We had our 23 year old flat modified bitumen roof replaced for our single family home in Potrero…read moreHill in San Francisco 2 months ago and we were happy with the results. I got 7 quotes from various roofing companies. Alex, our estimator, gave us a reasonable quote and brought up all the issues, edge-cases etc that some of the other estimators did. We had 11 solar panels on the roof that would've required removal. The panels were installed with approx 1-2 ft of ground clearance. CFY's crew found a way to remove and install the roofing material with the solar panels on, which saved us a couple thousand dollars. Before the installation began, I did a lot of research (with AI) on the kinds of issues to look for during the replacement, what's good material vs not, etc. I'm generally a stickler for details. When the roof was removed, we discovered that the wooden slats below it were original to the house (1939) and were mostly rotting. There was also no plywood under the roof which is another requirement to ensure longevity of the roof. We worked out a price for the additional labor and materials to replace most of the wooden slats and install the plywood. The workers were courteous, answered multiple questions I had for them throughout the day (both in English and my intermediate Spanish), and made sure the job site was clean at the end of the day. They sent cleaners out each day! We had a electric heat pump installed at the same time and the condenser needed to be installed on the finished roof. They helped the HVAC installer bring the condenser unit up to the roof, which was nice of them. The entire reroof took approx 1 week. We ended up with a new 2-ply modified bitumen roof that seems like it'll hold up against the elements. Only time will tell, though. The post-service cleaning, through M&M cleaning, was wonderful! They happily did a bunch of extras for us (garage clean up etc) at no additional cost.

I asked, and CFY accommodated, two relatively light-lifting tasks (repainting part of a gutter that was scratched by a different contractor, and weathersealing a second-story window). Scheduling was easy, and Jose and his team were here for half a day. They also cleared the cobwebs that were accumulating on the front of the house without prompting. In short, CFY was communicative, accommodating, and proactive about clarifying the additional work. They sent before and after photos. I hope to not need roof work in the future, but if I do, I will definitely reach out to CFY first.

Cal-Pac is amazing, the quality of work is outstanding and their expertise is unmatched…read more We've worked with them for a while; they were one of the few roofing companies we reached out to that were willing to do repairs (on a roof they didn't build). They replaced an old skylight, removed our old chimney, and added a gutter to the back. We were really happy with the quality of the work and the price. When it came time to do a full roof replacement, they were the first place we called. And to be honest, they weren't the cheapest but we still went with them given our prior experience and the fact they would handle re-mounting our solar system directly. We worked mostly with Brian and Earl, both great guys and incredibly experienced. We had a lot of dry rot issues on our joists and their carpenter did a fantastic job (photos attached). The roof came out better than expected, it looks so clean and makes the entire house look better. We were also impressed with their thorough cleanup of the site each day, the attention to detail (even caulking around the replaced joists for us), and going the extra mile to replace a ceiling panel that was damaged when the old roof was torn off. They do most things by phone and don't use any fancy appointment systems, but if you want a roof done the right way by the most experienced people, Cal-Pac is the one you want. Loved working with them and would recommend to anyone!

I don't often compliment contractors because there are usually irritations and/or misunderstandings that come up. Not in this case - Brian, Earl and Edwardo always responded directly to the many issues raised. Your entire team deserves a shout-out for the professionalism they exhibited during the entire project. Starting on-time, moving about expeditiously, mindful of the occupants, careful of the debris being created, and finishing each day with an eye to clearing the property and always leaving it neat and orderly. I will happily provide my highest recommendation to any potential client you may have. Sincerely, Ron Schmidt

The storms in Jan. and Feb. caused severe damage to my roof. I called a roofing co. that was…read morerecommended to me and I felt he was too pushy and expensive. I saw a Manchu Picchu truck and I gave them a call. Alfonso came to give me an estimate. We talked for a short time and even before he quoted his price, which was very reasonable, I knew the job was his. He is a very personable, professionable, and confident person. The contract was printed and hand delivered the next day. I went to their office to expedite the project. Jenny and her staff were pleasant and accommodating. They made arrangements for permits and gave me a starting date. When that day came the crew arrived at 7:30 am, worked through the day, stopping only for lunch. Jenny and Alfonso came by to see if all was going ok and Jenny checked in at least once a day though out the project. She like Alfonso, her Dad, is very likeable, intelligent and confident at what they do. The project took 4 days and during that time the crew did some work, on their own, that was not included in the contract. The crew cleaned up after each day and when the project was finished, except for the new roof, you would never know they were ever here. A family run business that works hard and enjoys what they do. Thank you for your service and a job well done. Frank

