Gyro pita was filling and tastes amazing! Service was great and the chef makes some great food. Really enjoyed my experience here.

I was excited to see Brookland get a new sit down dining option. So far I have been for lunch and breakfast with friends. We had the salmon wrap with fries, biscuits and gravy, fruit smoothies, pancakes, western omelet, breakfast burrito and corned beef hash. Overall, everyone was beyond satisfied and eager to return to try more things. The portions are generous, everything tastes fresh and homemade. Given the way prices are going up at restaurants all over the city it was refreshing to go somewhere that puts value - delicious food at a good price over "instagramable vibes". There were some tiny hiccups that one would expect with a brand new restaurant that hopefully will get ironed out. Shout out to Carlos, the server, who is caring and warm. Also, bonus points for the chef coming out to the dining room and stopping by each table. I hope they do well!

The bar and seating are decent sized and the staff is very friendly. The reason for such low stars is no matter what day of the week or how busy it may seem they only have one staff member to service the bar and the seating areas and the poor bartender is usually pulled in so many directions at once. The area can be completely dead on weekends and then extremely packed on weekdays. It is really a tossup to what you'll run into. I would definitely recommend to friends and family and would easily bump to the next star if the staff wasn't so overwhelmed.

I went back for Happy Hour today and was informed that some things had changed with HH (starting…read moretoday - 1/24). They've removed the fried cauliflower from their HH special, which is disappointing. I can see if it just wouldn't come with fries anymore or if they increased the price a bit, but it's unfortunate they removed them from HH special entirely. Additionally, they said that their HH portions will now be half size. Their menu now offers both small and large portions in general, which isn't terrible, but definitely removes some of the value from the HH menu. Now, all of that is whatever. They still have good beer/wine prices and a good selection, and still have decent HH food prices. The reason that I've reduced my rating so much, though, is that they have now joined the many in applying a 20% "service charge" to all orders. This service charge applies to everything ordered in the Alamo Drafthouse and the Highbinder. This is a huge drawback for me. The 20%, of course, does not go directly to the person/people who served you, but is rather presented as a charge that assists in paying all of the service staff, and additional tip is "appreciated but not required." I tip well in general. I understand if prices need to be raised, as prices for everything have increased. But then change the prices of your menu items to reflect what you need to make in order to run your business and pay your workers. Be transparent. These "service charges" are absurd and it's making me reconsider my Alamo pass and where I spend my money in general. There were other people who were seemingly not going to tip additional at all because the service charge had been added (I'm not sure what they ultimately decided to do), which is a shame for the bartenders. Additionally, although these changes went in effect today, the HH menus had not yet been printed (so i had to verbally verify if certain items were on HH special), and my bartender seemed to struggle to ring things in (through no fault of their own) because there were items/buttons not yet in the register. If you are implementing new practices, you should be prepared for those before you launch them. Despite my disappointment in their new business practices, the service was great as always. None if my grievances are with the workers themselves, but rather with the business. They also have added new menu items (though large majority are not HH special applicable), including additional popcorn flavors, which is cool.

The entire restaurant wished my sister a happy birthday, which was nice. When it came time for the check(after it was finally delivered), suddenly everyone was available to take it and help us. Still, the quality of the dish makes it worth another visit. Next time I'll probably grab a table instead of bar seating to get the full experience.

So I was thrilled when one opened up in Hyattsville, not far from where I live. My partner and I have been there many times over the past few years and have always enjoyed it. But we were flabbergasted by our most recent experience. The food is as good as it ever was, but the value just isn't there. We were in on a Wednesday night and noticed a table sign for a special: two large pies and two appetizers for $60, so we ordered that. We each had one drink as well, and split a dessert. The bill came to over double that amount! We have paid less when eating in fine dining establishments. Why was our bill so high? Two main reasons: first because the upcharge for an additional topping is $4 each. I would expect that for fancy meat or cheese, but we only added red onion slices. Onions are one of the cheapest things in the supermarket, and $8 will buy a lot of onions. But I guess that's on us for not noticing that all additional toppings are the same (high!) price. Also, PP automatically adds a 20% charge in lieu of a tip. I have mixed feelings about that (and about the increases in tip culture in general). Our service was fine but not exceptional. Sadly, we will think hard before returning to PP. There are many other good pizza places out there.
