to write a review. Although Dr. K was great. His staff, half of them were not. I ordered my contact lenses through them and they showed up the wrong prescription. I called. I emailed I called again. The girl shares they don't it your prescription so we just ordered the lesser. And I thought that's weird. I took the prescriptions contacts back to the office and asked for a different brand and return the contacts for a refund. And they refused and said only store credit. And I said let me get this straight. You order the wrong prescription you don't tell me it's a lesser prescription. I didn't open the boxes. You don't return my calls. I have to bring them in and then only store credit. I hope this doesn't happen to you. read more

While my experience with Dr. Ito was excellent, unfortunately, my experience with Deborah in sales was very disappointing. First, my glasses were significantly delayed. My eye exam was on April 5th, but I didn't receive my glasses until April 30th due to one of the lenses breaking before shipping --an understandable mishap. At no point was I contacted to inform me of the delay--I had to initiate every follow-up call myself. When I spoke with Deborah on Friday, April 25th, she assured me the glasses would be delivered by Monday, April 28th, even though the office is usually closed that day. She claimed they would be open and that she would notify me when the glasses arrived. That never happened. I texted her on Monday and only received a response on Tuesday, saying the glasses would be ready for pick-up on Wednesday. When I finally picked them up, I discovered the wrong lenses had been ordered--computer lenses instead of the everyday lenses I clearly requested. Both my husband and I specified that we would purchase computer glasses elsewhere. When I raised my concerns, Deborah was rude and dismissive. Rather than acknowledging the mistake, she insisted that "everyday glasses" could mean computer glasses as well, and claimed she was "thrown off guard" by my feedback. She never once apologized for the inconvenience or the confusion. This experience was frustrating and disappointing, especially after such a positive interaction with Dr. Ito. read more

The doctors are fine and Nicole realty helped to make me feel comfortable. But Dr. Ito, if you are reading this I would beg you to do something about aggressive upselling up front. I explained to the very rude "saleswoman" that I currently couldn't afford any extras due to current financial difficulties. I could only afford what my insurance allowed. Do you think that stopped her from continuing to try? Nope. When I declined she tried something else and when I said no thanks she grumbled and whined "why not???" I almost asked to be checked out by someone else. And by the way, when she realized that I wasn't going to be buying anything extra, she was short, gruff and very anxious to get me out of the office. Ive been a good patient at this business for many many years and I've always spoken highly of Dr. Ito (both of them) but as you can understand, a person doesn't want to have to explain why they can't spend a lot of money and they should not be badgered or made to feel less important as a patient. It's embarrassing enough as it is to be in bad shape money wise. Don't let your staff make that tougher. read more

I was recommended to this place by my optometric tech. He asked me what kind of glasses I like, and I told him I like frames that are different but not too different--and something that fits my style. He sent me to the right place! I love Prada because they fashionable and are very comfortable, but none of the current Prada frames were for me. I picked out several Salt frames and one Ray Ban, then asked to see an optician so she could help me pick out the best one for me. Michelle was amazing. She was super honest about what looked good and what didn't--which I appreciated immensely. As it turned out, she and I liked the same frame on me. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that my insurance doesn't allow me a new frame until December. Michelle told me the frame would be in my file. Very cool. Everyone in the shop was super kind. Happy to have found this place and have already made my appointment for December. Def go there!! You will be happy you did! read more
