My wife and I had heard of honcho house for a while and had planned to visit. Today we finally made the decision to try it out. And to say it was underwhelming would be an understatement. I mean this experience might have been worse than the season finale of game of thrones. My wife ordered the oxtails and green jollof rice. First off, the rice tasted like wet grass. The oxtail was a sad excuse for oxtail. For context my wife is Caribbean so I've had my share of delicious oxtail, their oxtail tasted like they simply didn't even try. Now let's get to my food. I ordered the simplest thing on the menu the Steak and Frites. I'll give it to them the frites were pretty decent, but that's where my compliments end. I ordered my steak medium like a decent human being. The first steak came out and tasted like what I imagine an old used tire taste like, it was well done by the way. I was greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne by three smiling professional hostess. It took a little while for my waitress to come to my table, but another waitress was kind enough to not only greet me but get my ordered started as well. The ambiance, the decor and the vibe was very nice. I ordered the wagyu egg rolls for an appetizer, the short rib and risotto for my main and a don Julio margarita. The food was very good. The mac and cheese was a little on the salty side and the drinks are pretty pricey. Overall, I had a great experience and I would definitely come back and try out some different things on the menu. Huncho House was the first stop on my DC food tour. Me and seven of my friends flew to DC for the "DC food experience" we've heard so much about and HH did not disappoint. The ambiance was beautiful. We made reservations and due to the traffic we weren't aware of, we weren't going to make our reservation time. We called the restaurant and asked if we could move our time and they allowed us to. TOP TIER SERVICE and we hadn't even arrived yet. Once we arrived we were escorted to our table. I loved the welcoming champagne that was brought to our table. That was a wonderful touch. Our waitress was so cute, bubbly and very knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered our drinks. I ordered a Espresso Martini and it was delicious. We also ordered the Deviled eggs. I've been to Huncho House a few times and every single time has been impeccable. When you walk in, you're greeted with a glass of champagne. It was a nice, unexpected and very welcomed surprised. The restaurant is dimly lit, elegant and the music tied the experience together. We've always had great servers who were attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. There were a bunch of items that we liked on the menu but the Huncho House sushi roll and the Jerk Wings were the highlights! The Jerk Short Ribs were good but I had more leftovers than anything because we ordered 10,000 appetizers. The short ribs actually tasted better the next day which was a nice surprise. Overall, I'm already planning returning for the third time to try some other menu items as well so I could definitely say this place is worth a visit. Decided to go for Mother's Day. My reservation was for 4pm. It was still the brunch menu, and they were out of a lot of their menu items. I decided on the stuffed strawberry cream cheese French toast, 5/10. sadly disappointed due to only squiggling squirts of cream cheese on the plate and not in the French toast. The price was rather high for fried bread. I was looking forward to their regular menu. The drinks were definitely a 10/10. I am soooo happy I gave this restaurant another chance. I was able dine there with some new friends who got great reservations. Everything was great. Still relatively new to the area and came here for a late dinner with my sister. The service was phenomenal from the very beginning. My meal was delicious and I even tried the oyster appetizer. Before arriving at the restaurant we got a phone call stating the restaurant was temporarily CLOSED and operating down the street at 1123 restaurant. That was a bit odd but we went with it. I reviewed the menu before arriving as well. When we arrived at the restuarant, it was indeed down the street but we found out that Huncho House joined with another restuarant called Solo's Den and they renamed the restaurant 1123. Upon arriving we received a sip of champagne (yes just a sip tasting) complimentary of course. The "new temporary" location was more spacious than the original location which was okay but the table were close together. Where if you got up you have to excuse yourself for touching or being over other customers table. We received the menus and they nothing like menu we saw online. Since Huncho merged with Solo's Den to create 1123 the menu is not Asian African infusion that also comes with a sushi menu. Now the food..we ordered the deviled eggs with fried chicken thighs and hot honey and cheesesteak fusion rolls for the appetizer. My friend she ordered the whole branzino dish and I ordered the Asian steak (that is the name of the dish) medium with mushrooms and garlic mash potatoes for the sides. Unfortunately when my steak was served at the table it was well done. I let the waitress know my steak was not cooked to medium and she took it back to the chef. They did prepare another steak which came out cooked correctly the second time. Since I was not drinking I ordered the Hibiscus Mule which was tasty. The service was okay overall but it was alittle slow. The waitress and staff were slow to fill water glasses and drink orders. We literally saw the bar staff standing around behind the bar talking doing nothing through out our time there. Also the serving staff was moving too fast causing spillage off of plates onto the tables and into drinks. Lastly we asked the staff how long they were going to be in that location temporarily and they stated they didnt know because the other location has HVAC issues. My overall experience was just okay, but if Huncho has indeed merged with Solo's Den to create 1123, why keep the other Huncho house menu on the website because now if you arrived you will be confused and disappointed because customers are not seeing the same menu or prices. read more

