I just picked up a painting that I had framed at this Hobby Lobby. When I went to the counter, the person who brought my painting out hastily handed it off to another employee who almost literally ran to drop the painting off at the register before I had a chance to examine it. Got home, unwrapped the painting, and the left to right framing is off by a good quarter inch. A mistake is one thing, but I really am insulted by being given the "Bum's Rush" out the door! read more

My first time in this Hobby Lobby. It was very much like the store near my house and therefore easy to go right to what I was looking for ... green, wired ribbon. Since my husband & I were doing errands together, I was able to introduce him to the Hobby Lobby experience. (Could you hear him screaming?) He did find the prices on the Christmas items somewhat soothing. We did not venture out of the ribbon, wrap, and Christmas ornament area so I can't speak to the rest of the store. However, there seemed to be a lot more items left than in my local store. Either this store had recently restocked or my usual store (Lombard) does a crazy amount of traffic. Same friendly service. The store in Palatine was very busy which is expected this time of year, which I'm not complaining about, it is the checkers! i only had 4 items and it took so long for her to bag them that the register timed out! she literally moved in extreme slow motion, to top it offshe was extremely unfriendly, I was completely ignored after saying thank yoI. I love this store, but the customer service is the worst. I was in the store this afternoon and there were 5-6 people in front of me. A customer had a question about something being marked down. The clerk at the register told her she couldn't scan something to see if it was on sale, and she knows it's not on sale. The customer asked again if the clerk could ring it up to see the price and the girl refused, saying she'd have to call a manager. She was so rude to the customer, I almost walked out. I normally love the store and I come here for a lot of things however the manager today on July 31st was extremely rude and short with me. I purchased things yesterday on July 30th and had my entire purchase in the car apparently the cashier yesterday made a mistake which is okay it happens. However today I want to return things including this one item and the manager told me that I purchased a different item that I've never seen before and refused to refund me my money or make an offer and instead he took the item from my bag that he would never have known was missing in the first place. He was not polite he was not accommodating and he was very harsh. I went there on Monday 4/11/2022, looked at the signs displayed on so many tables saying 50% off all table top. Of those, there were 90% framed decor displayed on each of those tables. I took one and when I tried to pay for it, they charged 100% full price. I asked the lady at check out and she said only table top that is 50% off, she pointed at printed add for me to see. I paid and went back to look at the display again. All the 50% off table top sale signs were at the tables where displayed wall decor (while wall decor are not on sale). I went back to her and return the item. I also let her know that the 50% off signs might be in the wrong place because it mislead people to buy full price items while they believe they are half price. She did not handle it well and pointed at the printed ad she had again and said "Table Top"!!! She did not listen to what I suggested, but confirmed that she is right. Everything is correct according to the ad. I did not say anything else to her, but thought the big sign that displayed is also an advertising located right at the point of purchase! I have not seen the printed ad, but I walked in and saw those sale signs. It is misleading and I have heard that this store is religious! "What a strange, weird world this is." That's all I can think every time I leave a Hobby Lobby... which after this past visit, will be my official last. First off, it's creepy. Not just regular creepy, but preachy creepy, which in my book is just about the worst kind of creepy. I was dragged by my bargain-loving boyfriend to look at some table/stand/drawer thing that was actually pretty nice from afar, though up close it was chipped and scratchy, like most of their broken mish-mosh for sale items. Anyway, we're wandering around and I see this big 40% off sale things labeled 'summer' items, but were basically those big wooden crosses with stakes on the end that churches litter their lawns with for anti-abortion business and whatnot. Okay. Interesting. Apparently those are a summer specific item here and they're stocked to fly off the shelves with those 40% off rates. I guess they're good for any kind of Christian memorial, but just to go on record, if I die before my mother and god-fearing grandmother, please keep those women away from any Hobby Lobby that may be offering items featuring their two favorite things: crucifixes and sales. I'd prefer that my grave not be littered with a bunch of crap- but if they feel like they absolutely have to put weird things in the ground, please point them in the way of anywhere that sells non-denominational pinwheels. Back in my crafty days I'd frequented the old Lombard location, but since making my move to the NW 'burbs, I've made 2-3 stops at this location and both times I left feeling majorly ripped off (don't even bother trying to put together a Fantastic Mr Fox Costume here for under $200) or with the heebie-jeebies. The store is huge and has a wide range of items, but if you're looking for something specific and crafty, Michael's is SO much easier to navigate, and that's saying a lot considering Michael's are almost unanimously a custerf*ck. And if you're looking for something home-goods related, you're better off going to an actual HomeGoods, Marshall's or TJ Maxx where the quality is better and the selection is paired down enough so you don't have to sift through three dozen broken ceramic garden animals before finding one where the imperfection is on the bottom when you can't notice it so much. I won't deny that they have some cute and cool-looking ish here, but that's it's all broken or about to break right after you pay for it makes it not worth the trouble... unless it's an anti-abortion cross, in which case it'll not only be in perfect condition, but also 40% off. As I said before, I tried to put together a low-budget Fantastic Mr Fox costume 2-years ago and they carried so few of the same items in quantities over 1, that it was impossible to put anything together without visiting 20 different HLs and spending several hundred dollars for tiny, crafty crap. On another note, stop with the f*cking manual pricing. Get a real computer, get a price-tag scanner, and welcome yourself to the future... or 1991. Seriously. The manual way takes forever and is totally inaccurate, plus, it's like you're baiting people to steal from you when you make it so.damn.easy. And what's with the weird signs on the door about reserving the right to stop and manually search anyone in the store? Gross. Grody. No way. A. I don't like being touched. B. What would one have to do to prompt an employee frisking? If it's stealing (which seems like the only reasonable reason for ever even wanting to frisk someone in a retail store), why not just pony up and get the freaking barcode and scanners to ease up on the theft rate a bit? In the end, I probably would have considered peaking my head into a Hobby Lobby at a future date if I hadn't done a quick Google search and read some religious hoo-ha that just totally weirds me out, but now that I've done the bare minimum research on Hobby Lobby and been annoyed with location a liberal amount of times, I'm completely comfortable stating that I'll never be back and they need to quit running the registers like it's before Christ's time and get a damn price scanner. read more

