HK BBQ House beats every Chinese restaurant near where I live in Gardena. I will drive the distance which is over an hour just to get their food. The service is quick, the food is excellent!!!! Some of the food we got was good, some was okay. I think Mongolian beef is worth it and personally, I liked the house special fried rice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was not too loud in there and the place was relatively empty so that was nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Biggest disappointment was service, because our table ordered chow mein and the waiter brought us chow fun (flat noodles with gravy). When we told him that we ordered chow mein, he told us that what we ordered was chow fun, so I showed him what we ordered on the menu and he said "you wanted lo mein". While I get that, he spent a minute trying to figure out where the item was and couldn't find it. I reviewed pics on here and it seems like other people got the thick yellow noodles for chow mein. Anyway, they replaced it for us but I overheard the waiter tell his manager that we ordered chow fun by accident. The manager then told us something about "our mistake" upon paying, placing blame on us . The manager was nice about it, but we repeatedly told the waiter chow mein and he kept correcting us to chow fun. Also, there is a section of the menu labeled chow mein and a separate page labeled chow fun. I think I know what we ordered. Disappointing. read more

Wonderful food and service! After reading so many good reviews about this restaurant, I decided to give it a try. Well, the food was disappointing. The simple way to determine if a restaurant is any good is to try the basic food. If they can't do something basic, don't expect they can to any upscale food any better. We ordered the beef chow fun and wonton noodle soup. The verdict was the chow fun was burnt so bad that it tasted bitter, that scored a one star. The wonton soup was so bland, salty water would taste better, the wonton lacks texture and flavor, if you close your eyes you would not be able to identify what you are eating. That earned a one star......I gave a two star rating just being nice. I came, I tried, and I won't be back! read more

HK BBQ House is located in University Village off Iowa & University near UCR and the 91/60/215 Interchange. We went for the Roasted Duck w/ Wonton Noodle Soup. The Wontons came filled with Shrimp & Pork, the noodles were tasty, the broth was light and not salty, the broccoli was tender, and the duck was delicious. The duck sauce was the Chef's Kiss and became the star of the table. Flora was very friendly and helpful during the visit. A chef friend of mine posted this restaurant several times in social media and I bookmarked it for whenever I was in Riverside. I finally got to try it last weekend and was very impressed. This Cantonese style food is as good as anything you find in San Gabriel Valley. The prices are reasonable. The food is very fresh. It seems they genuinely prepare it after you order. They have a few combos of their barbeque items, such as 2 or 3 meats with rice. I ordered the duck with rice. It is very crispy with the fat nicely rendered and even the rice was so fluffy. There was a bit of Chinese broccoli on the side. The price for duck was about half what I normally see. I ordered the wonton soup and Singapore noodles to go, just to enjoy more of their dishes the next night. You know it's good when I want it two nights in a row. Located in University Village near UCR, the parking can be a little complicated. The service was fast and friendly. We were greeted and seated fairly quickly and the food didn't take long to come out after we ordered. Honestly, I didn't come in expecting much but for Asian food in Riverside this place is pretty good. We got the honey walnut shrimp with steamed rice and the House chow fun. Both dishes were pretty healthy portions and were really tasty! We split the two dishes between 4 girls and it was enough for us. I am now a new regular to this restaurant. Every dish I order here is made with quality and care. Every dish so far has been perfectly seasoned and so fresh My parents and myself are fond of the Yang Chow fried rice and the Ya chow beef with pan fried noodles. I've gotten the duck and chinese BBQ pork combo and the duck was surprisingly really good. It's hard to find authentic asian food in the IE and I feel like you can definitely tell that this place is authentic. I've had the lemon tea as well (a bit on the sweeter side compared to places I've had in the SGV and HK cafes in Rowland Heights) but still decent if I'm craving it. The only downside is that the food takes quite a bit to come out, even if it's not that busy but I wouldn't remove a star for that. I just think it's most likely pretty fresh. Service is always nice and the lady is sweet and willing to make recommendations, so definitely give this place a shot if you're seeking authentic Hong Kong style food. read more

It has been almost 5 years since the girls attended university in Riverside. We returned for the dedication of the Physician Assistant building and chose to have lunch at HK BBQ House before the ceremony as we were wanting Hong Kong style cafe food and wanted to give a restaurant new to us a try. Parking in the University Village Shopping Center was free. We realized that the restaurant was in the same shopping center as Uncle Chuang from which we had gotten baked goods once. We were greeted upon entering and one of the staff members put together two tables for our party of three. We were given menus, but we had already chosen our items on the drive there and waited for someone to take our order. We ordered the Hong Kong style pineapple bun with butter which comes 2 per order, the triple combo platter with soy sauce chicken, roasted duck, and honey barbeque pork, Hong Kong style roasted crispy pork, Hong Kong style shrimp and pork wonton noodle soup, house special filet mignon cubes, house special string beans, and 2 steamed rice. One of the young ladies ordered a Hong Kong milk tea along with me, while the other had a lemon tea. One of our servers let us know that there were straws on the table when she saw us stirring our milk tea with chopsticks. It has been ages since I have had Hong Kong milk tea. My grandmother would often drink the black tea with condensed milk when she was alive. The buns came out first and were warm. All the meat dishes were tasty and did not require the hoisin sauce that came with them. The skin on the pork was crispy and crunchy. Every bite of food brought pleasure. The same server happily brought us a small bowl with an extra soup spoon so that we could share the soup noodle. Another server provided the red vinegar one of the young ladies wanted with her noodles. The owner/manager saw the young lady struggling to get a portion of noodles in her soup bowl and brought her a pair of scissors to cut the noodles. The string beans had the right amount of red chili flakes to them. We really liked the gai lan in the wonton noodle soup and would have liked to order a whole dish of it as a vegetable dish to go with the roasted meat. The filet mignon was tender and delicate and nicely slivered for the dish. All the customers seemed happy with the food and service. The staff helped one party of guests take a photo as the guests were departing.
