I work at a neighboring school district, and I like to buy donuts for my students as a treat. Unfortunately, my last two visits to HiHi Donut have been very disappointing. I clearly ordered three dozen donuts -- one dozen glazed, one dozen maple, and one dozen chocolate. Even after correcting the worker twice, they still packed the order incorrectly. Instead of giving me full dozens of each flavor, they put one of each in each box and filled the rest with assorted donuts that my students don't even eat. There were other customers waiting, and I didn't want to make everyone wait even longer by asking them a third time, so I just took the order as it was. I spent over $60 on donuts for my kids, only to receive something completely different from what I ordered. Hi Hi Donuts was great - we ended up going a little later in the morning so the assortment was running out but that just tells me it is THAT good! Restaurant temperature was just right and decor was quaint, diner-esque. Steady flow of customers coming and going. Parking lot was in okay condition and easy to navigate. Staff was friendly, attentive, organized, and urgent. Appearance was casual and clean. Donut bread is phenomenal, so light and not too sweet. Ham and Cheese Croissant was tasty, had a good amount of ham and cheese, flaky, and they even heat it up for you. Jelly Donut was packed with jelly which was flavorful and didn't taste artificial. Cinnamon Roll could've had more cinnamon, but had the perfect amount of glaze. Overall, worth the price. As someone who used to live in Austin, Texas, I was mainly persuaded to choose HiHi by the fact that they have Kolaches, I loooove a good Kolache! Thankfully HiHi has a great spicy sausage Kolache, I was super pleased with the flavor and texture of it. The selection was great, they have plenty of yeast donuts and cake donuts to choose from, as well as glazed, unglazed, and honey glazed options. I chose a dozen different kinds and enjoyed sampling the different ones I chose. I thought the chocolate cake donut base was delicate and delicious, no mater the topping. I tried their Thai Iced Tea with boba and it tasted good too. Last but definitely not least, the service was so friendly and great and the kind of friendly that is more like conversing with a genuinely sweet person versus 'customer-service-nice'. I tried a blueberry donut which had soft cake, lightly glazed outer coating and a mild blueberry flavor. The apple fritter was a tasty treat, and at $1.89 I thought it was a fair price for what I got. So I follow 7th St. Rainbow Donuts on instagram and have been wanting to try them for quite some time but never seemed to be in the area at the right time. Fast forward to Spring Break. Arrived at about 11 not realizing they close at noon. Uh oh was my first thought. I am going to get what no one else wants. We went in anyway. Selection was sparse but we opted to have a go at it. I really wanted to try the maple bacon. The nice lady said well, I can make you a couple! Two maple bacon, one Froot Loop, two chocolate bars, one glazed. I was a little sticker shocked at the $9 price tag but since they were closing soon she threw in some glazed donut holes. As we were leaving again I was thinking, she threw those donut holes in because they are old and they can't sell them. Boy, oh boy was I wrong. All of the donuts were soft and fresh, yes even the holes. These donuts were probably some of the best I have ever had. The frosting/glazes were sweet but not overpowering. The dough soft and light. This place was a shock to me as I had very low expectations going in. What I ended up experiencing was fast and friendly service with excellent coffee (and I'm from Seattle)! In fact, I thought the donuts were above average too despite their average appearance. Update- these donuts aren't good anymore. I think they sell their donuts one or even two days old. I found another place that is way way more fresh and doesn't sell donuts that are one day old. don't have many donut places in my immediate neighborhood. I generally drive a few Miles to get to a good one, mostly because I refuse to go to Dunkin' Donuts. I tried rainbow today for the first time. I know it's been in this location for many years, but it always looks closed for some reason. Anyway, the lady at the counter is very very very nice. Which is the biggest reason I give 4 stars. The donuts are average in my opinion. But definitely better than stupid Dunkin' Donuts. The Boston creams I got didn't really have much filling. But remember, I'm basing this against my experience at another donut shop. These rainbow donuts are just fine to eat and are soft and fresh. I'm just super picky about my donuts.