Wow! I'm so glad I finally booked the restaurant. I've been a fan of his from Food Network. Had co-workers in town from down south. They appreciated the friendly staff, ambiance, and delicious food. My friend and I chose this restaurant in support of Black History Month because the owners are black! The restaurant was very good but I would have made some small changes to make the experience great. The oysters my friend got were really good. The flavors were spot on. My shrimp was cool I just personally wish it was spicier and the batter crispier. The lobster pasta was very good flavor wise, perfect level of spiciness, I would have just changed my noodles because they were chewy. As far as service, it did take a while to get seated despite us having reservations. They did offer us complimentary champagne during the wait which was nice. The food delivery was a little slow but not terrible. My only real complaint is the seating. Myself and wife dined here for our anniversary dinner, it was her choice, and man this place is nice, always packed, it's best to make reservations in advance + it's black-owned and operated. Booking: First things first, booking a reservation. I booked my reservation about a month in advance through the Huncho House website via Open Table. I highly recommend booking these seats, worth every penny. You get to engage with Chef Tobias, Chef Key and Chef Lady T. Their energy is infectious. It was empowering to see so many women chefs in the kitchen. Decor and Design: The overall ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful. I loved the attention to detail, the cutlery and plate wear are stunning, I ended up ordering some of the costers from the Honeycomb collection from the William and Sonoma site that night. Service: The service was top-tier, we were greeted by the general manager, Diona, who gave us an overview of the Chef's table experience as we enjoyed a complimentary glass of champagne. The wife cleaned her plate of the salmon fried rice and said it was the best fried rice she's had in a very long time! My jerk crab cake was also delicious, I appreciated the different flavor profile vs a traditional crab cake. The broccolini was ok, I wish it was a little spicier. The Mac n cheese was a winner, cheesy and delish. As for the ambiance, nice and intimate space however I do wish the tables/chairs weren't so close to each other. I'm going to start by saying I love the food at Huncho House. I dined here for my birthday earlier this year and had a great experience. I also love the vibes especially the music. However, the service I received last night was completely unacceptable. My friends and I had a reservation for 8:45 and arrived at 8:40. We were told our table was not quite ready yet. We were not seated until about 9:10, which I find to be ridiculous seeing that they charge a $35 per person cancellation fee and would likely penalize us for being late. We got our first appetizer almost right away, which was weird because our next appetizer came (sushi) came 20 mins later and everything else including my SALAD took an additional hour to come out. We all ordered drinks and for the first 30 minutes only one of us had a drink. I hate to bash a black owned business, but I need them to get it together especially since they are expanding the business and are SO expensive. I visited from Houston. Tobias is one of my favorite Food Network stars so it was more than right I paid his restaurant a visit. We went on a Friday night @ 7:30. It was busy but appeared to be manageable. Upon getting seated, we were offer complimentary champagne. We was escorted to our table which was near the kitchen. I love the view of the chefs cooking and preparing the dishes. I thought that concept is unique and entertaining. There is seating available at the kitchen for maybe solo diners. We loved our food. The Brussels Sprouts were perfect. The sweetness was there which I loved. I ordered the lobster rigatoni which was flavorful. I also ordered the Huncho sushi which was packed with flavor and stuffing. However, it was difficult to eat with chopsticks-like it wasn't rolled tightly or overly stuffed. Service was ok. It took a while for us to get our drinks. Our drinks pretty much came out later than expected. Music was a vibe. It was low enough to have conversation at the table. When you walk in the door it's a quaint little place but very welcoming as we walked in. The hostess provided complimentary glasses of rose champagne ( it's truly a taste amount) and then we were seated. