This is a posh optometrist. The service is outstanding. They have a very good selection of designer frames. They offer basic repairs and they are kid friendly. I really can't say enough good things about this place. They seem to be a tad more expensive than larger chain stores but for me it was totally worth it. I have a very complex eye issue that goes beyond astigmatism. Also, they are open Saturday and take my insurance so it was win-win. I've been back a few times and it's always the same. So I have been debating writing this because I thought Dr. C had been doing a good job with my eyes for a few years. But this last time I went, I ended up coming back and twice changing my script for contacts. Ultimately I left with two sets of scripts for my eyes. I just dealt with them for almost a year. Just thinking well I am getting older this is as good as it gets. I was so dam wrong! Last week I go to a new optometrist and holy crap, Dr. C script she gave me was soooooo far off. I feel like I can see clearly now for the first time in ten years. My new doc did things Dr. C never did and he even told me my eyes are actually very healthy no stigmatism etc which Dr. C told me I once had. Im so mad that I wasted so many years going to a bs optometrist. I almost want to look into legal advice because if the years I spent with sub par eye care and contacts. I had to write this to warn others. Do not go here, she either gives some proper care and others not to proper either way her scripts were garbage for years and caused me so many headaches. Stay away from this place! And yes the staff sucks too. read more

Dr. C's is the best optometrist experience I've had in the LA area, and I've been to several. Finally found Dr. C and I'm never leaving! The entire staff is warm and knowledgeable -- and both Dr. C and Dr. Quan are among the most patient and professional eye doctors I've ever known. I've had occasion to see both, and had a multitude of questions each time, and in all cases they stayed with me until I completely understood everything regarding my vision issues and the options available. Followup visits have been similarly attentive. Lastly I just wanted to specifically shout out their tech Brian, who helped me out with a couple pairs of glasses recently -- I wanted glasses that I LOVED wearing, rather that merely tolerated, and Brian spent a great deal of time working with me. He suggested several excellent pairs, and went out of his way to special order the exact frame/color combo I was after, even managing to get it shipped sooner than expected. And when a minor adjustment was found to be necessary, he got the lenses in both pairs replaced asap. Truly can't thank him enough for the extra effort. I was in a bind. I need eyeglasses in order to work, and one of the hinge joints on a Hugo Boss eyeglass frame I was wearing had failed; the arm wouldn't stay in place with tape; and I had a limited window of time in which, and limited funds with which, to get them repaired. I searched online for the highest ranked optometrist in my immediate area. After speaking to four or five receptionists; I took photos of the broken hinge joint and the detached arm; and sent it to them so they could show it to an optician, and ask they could repair it. An optician at the first place I called, Optix, responded quickly, telling me that it could be soldered back in place, but that most opticians aren't set up to do that kind of work, and referred me to jewelry repair shop in the areas. He was genuinely helpful. Calling the jewelry repair shop, I was told the technician who did that sort of work was on vacation and to call them back in 2-3 hours to see if the manager had any suggestions. I simply didn't have that kind of time. (The people I spoke to at the other shops either weren't very helpful, didn't get back to me, or got back to me hours later to simply say that, no, they couldn't help me.) Searching online again, I stumbled across a listing Dr. C Optometry, which was only a couple of blocks away. The receptionist referred me to a friendly, elderly and very helpful optician named Howard Levinson. I sent him the photos and explained my situation, and he immediately made two suggestions: he could take the lenses out of the broken frame and put them in a new, low cost frame. Or he could send them out to be soldered. Both options would cost approx. $70. Sending them out could take up to five days and I couldn't wait that long. I told Howard I'd be there soon, and walked to their location to see what frames they had on offer. Howard was as affable and earnest, as he sounded on the phone. True to his word, Howard took the lenses out of my broken frame and swiftly compared it to the frames they had in stock, and brought me a couple of workable options. The 'cheap seat' frames would do in a pinch, but struck me as flimsy, so I asked for the next step up, and Howard quickly found three frames we