What can I say, wow! I passed this shop on my way to lunch and am so happy I decided to step in. This is a total gem of a store with the most beautiful and unique selection of jewelry, gifts and furniture. The staff was helpful and I didn't feel pressure whatsoever. I walked out with a piece of jewelry and have already received 3 compliments from strangers on it. Will definitely be back soon to check out their collection of home decor items. I love this place. Coolest store in HP. You can tell by their inventory, that whoever buys for this store has a great sense of what cool actually is. They make it look easy, which is what makes it so cool. I love going there and get my entire family gifts from there all the time. I had 2 store credits from gifts I received. When I tried to use them, I was told credits cannot be used on sale items. I looked at the credits and NOWHERE on it does it say that cannot be used on sale items. But the sales person just pointed to a sign with hand scribble on it on the wall behind the register. I asked why and she said because their stuff only goes on sake 1x a year, so you cannot use credits. So I left the item. This makes no sense? Am I missing something? I'm completely open to hearing a logical explanation. A credit is issued for a previously purchased / returned item. It is in essence, your money that a merchant already has. So why can this merchant say, you cannot use your money on a sale item? I do understand not being able to use discounts or coupons on sale items, as the item is already marked down and smaller businesses can't afford that additional discount. But a credit is the same as cash. Can someone please explain this to me? I would not recommend buying gifts here because if the recipient wants to return / exchange it... They are at the mercy of the senseless merchant. To me this just feels like desperation on the part of a merchant to try and get more money out of you. I was still stuck with these two credits though, and eventually used them on something. Oh and that hand written sign of sale/credit policy was also gone. I've been going to this place ever since it opened years ago and I'm happy to report that it hasn't changed. The snobby clerks eye me up and down, approximate my net worth (I guess my jeans, sneakers, t-shirt and baseball cap don't scream $) and then ignore me no matter how long I'm in the store even if I'm the only one there. It's not like they sell the Hope diamond here, just arts and crafts. But then again it is the status conscious North Shore. I did a walk through just to see if I'm still batting 1000. Yup. read more

This is a beautiful store with whimsical furniture and accessories and some very expensive jewelry. The downside is the dismissive treatment from the sales ladies. On my first visit there, they brought out a necklace I asked to see. I was trying to decide whether to try it on. I didn't decide quickly enough for the sales ladies. So, they pitched it to another customer standing next to me. That was it for me. I was out the door, pronto. The sales ladies didn't want to waste time on someone they thought was unlikely to buy. The sales people are so helpful With selecting gifts and personal items that fit your budget and tastes. The wood pieces are decorative and useful ranging from sophisticated to whimsical and catering to many different age brackets. And this is my favorite store for purchasing jewelry. Maybe ten years ago I wandered in when I was a sales rep. I spent all day everyday in gifts shops across Illinois. Rarely did I buy from stores, I had so many samples from so many vendors. I went in here today to shop for a gift for someone. As I walked in, an employee not 10 feet from me gave me a disgusted look and walked away. For some reason, I decided to take a look around the store anyway. For the several minutes I was there, the rest of the staff ignored me even though they were doing nothing. As a young male, I realize I am not the stores usual clientele but that does not excuses such treatment.This is the second time I've had an experience like this here. I recently went to City Woods to purchase a gift. I had a limited budget and it was a group gift- so I needed to stay within the guidelines. The sales lady was very understanding and did not try to get me to spend more than The group wanted. She was so helpful in offering suggestions and trying to find out more about the recipient so that the gift would be appropriate. I was able to find a lovely gift and really felt that the store valued my business- even tough the purchase was not very large. a nice feeling in these days of unhelpful sales staff. Citiwoods has been my "go to" store for years. When I need a wedding or graduation gift I know that I can find a lovely hand made item that also supports the artist. The wood pieces are the pieces I look at first. Everything is well made, creative, and unusual. As an artist myself, I appreciate the time and care that goes into creating an original piece of art.
