I would like to rate Modern Roof 10 stars if I would. Having Ivan and his team to replace my roof was one of the best decisions I made. Ivan was able to fit us into his busy schedule and finished the job earlier than we expected. Most importantly, Ivan is very responsible, professional, knowledgeable and honest. He kept me updated of whole process with before, in process and after photos. The crews are very efficient and hardworking. They always shown up on time on the early morning and clean up properly at end of day. I highly recommend Modern Roof without any hesitation. Thank you very much Ivan, and your team! read more

Poor information listed on yelp: This business needs to update their service area map and address. They're not in San Bruno - it's San Jose. And he was reluctant to look at a job on the north end of San Mateo County. Can't blame him. We also didn't want to pay for a roof repair if their commute costs is part of their quote read more

Can't say anything on their quality of their job. They badly screwed up on estimate appointments twice. They called me 10 times and sent 10 messages to schedule with 3 different times and they just didn't show up for any of them. They rescheduled for next day and didn't show up. It was more than enough. Highly recommend to avoid. If available would give them zero stars. read more

Great guy, super fast, HONEST! I called him because my home insurance via arial view saw some moss/lichen on my roof and didn't want to renew my policy unless it was removed. Gustavo came next day and powerwashed the hell out of all the lichen for a very reasonable price. I appreciate he didn't try and upsell me like another person I got a quote from (which was 3x the price!) read more

It is a scam. The sales man showed 1/2 hour early, and the first thing he does he looks through my Garage door . Once at the door, he insisted to see inside of my house to see the condition of roof from inside a two story house!! Which was totally bogus, he just wanted to see how we live so he can decide how to give us a quote. His lowest quote for cheapest material was 125K and 348K for metal roof !!! WTF He did not give me any paperwork, just wrote the quote on a piece of paper, and told me to take picture. He could not give me itemized quote, he just pulled these number after playing with his phone calculator. I wasted two hours of life. read more

I have had a leak in my bedroom ceiling for three years, my contractor kept trying to find the cause. Enough! I started calling roofing companies for estimates. Tragically, the entire roof had to be replaced. I went with Modern Roofing, because they were the only ones who went into my attic space to see if there was any sign of trouble/damage. The cost was a little lower, and they give you a 20% discount if the wood framing has to be replaced. Unfortunately, all of the roof had to go. The 20% discount is higher than you will get from other companies. Also, a 50 year warranty on materials, with sliding scale for labor. But the best part of this experience, was having Mena as project manager. He would immediately respond to my texts/calls, answer all of my questions, put any worries to bed, and was so pleasant through the entire process. I appreciate him so much! The work crew was friendly and really cleaned up after they were done. It was a little stressful for me at times, but Mena checked in each day, and that was a relief. I recommend Modern Roofing, and Mena. read more

Ivan and his crew were simply amazing to come and replace our roof within 48 hours of the call ! The crew worked nonstop and were perfectionists down the cleanup. The new roof and gutters are beautiful and all the neighbors stop to marvel at it. We're ready to face another "atmospheric river ". Thanks Ivan ! Genny read more

Modern Roofing had Sam coordinate everything for our new roof. Out of 9 companies Sam was one of 2 to give us a complete statement of work detailing everything to be done to rip off the old cement tile roof and replace it with composition shingle. Everything was explained before any work started. Whenever we had any questions Sam showed up to address our concerns, spoke to his crew and explained things. When the previous underlayment had to be replaced, we both inspected the roof and Sam explained why and what had to be replaced which resulted in an additional cost. Sam also had a different crew come out to remove the old insulation, clean up and disinfect the attic, install new insulation and put stainless steel mesh on the inside of all the vents to prevent any rodents from getting into the attic. There was the final inspection for everything. The quality of the materials and work was outstanding. Of course like everything else the cost was higher than it would have been before 2019 but it was worth it. We got a great result and value for what we paid for. The crew cleaned up at the end of each day. As a result, the house is staying between 12-18 degrees cooler than the outside and is saving on both our heating and cooling costs. When it rains, we do not even hear the rain falling on the roof. It is that quiet. Sam did a great job in keeping us informed on the progress, managing his crew, and writing up a great statement of work. We would recommend Modern Roofing and Sam for any of your roof or insulation work. read more

