New spot alert!! I've seen this spot on my timeline a few times. So when I rode by this spot, and saw the sign...I had to stop!! Let's go in, & see what they're hittin on!! . Where I am: @bigfishdmv inside @mixtfoodhall . Location Reviewed: 3809 Rhode Island Ave, Brentwood M.D. . Items Reviewed: STAMP!! Their Cheddar Jalapeno Hush Puppies ($7.50 with cheddar, jalapeno, & comeback sauce). Fluffy, mildly spicy, & cheesy!! LIKE THAT!! Their Loaded Fries ($12 with shrimp, crab meat, bacon, scallions, queso, jalapeno, & comeback sauce). Tasty, but eat these fast!! STAMP!! Their Fish Wings ($12 fried jumbo cod with honey buffalo sauce). Well prepared, & seasoned, a sweet, & spicy buffalo sauce!! STAMP!! Their Small Seafood Trawler ($24 with fried shrimp, grilled trout, a baked jumbo lump crab cake, remoulade, & a cajun slaw). Perfect fried shrimp, a small but lump crab cake, & a spicy slaw!! STAMP!! Ok, time for an honest review. The online ordering option was unavailable, so I drove up to the location to order in person. Thankfully they were taking orders in person. I ordered the Nashville catfish and fries with the garlic habanero sauce and a side of honey buffalo sauce. The garlic habanero sauce was more like a paste, the flavor was good on it though, and it was even better when I added some maple syrup to it for a hint of sweetness (trust me, do it). The sandwich even though it had seasoned breading on the fish, and it was cooked well (didn't have that dirty catfish taste) it felt like something was just missing from the sandwich. I waited about 20-25 minutes for my food, which wasn't bad. I really wanted to love this spot, but it was merely mediocre.

Couldn't believe this wasn't as good as I anticipated. The concept and menu options all sounded great but the delivery and finally the food its self was just basic and flavorless. The loaded fries wasn't loaded at all it had maybe one shrimp that had been cut up into several pieces and thrown into it, while the crab meat that it was supposed to come with instead had one tiny bite size crab cake sitting on top which tasted like the ones from the frozen pack at Costco or actually more bland than those. It had more sauce that ingredients and the fries were just sitting rather than made fresh to order so it was chewy rather than crispy. The po boy tasted like a sub from the carry out but with the most dried up bland shrimp thrown into the sandwich. Lettuce was wilted once again just more sauce than anything. Also had the honey buffalo fish wings , let me tell you nothing about those "wings" screamed honey or buffalo taste it's as if it was battered into some store bought fish fry than once fried it was tossed into some kind of sauce that was supposed to pass as "honey butter" and than put on a plate. I never tasted something so dry and once again hate to say but just lacked in flavor like I couldn't finish it. Finally the slaw although it seemed to want to be something different and was edible I felt it lacked some sort of citrus zing to it. Being as though it was supposed to be Cajun it had no mayo for a slaw which is fine but it's as if it was just tossed in something light but still felt like t was missing something more. Hate that I couldn't enjoy much of anything from this establishment but there are other options I'm sure others would be willing to try that might be better.

For the size of the sandwich, the cost was a bit too much! The location was good. Easy to get to and there is a parking garage.

We tried the bread service as a starter. I think the bread had a soft inside texture but too hard on the exterior. 5/10. We tried two of their bar bites: Sautéed shrimp (5/10) and General Tso Chicken Skewers (7/10). I think the shrimp sauce was bland and the chicken was a fried chicken tender + sauce. We had the Chicken Ceasar salad (8/10) and Braised Short ribs (8/10). The salad was a standard salad and the short ribs were tender. I enjoyed the short ribs with the mashed potatoes and substituted the brussel sprouts with broccoli. I think the broccoli could've been seasoned to improve. We both had two of their $10 specialty cocktails. Both were excellent.

It's super healthy with roasted butternut squash, brussels sprouts, veggies, goat cheese on top of broccoli rice & quinoa with your choice of protein. I have it with both blackened shrimp and chicken before and can't decide my favorite. The General Tso's Cauliflower and Firecracker Shrimp are awesome starters. Following the recommendation of the bartender Will, I decided to switch it up and go with the Short Rib Grilled Cheese. It's a hearty, well seasoned and straight up juicy sandwich. I cannot wait to switch it up again and explore the rest of the menu!

Prepared skin on, and with a side of grilled asparagus and spinach risotto, it was a real treat. My husband has another special - meatballs and pasta with a savory vodka like sauce - and he enjoyed it thoroughly. We split the apple crumble à la mode dessert and it was more than enough for us to enjoy with a cup of coffee. Top notch. Our waiter Ricky was awesome and attentive. Everyone in fact was so nice. However, the food was very salty and not fresh. My husband ordered the steak and was sick for the next day and a half. I ordered the oysters and they were fine, but the oyster Rockefeller was gross. It tasted like spinach artichoke dip on top of empty oyster shells. The Mac and cheese was bland and tasteless. My daughter had the crab dip which was straight up salt in a bowl. She liked the prime rib sandwich but I've had a better one at Arby's.

The restaurant is located in the newer developed part of Hyattsville, and parking was super convenient since there was a garage right next door for only $5. They also offer covered outdoor dining, which was a nice touch. Inside, the space was modern and stylish, though a bit on the smaller side. For the tea party, the restaurant gave our group a dedicated section that was heavily decorated by our coordinator, and it was really nicely done, which made the event feel special that they allowed her to do such. Service was a hit and miss. Our waitress unfortunately forgot to put in our drink order to the bartender, so we waited over 30 minutes before finally flagging down another waiter. Thankfully, he was extremely efficient. He quickly got our drinks out, took our food order, and checked in throughout the meal. Once he stepped in, everything moved much faster. The food was excellent. The hummus was a 10/10, the lamb chops were delicious, and even the sautéed spinach was well seasoned and flavorful. The menu is pretty extensive, so there is definitely something for everyone, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. Overall, nice area, decent service, great food, and affordable prices. And to say it was underwhelming would be an understatement. I mean this experience might have been worse than the season finale of game of thrones. My wife ordered the oxtails and green jollof rice. First off, the rice tasted like wet grass. The oxtail was a sad excuse for oxtail. For context my wife is Caribbean so I've had my share of delicious oxtail, their oxtail tasted like they simply didn't even try. Now let's get to my food. I ordered the simplest thing on the menu the Steak and Frites. I'll give it to them the frites were pretty decent, but that's where my compliments end. I ordered my steak medium like a decent human being. The first steak came out and tasted like what I imagine an old used tire taste like, it was well done by the way. The next steak that came out 20 minutes later although closer to medium was surprisingly worse. It's was extremely rubbery with zero flavor. All together I would not recommend. The fact they sell this sad excuse for food is baffling. Sincerely, A concerned customer