In my experience, a typical Hobby Lobby experience is somewhat bittersweet; most of the time there are some nice sale prices, but it's incredibly hard to turn down any aisle without seeing 'Jesus' somewhere, I'm not religious, but I'm also not anti-religion (don't get me started on this discussion) but I just don't like being force-fed others' religious beliefs. I found myself in the 'Summer Craft Section' and, literally, every product in that area said 'Team Jesus', or featured a fish or a dove, or had 'inspirational' religious phrases on the project itself. I wouldn't have minded so much if it was appropriately named 'Christian Crafts' or something, not general crafts for summer. [For the record I didn't need any crafts, I was walking past and saw the display.] I understand that taking stars away from their rating for reasons regarding religion may reflect a subjective method of criticism, but when I'm trying to find a simple handkerchief (which wasn't in stock) and I see crosses and rosaries everywhere, it feels a little off-putting... like I should have signed the cross when I walked in. This really wouldn't upset or bother me if Hobby Lobby advertised how religious they are. They tend to purposely keep it relatively secret until you try to go there on a Sunday and read their fine-print sign on the door telling you they're closed for prayer. I feel like weekends are exactly the time when people do crafts/projects/shopping/planning/sewing/etc. so why would they be closed? All that said, each Hobby Lobby has nearly the exact same layout but there seems to be very limited availability of certain items which differs from store to store. I understand that's how it goes, but when it's a niche-store, I'd expect there to be a generous inventory. I guess I figure that its a 'hobby' store, so people go there for their hobby needs and want to pick up all the supplies needed for their projects so they can get started as soon as possible; meaning the store would be stocked (especially with items included in in their weekly sales) and the customer wouldn't have to shop around to find something. I, for one, cannot keep coming back to see if things are in stock; I like the one stop shop approach. I rarely summarize my reviews at the end, but I feel that a few changes to Hobby Lobby could benefit the business and give them a higher Yelp rating (at least from me): 1. Limit the amount of Christianity in general items; I'm not requesting they get rid of anything, just limit it to a section of the store. 2. Stay open on Sundays. Based on the employees I've seen working here, I'm pretty sure they don't spend all day on Sunday praying; I think more business would come through, even with limited hours. 3. Keep items in stock, (especially sale items). Nothing discourages me more than getting just about everything I need for a project then discovering they don't have a main item or supply on hand, and I'll have to find a Michael's nearby to get it. Soon, I'll just skip the first step and head straight to them in the first place. The bottom line is that Hobby Lobby has some overall room for improvement. When you rate one, you rate them all. Hopefully their target market sees some changes in the future, otherwise Sundays won't be the only day they're closed. read more

