Ok. This is a LONG review because I usually love His & Hers but I am super annoyed and disappointed. I've been here many times and the problem I have is that the service and quality of food is very hit or miss depending on who's working... that goes from the waitress, to the bartender to the chef. My partner and I came in this afternoon (Saturday) around 12:30. The waitress is sweet and friendly, we sit, all is well. We both immediately order mimosas before ordering any food...now for context, there are maybe 8 ppl in the whole restaurant and about 15 minutes go by and I'm watching the waitress fiddle around the restaurant, be on her phone, chat with staff etc and I'm thinking...there's not enough ppl in here for us to not have our drinks yet and you're standing around doing nothing. So I tell my partner to get her attention, and she then says oh yea, what kind of mimosa was it? And then places the orders with the bartender in front of us. Soooooo we've been sitting here 15 minutes and bartender didn't even know to make the mimosas meanwhile you're just wandering around?? Flag 1. I let it go. He starts making drinks, we order food. I explain to the waitress that I don't want the sauce that comes with the catfish & grits, but only the fish, peppers, and grits, no sauce (because I come here frequently and I know how I like that dish). She says cool, no problem. Brings out the plate with no peppers, and I repeat that the only thing I didn't want was the sauce. She has to take it back. Flag 2. Because it's only 3 components lol, peppers, fish, grits.
By this point we're 25 minutes in and only one mimosa has made it our table. Mind you, food is already being brought out and still the two mimosas we ordered upon sitting down are not there. My partner again says hey... what's up with the other mimosa? The waitress reminds the bartender who STARTS making the second drink. Flag 3. My food comes back with the added peppers and it's just bleh. Idk who's cooking but I've ordered that exact same dish many times before and it was BANGING, like 10/10 but today?! I had a couple bites and decide that I would just take it home to doctor up, because it just wasn't it. I ask the waitress for a box to go, she says ok got you. I then watch her again, wander around the restaurant l, have full blown conversations with customers, stand around. I let another 10 minutes go by, assuming that shes remember and just bring me the box so we can go. She doesn't. So now I'm irritated and I say her, can you please bring me the box I asked you for 10 minutes ago? She apologizes and immediately gets the box. So now I'm thinking....why couldn't you have just done that when I asked you? Why am I having to repeatedly remind you about things we're asking for? So I'm ready to go. We were originally planning to get multiple rounds and more food but by this point I'm fed up.
I order a coffee to go. Mind you, it's brunch. The bartender tells me, "we'll it's going to take a while because I have to make a pot of coffee"....why tf don't you already have coffee made during brunch? I let it go and wait. He then says, what kind of coffee do you want? I'm like just a regular drip coffee with cream and sugar. He says cool. Brings me back a plain black coffee. I go back to the bar and I'm like do y'all have cream and sugar because I'm just ready to go. He says oh ok yea... and then proceeds to fiddle around the bar area looking for creamer before another person at the bar (who I'm assuming also works there) says..."don't bother we don't have any, you gotta go next door." Meaning to the OTHER UNAFFILIATED RESTAURANT NEXT DOOR. WHAT IN THE ENTIRE F*CK IS GOING ON?!?! You mean to tell me you don't have the basic condiments for coffee?! During brunch?! So then I wait for him to wrangle other ppls cream and sugar for the coffee I ordered at His & Hers.... Then there's this whole debacle about them not being able to print the receipt for our meal (we keep receipts for tracking expense purposes) which was selected when we paid the tab. Apparently the printer didn't work, and because the tab was closed we also couldn't get the receipt emailed to us. My partner had to basically take a picture of the order just to get a version of a receipt.
So here is the point. I am SO done with giving Black Owned Restaurants passes for unprofessional and ridiculous service and practices. It is so disheartening knowing that I came in there today planning to spend mad money and time, and had to leave early because of lack of attention to details, inconsistent food quality, and staff that kinda didn't seem to know what was going on. YALL HAVE GOT TO DO BETTER. PERIOD. I've spent a lot of money at this place, and will probably go back again at some point, but it won't be for a good while.
