Lunch Review! The food selection was amazing for the $14 we paid. My personal favorites were: the honey wings (they tasted like Korean Fried Chicken Wings), the salmon sushi (not to be confused with Sashimi which is dinner only ), the green beans, egg drop soup (it tasted like real egg), and their cooked sushi selection (you can ask the sushi chefs for eel sauce). Personally (emphasis on personal), I did not experience any "unfresh" foods nor do I foresee any hints of food poisoning. However, you should take these reviews into account because who knows what happens day to day! Just come in with an open mind and experience it for yourself. Large selection of Chinese food, sushi, seafood, the crab legs do tend to attract more people to wait there. There are a few stations, they definitely put food out fast when it's needed. Not sure how clean their oil is for fried food at times. Sushi is just like any Chinese owned places, they all taste very similar and the different rolls are similar as well; so if you are a sushi lover, don't go to those extra fancy Japanese joints (most likely owned by Chinese people), go to this place for sushi. My wife and I were craving for Japanese food so we decided to check out Hiro Japanese Buffet. As soon as we walked in, we noticed that the atmosphere was really nice. Very nice ambiance and very clean. The staff are not very friendly and not welcoming , but they were NOT rude either. Our waiter was very tentative and made sure our drinks were always full and our table was cleaned out. Big thumbs up for that. So now, let's talk about their food items. As soon as we walked to the buffet bar, we noticed that 3/4 of their food items are "Chinese" food items. This place is supposed to be a Japanese buffet. They have a lot of sushi rolls selection but all basic sushi rolls. Nothing fancy. The only Japanese food items we noticed was vegetable tempura, miso soup and their sushi rolls. We were so disappointed. This is false advertising! As far as their Chinese food items, they were all very bland. NO JOKE! The chow mein noodles was very bland, fried rice was bland and I noticed that the orange chicken was so old looking and very soggy. No one was touching the orange chicken cuz it looks like it was left overs from the night before. My wife and I were so dissatisfied with the food selection and quality of the food. It is just like any other buffet. They have a good variety of Japanese food. I would say that the girl who sat us seemed to hate her job and as we sat, all the people working were just over in a corner talking. We did have a friendly waitress, though. And they were good about refilling our drinks and picking up the used dishes. They must've been ripped off a few times because there are more than a couple signs talking about how your picture will be posted if you don't pay and that cameras are watching you. I'm not sure I'd call Hiro strictly a Japanese restaurant. While they did have a large selection of Japanese dishes, namely over a dozen sushi rolls, they had a good amount of Chinese and American selections as well. I came for lunch on a Monday. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet is $9.99 on weekdays. This is an absolutely freaking fantastic deal especially considering that a single 8 piece sushi roll alone is around that price at most restaurants. I'm not going to lie - I definitely ate a lot. I tried five different types of sushi, my favorite of which had eel, green bean pieces (just trust me) and a spicy aioli. They also had fried sushi, which I had never tried before yet turned out to be delicious. It had crab, seaweed, and cream cheese and was lightly breaded. Just try it! I also tried their chicken gyoza, pork dumplings, lychees, fried banana, mushroom chicken, teriyaki chicken skewers, roast chicken, and sesame balls with red bean filling. They have an array of tasty desserts as well, including individual ice cream cups (I had green tea) and these flaky heart-shaped cookies that seem to be customary at most Asian buffets. In addition to the good taste, I thought that the overall food quality was top-notch at Hiro. Everything seemed fresh and relatively new, as opposed to some buffets where the food is wilted and looks as though it's been sitting on the warmer for a couple of hours. The fried items weren't greasy at all. The sushi tasted great. I will definitely be back. The sign out front said that prices go up to $17 for weekend meals, but considering the good experience I had and variety of the food, that would be well worth it. I reluctantly go there because it is closest Chinese buffet restaurant to my house. The food was okay. But the selections were poor