So I drove the Group to a placed on the west side with the same quality but was more reasonable. 3rd Visit: I was treating two TWEENS by taking them some place where they could have fun spending their own money. While the two of them were chatting at the register, one of the tweens told the other she wanted something because it sounded good. The manager or team member said "you want that?", the tween said "yea". The manager/team member started making it. The two tweens came back a few minutes later with their real order. the manager or team member presented them with A BILL FOR THREE DRINKS. I informed her this is how the children talk, they just were talking and that wasn't their order. She refused to take it off the bill and forced children to choose paying the whole thing or walking out. I wasn't going to stand for it but the other tween (not the one who was taking about it originally) insisted they'd buy both their drink and the unwanted drink anyway (to try something new) even though they didn't want it. Not my kid and their parent was okay with it so whatever I guess. I didn't say anything bad but the first tween who went through the process of thinking out loud, watching the whole ordeal and how their friend handled the situation felt it was fine but also the shop manager/team member was rude and the other employees there were compliant with this poor behavior and doesn't want to go back. Stopped by this boba place on our way back into town. It's located in a plaza next to a bare parking area. Walking in was inviting with plenty of clean tables. Nice staff. My husband and I shared the Hing King lemon tea with 50% sugar adjustment with herb jelly. The drink itself was refreshing and satisfying. The herb jelly on the other hand was bland and had huge chunks which was drinkable. I would suggest dicing them up enough to be slurped with the straw. The service was just okay too, but one drink came without its boba, like a party missing its guest of honor so they had to redo it after verifying we did in fact ask for boba. They don't have options for dairy-free or sweetness levels, or to customize a milkshake (we were actually told they don't do milkshakes yet one of the featured items was a cookie butter milkshake). Very happy with all the ladies service. The Halloween seasonal "Witches Brew" green apple soda with mango boba is my personal favorite. I also enjoy Lady of the sun fruit tea and blended carmel macchiato. Great neighbors. Good value. They're fast and effective but also let me rant about work. They adjust accordingly. Tortoise Tea House popped up on my yelp search and I am so glad that it did! The space is very cute and clean, with plenty of tables/seating. I actually came here two days in a row - the first time, got the Tortoise Tea, which consists of milk tea, boba, grass jelly, and pudding. The boba was fresh and chewy. Second visit, I got the mashed taro/jasmine tea. It was also delicious, just wish I did add some jelly or boba. They're unable to make their house milk tea with alternative milks as it is pre-made, however I was advised that they do offer oat milk and coconut milk for other drinks. There are not many bubble tea shops in North Phoenix so was excited to find out that they had their grand opening on Saturday, June 18th! The shop is very clean, has cute decor, and has friendly and great customer service from the two sisters running the place. They are welcoming and create a warm atmosphere to your experience. I only had a chance to try the Crème Bru Matcha & Oreo drink which was out of this world! The matcha and Oreo crumbles in the tea were a perfect match made in heaven! I don't typically order boba tea with pudding, but the crème brûlée pudding was a more subtle touch to the drink which added a nice texture to it. Hands down some of the best boba/teas I've ever had! For whatever reason it's pretty hard to find good boba in the area. I was a regular at a two shops I liked by Bell and the 51 but both closed within about a year apart. Just before the second shut down, I tried Tortoise Tea House and it's been a game changer (the only place I really go anymore!) You can definitely taste the quality. The milk teas are rich and smooth. Their boba is cooked very well and has a nice balance of soft and chewy, never hard. They have a few latte options which don't have any tea-- I'm a big fan of the sesame latte-- and their fruit teas are absolutely delightful and refreshing (thirsty orange is my favorite!). They often have specials/seasonal drinks too. Right now it's a watermelon tea/float, and while I haven't had the float yet, the tea is very tasty. You can also make other fruit teas into floats by adding ice cream, and you guessed it, I love the thirsty orange with ice cream to make it taste like a dreamsicle. Service is straight to the point but friendly. They will get your order in and your drink out without too much conversation which I'm personally partial towards (introvert friendly!), and the overall ambiance is very nice. It's super clean, the lighting is bright but not harsh, and there are games in the back if you wish to stay and chill. There are tables for groups and window seats if you prefer solitude, and the windows are tinted so you can't see as well through the glass from the outside. The owners are also family with the next door Chinese restaurant, so paying a visit will surely be supporting more than one local and minority-owned business! read more

