HK BBQ House beats every Chinese restaurant near where I live in Gardena. I will drive the distance which is over an hour just to get their food. The service is quick, the food is excellent!!!! It is a hole-in-the-wall type of eatery, but these are the gems you always look for! The food is made with a lot of love. My favorite is their roasted duck noodle soup. The crispy pork belly is my second choice, followed by the roasted duck, but EVERYTHING they serve is top notch! I will miss coming here since I came here while completing my degree. Some of the food we got was good, some was okay. I think Mongolian beef is worth it and personally, I liked the house special fried rice. It was not too loud in there and the place was relatively empty so that was nice. Biggest disappointment was service, because our table ordered chow mein and the waiter brought us chow fun (flat noodles with gravy). When we told him that we ordered chow mein, he told us that what we ordered was chow fun, so I showed him what we ordered on the menu and he said "you wanted lo mein". While I get that, he spent a minute trying to figure out where the item was and couldn't find it. I reviewed pics on here and it seems like other people got the thick yellow noodles for chow mein. Anyway, they replaced it for us but I overheard the waiter tell his manager that we ordered chow fun by accident. The manager then told us something about "our mistake" upon paying, placing blame on us . The manager was nice about it, but we repeatedly told the waiter chow mein and he kept correcting us to chow fun. Also, there is a section of the menu labeled chow mein and a separate page labeled chow fun. I think I know what we ordered. Disappointing. read more

Ive been coming here for 3+ years. The food is always amazing and the service is perfect. It can get pretty busy during peak hours like dinner, but it's worth it. The food here never made me sick and it never tasted funny. Everything comes out pristine and beautiful. The portions are so big that a small eater like me can save this for another meal. Wonderful food and service! It's a bit busy at lunch time but the atmosphere gives comfortable rather than bustling. The crispy chow mein with beef and clear sauce is the best combination we've tried at this restaurant. Definitely crave this dish from time to time! The crispy squid was a bit off as it wasn't as crispy as we'd hoped and the seasoning was inconsistent. The simple way to determine if a restaurant is any good is to try the basic food. If they can't do something basic, don't expect they can to any upscale food any better. We ordered the beef chow fun and wonton noodle soup. The verdict was the chow fun was burnt so bad that it tasted bitter, that scored a one star. The wonton soup was so bland, salty water would taste better, the wonton lacks texture and flavor, if you close your eyes you would not be able to identify what you are eating. The Wontons came filled with Shrimp & Pork, the noodles were tasty, the broth was light and not salty, the broccoli was tender, and the duck was delicious. A chef friend of mine posted this restaurant several times in social media and I bookmarked it for whenever I was in Riverside. I finally got to try it last weekend and was very impressed. This Cantonese style food is as good as anything you find in San Gabriel Valley. The prices are reasonable. The food is very fresh. It seems they genuinely prepare it after you order. They have a few combos of their barbeque items, such as 2 or 3 meats with rice. I ordered the duck with rice. It is very crispy with the fat nicely rendered and even the rice was so fluffy. There was a bit of Chinese broccoli on the side. The price for duck was about half what I normally see. I ordered the wonton soup and Singapore noodles to go, just to enjoy more of their dishes the next night. You know it's good when I want it two nights in a row. We were greeted and seated fairly quickly and the food didn't take long to come out after we ordered. Honestly, I didn't come in expecting much but for Asian food in Riverside this place is pretty good. We got the honey walnut shrimp with steamed rice and the House chow fun.