I wanted to give 5 stars for quick response. But workmanship was sub-par due to sharp edges and corners reachable by anyone. I left messages 3x but no response and never fixed after payment made in full. read more

Ivan was great to work with. We hired him to redo our flat roof and install a new custom skylight. Quick response, courteous, and had great ideas and simple solutions to issues. I signed up with them and they immediately deposited my check and then I heard nothing from them for weeks. I talked to the project manager Leo and he said they would return it, but that was over a month ago. I don't trust them. read more

Beware of these guys!!!!!!!!! They pretended they are from this company but all they want is to go inside your house and get you're important information. I called Ivan to verify if he knows Jacob, but he says no one works with him that name. Do not let them check your attic, and they'll make you go up and check it your self. The other guy will distract you, while Jacob will go to your personal stuff. read more

Best roofing company in Napa valley in quality and value- The entire team is great to work with. Thank you

This company is a scam. I live in San Mateo in California. They came out to give me a quote and turned it into a high pressure sales. They forced to sign today otherwise no other company would be able to do the work. Are you kidding me. What year are we in. The salesman who was here was very very young and the representative felt like he was very hyper active. I can't recall the names correctly but something along the lines of Allen and Andrew. Long story short look for someone's. I'm getting 3 quotes for sure. I have my next one tomorrow. read more

These guys are the best in San Bruno, fair, honest, hardworking, and so kind too. They fixed our leaking roof and put in new gutters last year. A year later our hood started to leak and they came out the next day and fixed it. Can't recommend them enough if you need your roof redone or fixed call these guys!!!! read more

Ivan, his brother Chris, and their team are excellent workers! My family and I reached out to them last year when we noticed our roof was leaking. We decided at that time to only patch up that particular leaky spot in our roof, but a few weeks ago, we noticed our roof was leaking again but in a different area. We reached out to Ivan again, who quickly responded and gave us a very reasonable quote on getting our entire roof redone. Chris and his crew finished working on our roof and gutters in 2 days!! They were also very nice and professional. We can always count on them for quick but quality work. We highly recommend Modern Roofing for all of your roofing needs. read more

Ivan was responsive. Pricing was fair. 6 guys came and finished 1/4 of my roof in less than one day. So glad we found Ivan!

Without hesitation, I will rehire Peninsula Roofing. They replaced the flat roof on my 1911 home within budget, on schedule, and with high degrees of professionalism and quality control. Moreover, they advised me on the pros and cons of leading roofing materials. With residential and commercial construction so busy, it has been very difficult to hire and retain great contractors. Peninsular Roofing has been a bright spot and relief for me. read more

Made an appointment for gutter estimate. They flaked. Called them and they said they would call back. Didn't call me back (for hours). So I called them again. Said they would call me back to reschedule an appointment. Never did. In January 2019, we had a big storm in San Francisco. We encountered a leak in our garage bathroom. We tried calling several roofing companies and were given lame excuses why they can't come over and help. We contacted Ivan and he told us that he can come over right away to inspect for damage. Ivan not only identified the problem but was also able to complete the repair the same day. It didn't cost an arm and a leg. Ivan was very professional and accommodating. He didn't have to do it. There were definitely much larger jobs that day he could have taken on, but he knew we needed his help and he didn't disappoint. He is definitely a master of his craft. If you have any roofing related issues, Ivan at Peninsula Roofing is your go to man!!!! Thank you for the great work!!!! Cheers!!!! read more

We decided to put our house on the market and needed someone fast to replace the roof for us. We found Ivan and his crew on Yelp and was skeptical at first but we were so amazed by them after working with them. Ivan gave us a super competitive quote and then came and completed our roof on a 1770 square foot house within a day. The quality was great and they also checked our balcony for free to help us with our water leaking issue. He then gave us another super competitive quote to fix it in a short time even my real estate agent was surprised at the quality and pricing after working in the real estate business for over 15 years. We highly recommend Ivan and his crew! Thanks Ivan and crew! read more

