We ordered the Lamb Takari was very savory & tender, the Palak Paneer was made to perfection with huge cubes of cheese, Buttered chicken was sweet and savory with the butter sauce and, garlic/cilantro naan was amazing and chewy with a crisp. They serve family style in silver serving dishes as seen below but with every dish made you can taste the culture and love the cook put into it. The food was made fresh to order and was very delicious. This family fellow Napal countrymen in business. They are so kind and very welcoming. I only recommend that while serving the entries make the rice make sense. Each entrée was supposed to come with the rice and ordering three entrées that's not what we got. They brought over a bowl that did not equate to what you would get with three entrées that come with rice. The rice we were served with served for two entrées, but definitely not three. A small portion of rice should have been given for the 3rd entrée and all would be fair. I happened to be in the area, and since it is pretty far from me, we decided to give it a go. Ordered naan, Lamb Dumplings and Chicken Tikki masala. Service itself was pretty to the point, not overly warm, but fine. The food took a very long time to come out however, and we were only one of a few guests in the place. The food was tasty, I enjoyed the naan quite a bit too. The place itself is nice, and they have quiet music in the background. I may try other places in the area, but the food was well done. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, malai kofta (mashed cheese potato, nuts, and spices cooked in tomato sauce), and lamb saag (boneless lamb pieces with spinach, herbs, spices). Even though the dishes were all different, they all came in slightly similar red sauces...wish we got to try something on the menu that contrasted the flavors of the chicken tikka masala more. Went here for dinner one of the night during our vacation in Carlsbad. Not the best food that we had but people are nice here. Here are my takes: Food/Drinks: Food was decent. Not the most authentic. Especially the biryani was disappointing and over spicy even though we asked before ordering. However staff was ready to offer us other thing for the kid on the house, that we did not felt of taking though. Service: Order was taken quick and food was on table in no time as well. Not that they kept checking on us and we did has some delay while trying to get them to add something to order in the middle. Ambiance: It is comparatively a large restaurant and the inside decor is nice. Hygiene: While seating area was clean along with plates & cutleries but the toilet was pathetic. It was even blocked when I went. Certainly not for someone who only uses when clean. Price: Reasonably priced items and kudos to that. It's cliche but, if I could give negative stars, I would. I've been to Everest multiple times over the years with friends and have always had a solid experience -- the food was consistent, the staff friendly and welcoming, and it always felt like one of those cozy, reliable neighborhood gems. So naturally, I decided to bring my family last night for the first time, hoping to share a favorite spot of mine with the people I care about most. I genuinely wish I hadn't. From the moment we walked in, something felt... off. We waited nearly 10 minutes just to be acknowledged and place our order. While I usually don't mind a slower pace, that same lack of attention and care carried through the entire meal -- and the overall treatment we received was beyond disappointing. Our server, frankly, was incredibly rude. One-off incidents I can overlook -- I've worked in hospitality and know everyone has bad days -- but this wasn't one bad moment. It was a string of consistently unkind, dismissive interactions that added up to one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. My fiancée ordered a dish that ended up being far too spicy for her. Totally on us -- no complaints there. I politely asked if we could replace it with something milder, and the waiter aggressively responded that he'd have to take the plate back, almost as if we were trying to scam him. I happily agreed to return it -- we weren't trying to get anything for free -- but his tone and body language were unnecessarily hostile. We ordered three entrees and were given a single small portion of rice -- not even close to enough for four people. As someone born and raised in India and a longtime Indian food connoisseur, I can tell you: every Indian restaurant I've ever been to in the U.S. provides unlimited rice or at the very least a second helping upon request. When I asked for more, the waiter literally rolled his eyes, brought it over begrudgingly, and -- surprise -- charged us $2.99 for it. No mention of a charge, no indication on the menu. I don't mind paying for something I ask for -- I do mind being nickel-and-dimed without warning. When I asked if he could clear a couple plates, he shooed me away with his hand. I honestly couldn't believe it. The restaurant is small, and yet I had to physically get up from my table to find him when we needed water, or the bill. All of this might've been easier to swallow if the food had been exceptional, but sadly, it wasn't. The daal soup tasted like overly salted water -- a real letdown, especially when you grew up eating homemade daal that actually had depth and heart. The chicken tikka? Mid at best -- bland, dry, and completely forgettable. My fiancée didn't even touch her replacement dish because, in her words, it just "tasted bad." The only redeeming quality? The naan. Soft, pillowy, perfectly charred -- genuinely some of the best I've ever had. But naan alone can't justify a meal that cost us over $100 and left us feeling disrespected, dismissed, and disappointed. I'm writing this not just out of frustration, but genuine sadness. I've had great experiences at Everest in the past, and it used to be a place I'd recommend without hesitation. But after last night? Food: The first time we went, we ordered the chicken tikka masala (which comes with basmati rice), chicken tikka, and garlic herbal naan. Both chicken dishes had dry chicken and lacked flavor. However, the second time around, we ordered the chicken tikka masala again (level 7 