Himalayan Kitchen in Somerville, MA, is so much more than just a restaurant--it's a place where community, hospitality, and delicious food come together to create an unforgettable experience. From the moment you step inside, the warm, down-to-earth atmosphere makes you feel like you're dining with family. The service is top-notch, with a genuine sense of care and attentiveness that makes every visit special. But what truly elevates this place is the incredible presence of its owner, Jay. Jay is the kind of restaurateur you rarely come across these days. He doesn't just run the restaurant--he lives and breathes its mission of making people feel welcome. Not only does he take the time to visit every table, getting to know his customers on a personal level, but he's also a staple in the neighborhood. During our visit, we saw him frequently step outside to greet local partners and passersby, embodying the restaurant's deep ties to the community. And when the kitchen gets busy with online orders, he and his staff step up, personally delivering food directly to customers' cars--an extraordinary touch of service you rarely see. What's more, Himalayan Kitchen is truly a family affair. Jay's wife is the head chef, and you can taste the pride and passion she puts into every dish. Every bite reflects her care, skill, and love for authentic Himalayan cuisine. For anyone who loves food with a kick, the spicy chicken momo is an absolute must-try--bursting with flavor and perfectly crafted for those who enjoy bold, spicy dishes. Jay summed up his approach beautifully when he said, "You have one shot in the restaurant business to make a lasting impression on your customers--usually when people come in, if they don't like it, they'll never come back. So, I try to take the time to pair our crafted food with a comfortable atmosphere to get people coming back." He even encouraged us to bring our toddlers next time, reminding us that Himalayan Kitchen is truly a family-friendly place where everyone can feel at home. If you're looking for not just an incredible meal but a heartwarming experience that feels like being part of a community, Himalayan Kitchen is the place to go. We can't wait to return! read more

Savor Flavorful Nepali and Indian Dishes at Himalayan Kitchen, Somerville My mouth is literally watering writing this review. Nestled in the heart of Somerville at 40 Bow St, Himalayan Kitchen is a small, unassuming restaurant that delivers big on flavor and warmth. Specializing in Nepali-inspired Indian cuisine, this cozy spot has quickly become one of my favorite go-to places for a delicious and satisfying meal. The food is simply phenomenal. I started with the vegetable steamed momos--dumplings that were perfectly tender and bursting with flavor. While they were a bit on the salty side, the taste was so delightful that I didn't mind at all. The Saag Paneer was rich and creamy, the Daal Tadka was comfort in a bowl, and the Bhindi (okra) was cooked to perfection. Each dish was a testament to the authentic and expertly balanced flavors that define Nepali and Indian cuisine. But what really sets Himalayan Kitchen apart is the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by the owners, Jay and his wife. Their hospitality makes you feel like you're dining in their home, not just at a restaurant. Despite the casual setting--plastic plates paired with real cutlery--the experience is nothing short of amazing. It's the kind of place where the food and the people make you want to return again and again. If you're looking for a place with incredible food and heartfelt service, Himalayan Kitchen is a must-visit. It's a hidden gem that offers a true taste of Nepali-Indian cuisine, and I can't recommend it highly enough. read more

Incredible food off the beaten path. I cannot say enough good things about this place--everything from the food, to the service, to the owner behind the counter (who checked in with us multiple times) was absolutely incredible. SO many options. I went a few months ago and had the matar paneer, and I'm still thinking about how good it was. The mango lassi was also delicious. I can't eat gluten (celiac), and I asked the cashier who confirmed with the kitchen that my choice was GF. Very fair prices and HUGE portions. Pay cash and save 7%! It's so important to support local businesses, especially with the construction going on in Union Square. If you're looking for a local business to support for a casual dinner or takeout, definitely try Himalayan Kitchen. read more

First place my boyfriend and I ate after moving to Union Square and we were so impressed. After ordering online, the food was ready in 15 minutes and the owner handed us our food and said "Welcome to the neighborhood". It made for such a pleasant customer experience. We ordered the vegetable mo mo, which were moist and flavorful. I ordered the chana masala, and I liked how there were plenty of chickpeas and not drowned by the sauce. My boyfriend ordered the chicken tikka masala, and it wasn't overly spicy, which was a plus. We also ordered the tandoori roti, and on its own it seemed a little dry and tough, but when used to scoop up either the chana masala or chicken tikka, it was delicious. read more

Wandered into here after a fun night at the bow markets. This place had an unassuming front but oh good lord did they deliver. The owner greeted us, and rearranged tables right away for us. Bragged about his Momo's he had there and how they would stand against any others - and that they did. Amazing. Perfect. We got the momoms, kebab, naan and some aloo paratha and when the first paratha wasn't up to their par they gave us a second serving without us saying a word. Highly recommend and I will be back asap!! read more

Himalayan Kitchen is a fun spot to explore different flavors. Their menu is a rollercoaster ride through Nepal and India. The samosas are crispy and packed with flavor, and the curries are rich and satisfying. I've even tried their chicken tikka pizza, which was a surprising hit. The only downside is that the service can be inconsistent. Sometimes it's great, other times, not so much. But the food usually makes up for it. If you're up for a culinary adventure, give Himalayan Kitchen a shot. read more

TLDR: Had Nepali Thali and Newari Plate, great authentic food. Very much worth it The best Nepalese restaurant I had in America. The Nepalese/Newari dishes are very authentic and delicious.
