True Chicago thin crust pizza (I think people would be surprised to find out we actually prefer the thin crust to the famous deep dish we became known for). Hillary's was the high point of our St Augustine trip and we will happily drive the 2 plus hours to return. Crust was just right (nice and crispy and the required squares) . Growing up in Chicago I know what a Chicago pizza is and this place isn't it .. I ordered 2 sausage & pepperoni pizzas thin crust. They only make a 12" by the way, which right there is a red flag. Of frozen crust usually , anyway the pizza was terrible! Crust tough. Hardly no toppings and dry and actually smelled bad! We went to Hillary's based on the star reviews we saw. It was the WORST pizza we have ever eaten. We spent $90 on 3 pizzas and one hot sandwich. The pizza had absolutely no taste. Went here with my parents when they came to visit. I got a pizza with vegan cheese, my dad got a meat lovers, and my mom got a deep dish. The two regular pizzas were horrible. The crust was like a cracker and not pizza dough. The sauce wasn't special either. The deep dish took so long that we had to take it to go an hour after we ordered it. I know deep dish takes a long time to cook, but this was excessive. The service was fine, the inside was very dingy and not clean. Have not and will not return. read more

I love the Chicago decorations in the bar. I grew up around Chicago and have had lou malnatis, giordanos, pizzeria due and others. This is just as good if not better. Unique signature style. If you aren't familiar with deep-dish Chicago pizza it is more thick, has more crust, sauce and toppings. More casserole type. They also make a thin crust which is excellent as well. Excellent Chicago Style Pizza. Formerly from Southern Illinois, we visited Chicago and Champaign often and I love Chicago style pizza. While kids were at UIUC we frequented Papa Dels in Champaign. Son currently lives in Chicago and Giordanos and Puquads are our go tos. Hillary's ranks right up there. Not a lot of tables but nice size bar with local feel to it. read more

Now I am originally from New England area, so I know good pizza. I have never in my life had deep dish pizza, but this was great! Very filling and I enjoyed every bite. Only recommendation would be if a topping is chosen to include in the deep dish, then MORE of that topping should be added - we asked for pepperoni and felt we didn't have enough pepperoni, but still very good. The deep dish pizza is smaller in size but that is because it is filled so don't let the box deceive you. Would not recommend their flat/ thin crust pizza. This is the true Chicago style pizza and the homemade sauce is OUTSTANDING! I would have given this a 5 rating but my pizza came out still cold in middle. But I HIGHLY recommend -this is only their second week-so I think these kinks will work themselves out. I also hated eating this deliciousness on a paper plate. It needs and deserves real plates. This is strictly a review on the pizza and not service/establishment. Anyone who says this is true chicago pizza has never been to chicago. Or maybe they have, but idk where all these 5 star reviews are coming from. My bf and I go out to eat a lot and not everything is always great but we always leave complimenting something we got. When we left, we genuinely wished we got our money back for this pizza. We got the deep dish and it tastes like that old refrigerator taste. There was like five pepperonis on it. The sauce was watery and tasted like chemicals or beer I couldn't distinguish. The crust was hard and not buttery or with any flavor. Such a bummer. Go to Chicago and get pequods, life changing. However the half off wine bottles was great and the bartender was super sweet and the atmosphere was nice! read more

On the South End of St Augustine, away from all the tourist attractions, is a this gem on the side of a strip mall. Having taken over what used to be the old Beers and Dawgs bar, they have kept the decor and kept the excellent beer list but chucked the food out and are now serving great pizza. Hillarys Chicago Pizza makes great Chicago Pizza, period. I had their MFW (Mother F$&%ing Works), which for me is a Classic Chicago Deep Dish. It was fantastic. The tomatoes were excellently flavored, the toppings and cheese superb. The crust was delicious. And let me warn you, the individual is big enough for two people. It is a meal. I saw another diner having their Chicago Thin Crust and it looked fantastic, nice thin crust, a bit blackened as it should be. They take advantage of the prior occupants beer focus by running a wide selection of tap beer from local and non local breweries. Plus wine and other drinks (I was not paying attention to see if they had a full bar). The decor is definately funky and fun, and it is very low key. The staff is really attentive, helpful and friendly. If you go, use your GPS. They are still waitiing to change the signs so just look for the little sign on the sidewalk telling you you are there. With pizza like this, it should not be long before they can get a new sign. read more

The menu is small which honestly is perfect because their focus is on the pizza which clearly is shown! And Hillary and her husband Bruce are fun, easy going owners who we had the pleasure of having a few conversations with during our visit! It's a small restaurant/bar with not a lot of tables but has a local charm where you feel like family! The pizza does take about an hour so make sure to give yourselves plenty of time! A TRUE SLICE OF CHICAGO!! Let me start by telling the owners of Hillary's THANK YOU! I cannot overstate the importance of those of us in the greater Jacksonville area that are from the greater Chicagoland area to have this accessible to us. I really didn't know how much I missed this food until I was stuffing my face with it Now for the review: Since this was my first time there, my expectations were neither high nor low...but I was honestly hoping to love it. After eating there I can say that I DO INDEED LOVE IT! For any Chicago area native, this is an oasis in a desert...I was with a good friend and she told me that it was pretty good, but I wanted to see & taste for myself...Since I hadn't had Chicago food in several years, I wanted a little taste of everything...in fact, I'd recommend that on your first trip here. So we shared an Italian beef sandwich (dipped, of course with giardinere), a thin crust or tavern style pizza and a deep dish pizza...all I can say it that it was all excellent! It was also cool to see and meet so many people from the Chicago area...I met a gentleman from Melrose Park who said he hadn't had a deep dish in 40 years...and then it struck me--that's what this place aspires to be (in my opinion)... connecting all of us ex-Chicagoans over the love we have for OUR food! My hope is that this place is packed out so much that they have to find a bigger space so that we all can enjoy our slice of home! GO GET THIS AMAZING FOOD! read more