I love trying new boba spots and felt like this establishment was really promising. As with most new boba places I go to, I try the milk tea to gauge how good the drinks are. That's typically what I do unless the place is known for another drink. I was quite disappointed in the milk tea. The ratio of creamer and tea was off and I felt like I was drinking creamer water. The establishment is cute and have some good drink options on their menu but the milk tea did not deliver. Additionally, the boba felt like it was old and needed to be replaced. It was hard to use a straw to drink the boba because you could tell it was not fresh. Considering this place isn't that conveniently located compared to where I live, I don't foresee myself returning. I wish the business all the best as it appeal to some other people. read more

SO excited for this place! I was able to attend their soft opening where they had a few select drinks from their menu and was very impressed! Their interior is clean and so cute! There's a good amount of space for seating. The staff is absolutely AMAZING, friendly, and so helpful! We got our drinks pretty quickly! I got to taste about 4-5 drinks (I got a sample cup of their house milk tea) and liked them all! Some of their drinks can lean a bit on the sweeter side, but the flavors are great and the boba is nicely cooked! My favorite was probably the sesame frapp, because I have been craving for a good black sesame drink for a while now and that hit the spot. There are not a lot of boba places in this area so I'm very excited! TL:DR - Amazing bubble tea in an older rundown strip mall. Super clean and updated interior welcomes you to the best bubble tea in town (in my opinion). Fruit teas taste like the actual fruit with a tasty touch of honey. The milk tea is milky and sweet, and all with perfectly cooked boba. Wonderful and super friendly people behind the counter make this place a destination spot for me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Man this place is GUUUUUUUUUUUD! Easily the best overall bubble tea spot I've had in Phoenix. Most places thus far in Phoenix have either been sub par or do fruit tea really well but haven't figured out milk tea's yet, and it is not for lack of trying, cause there's so many boba places here. But tbh, the plaza where Tortoise Tea House is located seems a bit old/sketchy, but the interior of the tea house is very clean, updated, and spacious. They have a good, but not overwhelming, selections of fruit tea and milk teas with some fancier (i.e., pricier) specialty teas as well. Most teas will run you about $4.50 - $5.50 which honestly is cheap now-a-days. But I got the Passion Fruit tea and a Tortoise Tea which is their house milk tea plus boba, pudding, and grass jelly. I personally like my teas fairly sweet, with the mind set that if I'm treating myself to bubble tea, I'm gonna enjoy it as intended, while you can't adjust the sweetness of house milk tea (i.e., the tortoise tea) I thought both were perfectly sweet at 100%. Nothing overly sweet or fake syrupy sweet. So if you like 100% get it, if you like less, get it and it should be pretty on point. The house milk tea is what you expect from a good sweet milk tea, but the passion fruit tea was ON POINT. Amazing passion fruit flavor with slices of citrus fruit in the cup. It also had an amazing touch of honey that really shined through without being over powering, but I'm not sure if that came from the boba or is normally in the drink. The boba was also 100% perfectly chewy. Like right in that sweet spot with some give but not still hard in the center. All in all, this is easily a go to spot for me for both fruit teas and milk teas, especially at their price points. Will be back often! read more

Wow. This small hole in the wall tea house is definitely worth trying. The ambiance is modern and welcoming, the staff is knowledgeable about the menu and answered a few questions like "what is grass jelly?" . My wife had the Strawberry milk tea with mango popping boba and I had the Taro milk tea with grass jelly. The Strawberry milk tea was tasty and refreshing. It had huge slices of real strawberry in it, it was great! But, the Taro was absolutely amazing, the perfect amount of sweetness paired with the nutty taste of taro. I added grass jelly (very mild tasting dark green gelatin) to my drink and it added a nice texture without taking away from the flavor of the drink. We will definitely be trying a few more things on the menu since it's walking distance from us. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. read more
