Disappointing change in customer service - Beware of the manager I have been a loyal customer of Keum Kang Optical since they were located in Rowland Heights. The owners and his wife were always incredibly kind, welcoming, and provided excellent service and fair pricing. Even after they moved to LA, I willingly made the long drive because of my trust in them. Their daughter became the optometrist a long time ago, and seeing her now made me realize how much time has passed and that the owners seem to be looking forward to retirement. Unfortunately, the customer service has severely deteriorated due to a middle-aged manager and a couple of senior staff members. This manager acts as if they own the place and has been consistently rude to both customers and new employees. I kept returning hoping it would improve, but every visit was uncomfortable. The breaking point was when a new employee correctly identified a lens mistake made by another staff member. Instead of being grateful, the manager publicly yelled at and took her anger out on that new employee right in front of customers. Seeing such unprofessional behavior made me decide never to return. I heard they recently moved locations again. If that same manager and those rude staff members are still working there, I strongly advise against going. I had such a great experience at Gold Optometry! I came in to get new glasses and was examined by Dr. Michelle Kim, and she was absolutely amazing. She was incredibly detailed, friendly, and made me feel very comfortable throughout the entire exam. I've been to several optometrists before, but this was by far the best experience I've had. She was very patient and understanding about my concerns and my complicated vision needs. My previous glasses were made at Target Optical, and they were so uncomfortable that my eyes constantly felt tired and strained. The gentleman who helped me with my glasses fitting and insurance was also extremely professional, knowledgeable, and attentive to all my concerns. Everyone there is friendly, skilled, and knowledgeable. I recently got a pair of glasses with progressive lenses, and adjusting to them wasn't easy. I went back about three times and saw four different technicians for adjustments. Mr. Matthew Park was the last person who assisted me, and he truly stood out. He was patient, attentive, and highly knowledgeable. He even remade my lenses at no charge and put in a great deal of effort to ensure I was satisfied. I went back once more for another adjustment, and now they feel almost perfect. If you're someone who's hard to please or have a more challenging case, I highly recommend asking for Mr. Park. I've been coming here for eyeglasses and eye exams for 10+ years. You walk in, are greeted by the staff, and instructed to sit and wait for 5-10 minutes. The staff then guide you through the preliminary questioning/basic exams. You then wait again until the optometrist calls you into their room. You proceed with the eye exam and are sent back out to the main lobby to choose your glasses and complete your purchase. The optometrist is friendly and speedy, but the rest of the staff come off as cold, distant, and apathetic. They've been this way for over a decade and I have never experienced friendly service here. It may be due to cultural differences but I wish they could learn to be friendlier to their guests. read more

I got glasses and they put in a prescription. The first set had a weird glare due to some add on I got (I don't know which add on caused it, but on this model of glasses, the glass extends past my face so it reflected back into my field of vision) but they replaced it and removed the add on and the glasses work well for driving now. It's a beautiful optometry store with all of the couture, high end sunglasses & eyeware such as Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Cartier, Tiffany's, Ray Ban, etc They're hard to find - inside of the Rodeo Galleria - a collection of stores - kind of like a swap meet of food, jewelry and clothing My sis and I went to grab some food and wandered around. Their window displayed the most adorable collection of turtles. We just had to go inside and see more of the cute turtles. They have over 3,000 turtles in the store. So cute!!! Then I remembered my polarized, anti reflective prescription sunglasses in my purse have been scratched up. I got estimates for $175 and up to have them redone. These guys quoted $130! Yay! Let's start of with Chris being the rudest employee amongst his other employees. If you are not Asian or speak their language they won't assist you or acknowledge you. Every time I came here with an appointment I am waiting more than 30mins to see the damn doctor. Their was an internal mistake with my appointment that they made and when I am here to see the doctor they tell me it's for another day but I have proof that they called me a day before to confirm my appointment for the day off. They deny everything in their souls to make sure you seem crazy. The lady who knows good English tried to be the mediator and help me after I started to be loud. Never going to come here again. I have been wearing glasses and contact lenses for most of my life for about 40 years. So I've been to many optometrists and have seen my share of both good and bad places. I came here after my brother who now lives in LA got his glasses here. I live in San Francisco and my current optometrist here went from good to bad. so bad that my last glasses did not work out, couldn't see well, and just horrible. I came down to LA just so I could come here and hopefully get a replacement. To my surprise, the optometrist knew exactly what my problem was and she understood what I'd been going through. In just a few minutes, she prescribes the correct strength for my glasses and swiftly made me feel so at ease. The process of picking the frames and getting fit was just wonderful. Chris who helped me was very professional and knowledgeable. The total price I ended up paying was in line with what I was able to pay. So I went back and the guy who was fixing it starched my lenses so he said they would order a new one and would call me. Not sure how long ago it was but no one called and still waiting. Sent a text, they said they would check. Not sure what they do there but it is not very good customer service or as a matter of fact. Still a disorganized and very crap service. They said they would call me back and still waiting. Called and they have no record of it. Not very happy. I just made an appointment at my old place. Dr. Young is a calming presence and helped to alleviate my nerves when I decided to finally try contacts after 10+ years of strictly wearing glasses. The exam was thorough and strangely relaxing! Afterwards, Chris in the front taught me how to remove and reapply the contacts so I'd know what to do on my own. Any questions I had were thoroughly answered and they wrote down recs for me to buy over the counter in case of any discomfort. If I could give a medal for the standard of excellent customer service, Gold Optometry would take the gold (get it?). I have not had one bad experience in my 13 years as one of their patients. Jay, Chris and the rest of the team are patient, always willing to answer questions and will take the time to explain any insurance related or coverage questions you may have. They can remember my previous prescriptions and purchases and are willing to provide feedback on what other options I have. They have group of optometrists on staff and all of them do an excellent job of explaining tests and results for you. They keep very up-to-date and organized records so you never have to explain yourself from the previous exam. They have a HUGE selection of frames, ranging from high end brands to the more affordable options. They also have frames in style for the season so you never feel like you are choosing from dated stock. I really appreciate their selection because if I have to wear glasses on a regular basis, I should look cute in them. I have never had an issue finding frames I don't like. In fact, it's the opposite. I always have a problem choosing between frames. Walk-ins are available but appointments are suggested. The longest I've ever had to wait for a walk-in was approximately 30 mins before seeing the optometrist. If you do have to wait a while, you can always browse the selection of frames so you have in idea of what you want before you are done with your exam. I highly suggest Gold Optometry for your next vision needs. You won't be disappointed. read more

