(I'm not sure why they changed their name, but l once got a "cold call" from "Armstrong Roofing" however, that company wasn't located in Half Moon Bay, so they were trying to poach business or something else.) Anyway, MANY years ago, Norm came and replaced the roofs on both my home and my garage and so far so good. He also did my Neighbor's home s month earlier, the same year, but theirs doesn't look as good. (I think maybe we ordered better quality asphalt shingles. Or, their vents are causing streaks.) All of the other five star reviews for Norm come as no surprise to me. I am happy to confirm that my experience working with him was just as wonderful as his Yelp reputation would seem to justify. Norm was courteous, incredibly professional, his pricing was fair, and the end product (i.e., our brand new roof) is great. It's so refreshing to find a contractor like Norm who responds to all forms of communication very quickly and is genuinely concerned that his clients are truly pleased with the results of his work. In our case he brought several different samples of roofing material to the house. When I didn't think any of the samples were quite what we were looking for, Norm went to great lengths to find the exact style that we wanted. Early on in the process I learned that Norm is quite an ultra runner. Say what you like about individuals who run 50 miles or more through the Sierras (you may think it is masochistic, but I think it is incredible), but somehow it just all makes sense. He reminds me of the grownup version of those fantastic cross country runners that populate nearly every high school. You know the type -- kind and hard working, down to earth, quietly confident.... We just had a new Flintlasttic low pitch roof installed on our home. Norm Armstrong is the owner and gave us a very fair price. We couldn't be more pleased with the work and professionalism of this company and Norm. Norm installed our first new roof on our home 21 years ago and did a great job. We had only one leak in all this time just in the past 3 months, and he personally came out on the next day to repair it for us. His workers always cleaned up after each day and were finished in just 2 1/2 days. Norm is also very personal and it's a pleasure doing business with him. I recently moved to HMB into a house with an older shake roof and wanted to replace it before the next rainy season (whenever that is!). I interviewed three local roofers and selected Norm Armstrong because of his prompt and very thorough responses to my many questions. I had a lot of options for roofing materials and Norm provided quick answers, samples, and references where I could look at different roofs. He took a lot of time to explain to pros and cons of different materials and he had great insights about why certain products would work well with my house. As it turned out, the house painting and roofing needed to get done at about the same time, and Norm coordinated with the painters so they could get some painting done after the demo but before the roofing was installed. Norm's crew is skilled, prompt, and very neat; at the end of each day of the 2-week project the site was cleaned up and materials and tools were put away. The job is done now and the roof looks absolutely splendid. There were no surprises, and he came in right at the bid price, which was quite competitive. In September Norm and his team came in and re-roofed my house, and replaced about two feet of plywood around the perimeter of the entire house. There was some dry-rot around the perimeter and some rafters needed to be touched as well. Along with it there was some stucco work that had to happen and replacement of vent grilles. I cannot say anything negative about Norm's organization. Every day guys were neat and organized and left the jobsite clean. Everyone was professional and try to minimize disturbance. It was very much appreciated. Norm was very good from the very start, thorough and attentive. He was very personal about this and in general treated me as a customer as the project with respect and care. This is very critical. Work was fast and in the end everything appears to be good. I waited for some rains to come through to make sure roof is in good order before writing this review. So far so good. We had some good rains this season and not a sign of any leaks. NORM IS AWESOME! YOU WILL LOVE HIM AND HIS CREW! I LOVED WORKING WITH HIM AND YOU WILL TOO!!!! Never having done anything as grownup as having my roof replaced, I read the reviews on Yelp for local roofers and found High Point Roofing. I went to the website and completed their online inquiry. Norm Armstrong the owner responded within 12 hours. The following Friday we met at the house and within an hour he emailed me an estimate. I was expecting to pay 4X the amount Norm quoted me. "They" say you should get 3 estimates but his rate was so low and his manner was so professional and reassuring I didn't even bother contacting anyone else. The following Friday work started (we had rain all that week). The following Monday they had about an hours' worth of work to complete the work. And what a BEAUTIFUL NEW ROOF! It's not a roof, it's a work of art! It wasn't painful at all! Well, the roof was such a work of art it made the house look old and decrepit. So Norm gave me another estimate that Monday afternoon within hours. Tuesday they showed up at 8am right on time and by Thursday his guys beautifully re-shingled the back and sides of my house. Work was done on time, was not at all intrusive, they cleaned up after themselves, and I practically have a brand new house for very little out-of-pocket expense. I am once again house proud! Thank you Norm! He is so wonderful and professional and will keep you updated every step of the way. He let me change my mind several times during the process and was accommodating and respectful and I feel like I now have a good friend in the roofing business. I originally heard about Norm long before I was looking for a new roof. I belong to a Yahoo group that covers the geographic area I live in, and someone asked for a roofer recommendation. I saw a huge number (practically all) of responses that raved about Norm. I noted the information for future reference. Fastforward about 2 years and my roof is leaking. I called Norm, and sure enough he did not disappoint. He was very easy to work with and very accommodating to my requirements. When I selected my roof material, he provided me with a number of addresses using it so that I could confirm that it was the right look. His quote was the lowest that I received. As far as the actual job, I was impressed with the processes that he used to do the demo, bring in the new material, and install the roof. It went off like clockwork. His employees were highly competent and very easy to deal with. The new roof looks great and best of all, does not leak. After the demo, a significant amount of water damage was found in one area due to improper installation of the original roof. Norm's crew did a great job with the repair. In fact, their repair work looks better than the original construction it replaced. They also installed proper venting in the repair area to prevent future failures. Norm's price for the repair work was also very fair. Norm is also a great guy to talk to, and we had some interesting conversations. It was actually fun to have him and his crew here. I had my roof replaced by Norm a few years ago and it was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a contractor. After the job was supposedly finished, I climbed up on the roof to check it out. I was shocked to see that the roofers had left all the electrical connections on the roof disconnected. We have quite a lot of electrical conduit on the roof, which they had disconnected while they worked. When they were done they just left all the conduit laying open on the roof. After some haggling, Norm sent an electrician out to fix the damage left by the roofers, which took him over 4 hours. I shudder to think what would have happened if I hadn't inspected the work. Undoubtedly our house's electrical system would have been flooded with water on the next rain. Then a few weeks later during some rain I heard water dripping inside an interior wall. I called Norm who sent a guy out to add some caulking. This didn't solve the problem. After a few more visits, they finally determined that the water was leaking through a small cripple wall on the roof. At that point Norm told me it was not his responsibility to fix, and pointed me to a clause in the contract which said that walls are not covered. He freely admitted that his men probably caused the damage to the wall during the roofing work, but said that since it was a wall and not the roof itself that was leaking, he wasn't going to fix it. I had to hire another contractor to replace the siding on the wall. That contractor and several others told me that I should sue Norm for the bill, but it wasn't worth my trouble. read more