could work with. The whole process didn't take more than an hour, and I spent a little more than I had hoped, but left with a sturdier, more reliable RayBan frame, that actually fit better (chalk that up to Howard's craftsmanship) than the frame that had broken. The point of this long post is that we live in an era where many are feeling the pinch of a difficult economy and, in an effort to save money, patronize online opticians. And it's true, you sometimes get a wider choice of frames and save money on frames that way; but I'm sorry to say that whenever I've gone that option, I've ended up with scratch guard coatings that fails too quickly, frames that don't fit properly, or are made with hardware that many local opticians cannot repair in a timely fashion, if they have the right hardware at all. And the customer service is often anonymous and distant. The optician I spoke with at Optix (sadly I never caught his name) and Howard Levinson at Dr. C Optometry almost felt like throwbacks to an era when merchants prioritized customer service. They were genuinely concerned with, and took pride in, being helpful. Five stars to both men. Howard's customer service, and proper fitting of the frame on my wide head, was definitely worth the extra money I spent on getting a frame and fitting at Dr. C's Optometry, over what I might have saved online. read more

Dr. C is amazing! Here's why. Late yesterday night (Friday), I noticed an issue with my eye. That's a big problem because I'm leaving the country for 5 weeks tomorrow (Sunday), and I didn't know if my condition was serious. I showed up without an appointment this morning (Saturday) right before Dr. C's office opened, and explained my situation. Dr. C. herself took me in, examined me and provided a diagnosis within an hour. Not only that, but she also obtained a second opinion from an offsite eye doctor, at 10am on a Saturday morning, mind you. Had my diagnosis not been benign, plan B was to send me to that second eye doctor to see what could be done before my trip, which again is scheduled for tomorrow. Note that this was only my second visit to Dr. C; it's not like I've been a long-term customer (yet). Dr. C, I can't thank you enough for the peace of mind that you provided, and for this extraordinary level of customer service. First time here and had Dr. Quan who was super sweet, easy to talk to, and explained things well. The receptionists, and the tech were also extremely nice and welcoming which is always a huge plus! My appointment actually started on time and I didn't have to wait long at all to see Dr. Quan once my eye testing was done. I would definitely recommend this place! My only warning is that their services are quite pricey. My contact lens exam and fitting before insurance was $195. My new patient comprehensive eye exam before insurance was $170. I'd just give them a call to see what your price would be with/without insurance. Otherwise, love this place so far! read more

So happy I chose Doctor C!!!! I was way overdue for my annual eye exam. My previous Doctor no longer accepted my insurance and Dr. C's office was the first result that came up on my search. I decided to call because of all of the high reviews the office already has. Lety was very polite and patient on the phone. She waited a pretty long time for me to get my insurance info. I did not want to keep her waiting longer, so I told her I would call back. The other woman who answered the phone was also very polite. Luckily there was a last-minute cancellation in about an hour, so I took the appointment. I was happy to learn that I did not need to dilate my eyes since this office uses some type of imaging. Dr. C is polite and thorough. She took the time to answer all of my questions. Although I came in for a basic eye exam, during my exam I decided that I wanted to try contacts. Dr. C was able to move things around and get me to try some during that appointment. I had a very good experience with all of the staff members, including the gentleman who initially started my exam and the woman who assisted me with contacts. Since I had Lasik in the past, I was not sure if I would be able to get contacts again. I am so happy that I no longer have to go back to plain old glasses! I called Dr. C's office today at 4:00 pm with what I felt like was an emergency. I've had severe pain behind my right eye for days paired with headaches and with the help of Google I was convinced it was worst case scenario. Letty answered the phone and was so kind and gentle with me. In the middle of a busy day she got the Dr. on the phone with me right away and helped ease my mind by offering to see me immediately. I showed to the easy to find office with ample parking and got greeted by the super sweet front desk gals. Their new patient paperwork was easy to fill out and the waiting area was clean and comfortable! The office was moderately busy and even with no appointment