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. You can tell Chef Tobias wants his guest to feel as if they are experiencing a fine dining environment and it did feel as such. We ordered the oysters and jerk lollipops as a starter. They both tasted great I loved the candied finish on the chicken skin and the oysters were well seasoned as well. Then for entrees we ordered a few different things I had the crab cakes which I enjoyed ima huge crab cake fanatic and love a good crabby crab cake no fillers thank you ! I was thoroughly impressed I must say. I had the macaroni and lobster mash for sides and they were also solid choices as well. We didn't do a dessert unfortunately but I think we really didn't have time anyways. If I could leave one note for fixing it would be the process of having patrons know their time allotment is running out. We were paying our tab and our table was cleared as we were still seated. i first went to Huncho House when they first opened a couple years ago and had been meaning to go back for a while. Reservations are hard to comeby, but not impossible. Love that they still start you out with a complimentary glass of champagne. It took a while for our waitress to come see us when we first got there because it was busy. She immediately acknowledged that when she got to us and apologized profusely and sent us shots to make up for it. She set the tone for customer service from the beginning. She also had us laughing the entire night. She had great energy, was super accommodating, and contributed to us having a great evening. She is truly an elite employee. In fact, next time I go back, I want to sit in her section again. We started out by getting the California roll, which was good. Be advised that Huncho House does not do substitutions. The spicy lobster rigatoni and the snow crab Asian garlic noodles were the perfect level of spice for me. I will say though, not everyone may enjoy them if they do not like spicy foods. The Jerk crab cakes are definitely the star of the show. Of course all crab and no filler, flavorful, soft, and just a perfectly well made crab cake. And the jerk flavor isn't overpowering. Broccolini was good too. It is also spicy. The dessert we got was the cheesecake, which was just your classic cheesecake with caramel and bananas. It took some time for the crab cakes to comeout, so our waitress Keila sent my friend a cocktail since it took a while. Keep in mind, we didn't complain about anything but she recognized the issue and addressed it swiftly with the skill of customer service that so many do not have. Thursday night, I had the honor of visiting Huncho House for the first time in Hyattsville, Maryland. Originally, my reservation was at their other location, 1123, but I received a call informing me of maintenance issues and was asked to relocate to Huncho House, which I had no problem with. I was very impressed with how quickly they contacted me and ensured that my accommodation was still secured. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, my experience didn't quite align with the level of hospitality they provided. My reservation was at 7 PM, and I arrived right on time. However, my guests were delayed, leaving me alone at the table for over 30 minutes. Thankfully, I was taken care of by the server, Belinda, and the lead manager, Melissa, who made sure I was comfortable throughout the wait. Additionally, my longtime friend Tiana, who works as a sous chef in the kitchen, was part of the team that made my visit special. Between the three of them, I felt well looked after and more than comfortable, even dining alone at a table for four. The atmosphere of the restaurant is small, quaint, and cozy. My only minor issue was with the music, as there seemed to be some buffering problems. Otherwise, the restaurant's aesthetic was pleasing. I'm also familiar with executive owner and pioneering chef Tobias, who made an appearance after recovering from a recent health scare. It was great to see him back in action. I had already started with my appetizer, Rockefeller wh oysters, which were delicious, and simply had water while waiting. Belinda treated me like I was a VIP--her knowledge of the menu was impressive, and she described each dish thoroughly. Her professionalism was top-notch, and she made the whole experience feel like a five-star fine dining event. The hospitality from the host, manager, and kitchen team made this evening a perfect start to my new year. For my entrée, I had the scallops with risotto, which was absolutely delicious--hands down flavorful and cooked to perfection. We came here without a reservation yesterday evening after our original restaurant plans fell through. I was thrilled that Huncho House could accommodate us last minute (literally, we called and they told us to come in even though their reservation waitlist is usually at least a month!) as one of my friends flew into town for a visit. Our server, Ebony, was VERY sweet! She helped us make informed decisions about our food and drinks, checked in on us often, and really made our experience a good one! The restaurant, though surprisingly small, boasts beautiful decor that gives off cute jungle paradise vibes. The flower buds on the ceiling, gorilla light fixtures, and stunning wallpaper create a unique atmosphere. Even the seats are comfy and not your typical restaurant chairs. They played a lot of 00s R&B music, which I LOVED. My friends and I were definitely singing along during our meal! I chose the Blue Moon cocktail, which was pretty strong but also sweet. They definitely weren't stingy with the liquor, and the coconut taste complemented the drink beautifully--it looked gorgeous too! For appetizers, I ordered the chargrilled oysters, and they were DELICIOUS! Cooked perfectly, I immediately tore them DOWN! My friend ordered the lollipops, which she said were also delicious. Both