I have had a leak in my bedroom ceiling for three years, my contractor kept trying to find the cause. Enough! I started calling roofing companies for estimates. Tragically, the entire roof had to be replaced. I went with Modern Roofing, because they were the only ones who went into my attic space to see if there was any sign of trouble/damage. The cost was a little lower, and they give you a 20% discount if the wood framing has to be replaced. Unfortunately, all of the roof had to go. The 20% discount is higher than you will get from other companies. Also, a 50 year warranty on materials, with sliding scale for labor. But the best part of this experience, was having Mena as project manager. He would immediately respond to my texts/calls, answer all of my questions, put any worries to bed, and was so pleasant through the entire process. I appreciate him so much! The work crew was friendly and really cleaned up after they were done. It was a little stressful for me at times, but Mena checked in each day, and that was a relief. It is a scam. The sales man showed 1/2 hour early, and the first thing he does he looks through my Garage door . Once at the door, he insisted to see inside of my house to see the condition of roof from inside a two story house!! Which was totally bogus, he just wanted to see how we live so he can decide how to give us a quote. His lowest quote for cheapest material was 125K and 348K for metal roof !!! WTF He did not give me any paperwork, just wrote the quote on a piece of paper, and told me to take picture. He could not give me itemized quote, he just pulled these number after playing with his phone calculator. I wasted two hours of life. read more

Modern Roofing had Sam coordinate everything for our new roof. Out of 9 companies Sam was one of 2 to give us a complete statement of work detailing everything to be done to rip off the old cement tile roof and replace it with composition shingle. Everything was explained before any work started. Whenever we had any questions Sam showed up to address our concerns, spoke to his crew and explained things. When the previous underlayment had to be replaced, we both inspected the roof and Sam explained why and what had to be replaced which resulted in an additional cost. Sam also had a different crew come out to remove the old insulation, clean up and disinfect the attic, install new insulation and put stainless steel mesh on the inside of all the vents to prevent any rodents from getting into the attic. There was the final inspection for everything. The quality of the materials and work was outstanding. Of course like everything else the cost was higher than it would have been before 2019 but it was worth it. We got a great result and value for what we paid for. The crew cleaned up at the end of each day. As a result, the house is staying between 12-18 degrees cooler than the outside and is saving on both our heating and cooling costs. When it rains, we do not even hear the rain falling on the roof. It is that quiet. Sam did a great job in keeping us informed on the progress, managing his crew,and writing up a great statement of work. In January 2019, we had a big storm in San Francisco. We encountered a leak in our garage bathroom. Our wall had a big bubble filled with water after the rain and we didn't know where the leak was coming from. We called one guy to check out the leak and they were going to charge us over 3k. We then called Ivan at Modern Roofing to come check out our roof. They came the same day and gave us a quote which was 3 times less than the previous guy. They spotted the issue very quickly and sent pictures to me. They came the next day to fix our chimney leak. They fixed the chimney base and sealed some cracks around the chimney. It has been a couple of weeks and days of heavy rain, and the leak stopped. We're glad that we went with Modern Roofing and their service was fast and effective. Ivan and his roofer helped me solve a need to repair the flooring of my balcony. My house balcony needed repair (water leaked into the garage). Peninsula Roofing helped by applying bitumin and replaced the drain on the balcony floor (similar to treating a roof) and it appeared to solve the leak - it's not currently raining but I hosed water up to the balcony and the water flowed well through the drain. No symptom of a leak from this test. Ivan was courteous and I appreciated the additional follow up he provided as there was a need for an additional coat of paint and he took care of it. As with contractors I've worked with in the past, the occasional follow up call or reminder may be needed for scheduling the work, but Ivan and Peninsula Roofing did come through on their work - thank you. read more

BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! WARRINTY MEANS NOTHING TO THEM!!!!! This company was once called Peninsula Roofing and changed their name to Modern Roofing (look back at the 2017 and before reviews for proof)! Their new website looks fancy but don't be fooled! I looked more into it and the company (Peninsula Roofing Gustavo Reyes) was sued which is why I think they're NOT bonded anymore (bonding company has secured money that is available to the consumer in the event they file a claim against the company) and they will NOT KEEP WARRINTY if there's a large leak, maybe a small one but not a large one... My ceiling has a very large water stain from their installation of the roof from about 5 years back now and every time it rains, water starts dripping into my house... I contacted them and Ivan came out to do a little caulking but once it started leaking again, he didn't want to come out or send someone over. There's a reason why roofing companies have warranties, it's to protect the consumer and because if they do a bad job, they have to fix it... In this case they won't... I now need to pay out of pocket for a different roofer to fix the problem.... On top of it all, my skylights aren't even sealed all the way around, sadly I didn't notice till the rain.... read more

I don't write very many reviews, but wanted to recognize Ivan for his outstanding service. Our 2 bathroom skylights were incorrectly installed a few years ago by someone who went MIA when we attempted to contact him for repairs. This led to major leaks in both of our upstairs bathrooms. I contacted a number of roofers in December, 3 of which never responded to my calls/emails, 1 responded only to say it would be several weeks before they could provide an estimate, and 1 gave us an estimate, but the cost to replace our skylights was quite high and they couldn't actually do the work for 4-6 weeks (and we're expecting several storms in the near future). Enter Ivan who replied to my email very quickly, was out within a few days to provide us with an estimate, quoted us half of what the other roofing company was going to charge, and said he could be out within a week to replace the skylights. I then contacted him again last Thursday evening (a day later) feeling a little nervous, since we were expecting rain the following Tuesday and our walls and ceilings were sustaining damage from the leaks. Ivan replied immediately and said he would purchase new skylights the next morning and would be out on Monday before the rain hit to replace them. Sure enough, first thing Monday morning he was here with his crew and they were done within 3 hours! The new skylights look great, and the best part is that they never had to enter our home, which is great given COVID concerns these days (the other roofer who gave us a quote spent a while inside of our place). I'll update the review with how they hold up once we've been through a few rain storms, but for now, I'm extremely satisfied with Ivan and Modern Roofing (formerly Peninsula Roofing), and very grateful that he was able to replace my skylights on such short notice. 01/29 Update: After several days of heavy rain, our skylights remain leak free. I highly recommend Peninsula Roofing. We moved into our house 2 years ago and it has two roofs that are 20 year old. The sloped roof is still in good condition, but the flat roof was developing water pockets and we had a small leak start in our living room. Ivan came within a day to inspect the problem, whereas all other roofing companies we contacted weren't able to come within a week. Ivan and his professional crew replaced our flat roof within a week at a very reasonable cost. It was easy to communicate with them, and Ivan was available and discussed the process throughout the repair. Ivan also recognized a few problems in our roof with a rusty metal plate in our chimney and a rusty side panel near our sloped roof. He fixed both of those issues. Finally, we were aware that we needed to redo the caulking and painting of our South-facing exterior. Previous quotes we're very unreasonable. You do have to be patient about having questions answered on-line--I assume because he's often out in the field. I think when it comes to home repair during these boom times, it's important to remember that the best people are going to be super busy--that's because they have great word of mouth. Also, some independently owned companies don't have a staff waiting for your call the way that many corporate companies have answering services. ****WARNING UNLICENSED CONTRACTOR **** This company has been fraudulently using another valid contractor license number without them knowing. Ivan gave me a proposal which I approved, but when the permit was pulled it listed a different contractor name. When I asked him about it, he said the owners of the two companies were brothers... strange right, so I called the other contractor to confirm this story. When I spoke with the staff at the roofing company who's name was on my permit, they were confused and said there is NO WAY that is possible. The owners are NOT related and they have never heard of Peninsula Roofing or Ivan. Turns out Peninsula Roofing was using there license fraudulently for some time as there was a long list of other permits pulled that they didn't know about. I can't believe there are contractors that would advertise for services with NO LICENSE!!!! There website lists no license # and no license # on yelp. Stay away from this company. read more
