Went to Hiro Buffet in Aurora for dinner the past Saturday. Knowing weekends and the New Year holiday would draw crowds, arrived around 4 PM. Parking was nearly full even that early. The terrace in front of the restaurant was cordoned off with iron fence for renovations. Honestly, never saw anyone sitting there since the place opened, wonder whether they're repurposing it. Perhaps to deter dine and dash customers or to lighten the servers' workload, customers needed to pay first at Hiro. After the meal, servers would bring the receipt back for guests to add tips. This was actually quite convenient, eliminating the need to wait for a server to settle the bills. Compared to last visit, the plush toy shop at the entrance had expanded, offering more plush toys and even adding a claw machine. Whether it's psychological or simply because it's been awhile since last visit, the buffet stations seemed brighter, cleaner, and more organized than before. Even the floors and walls appeared slightly different. Most dishes remained similar to before, offering a wide selection primarily of Chinese and Japanese cuisine. However, several new items have been added, such as fried frog legs, BBQ ribs, peanut candy, and ice cream bars. The Mongolian BBQ station was located on the corner away from the buffet stations and most dining areas, so these areas were mostly free of the BBQ smoke and smell. Notably, the sashimi on the nigiri sushi here was exceptionally large, appearing fresh and having a satisfying texture. The selection of sushi rolls was extensive, with most being the specialty varieties. The buffet stations were replenished promptly and items were freshly prepared and hot. Staff constantly monitored the buffet stations, using earpiece to notify the kitchen for replenishment, very efficient indeed. Prices were $21.99 for dinner Monday through Thursday, $22.99 for Friday night and all day on weekends, and $14.99 for lunch Monday through Friday. Considering the variety and quality of the food, it's a great value and very affordable.

It's a buffet folks. And a darn good one too. The amazing selection of different Chinese and Japanese food is great. The staff hustlers to keep the place clean and dishes well stocked. I don't like their seaweed salad though. Most everything else is fabulous.

Every type of Sushi i could find.

The food is great and the service is great. I had tons of sushi and my friend had chicken and mushrooms and rice. I would definitely come here again if Im around.

The food was less than mediocre. The ambiance left alot to be desired. It desperately needs a face lift. The service is good. She did the best she could. Would definitely not be returning ever!

Ask the Community - Hiro Japanese Buffet

Are there still crab legs on the dinner buffet?

Yes. They ask that people limit their servings due to increased costs.

What is available for the lunch buffet?

It is easier to answer what is NOT AVAILABLE during lunch buffet: Crab legs, oysters, virtually all fish nigiri (they usually have only tomago, seaweed, imitation crab, and daikon for lunch), all sashimi, and a selection of rolls.

I did notice the fake ramen displays ( there's gotta be a name for this art) while passing by. Finally made a trip. First impression was good. The restaurant had the menu on the table with glass top on it. Also got another smaller one and a piece of paper with pencils on the side. He took the drink order and also instructioned us to mark on the paper on what we wanted and when were were ready, press the buzzer. There were many choices and had a hard time choosing what we wanted. I wanted ramen for sure and also wanted some appetizer but opted for a dragon roll. My black garlic tonkotsu ramen was very rich cloudy broth, perfect to warm up, and it was delicious. Just the right amount of noodles and plenty of chatsu to go with. I have just scrached the surface as I write this review. There are so many options and choices that I failed to comprehend. I wish our waiter suggested some alternate options which we would have appreciated like the combo meal and also happy hour drink options. Will be back to full fill the ramen quest!

On the bright side, the service was quick, which I really appreciated. I also thought the buzzer system was a very unique touch--it made it easy to get help whenever we needed it without having to flag someone down. The restaurant is located in a shopping center, which makes it convenient if you're already in the area. The vibe was cool and a lot of people where there, meaning that they have a good following

The sushi is 4 stars in my opinion--good, but not great. The nigiri and specialty rolls were solid, and I especially liked the spicy tuna. It has a bright color and is on the sweeter side, which I enjoyed. The restaurant has plenty of seating, and the service was decent. Overall, I would definitely come back for the galbi. Happy eating.