dishes were perfect for sharing. For the entrée, I ordered the jerk short ribs with a side of crab mac. DELICIOUS, fall OFF the bone, finger-licking GOOD! You definitely won't regret this choice. I don't usually eat beef, but BABY, do IT! The taste was amazing, and the gravy was excellent. The crab mac side was more than enough to share--I barely made a dent in it. Literally, it was SO much to eat. So, so tasty. For dessert, I ordered the vanilla bread pudding. However, I wouldn't recommend the short rib, AT ALL. It was so dry and lacked flavor, even in sauce. I sent it back and got the Bronzino which also wasn't good. It was way too much arugula on top and needed sauce to bring it together. I order the s'more old fashion and it took 45 minutes for it to come. I would of rather had the original. When it came it was watered down because the ice cube had melted to half of its original size. My friend had the filet mignon and asked for it medium and it came back well done. So we had to wait another 30 minutes for her meal to be cooked again. As great as our waiter was, the manager was micromanaging our waiter and was ruining our experience even more. We had watched the manger have an attitude with our waitress when she was doing an amazing job. When the manger came over, she went behind our waitress to fix things that weren't an issue and made the already unsettling situation, worse. We were not compensated for any of our terrible experience. All and all, we left disappointed and a ruined celebration. read more

Huncho House is simply great. The food is innovative and comforting, the decor and service are welcoming, and the cocktails are creative. I have dined at HH several times over this year, and each time I left singing HH's praises. Each visit started the same way, upon walking through the door you are greeted and offered a taste of Champagne style sparkling wine. Is the Champagne Dom Perignon Brut? No. It is chilled Freixenet Ice Rosé and it is gratis, so no complaints. The ambiance is candlelight dark with the brightest lights coming from the open kitchen. The bar is tiny, really just for service as opposed to sitting. The space is small but in a cozy way. Naysayers will lament the use of the fake flower/plant walls and ceiling decorations. The service, in my experience has been unfailingly great with a wonderful pacing of dishes from the kitchen. The service charge, 20%, is automatically added to the total bill pretax total, but it may shortchange the staff because they treat guest at levels worthy of 25% plus! The food! The creative dishes seem to be a fusion of Asian, Italian, and African/African Diaspora. Reading the Chef-Owner's background and training, that fusion makes sense. I have hap the crab fried rice with the most succulent salmon on top. The dish is fresh, Asian-African in influences. Like a great Asian seafood fried rice mixed with Nigerian celebratory fried rice. The Salmon is soy glazed and grilled perfectly. The seared scallops over a creamy risotto (I believe it is a risotto or risotto style dish) is another favorite. The scallops are meaty and cooked perfectly every time. I also love the seafood noodle dish again with contributions from Africa, Asia, and Europe. The whole branzino is excellent, if a bit messy to eat, but worth it. I highly recommend ordering the roasted Brussels sprouts. Tossed in butter and hoisin sauce, the roasted, I order them as an appetizer and as a side. The other great sides are the lobster macaroni and cheese and the creamy whipped potatoes. Unfortunately, I have never tried the desserts. I am usually too stuffed. I spend my sugar allowance on the crafted cocktails. The "Date Night" cocktail made with D'USSÉ or Hennessy cognac, is a great twist on the classic Side Car cocktail. The Side Car will be the next Old Fashion, namely an old classic gaining favor with a new generation. I also tried the s'mores Old Fashion. It tasted like a s'mores but with liquor. They even garnished it with a toasted marshmallow lit aflame by a torch and delivered to the table all toasty, warm, and melty. Five stars for the gem of a restaurant in Prince George's. Right across the street from the classic PG Plaza mall. I would have never imagined that the county would get such an establishment in the working class areas. It happened and Chef Tobias Dorzon made it happen. My one small, but not deal breaker, quibble are the drink prices. At $22 plus tax and automatic gratuity, the cocktails for one is over $25. I understand inflation, but that is steep. Further, the cocktail menu does not list prices. The prices are whatever they charge, but just disclose them clearly and allow the drinker to make the choice. $22 seems on the very high end of the scale. Just know what to expect and make informed choices. Are they worth it? Close, but the prices may be $5 to $7 more than I would be comfortable paying. But I am frugal, so do what is best for your budget. Five stars, easy. read more