they got me started quickly. Everybody I came in contact with made me feel more and more at ease and listened to. Dr. C came in after a series of tests and took about 10 minutes to get to know me personally and my eye history. She let me explain myself without interrupting and within 2 minutes of examining me was able to find the problem! She found a microscopic piece of plastic in my eye!! She painlessly removed it and the relief was instant. I'm a cash patient and the fees were very fair! I will never go anywhere else again! Thank you Dr. C and staff for your kindness and knowledge. Pros: - Dr. C is a very good optometrist. - Opticians are good at helping choose styles. - They have a nice selection of frames. Cons: - Opticians seemed undertrained, understaffed (so not great for walk-ins if you need a fix or are picking up, etc), and they use the old marker/ruler way of measuring interocular distance. - Long wait time on some lenses. I was a regular for a number of years but had to stop going at the beginning of 2018: I had an issue where the optician didn't listen to me when I said I couldn't use a particular kind of anti-glare coating, so I had to wait for the lenses, then return them when they were wrong and because they caused a fisheye effect. The second pair had the same fisheye problem, so Dr. C checked and said that the curvature was off. The third pair had the same fisheye problem, but by then I was tired of the whole thing and went somewhere else even though I had to pay out of pocket. I now believe that the problem might have been that the glass index was too low, when compared to the pair I received elsewhere. read more

Highly recommend if you live near Westwood. I don't know what parking is like since I just walk over from work but I would imagine you need to find street parking. The office is like as if you stepped into an aunt's house. Dr. C is great and straight to the point. I've been going to her for the past two years and I like that my exams aren't filled with frills and pointless questions. The staff is great about getting you scheduled and ordering contacts. I have to get my eyes scraped for the glaucoma test. I normally cause a scene whenever I get those done but Dr. C has this professional/you better not flip out and waste my time demeanor that it calms me. I can get my eyes scraped like a pro now!! So much better than getting the air gun shot into the eye. Anyways, once you make an appointment and order your contacts and everything, you should be in and out in an hour. If they can somehow cut that time down in half, I would give this place a full five stars. read more

I've been with Dr. C for over 10 years and every experience is always a pleasant one! My visits are never too long and the entire staff (especially Violet- my favorite) are so pleasant, friendly and helpful. I've referred a few co-workers here and everyone has always had the same experience. Had my annual eye exam this past weekend and when I go- I usually won't drive knowing that I'll be dilated and vision will be fuzzy for a few hours after. Well, now they offer you another alternative besides the usual drops. They can take a digital images of your eyes which stays with your record- one and done. No waiting. You can go about your day with no worry about being cautious. Love it and love Dr. C! I'm never getting rid of her. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM DR. C's STAFF Dr. C was very friendly, but her staff on the other hand, quite the opposite. Dr. C knew I went to a different optometry office (and drive an hour to see my optometrist) and tried to get me to switch, but it's tough when the level of customer service just doesn't measure up. I went to see Dr. C back in August 2016. I RECEIVED A BILL 10 MONTHS LATER (June 2017) saying the insurance denied the claim because my coverage terminated. My coverage was valid until February 2017, so the customer service rep, Letty, asked me to contact my insurance company directly. When I called Blue Cross, they said they did not receive any claims from Dr. C in August, September, or October 2016, and I confirmed that by logging in to my Blue Cross account. I called Letty back and informed her Blue Cross did not receive the claim and asked if she can resubmit. She insisted she did submit a claim, and I asked her a second time if she can go ahead and resubmit since the claim is not showing up in their system. She outright refused and said it was not her responsibility, and that she is in the middle of a meeting and cannot discuss further. Seriously? You can't do your job? And if you're actually IN a meeting, why would you have picked up the phone while mid-meeting? Even the Blue Cross claim form states that their preferred procedure is to have health care providers file claims instead of patients. You might get a friendly smile from Dr. C, but good luck if you receive a bill from her office - her staff is terrible and is unwilling to work with the patient in resolving billing issues. read more