I can't say enough good things about Machu Picchu Roofing! From start to finish, the entire team…read morewas incredibly professional, flexible, and a joy to work with. They truly go above and beyond to meet customer needs and schedules, and you can tell right away this is a dependable, family-owned business that takes pride in their work. Jen, Melissa, and Alex in the office made the process smooth and stress-free, and Alfonso (the owner) and his crew were outstanding. The installation itself was flawless--completed in just one day! The crew worked with great attention to detail and even showed patience and flexibility when I made a last-minute change to upgrade the downspouts from corrugated to flat. They also helped me choose and install the right O'Hagin vents to accommodate future solar panels, and added a chimney cap for my closed chimney--details that really show how much they care about long-term solutions, not just finishing the job. One part of my project included a tricky ridge on my addition, and instead of just "making it work," Alfonso personally came out to meet with my framing crew to discuss the best solution. That kind of collaboration and commitment is rare, and I'm so grateful for it. And on top of all this, I can't believe how competitive their pricing is given the extremely high quality of service and workmanship. I feel incredibly lucky to have found Machu Picchu Roofing through a referral. If you're looking for a roofing company that is reliable, detail-oriented, and truly cares about its customers, look no further--you won't be disappointed.

They were incredibly thorough. They ran multiple flood tests and found nothing wrong with the roof itself. Follow-up spray tests traced the leak to where the roof meets the siding. The siding had been replaced by a different contractor after the roof went in, and that connection wasn't done the way the roofers had recommended, yet they still ended up replacing almost the entire roof under warranty. I honestly can't think of many roofers who would do that. Most would have pointed to the siding and moved on. They worked closely with a siding contractor I brought in to fix it, and the two of them problem-solved together really well until the issue was fully resolved. These guys do great work, show up on time, and keep showing up until the job is done. I couldn't recommend them more, and I'll be using them for all future roofing work in the city.

Not a bad result in the end, but had a few problems getting there…read more When I bought this house recently, my window sill a was covered with some kind of spongy caulk-like material, and it was deterioraing. I was looking for someone who could rebuild the sill before I went out of town for two weeks. EM came out quick and got to work. One of the workers asked if they could use metal on the sides of the work area instead of stucco because the sides were also composed of the same caulk-like material. Based on that, I said ok. This was on a Friday and they said they would be back on Monday to finish the job. When I arrived back from vacation two weeks later, the job was unfinished and leaking. It took another two weeks to get them back out to finish, even after letting them know it was leaking. They didn't cover the area so I had to go on the roof and put a tarp over it. They also left the window trim sitting on the sill soaking wet. Later after reviewing the before photos and talking to my other contractor I found out that that the sides were indeed stucco. I feel like they mislead me to take a shortcut, despite our contract stating the sides would be stucco.

Randy makes himself available and was easy to reach by email and phone. He gave us updates and progress reports in a timely manner. We felt the price was very reasonable and fair. He is also very knowledgeable. A previous contractor installed a poorly-performing bathroom vent, which was flapping and making too much noise in our windy area. He changed it to a better-performing vent without extra cost, and now, we can sleep without vent noise. They also thoroughly cleaned our house and yard after their work was complete. And they didn't use our trash can at all. (It's the little things, you know?). The new vents look great! A+, would work with them again.

I had a great experience with Coz regarding him putting in a bid to repair/replace our roof…read more After finding a leak in our roof I went through and contacted a contractor I found through looking for recommendations on Nextdoor. After they looked at our roof on Google Maps they told us the pitch was too steep for them, and provided a list of three contractors to call, with C&J on that list. Of the three C&J, and Coz specifically, were the most knowledgeable. Without prompting, by just looking at a satellite photo he was able to accurately guess the two spots on the roof where we had a current leak and problems in the past. He provided a realistic timeline for when he'd be able to make a basic repair, and also come out to fully replace the roof (it's about 30 years old...it's time). On the fly he then estimated what the cost of replacement would be, and it came in pretty much exactly where other contractors landed later. The guy clearly knows what he is doing, and understands the conditions and housing stock in the Bay Area. While he suggested that he was busy at the time (it's the start of the rainy season...pretty much every roofer is working during the full daylight hours right now) he checked in with me a week after our initial call to make sure I was being taken care of. At this point it looks like I am likely going to go with another contractor who is a sub for a GC I have working on other parts of my house, but even when I gave Coz this news he was thoughtful enough to provide me suggestions I should provide the other guy to make sure I get the job done right. If something should fall through with the other contractor I wouldn't hesitate to call C&J and schedule their team to come out.

My complaint is that they charge an additional $250 if you want before or after photos and the quote specifically states they do not guarantee their work. So I got a quote to fix some damage they found, but if I wanted to see the damage or see how it was fixed, that would cost an additional $250, and I have no recourse if they do a poor job. When I asked them about the photos clause in email there was no response. When I called on the phone, the woman I spoke with was very rude. She told me it was the owner's rule and if I didn't like it then I should go with someone else. So I did.