when compared to other Chinese buffet restaurants I have visited. I have driven almost an hour to King Buffet in Wadsworth just to get better selection than Hiro. Their so-called crag leg included is a joke. Often there were no crab legs. And when they did bring out the crab legs, there were not even enough for two people. And I don't mean pile up the crab legs in to a plate. Let me start by saying that Asian Buffets are my jam so I know what the norm is and my normal expectations are lowered when it comes to Asian buffets. The food was on par with most Asian buffets and it really hit the spot. We went for crab ragoons and they were decent! I also enjoyed egg drop soup, a little bite of each entree, and noodles (of course). The bathrooms were clean for the most part and well kept which I can appreciate. The tables were also clean and for the most part there was really no area where I question the cleanliness of the room. I gave it four stars instead of five because they 1) don't have pizza. Every Asian buffet has pizza. 2) No soft serve- but they do have packaged ice cream so I guess it is okay. I would absolutely go back especially since the week lunch is only $9.99 it is a great deal! Yes, it's as gross as everybody says it is. What did you really expect? It's a cheap Cinese buffet. Places like this have been fueling jokes for decades. I would think by now, that anybody looking up reviews for a Chinese buffet is doing so only for amusement purposes. C'mon, you know what to expect from a place like this. It's not going to be good. Most everything I tried was either overly salty, or completely tasteless. No in between. My two kids kept trying bites of things and then they would leave it on their plate and say that they didn't like it. They went through the entire buffet and almost everything turned out the same with them. If my kids don't like it, then it's pretty gross. The sushi was lesser quality than grocery store sushi and the guy making it acted like you insulted him every time you took a piece. Why the attitude? Do you expect everybody to tip for that nasty B grade fish that you throw out there? Please. If you're looking for quality food, obviously, you will need to look elsewhere. If you're looking for a cheap, tasteless meal, that will make you fat, then here is your place. We came with a large party, or I would've never tried this place. Basically, we were brought here against our will. LOL. We obviously avoided the pan of warm clams that looked like it had been sitting there for six or seven days. One person in our party got bad diarrhea from something they ate, but he was the only one out of 20 or 25 of us that ate there that actually got sick, so that's a good thing I guess. We had three service employees dedicated just to our party, and they took very good care of us. The dishes never stacked up in our drinks were filled promptly. Obviously, they have a giant parking lot so parking is no problem. (You gotta have room for all those Ram trucks). I couldn't imagine ever in my life returning here to eat unless we have another giant party to go to, and the orchestrator of such said party decided it would be a good idea to torture everybody with this nasty food. I discovered Hiro when a Chinese friend took us there. Now, if you've only ever been to a standard Chinese buffet, this is going to blow your mind like it did mine! The sushi is ok, but let's assume you're not going there for that anyway. The hot chinese food is as good as you'll find anywhere. It's definitely American-ized but if you like what we Americans consider "Chinese food" then you'll like it. But the real differentiator for Hiro was the hot pot section. I had never experienced this before and if you're looking for authentic, I don't think it gets more than this. The number of different options for everything from your broth to what you put into the soup to what kinds of sauces there are - it was just overwhelming. Having someone who speaks Chinese with us was very helpful because I might not have figured everything out otherwise. Lastly, I should warn people to avoid this and other Chinese buffets if you're not a fan of seafood in all its glory. They had your typical Asian American buffet dishes, but also had a variety of seafood (sushi, raw seafood) which I couldn't wait to try. However, I was really disappointed in the quality. For mass produced asian buffets, my expectations are normally set a little lower and I still ended up disappointed. Most everything I had seemed cold. All the raw seafood I had was room temperature and warm, which wasn't great to the tastebuds and made me a little worried overall. Wish they would at least have put the