The sushi is pretty tasty, and there's a good variety of rolls to choose from, which makes the all-you-can-eat option especially appealing if you're someone who likes trying a little bit of everything. For the price, you can definitely get your money's worth if you come hungry. My biggest issue, though, is the wait time between ordering and actually getting your sushi. It feels like you wait quite a while for your rolls to come out, and that can make the all-you-can-eat experience feel a little bit like you're getting scammed. By the time you finish your first order and finally get your second round of rolls, you can already have been sitting there for an hour. Since you're paying for all-you-can-eat, you obviously want to be able to order and enjoy multiple rounds without spending most of your meal waiting for the food to arrive. I think having more servers or more staff in general would really help speed up the process and make the experience much better. The atmosphere itself is pretty much what you'd expect from a typical sushi restaurant. It's casual and has a nice enough vibe, but the restaurant is usually pretty packed, so it can get fairly noisy. I personally don't mind a busy restaurant, but if you're looking for somewhere quiet and intimate, this probably isn't the place for that. The busyness does show that the restaurant is popular, though, and I can understand why people keep coming back. One thing I do really like is that you get free ice cream at the end of your meal. It's a small detail, but it's a nice way to finish everything off, especially after eating a ton of sushi. Overall, I'd definitely come back because I love sushi and I think the food and price are worth it. I just hope they can improve the service speed because the long waits between orders are really the only thing keeping this from being a five-star experience for me.

Although our tickets indicated a 7:00 PM start, we didn't realize the full event began at 5:00 PM and arrived late. Despite our tardiness, the owners were incredibly accommodating. Not only did they help us get our food quickly, but since the venue was full, they appeared to give up their own management seats right next to the stage so we could sit. As someone with a disability, this gesture was a huge help and deeply appreciated. Their kindness and discretion--never making us feel like a burden--have earned them a loyal patron for life. The food was excellent. We enjoyed okonomiyaki, sushi, onigiri, yakisoba, kaki furai, oden, and ajifurai. Every dish was cooked to perfection with flavors that truly stood out; the chef is clearly outstanding. As for the entertainment, Katsura Sunshine was wonderful and friendly. His storytelling had us in stitches--I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. His apprentices also did an awesome job with their performances. It was truly a fantastic event, and I sincerely hope he returns soon!

The restaurant it self was larger then it looks from the outside with a nice sushi bar and a number of tables and booths. They were busy but we were seated a few minutes after arriving. My wife usually orders the Chirashi and this was one of the better ones she's had in the area. Generous cuts of fish which were melt in your mouth fresh! I ordered a number of nigiri which had the perfect ratio of fish to rice. The Hamachi, Saba, and Unagi were my favorite but the Amaebi was also solid. We added to our meal with an order of Agadashi which is deep fried tofu in a savory broth and a geso age or deep fried squid legs, both were great but I'd go back for the agedashi again! Service was fantastic checking on us frequently and the food was served quickly. We enjoyed our visit very much and plan to return to try other items!

When it arrived my friend commented that she couldn't even see the noodles under the tofu. However, another table ordered drunken noodles as well and it seemed that that customer's entree took up at least most of his plate, so it seems that portion sizes may be inconsistent here. I ended up still being hungry afterwards, so I ordered a tom yum soup, which both I and my friend thought was 13.99 based on how the menu is laid out (pictured of menu attached)... we were surprised when at the end it was 17.99. When I brought up my concerns, the owner (?) pointed to the price at the bottom of the page under the ramen. I said, oh but I tried to order the chasu pork option from the bottom pricing list, and she said "no that option is just for ramen." My other friend at the table noted some inconsistencies with menu pricing from the online menu accessed through the QR code, and the physical menu. I'm a bit appalled it was $45 just for my dinner. (Gratuity was automatically added to the check.) I've never had to order two entrees at a restaurant before just because there wasn't enough food. The ramen dishes and even the pad thai were decently sized, so I have to assume I just got unlucky with my choice.