The first phrase that came out my mouth when I entered Huncho House was "this is such a cute place!" Huncho House gives date night vibes. It is nicely decorated with limited spacing, naturally creating a very intimate setting. When we arrived we were greeted by the hostess, who confirmed our reservation and then offered us their complimentary champagne. Upon seating us, we were welcomed and greeted by three waiters that were very attentive to our table. For our appetizer, we ordered the Wagyu cheesesteak eggrolls, which were flavorful, however, the eggrolls were lacking a crispiness and the additional gusto that we needed to be amazed by this dish. For our entree, we had the jerk short ribs with the crab Mac and cheese as a side, which were both sizable proportions. The short ribs didn't necessarily give jerk to me, however, it was still an enjoyable dish. The risotto rice that came with the short ribs was uniquely flavored that I feel required an acquired taste. The crab Mac and cheese was very palatable. My fork just kept gravating to that cheesy goodness. Overall, we appreciated the robust customer service and thoroughly appreciated the experience here. I came to visit a couple of friends in the DMV area and found this place highly recommended on TikTok so we had to give it a try! We made reservations online a couple of days in advance and had to settle for a later time because it was almost booked up (so book in advance!). We found parking on the street but I believe there may have been a parking garage as well. When we came in, we were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne (which was tasty!) and taken to our seats. The establishment itself is a bit small so I'm not sure if it's ideal for large groups or more than about 6-8 people. We were also pretty close to the table next to us. We had a couple of waiters with our main one being Anaya and they were all great! Everyone was pretty knowledgeable, gave recommendations, checked on us frequently and had great customer service , which I greatly appreciate! For our meal, we started with the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls. They were good, however I expected it to be more "solid" (not sure the right word to use). It was pretty saucy and kind of runny so it didn't quite give egg roll to me and it could've been a little more crispy but it was still good. For our entree we did the short ribs and a side of the seafood Mac. Both were excellent to me! The ribs were tender and fell off the bone and the risotto that it sat on top of was delicious! Very well seasoned! The Mac and cheese was just how I like it, creamy, cheesy, well baked and well seasoned. I would definitely come back to try more items on the menu! read more

Overall great ambiance but this location is kinda small so make sure you book a reservation ahead. I ordered the fried snapper and it was tasty and flavorful. I loved the sauce that comes with it. Pack your pockets though because it will cost you an arm and a leg. read more

My partner surprised me with birthday reservations here. She knew I had been wanting to try HH. The only negatives were use having to wait 15-20 mins although we had reservations and not knowing the parking situation. Note: Park in the Safeway parking garage so you receive 2 hours free parking. Food: I read reviews saying the food was cold. I'm not sure what when this was, but our food was piping hot. AMAZING! Everything was perfectly seasoned and hot. We ordered the jerk short rib, Asian salmon & crab fried rice, and the crab mac and cheese. The short rib didn't give jerk, more like spiced. It had some heat but I wouldn't say jerk. The short rib was TENDER. I didn't try the risotto because I don't like peas but my lady said it was surprisingly good. She's not much of a curry lover but stated it gave the dish a unique flavor. The salmon and crab fried rice were chefs kiss. The mac and cheese...perfectly cheesy. We were halfway through the meal and the dish was still steaming. Maybe a little more crabmeat could be added, but we outside of that, I have no complaints. SN: The table next to us ordered the charbroiled oysters and whole red snapper; which both looked amazing! I'll definitely try the oysters the next time we come. Only because I don't like fish with bones, the snapper won't be on my hit list. Drinks: Tried the NYE special but I can't remember the name. Food was good; however out of the 5 items I wanted only 1 was avail. We made reservations but upon arrival signs on door said temporary closed and to go to sister location (across street). Sister location had a cool vibe but def not what my taste buds wanted. We never received any notification of this change so left a bad note about place. The sister location honored reservation BUT still waited about an hour for seats. Def not what was expected!!!! The front desk did offer 1st drink on house but other than that I left not impressed. As out of towners, this place was high on list of places up try and I left unenthused. I worked try again or actually be able to go here but I'm not in area enough to have this on my must do list. After months of trying we finally secured a reservation at the Huncho House for my birthday! This restaurant is perfect for special occasions. It is a smaller venue which adds to the intimate feeling. The staff are incredible from start to finish. We were greeted with warm smiles and offered a champagne tasting before being taken to our table. We wanted to order everything on the menu, but settled for a selection of a few items. We had the wagyu cheesesteak egg rolls, the jerk short rib, the cilantro lime lamb, the crab mac and cheese, and the mashed potatoes. I also ordered a cocktail (I believe the name of the drink was hear me clearly). Everything was 10/10! The lamb was a definite favorite. We also loved the egg rolls so much that we ordered some to go! The jerk short rib fell off the bone and the sides were delightful. I will say, the jerk short rib did not really taste like jerk seasoning, but nonetheless it was the best short rib I've ever had! We can't wait to come back and bring some friends with us!