seafood out on a bed of ice. There were a few times I tried to get the cooked and raw seafood 'fresh' as they brought them out, and it still wasn't the best I've had. Service: friendly and quick. they had quite a few staff members so it was easy to flag people down. The reason is because it's hard to have fresh food out all of the time as well as maintaining quality control of all the dishes. Hiro is a refreshing change to this scenario. I have only been here on the weekends and it's about $19 per person but I find it reasonable if my goal is to chomp down on some snow crab legs. Sometimes you go to those Vietnamese Cajun places it'll cost you $10 just to get one little cluster of them. Heck bring your own Cajun seasonings and bags if you really want to eat one out of a bag. You can get some Korean style kalbi grilled at the Mongolian grill station and some sushi or sashimi bites at the sushi station. I haven't had a bad experience here and the service was decent. Make sure you ask for the crab claw cracker tool from the server so you don't hurt your hands. They don't offer it to you proactively.... I've eaten from the street vendors in Asia so this doesn't bother me but the cleanliness could be better. And watch out when you head to the bathroom it's slick as hell and make sure you don't fall. All in all it's a good deal with as "fresh" as you can get seafood in a land locked state.... I mean... considering where we live... this is pretty good considering the price.... and I haven't gotten sick yet so that's a plus! read more

19.99 a person, it's not even Japanese. It's Chinese! Chinese buffets have sushi..that doesn't make it Japanese. Service was great, very nice people and they refilled our drinks a lot. The owners? Oh boy, would I have a word or two for you. DO BETTER. The food is bad...we couldn't help but laugh at the table at how bad it was and if it wasn't for the service, we would have dined and ditched. 50$ for what we had is a total rip off. The only good thing were those beef riblet things at the "hibachi" grill. If we wouldn't have had a shot of vodka before coming in to eat, I think we would have been way more upset but we just laughed it off as a fail. I wanted to try Hiro for so long since we moved here and what a BUMMER. Last time I will eat here. Arrived 15 minutes after they opened, on Saturday. Weekend prices are $22.99 per person, A lot of the food tasted like it was left over from the night before and microwaved too long. There were no crab legs while we were there. May have been when they first opened (15 min prior) and not replenished. The sushi was flavorless. There signs everywhere telling customers to not waste food and how much the food cost the restaurant. It is very hard to pay $23 a person, and receive cold, stale and mushy food and not waste it. Still 3 STARS in my books... Hubs was starving and he REALLY wanted Buffet. *SIGH* So to this Hiro Japanese Buffet we went. That recent visit was on Saturday March 22nd 2014. When we arrived at this establishment, there was NO WAIT at all. That is good in my books. Time was about 18:30hrs ish. We came in perhaps before the DINNER RUSH or perhaps, the "Limelight" of this establishment went down south from other patrons what nots. We were given the Booth Seats, in which Hubs was hoping for that evening. As usual Hubs opt to have the Fountain Drink ($1.89), I think it was Root Beer of some kind. I opt to have water as part of my beverages. The Buffet, is all the same, with HOT dishes and COLD dishes and the norm sushi items. This time around, I managed to get and to eat the COLD CRAB LEGS. Nothing fancy, nothing stellar about those COLD CRAB LEGS. For that evening, they also have the SMALL CRABs, in which they just FRIED with Salt and Pepper, edible and doable, since I like to eat Crabs. Too bad, it was NOT Soft Shell Crabs but the norm "small" crabs. So beware of the shells and chew thoroughly if you are into those. Once again, the "Fried-Rice" are either over-cooked or gone bad. NOTE to SELF : Next time DO NOT take the Fried Rice. Hubs managed to get the Fried Udon Noodles. He said the food he choose that evening was A-OK. This time around, the Desserts are WAY better tasting. That was what Hubs said. I cannot deny, the Ice-Cream in the white containers, either they melted and re-freeze back, so it DOES NOT look appetizing to eat, the one I choose anyway was the Chocolate Chip Ice Cream tasted "yucky" too. *DOUBLE SIGH* I like Hubs option of Strawberry Ice Cream though. Our Main server, his name is Riki. Hubs indeed gave Riki considerable amount of Tips at the end of our dinner. Total cost of our Buffet with Tips and Tax that evening was $40.