Ivan and his team are absolutely amazing. They came right away to fix two leaks on my roof. Gave me a great quote and fixed it the same day. Ivan was very responsive and quick to come over and give us a quote. Their pricing is competitive and we got on their calendar for the job within a week. The crew was extremely efficient and polite. They were even thoughtful about when my baby was napping. We highly recommend Peninsula Roofing. They also provide a fantastic guarantee on their work. They exceeded our expectations Update 12/08/19 Cannot rave enough about Ivan and Peninsula roofing. We discovered an unexpected leak due to high winds blowing over a ventilation system. Ivan responded to our call with an hour on an early Sunday morning. His crew was out within a few hours to fix/repair the issue. Once again, the crew was respectful and very professional. Highly recommend this wonderful company. read more

When we bought the house, the realtor said the roof was recently done. Ivan inspected the roof and said that is was more than 10 years old. He gave us a fair price and his team completed the work in 2 days. Also, the team did a good job with cleanup. There are no rusty nails on the driveway, they checked with a magnet tool. This is important as I don't my young children to step on a rusty nail. We now have a roof that will last 30 years. Thanks, Ivan read more

Our wall had a big bubble filled with water after the rain and we didn't know where the leak was coming from. We called one guy to check out the leak and they were going to charge us over 3k. We then called Ivan at Modern Roofing to come check out our roof. They came the same day and gave us a quote which was 3 times less than the previous guy. They spotted the issue very quickly and sent pictures to me. They came the next day to fix our chimney leak. They fixed the chimney base and sealed some cracks around the chimney. It has been a couple of weeks and days of heavy rain, and the leak stopped. We're glad that we went with Modern Roofing and their service was fast and effective. They also texted us the work that was done. read more

Ivan and his roofer helped me solve a need to repair the flooring of my balcony. My house balcony needed repair (water leaked into the garage). Peninsula Roofing helped by applying bitumin and replaced the drain on the balcony floor (similar to treating a roof) and it appeared to solve the leak - it's not currently raining but I hosed water up to the balcony and the water flowed well through the drain. No symptom of a leak from this test. Ivan was courteous and I appreciated the additional follow up he provided as there was a need for an additional coat of paint and he took care of it. As with contractors I've worked with in the past, the occasional follow up call or reminder may be needed for scheduling the work, but Ivan and Peninsula Roofing did come through on their work - thank you. read more

Great service and very reactive. Ivan came out and gave me an estimate within a few days of me reaching out. The work was done a few weeks later, and was done on time with little to no disturbance to me. Ivan was really good about explaining the pros and cons of various approaches, as well as what would be done. His team was also very meticulous about the clean-up. I will need to see how things hold up in the winter once it starts raining, but so far so good! read more

Ivan and his team are the best! He is recommended to me by my realtor because I needed to replace my roof and Ivan and his team did a fantastic job! Ivan's team showed up on time and they are very courteous. He sent me a team of 7 people to make sure we can get the job done in less than 2 days before the heavy rain starts to come. Not only did his team replace my roof, but they also replaced my old air vent and drip edge flashings. They use quality materials and clean up well after the project. They also made sure the gutter is clean and free of any debris. Ivan is fair, honest, responsive and his fees are very reasonable. I highly recommend Modern Roofing! We are thankful to Ivan and his crew for re-roofing our house in Berkeley. Ivan answered all our questions about different options patiently in advance of the work, provided a reasonable quote, and coordinated all the permit process with City of Berkeley. They were also flexible with payment options. I will recommend Modern Roofing to any of my friends looking for roof replacement. read more

Ivan and his team do good work. My property had a roof that was at least 25 years old and in need of a new one. Ivan used the best materials, including Certainteed 30 year shingles. I'm pretty detail oriented and climbed up the scaffold to make sure there were no shortcuts, and I was impressed with the crew and the quality of their work. The new roof looks great, and the project went smoothly. Ivan is professional, makes sure all the work is done the right way, and worked hard to make sure I was happy with the new roof. read more

BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! WARRINTY MEANS NOTHING TO THEM!!!!! This company was once called Peninsula Roofing and changed their name to Modern Roofing (look back at the 2017 and before reviews for proof)! Their new website looks fancy but don't be fooled! I looked more into it and the company (Peninsula Roofing Gustavo Reyes) was sued which is why I think they're NOT bonded anymore (bonding company has secured money that is available to the consumer in the event they file a claim against the company) and they will NOT KEEP WARRINTY if there's a large leak, maybe a small one but not a large one... My ceiling has a very large water stain from their installation of the roof from about 5 years back now and every time it rains, water starts dripping into my house... I contacted them and Ivan came out to do a little caulking but once it started leaking again, he didn't want to come out or send someone over. There's a reason why roofing companies have warranties, it's to protect the consumer and because if they do a bad job, they have to fix it... In this case they won't... I now need to pay out of pocket for a different roofer to fix the problem.... On top of it all, my skylights aren't even sealed all the way around, sadly I didn't notice till the rain.... read more

I don't write very many reviews, but wanted to recognize Ivan for his outstanding service. Our 2 bathroom skylights were incorrectly installed a few years ago by someone who went MIA when we attempted to contact him for repairs. This led to major leaks in both of our upstairs bathrooms. I contacted a number of roofers in December, 3 of which never responded to my calls/emails, 1 responded only to say it would be several weeks before they could provide an estimate, and 1 gave us an estimate, but the cost to replace our skylights was quite high and they couldn't actually do the work for 4-6 weeks (and we're expecting several storms in the near future). Enter Ivan who replied to my email very quickly, was out within a few days to provide us with an estimate, quoted us half of what the other roofing company was going to charge, and said he could be out within a week to replace the skylights. I then contacted him again last Thursday evening (a day later) feeling a little nervous, since we were expecting rain the following Tuesday and our walls and ceilings were sustaining damage from the leaks. Ivan replied immediately and said he would purchase new skylights the next morning and would be out on Monday before the rain hit to replace them. Sure enough, first thing Monday morning he was here with his crew and they were done within 3 hours! The new skylights look great, and the best part is that they never had to enter our home, which is great given COVID concerns these days (the other roofer who gave us a quote spent a while inside of our place). I'll update the review with how they hold up once we've been through a few rain storms, but for now, I'm extremely satisfied with Ivan and Modern Roofing (formerly Peninsula Roofing), and very grateful that he was able to replace my skylights on such short notice. 01/29 Update: After several days of heavy rain, our skylights remain leak free. Ivan even followed up with me to make sure they were holding up okay. Fantastic customer service! read more

I highly recommend Peninsula Roofing. We moved into our house 2 years ago and it has two roofs that are 20 year old. The sloped roof is still in good condition, but the flat roof was developing water pockets and we had a small leak start in our living room. Ivan came within a day to inspect the problem, whereas all other roofing companies we contacted weren't able to come within a week. Ivan and his professional crew replaced our flat roof within a week at a very reasonable cost. It was easy to communicate with them, and Ivan was available and discussed the process throughout the repair. Ivan also recognized a few problems in our roof with a rusty metal plate in our chimney and a rusty side panel near our sloped roof. He fixed both of those issues. Finally, we were aware that we needed to redo the caulking and painting of our South-facing exterior. Previous quotes we're very unreasonable. Ivan connected us with another team that repainted and caulked the entire side of the house. Super helpful! read more

Ivan and the team did a great job on my roof. We were able to get the work done right before the storms started, so I'm grateful he was able to fit me in during his busy season. You do have to be patient about having questions answered on-line--I assume because he's often out in the field. I think when it comes to home repair during these boom times, it's important to remember that the best people are going to be super busy--that's because they have great word of mouth. Also, some independently owned companies don't have a staff waiting for your call the way that many corporate companies have answering services. The work was done very recently so I'm reserving my final star after I see how we do this winter. However, I do think Peninsula is a great company. read more

****WARNING UNLICENSED CONTRACTOR **** This company has been fraudulently using another valid contractor license number without them knowing. Ivan gave me a proposal which I approved, but when the permit was pulled it listed a different contractor name. When I asked him about it, he said the owners of the two companies were brothers... strange right, so I called the other contractor to confirm this story. When I spoke with the staff at the roofing company who's name was on my permit, they were confused and said there is NO WAY that is possible. The owners are NOT related and they have never heard of Peninsula Roofing or Ivan. Turns out Peninsula Roofing was using there license fraudulently for some time as there was a long list of other permits pulled that they didn't know about. I can't believe there are contractors that would advertise for services with NO LICENSE!!!! There website lists no license # and no license # on yelp. Stay away from this company. read more