this time instead of 6), shrimp tandoori, and garlic cilantro naan. The chicken in the chicken tikka masala dish was much more tender and had the perfect level of spice. I wonder if they had an off day during our first time there as this place has consistently good reviews. Also, the shrimp tandoori had great flavor and came with a side of veggies. This restaurant is very special to my fiancé and I. It served as our impromptu first date dinner and subsequently our anniversary date dinner a year later. So this place is special to me. Food and service is exceptional. Samosas, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan and lamb biriyani all great. Minus one star for the restroom. It has a toilet and urinal and the urinal is closest to the sink with no barrier like it does for the toilet. My only complaint thus, the minus one star. I'll still come back tho. Overall, this is an ok place. The servers are nice but this restaurant is quite simple in ambiance, food, and the experience in general. We had called ahead to reserve a table for 6 but I think we would have gotten seated quickly even without the reservation. We ordered the Chicken Achari, Lamb Saag, Chilly Shrimp, Nawratan Korma, rotis, garlic cilantro naan, garlic herbal naan and a plain naan. First, the portions are quite small, so I would recommend getting more curries if you are a larger group and planning to share. The best of the lot was the Lamb Saag. The Saag was delicious and the lamb was not too chewy. The Chilly Shrimp was disappointing because the shrimp has not soaked in any of the chilly-veggi sauce and it felt like a tandoori dish rather than an entree. The Chicken Achari was ok but I would've liked a more flavored taste profile. The Nawratan Korma was very sweet, even for being Nawratan Korma. Among the breads, the garlic cilantro naan is the typical garlic naan and it was fluffy and buttery. I would've liked way more garlic than it had. The garlic herbal naan was actually very dry and thin, which took away from its herbal flavor. The plain naans and rotis were fine. We got a large pot of white rice for the table with the entrees, which we ultimately took home. The price tag on the meal was $100. I don't know that this meal flavor profile was really worth that much. I guess Encinitas means there is a certain price tag associated with even mediocre restaurants. All in all, we had a good experience as far as the staff and being able to spend time with friends over food, but the food itself could've been better. read more

I am not quite sure how I feel about the food. I mean the taste was actually good but just not what I was expecting. Of course, Nepali/Himalayan/Pahari food is not the same as Indian food. But because the dish names were the same as Indian I assumed it was the same. I say this because the Palak Paneer was not green like it usually is at Indian restaurants, and their Daal Tadka seemed more like Daal Makhani served at Indian restaurants. The other two people with me liked the food. I guess I am just used to more spice in my food Although the taste was good, it was definitely not spicy (we asked for Spice Level 5) and was more on the sweeter side. We picked the place because of its high ratings. Assuming people who eat a lot Nepali/Himalayan/Pahari food find it delectable. Will I be going back? Probably not. I have been one other Nepali/Himalayan/Pahari up in Los Angeles a few times and the food there was different. I cannot give this restaurant low ratings because the food was good. The service was fast (no customers at 530pm; they start coming in after 7pm), and the ambience was cozy and peaceful. My assumption is they serve authentic Nepali/Himalayan/Pahari food. Yelp did NOT fail us. We tried this spot as it was listed with 4.8 stars. We had lamb momos, garlic naan, and butter chicken. Not a drop remained, when we were done. I would have given 5 stars but the butter chicken base was slightly sweeter than what I usually prefer. This is easily in our top 3 favorite places to eat in all of North County. Everything we've ever ordered is excellent and with adjustments to spiciness it's also a fave of our children ages 1 - 22. Ambiance is casual and fine for a date night, family meal or straight from (or to) the beach take out. The serving sizes are adequate, the prices reasonable, the service always friendly. I always love finding Himalayan cuisine because it's not as common. This is located on the Main Street and we went on a Sunday night so parking was easy at the train station one street above. Looks like there is street parking available too. It is such a popular restaurant! I was amazed at how many people dined in and got to-go orders on a Sunday evening. It's a smaller restaurant but for two, we got seated right away. We ordered the lamb momo, Paneer Tikka Masala, Lukshya ko Masu and garlic cilantro naan. The order came with rice. The lamb was so tender, and the flavors of the curries were so rich and delicious. The momos were so easy to eat (loved the sauce it came with) and delicious- it's like a dumpling but more of the softer texture of a xiao long bao (without the soup). We did spice level 4 (out of 10) and probably could've gone 1-2 levels up (I like spice but can't handle a ton of heat). Service was great, I will definitely be back! read more

Delicious and authentic Indian food just blocks away from the ocean. Two visits in so far and I'm hooked. Serving Himalayan, Nepalese, and Tibetan dishes as well. What brought me in originally was their great lunch specials and outdoor patio. Portions are on the large side so I always have leftovers which seem to taste even better the next day. With temps in the mid 70's during the summer months I also love enjoying their food outside under the bright red umbrellas. We ordered veggie samosas, the Himalayan Balti, chicken Tikka masala, and plain naan. The samosas came out after just a few minutes, served with a nice red sauce (can't tell what it was..). The main courses came out shortly after, but unfortunately they were disappointing. The balti was not flavorful, and the meat was dry and low quality. The rice was barely warm and also dry (old rice?) We really wanted to like this place, especially given the Yelpers' recommendation.