Showed up on time for our first meeting, were professional, gave an estimate right away, showed up on time every day, cleaned up after themselves everyday and finished on time. Plus, great job on the roof, very happy! Would highly recommend. We also had skylights and sun tunnels put in at the same time as the new roof and High Point coordinated the work with that vendor. We also had new gutters put on at the same time. High Point coordinated that as well but didn't sell us the gutter service and then mark it up. We paid the 'gutter guy' directly. read more

We used Norm to re-roof our old house in La Honda. He and his team were great. Despite a very complicated roof structure with a lot of annoying detail work, his team did a great job. I know they ran in to a lot of unexpected work and they had to buy some extra materials they weren't expecting, like cedar shingles for a small area hidden under some eaves, Norm did not charge me. In fact we had a misunderstanding about a small project I thought was included but was not in the contract. My fault for not reading carefully. He threw it in at no charge. The whole project went smoothly with great clean up afterwards and a beautiful roof with a five year warranty! Also, despite an irregular roof line on our 90 year old house, they kept the shingle lines very straight and evenly spaced. Something a previous roofer was not able to do. Not sure how they did it, but I appreciate the workmanship. read more

I had a leak in my roof / ceiling during the recent three storms that blew through town. Norm responded to my inquiry on their website on the same day. They were out here inspecting my roof by Monday morning at 930am. And they completed their work by 1200pm on the same day. It was a reasonable price, and he gave me a rough estimate of the overall condition of my roof at the same time and the rough estimate cost of replacement. He seems to be an honest local business man. It was a pleasure having his team fix my roof problem so quickly and timely. The next storm is due tomorrow, so I will know if everything is permanently ok. But I am very impressed with their professionalism. read more

I contacted High Point Roofing and another roofing company in San Mateo for a re-roofing quotation 2 weeks ago. Both companies had 5 star on Yelp and their quotations were very close. I selected High Point since they are located in Half Moon Bay near my house. I told Norm that I want the roofing dine by the end of June. Norm promised that will be no problem. He started on June 13 and finished June 14 in the afternoon. They did a very nice job, on time and cleaned up after they finished. Preparing to sell my house, I needed to put a new roof on it in a tight time frame. Norm Armstrong was stellar in making it happen. He was thoroughly professional, and made sure he answered all my questions and explained paperwork/inspections with great customer service. His team worked remarkably safely and quickly, making sure they cleaned up as they went. The quality of work was outstanding. Prep, demolition and execution went completely as planned. Noise was managed to accommodate the neighbors, too. I was so lucky throughout my fixer upper remodel. All good experiences and my house looks awesome. Norm and his crew worked with the siding contractor to work the flashing into the roof installation so that it was done right, working his schedule around them and coming back to do the finishing touches. I forget the brand he used (great selection of colors) but it looks beautiful. At no additional cost they installed a few airvents from the attic as apparently the internal heat and condensation buildup weakens the roof job over time. On top of it all, Norm is just such a nice guy. He even referred me to local running group and another female runner as I'm new to the neighborhood (Norm's an ultra runner) Everyone in the neighborhood knows himand has great things to say about him and his work so he clearly has a fantastic reputation that extends beyond yelp.