One fell apart while mounting a picture - I returned that - then the replacement fell apart while hanging on the wall - Hobby Lobby replace both, but I ended up gluing triangular corners to reinforce the frame - Basically, the HL should really check the quality of their merchandise before putting it on the shelf read more

Love this Hobby Lobby! It's always stocked and clean! I love walking into the foyer area because it not only has furniture displayed, but also smaller items from inside the store. I love that the store has a focus on Jesus! The aisles are clean and well stocked. I was listening to a manager and another employee start working on another project. The music in the store is also focused on Jesus! I LOVE it! I am praying constantly in this store, because the music is speaking to my heart while shopping. It's peaceful. It's relaxing. It's fun. I cannot go into this Hobby Lobby and leave in under an hour! It's like being on a treasure hunt! Each aisle has a new treasure to find. I'm still excited about my purchases yesterday and shared them on my YouTube channel. I usually stop in once a week and don't plan to stop anytime soon. The only thing I couldn't find is some good old fashioned Angel Hair (snow). I ended up purchasing it online instead. I have had a great experience every time I stop. Customers are definitely not a priority here. I used to often buy fabric here and I would spend AGES waiting to get something cut because everyone who could cut was busy stocking or elsewhere. Employees are friendly but it ends at that. Please hire more people because it seems like the store is constantly understaffed. Also- please get with the 21st century. Like, y'know: barcodes and scanners, being open on Sundays, appropriate benefits for your employees. Love the store, love the merchandise, love the products. Seriously, the customer experience has to improve, though - we've spent some serious time-taken-off-my-life time in the wrong check out lane. The returns person does not have the authority to take a return and has to call for the manager for each return. When I asked why, I was told that someone abused their power so they can't accept returns anymore without manager approval. Seriously? Why not have a different location so the manager can stand there and approve it each time - not at a check out lane. Get over it - you're a Christian store. Start trusting your employees or get rid of them. You need more registers available, and people at the fabric center to help. Cut down on our wait time, please. And install scanners for UPC codes - there's no way you can have stickers with prices on all items. Join this century, please. read more

We recently used Hobby Lobby for silk flower needs for a bridal shower and wedding. The assortment and varieties were fantastic. The prices were even better! I personally love the "Christian themed" merchandise as well. There is a lot to choose from. However, there is also a tremendous amount of merchandise that is not faith based. Throughout every visit to this store, I was assisted by the manager who was kind and helpful. (Unfortunately, there was one older woman working in floral who was not). I went to get a drawing framed and matted. Be prepared for frustration and possibly wasting 30 minutes or more waiting for help. 2 ladies were ahead of me. OK, no problem. I asked the one and only employee behind the framing desk to give me an estimate of how long I would wait. He said "20 minutes." After 20 minutes, I came back and figured out that the 2 ladies ahead of me had numerous framing projects that they were still going back and forth with the employee about , taking their sweet time, and the employee knew he would be tied up. The employee did not pay any attention to me. The employee did not offer to to call for assistance knowing that the customers ahead of me might take hours. Until I interrupted for a second time, and began to complain and almost leave the store, hauling my bulky drawing with me, I was ignored. I called for a manager on my cell phone, who finally got things moving. My time is valuable. At least do your best to truthfully explain delays, ask for another employee to assist, and acknowledge and respect your customers' time. Thank you. read more

I enjoy shopping in this store because of the music! It's a nice and soothing Christian worship and hymns music. It just sets me in a good mood right when I walk in. It's a typical hobby lobby but has a great card section and great deals on off-season decor items. I've been a time shopper at Hobby Lobby...not anymore. For the first time I went in to exchange some items that I received as a gift. I was told it would not be a problem. I then spent the next thirty minutes choosing the items I wanted in exchange. During that time, the store manager Randy Hendley was in the same aisle looking up the price of the item for me. I then went and waited in line (one cashier) When it was my turn I was informed that all the return items would be subject to the sales prices in every circular for the past thirty days, store policy. Hmmmm let's look at the logic of this. That means they are assuming the person who gave me the gift of art supplies went in every week for a month to choose the items on . In the meantime, the customers are piling up while they try to make the point that this is store policy. Ok...but they had thirty minutes to do all that so I could be checked out in a timely fashion. Now me, and the six customers in back of me were all going to stand there while they went through thirty days of circulars. Not good customer service Hobby Lobby! The embarrassment of holding up so many people and dealing with your inefficiency has cost you a good customer, and a bad review. It's time to update your checkout system so you can give gift receipts, and speed up service that is slow and inefficient. read more
