We'd ordered from Himalayan Kitchen once before through Door Dash and really liked it, and so we decided to stop in one recent Sunday evening. We're glad we did. Here is what we liked: - Nice comfortable relaxed vibe, not too big a place - Very broad menu with lots to choose from. We decided to sample/share several different options and ordered the Karachi Chicken, Bhera Ko Saag (lamb), and Nawaratan Korma (Vegetable Coconut Curry). All the meals came with basmati rice and we enjoyed them all. They came in little dishes that seemed a bit small when dropped on our table, but there was plenty for three people and even some left overs. And, they even brought us some more rice to take home too. - We also ordered some dumplings, but they were the most ordinary thing we had. And, a side order of Naan was very good, and helped up sop up the terrific sauces from our meals. - Service was decent. This place is SO GOOD- sometimes I dream about their naan and tikka masala.. Covid Precautions They are open for take out- You can walk in and order, or call ahead over the phone. Everyone waits outside after ordering. The chicken tikka masala was nothing that I have ever had before- melt in your mouth, rich and buttery... and the garlic cilantro naan was the COMBO FINISHER. So soft. so buttery. so smooth. Also ordered the Biryani (spice EXPLOSION) its packed with many different herbs/spices. I personally did not like it as much and was a little overwhelming in flavor... but the side sauce that it comes with is SO good- especially with the naan. Their portions are huge and easily can turn into tomorrow's breakfast and lunch. Great customer service. When we visited, there was one man handling all of the orders/payment/food but he was very detail oriented. He re-checked our order and realized that we were missing the side sauce (which I am truly grateful for because that sauce was a game changer) I honestly wish I were closer to this place so I can order whenever I'm craving indian food! Came here today because last time we came they were closing so all we could see was people seriously enjoying their food . We had already eaten today so we just got the salmosas to share . This lamb was inedible!! I've never had such overcooked, dry lamb in my life. Had this been dine in I'd have demanded a refund! The moto was bland. In my previous (3 stars) review I had mentioned about the discrepancies in terms of food quality between lunch specials and dinner menu. After exchanging few emails with the manager and discussing the issues, along with pointing out that my initial review praised this establishment for their dinner food, I decided to go back for dinner and bring a friend along with us. Please note that I did NOT accept any free food nor asked for any type of refund/discount or whatsoever. This review, like my initial one, remain totally unbiased. So back for dinner, I maintain my initial assessment: the dinner food is fantastic. We went for the delicious "momos" (dumplings, again!), honestly some of my favorite dumplings I ever had. I'm not sure if Moms are a traditional Indian dish but make sure you try them here. I could eat a dozen by myself, especially with the spicy sauce. Vegetarian curries: Palaak paneer, Aloo gobi ko tarkari. Both excellents and I could tell it was hand crafted, made to order. Chicken tandoori: served on a hot place. So good. Comes with lot of veggies. Light but tasty seasoning. Perfect. My guests had a huge crush on the veggie soup. To be honest, this is something I' eat everyday during winter. Love the spices. I love this place! But the guys who work there rush you if you're having a drink. This has happened to me on multiple occasions where they have verbally judged me for ordering a second glass of wine and i have ever ordered one glass they have tried to pull my 1/2 finished glass from the table before I finish. Not sure what that is about. The guys also will stare at you to pay when the check comes and rush you out. It's very uncomfortable. I have stopped coming here because of these two things. We've tried at least a half dozen Indian restaurants in Phoenix/Scottsdale and none compare to HK. I have tried many dishes here over a long period of times, and can not remember them all. I do remember that they've all been very good. My most recent order was the Salad, something I've ordered many times before, always enjoyed, and would definitely order order again. I also got the Saag Aloo- I believe medium spicy with a side of hot sauce- it was really great, I enjoyed it with rice, and used the whole container of hot sauce. Would definitely order again. GO TO THEIR LUNCH SPECIAL!!! IT IS SUCH A GOOD DEAL!!! You get a whole meal with great portions: lentil soup, naan and two curries with rice for under $8! The chicken tikka masala was really yummy and tomatoe-y. Their spice levels range from 1-10. I like my food on the spicier side and got a 5/10 for the first time just to try it out but I might go for a 7 or 8 next time! The saag aloo was a little on the heavy side for me so I might get a different second curry next time I go for lunch. ALSO IT CLOSES FROM 3-4 PM. A very delicious option for take out! In the same strip mall where Sprouts is located. Spicy levels 1-10! Lunch specials are a great deal. The goal curry Level 2 is not too overwhelming in spice but just enough that it isn't gamey. It was hard to detect the spiciness, as compared to my experience with Banh Thai/Sab E Lee's level 2. The paneer tikka masala is very flavorful, just like the chicken one, but I think I prefer the chicken in tikka masala instead. The chicken vindaloo is one of my favorites, so creamy and just tangy. For whatever reason, there was a miscommunication on the phone order, I asked for a 3rd lunch special but 1 of the 2 curries was a different dish, and both curries were full-size orders. Yes, why order on the phone these days, right?! I think Grubhub gets a commission so I avoid using apps when I can so that restaurants can be compensated the full amount. Anyway, turned out the mistake was a pleasant surprise. They were still veggie curries regardless. The Nawaratan Korma (Vegetable Coconut Curry) is must try. Aloo Matar (Green snow peas and potato) was also delicious. Lamb momo - must try. The meat filling is delicious. garlic/cilantro naan is decent as well. Definitely returning in the future. read more

Let me start this review by saying that my girlfriend and I eat Indian often and take our curries pretty seriously. We've lived in Encintas for a while and tried most Indian places around town -- and from that experience had decided that Tandoori Palace had the best Indian -- by far -- in Encintas (at least for vegetarians). However, we find it a bit pricey. Tonight was our first time going to Himalayan Kitchen, and we had pretty high hopes. We ordered our standard -- paneer tikka masala and a navaratan korma. Verdict: Although about 30% cheaper than Tandoori Palace, unfortunately the palace was substantially better in both dishes. My gf and I both quickly agreed we would opt for the higher price for the better curries. That said, Himalayan kitchen was still quite good -- a solid 4 stars for sure, and I'd go back there if I was downtown and in the mood for Indian. read more

My favorite restaurant in San Diego! And the best Indian by far. I drive 40 minutes each way to come here. The flavors are intricate, deep, and complex. Different than other Indian places, even for the same dishes. My favorite is the Malai Kofta. second favorite is Chicken Tikka Masala. I've had bites of other people's food and loved it, too. Would not recommend or return, unfortunately. We ordered butter chicken, vegetable biryani, and garlic cilantro naan. The butter chicken was somehow dry within the sauce, almost like it was (over)cooked separately and then mixed into the sauce, and the whole dish was weirdly sweet. The vegetable biryani had what seemed like a Chinese stir fry veggie mix thrown in, complete with baby corn and water chestnuts. Again, weirdly sweet. Finally, the naan managed to be both chewy and charred. We are big Indian food fans, and we expected this to deviate slightly from that category of cuisine, but this was a big miss, even with adjusted expectations. Is it the worst thing I've ever eaten? No. We'll finish the leftovers, but not enthusiastically. Ultimately, I recommend looking elsewhere for a more satisfying meal. read more
