As a place called "HiTea", I didn't realize this place also had noodles and stir fry. Made to order and no MSG, which is a big plus in my books. Tried the Beef Chow Fun. It was steaming hot! Yum. I've never had the food here, but this is my go-to spot for tea in Ala Moana. There may be a lot of fancy spots available now, but the drinks here are simple and great. My favorite is the mango jasmine tea which is very floral but balances well with the mango flavor. The price is very reasonable compared to other spots like The Alley. Drinks can take a while to make here though so expect a wait. read more

One part of this review is for their smoothies which are refreshing and delicious. The loss of two stars is for the food part of this establishment. I went for lunch on Saturday and asked whether their Singapore Rice noodle dish contained any soy sauce and explained that I couldn't have anything with wheat. The guy said he would check in the back and ask for me. He told me that it didn't have soy sauce and I could customize what I wanted. Well, I knew it was too good to be true when the noodles were so flavorful and then I noticed the char siu pork which I know is marinated in at least soy/oyster sauce. If you're not gluten-free, it's great. The portions are large, they make it to order and it tastes great. Being gluten-free, I felt it later and since it was the only thing I ate all day, I knew I had been "glutened". I'm not celiac but very gluten sensitive. That was enough to give me some nausea and stomach cramping and foggy brain later in the day. I still go for their watermelon, Thai tea, taro drinks. The family has tried their pork chop plates and enjoyed the food, but if you are gluten-free, stay away from the food because I don't think they quite understand what contains gluten and what doesn't even if you explain it to them. read more

It's one of Ala Moana's The Lanai's more popular choices when it comes to dining. They're known for their rice plates and stir fry dishes as well as their various tea drinks. I noticed this on various trip to Ala Moana's the Lanai, usually on the weekends. Either them or the Mahaloha Burger counter sorta next door. I try not to come here, since the prices here for the rice & noodle dishes are over $10 on average and the various tea drinks can be over $4. However, when a friend of mine and I were here at The Lanai on a recent weekend, we were here playing Pokémon Go and my friend got his rice plate from HiTea. I was floored to see what he bought, but at $12, it's kind of pricey just for rice, but it is Ala Moana though. I decided to purchase the same thing, as a sampler to check things out. I normally try to stay on budget with eating out, but it's the sticker shock that got me that day. I guess the lure of trying something new clouded my better judgement that day. HiTea is basically a fast food counter, like many at The Lanai as well as the Makai food court on the first level. There's usually plenty of space for diners to enjoy and eat their food, but try to get here before 11am on any given day, especially when on the weekend as it usually gets packed and you can't get a seat. The service here is typical but fast and friendly. You order what you want and you get it within 10 minutes. Usually, they will call out your order number when it is ready. You could easily spend close to $20 with a drink. The overall experience here at HiTea - Ala Moana shopping center is as good as it can be. Fast food is usually is what it is. The product is semi restaurant standard, but they do it so well that it is good and a quick lunch or dinner spot for anyone and everyone who comes to Ala Moana shopping center. The likes about this place is that you can get quick tea drink here and the rice / noodle plates are good, although, as aforementioned before, the prices here can be a shocker. It's largely geared towards the tourists and shoppers here who end up here for a meal while for a day of shopping. Hot choices are abundant here, but my favorite so far would be their house fried rice. I kind of want to try their eggplant and tofu stirfry one of these days. The house fried rice was a generous portion, although spending $13 for it, you best believe you'll get a hearty shake for your money! It was delicious and very filling, especially when it's just a lot of carbs with some protein. One of the few places you can get Chinese cuisine at Ala Moana shopping center without having to do actual sit down dining. Recommended if you're in the area and want to check things out. The price sensitivity could get you (if you notice) because normally, Chinese take out isn't usually that much at other places. HiTea - Ala Moana is located on the 2nd floor of The Lanai food court, 1450 Ala Moana Blvd. They accept major credit cards, which is always a good thing, as well as cash. Parking at Ala Moana is very generous but can be contentious around meal times and any time during the holidays. Best bet would be to come here before or after the rush and you'll be okay. Many bus routes start or terminate service here at Ala Moana inside on Kona Street, so you could find the right one that's best for you. There are other routes that stop outside on Kapiolani Blvd too, which essentially is the other main thoroughfare that the shopping mall touches. If buses doesn't do justice, uber and lyft can help you get here, if you need them. HiTea Cafe is one of those places where you can get a good meal. While it's cheap or affordable, depends on your own definition of that. Come check it out and it's another place to have Chinese cuisine in Ala Moana shopping center. It's good! The service was typical fast food counter type affair, but fast and friendly. 