I really hope this review helps improve the experience of this place. I've been going to this place since 2014, probably had 3/4 visits, my wife goes here and so will my 2 children. Staff and Dr are very nice and polite, no issues with them from that perspective. However, the staff, just need to learn about customer service. They seem to be very very laid back, to the point where you're not even sure they are working there.... Every time I walk in, I'm never greeted, it's not clear what they expect you to to. They really should think about that and come up with a plan of how they greet patients walking into the office. This last visit I had a 5:15 apt, arrived at 5:05. Walked in, walked up to the first desk, informed them I have a 5:15 apt. I was asked to fill in my name on a clip board and asked to wait, asked to write my name....on a clip board....surely there's a better way, anyway let's say it's old school. I decided to have a look at their glasses selection while I waited. At around 5:15 (yes, the time of my apt) a member of staff hands me a tablet and asks me to review the details they have on file and to confirm them. No mention of the Doc running late with her apts. It takes me all of 1/2 mins. I walk back to the reception desks and inform them that I have completed the request. Nothing is said to me (again) about the Dr running late on apts. No indication given to me of when she will see me....nothing. See what I mean by proactive customer service.....it's kind of lacking. I decide, to sit down and begin the count down to 5:25pm, this is the amount of time I've given this establishment to let me know when I'm likely to be seen or indeed called into my appointment (the way I see it, a customer/patient shouldn't have to ask....they should be informed regardless). While I'm waiting...I can see Dr C dealing with another patient....she's her usually friendly/caring self taking her time to deal with her patients needs (which I'm all for). In the meantime, I'm looking at the reception desk, that has 3!! members of staff, sitting there pleasantly looking very kind, nice and friendly, but not doing much else. As far as I can see....I'm the only other person waiting, so it's very likely I'm the last patient of the day....so what other pressing matters do they have except to deal with me....but maybe I shouldn't be expecting that, who knows (hint of sarcasm there, sorry). I was really really routing for any of the staff to speak to me, to reassure me that I will be seen soon or in fact for the Dr to be ready to see me before 5:25 arrived...unfortunately neither happened.... At 5:25 a stood up, walked over to the desk, and said "I've been waiting 10 mins, my apt was at 5:15, I'm leaving". A member of staff at that point told me that the Dr is almost ready to see me lol! My response "let the Dr know that when she has an appointment where she can see me on time, I'll have one of those bookings please, I'm leaving" Now, I know 10 mins isn't long to wait, heck I've waited a lot longer for apts, a lot longer. What I can't stand is that there seems to be this expectation that it's ok for me to just sit there and wait, without any information, it seems to be the norm....that's where things need to be addressed. If I give you the curtesy of turning up on time or earlier (as in my case) to my apt, I should expect the curtesy of being seen on time, if that's not possible, then please keep me informed of how long I will be waiting. The onus shouldn't be on the patient to ask questions...the staff should keep us informed at each step, and constantly re-evaluate the situation as it evolves....I'm rebooking my apt, let's see how it goes on my next visit. I really hope someone reads this and takes something from it and improves things so that patients have a better experience, because this place could be so much more.... read more

I visited this business a few months ago. I left angry and decided to post in Yelp. However, I was too angry. I knew Yelp wouldn't print two-thirds of my review. So here I am again. Here's the deal. MMy eye insurance kicked in Jan. 1. I went in (they're in my neighborhood) for an eye exam. I knew I was in trouble when I saw one horrible fake tree in the middle of the lobby. This business has the very basic equipment. Ophthalmology technology has by bypassed this business. They don't seem to care. I was bummed. My coverage also includes a 20% discount on new glasses. I didn't need a new pair as I liked my frames. So I asked the salesperson what a new pair of lens' cost (I have progressive). She said,"they start at $600. before I give you our discounts." SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR NEW LENS'? ARE YOU CRAZY! She said, "Again that's where they start. You, of course, won't be paying that." I said lady, have you heard of wonderful places like Warby