I would give 0 star if I can. The optometrist is very good in service, but other employees are terrible. I went there for my daughter's eye exam and eyeglasses for the first time last year. When we enter the store no one greets or care when customer comes in. No direction for waiting or what we going to do. During the eye exam, this optometrist was very nice and kind, so my daughter felt very comfortable. After done exam again, no one care. However, we selected eyeglasses, and I choose to pay more in my pocket than insurance covered because it's my daughter's first glasses. It seems like they only care whoever get expansive glasses or pay out of customer's pocket than paid by insurance covered. They told me come after 2 weeks. I asked them could you give confirmation call after you received glasses, and they said no it will be ready in 2 weeks so I just can come by. I went there after 2 weeks (on the date they wrote in my receipt) it was not in ready. They also didn't give me direction that I need to bring my daughter there when I have to pick up her glasses so they can adjust for her. I just waste 1 1/2 hrs that day. After week later, finally I can pick up her glasses but when I got there, they can't find my daughter's glass so I waited 20 minutes to they find out where they put her glasses. It was terrible experience there. Last weekend, same happened. I scheduled my daughter's eye exam, and this time I don't want to waste my time again, so I called middle of the week for confirmation. This employee said OKAY to come but guess what?! when I got there, they said my daughter's insurance cannot get in service on weekend, also she only can-do eye exam every 2 years. Nobody notices me, even I called them for confirmation. I wasted my time again! I will not be going to go there again ever. read more

I loooove this place! I had perfect vision for my entire life up to this year. I came in for my first eye exam ever here after my parents recommended the place. They were super busy when I came in so I had to wait about 45 minutes but it wasn't too bad since it's located inside Rodeo Galleria and there's lots of little shops you can look through while you wait. When it was my turn, Dr. Michelle Kim greeted me with a warm smile. She made me feel welcome and at ease right away. She is super friendly, very smart, nice, honest, professional, personal, caring, everything you want in an optometrist! She explained everything to me really well, too and didn't rush through anything although she had many other patients waiting outside. Afterwards, a guy named Andrew helped me pick out frames that would best fit my face. He was very patient with me and let me try on every single pair of plastic frames I pointed at (there must have been at least 20). He was really nice and funny and helped me make the right choice by asking me exactly what I wanted, and not trying to make me buy what he likes or what's most expensive. I finally decided on a pair of black Barton Perreira frames which I really like! Since I came right before they were about to close, I had to come back another day to pick up my glasses but I think usually they can finish making them within an hour if they're not too busy. I'm not surprised that many other reviews rave about Dr. Michelle Kim and Andrew because they are seriously awesome! Definitely ask for Andrew when you go to pick out frames! read more

This place is nicely sizable, it isn't so busy even though I've been here for about an hour and it's understandable because there's I think only 2 or maybe 3 doctors. The rest of the staff help those who have seen the eye doctors. There's an extremely gentle woman who greets everybody and makes everyone feel welcomed. And the turtles. There's lots of turtles here. I've been coming for the past 4 years now and I love them for many reasons. Their prices are very competitive and they offer a lot of styles while offering all of the brand names out there. They also have a great, friendly staff. I've referred many friends here and they also had a great experience! My guy is Chris, but he really can't speak English, but the other guys are just as helpful. A lot of them are funny. So be ready to have a great experience. The only thing is that place can be hard to find since it in the very back of an indoor mall called the Rodeo Galleria. Just go in and head straight to the back center. For those of you in the OC, they have a second location in Garden Grove, on Garden Grove Blvd., on the Korean side, next to H Mart. Fyi, they are also in-network for Eye Med, so that's a plus. The second thing I like is the optometrists here. I saw Dr. Na a few years ago, but most recently, I was seen by Dr. Kim and she took very good care of me. I came for a regular eye exam and she helped me for my dry eye. She really took her time to explain all the possibilities of what could be going on. She wrote me a Rx for Eye drops and referred me to a dry eye specialist. I highly recommend coming here for your exams and optometrist visits as well. read more

She is very patient and kind, and truly listens and validates all of your concerns, rather than making you feel like it's all in your head. I don't have insurance and pay cash, and their prices are very reasonable. The contact lens prices are the same as what I would find online elsewhere.