3.5 stars for the overall experience. 4.0 stars for the food and the service. 2.5 stars for the prices, but it's Ala Moana. Actually, I'm glad I discovered this place when I first visited The Lanai. Now I come here when I'm in Ala Moana to grab a drink that seems to be fresh. The smoothies are consistent and isn't watery. The boba is decent and sweet. The price isn't too bad for being in the area! I believe it's less than $5? All I know is that it's cheaper than the one in Shirokiya lol. The wait to order and receive your drinks doesn't take as long either. There are 1-2 cashiers who would take the customer's orders, and I'm guessing they move fast because there's never a line of people ordering. It's a huge inconvenience going to downtown or farther for fresh smoothies. Their menu is quite large and extensive. They offer both food and boba drinks. Prices are decent, about $4.69 for a drink with one topping. Customer service was very nice and friendly. They were also very fast in churning my drink out. For my order I got the milk tea at 50% sweet. Best boba drink I have tried in Hawaii. Tea taste was quite strong and good. Yay! Ala Moana Center is finally getting more places to get your boba fix on. Now there are four places strategically placed in the mall so you no longer need to walk from one end of the mall to the other unless you're craving a specific businesses product. HiTEA is located inside the food court at The Lanai (By Macy's) next to Mahaloha Burger. I will stick with the fresh teas next time like the Jasmine Mango Tea, Passion Fruit (Lilikoi) Tea or Plantation Iced Tea because they use powdered flavorings for their milk teas. (The powdered stuff is too chalky and scratchy for me.) Tea drinks start at $3.98 and Smoothie/Blended drinks start at $4.98 for 22oz. so pricing is on par. It's 50¢ per add ins like boba, jellies, etc. The Strawberry Milk Tea was artificially fruity and not sure what type of tea they used because it wasn't floral like Jasmine tea. I'm definitely getting something else next time. Not sure if they still have the Chinese Food option because it was late in the evening & everything looked put away (it was close to 8pm). If they do I hope they have dim sum. This Food Court can use some dim sum. Only because that's what I'm craving right now, haha. But I think dim sum and milk tea is a match made in heaven even if my tummy won't agree. We were at Ala Moana Mall and I saw a couple of people walking around with boba drinks so it made me crave Thai Tea Boba. I finally stopped a girl sipping a boba drink as she passed by me. She told us to go to the Lanai food court. Since this food court is tucked away on the other side of Macy's, it took us a while to find it. I ordered a large Thai Tea w/boba and my husband got the Matcha Ice Tea w/boba. Their price is very cheap especially for Ala Moana; $3.98 for a large drink plus .50 cents for boba or topping. The Thai Tea was brewed well and had good balance of tea and milk. The boba was firm and chewy. They were very generous with the amount of boba they give. My only complaint is that the drink was a little too sweet. However, when the ice melted it tasted better. My husband enjoyed his drink too but the only comment I got from him was that it was good. While placing my order, I overheard an employee (possibly the owner) talking to a customer. The customer asked the employee not to bother filling up his drink all the way to the top. The employee/owner said, "are you sure? I want you to get your money's worth." I love it when I see an employee/owner making sure they don't cheat their customers. I will always be a customer here. They are super nice, fairly quick considering they are always busy and very tasty. - their smoothies are healthy and delicious. They make them with fresh fruits and ingredients. (Although I miss my v5 and all the other veggie freshly juiced drinks but that's ok ;-) ) - their food is really good and not made with monosodium glutamate (I'm allergic so I would know) - and their customer service is always wonderful. Every time I go they are always very friendly and nice to me when I ask questions or have a custom order. . Today I ordered the fried rice for the first time and it looked kinda pale which usually means not enough shoyu but I'm glad I tried it before I put more because it was very flavorful and filled with veggies and chicken.