Parker? Get with the times and you're so right, I won't be paying that. I'm dumbfounded that people aren't aware of alternate businesses that offer exceptional quality for reasonable prices. I've had two very bad experiences with how they charge people. Pretty much, they try to rip people off! First, was few years ago when I got glasses here and I thoroughly checked my bill, which I never did before, and realized my insurance paid them more then they put on my receipt. So called them and asked them why did u charge me charge extra $80 when my insurance actually covered that portion. They tried to make excuses so I called my insurance and they called them. I ended up with a refund from them. This was so shady I stopped going there. Fast forward 5 years later I need contact exam so I go there because it's close to me and my other optometrist was booked and farther. Big mistake! Took two hours first of all and they tried to overcharge me again! I called them out and they said oh Let me check and went from trying to charge over $250 for the exam when I have insurance with $20 copay to charging $75. First I never get charged for exam. I just pay the co pay so I was thrown off. They said I got a glasses exam but the contact exam costs extra. I've always known optometrist office to give u the option of either or. Not do both when u don't need it and just charge u. Also, I understand there is sometimes a fitting fee but they usually tell u before and I've never had to pay unless there is new prescription, which was not the case here. I specifically told the doctor I don't need glasses just contacts. Gave her all the contact prescription info. Which was what she used to give me my prescription! I always steer clear of health offices that make me feel ripped off when I walk out of the office. This place was the worst! All I can do is never go back and spread the word so others don't make the same mistake. read more

Absolutely phenomenal! I just got back from my first exam with Dr. C and I immediately had to write a review because this was one of the best experiences I have ever had at any type of medical office, whether it be an optometrist, physician, etc. First off, Dr. C is sharp as a tack and absolutely knows her stuff. She exudes an aura of knowledge and experience that immediately makes you feel comfortable knowing that you are in good hands, while also displaying a truly genuine care for her patients. The best way I can describe it is imagine a combination of House M.D from the t.v show House and Julie Andrews' character in The Sound of Music. Secondly, her and her staff truly take the time to make you feel comfortable and cared for. I came in for an eye exam and to also potentially get contacts. After my eye exam, she gave me a pair of lenses to walk around with and encouraged me to go outside to see how they felt. My prior optometrist had always just put me in that machine that compares lenses (1. . .or 2. . .2. . .or . . 3) and then given me a prescription. After the exam was done, I mentioned to her how I was interested in getting contacts so she immediately set me up with a pair of trials and brought me to one of her staff Michelle to teach me how to put them on, take them off, etc. Because I suck at life, I had the hardest time ever getting those things in and out of my eyes. Seriously, not to sound overdramatic because I see people popping contacts in and out like it's nothing but it was one of the toughest things I have ever done in my life. Every time my finger got anywhere near my eye I would flinch like a vampire being hit with a heavy dose of sunshine (the I vant to suck your blood kind not the glittery Edward Cullen kind). By the end of it my eyes were bloodshot and I had cried more tears than than most people do watching The Notebook, but I felt comfortable with what I was doing. Actual times I put my contacts in and out: 2. I told you I suck at life Michelle was absolutely amazing though and incredibly patient with me and offered me instruction and encouragement the whole time.Not only that, but even though I was taking forever she not only intently watched me every time I would make an attempt to ensure that I was doing it correctly and offer advice but her and Dr. C actually encouraged me to take my time to try it one more time after the first time to ensure I felt comfortable. Usually at a medical office no matter how great the main doctor is, for the 20 minutes or so (if you're lucky) that you get, you still feel like you're shuffling in and shuffling out, and you might get a friendly receptionist but the rest of the staff don't really know what they're doing. Both Dr. C and Michelle really took their time and were very good and I would definitely recommend them. Anyway, I wanted to conclude with a double entendre about how I can "see the world more clearly" thanks to Dr. C Optometry but I need to get ready to leave soon so I'll end here. read more
