Saber Roofing owner Ryan Saber gave my home's roof a very thorough estimate with a clear, specific contract. I trusted his work and his company name was referred by a reputable contractor. Saber Roofing did an excellent job!  Ryan explained my roof-tile options and had great links to what they look like on real houses through his website.His site also provided information about the roofing process and materials. I waited for his service through winter rain & my own scheduling limitations, and it was more than worth the wait. Ryan's crew were professional, kept the site clean, repaired some rot of my 26-yr-old roof, installing new roof vents that only his company had recommended for safety & energy savings. I had asked for certain areas to be sealed well, preventing any  "creatures' " entrance that he'd agreed needed to be professionally corrected, which his crew did very thoroughly.  Ryan was available throughout the process and got back to me immediately with any questions I had. The contract added the plywood replacement  for the rotted areas, all clearly noted and within the price frame in the contract for unknown rot once the old roof was removed. The total payment was understandable & reasonable. The roof looks great, their guarantee also great. I contacted several roofing and gutter companies to get estimates for a few projects. I am very happy that I chose Saber Roofing for plenty of reasons. 1) The owner, Ryan, met with me to discuss the work and was very thorough and helpful in answering all my questions. 2) Important details were covered including adding a rain chain in a location where a downspout would have been unsightly (picture attached). Among the details, the rain chain is made of copper while the gutter is made of aluminum. Having these two metals come in contact could compromise the aluminum over time. So, Saber installed the copper rain chain with a protective barrier. 3) Their client service and sales director, Jake, was super helpful and extremely responsive to all my questions. 4) The crew was very efficient, provided high quality workmanship, and left the site spotless. 5) The gutter guards that were installed provide a really fine barrier to prevent even small debris from entering my gutters, but are easy to rinse so that fine particles can be washed through the gutters. 6) The two downspouts that were installed were matched to the color of our trim. Other companies offer limited colors or simply white downspouts, but Saber offers a wide variety. 7) Their pricing is very competitive. I had a very positive experience with Saber Roofing. I called for a quote on replacement of two of my six skylights, and within a couple days had a visit from Juan Godinez to look at these. He confirmed that the other four skylights were fine and did not need replacement, and gave me a good description of the options for the two replacement skylights. While he was here I asked him about another unrelated roof issue, and got some very helpful advice. I got the quote shortly after that visit. It took a couple months from then to get the skylights installed, since they were busy with other jobs, but that was okay with me since I felt good about choosing this company and was confident that they would do a good job. And they did...the skylights were installed a couple days ago and I'm really happy with these and with Saber. I would certainly recommend them. read more

Last spring I started looking for a roofing contractor to replace the roof and some skylights on my Victorian style house in Los Altos. My house has many roof surfaces on three levels. I wanted a team that could handle complexity. I saw that Saber roofing had good reviews and from the pictures on their site I saw that they had worked on complex roofs like mine. I met with Ryan Saber, and he clearly laid out his plan for replacing my roof. I liked his level of detail and that he offered, as part of the contract, an extended warranty on workmanship that was longer than any of the other roofers who made bids. I signed with them, and I gave them two calendar windows in the summer for doing the work. They called me at the beginning of the second window to schedule. The team showed up when they said they would, they worked hard for two weeks and they finished on schedule. At the end of each day they picked up any significant debris they created that day. The foreman, Juan, came to the property each day and would discuss the progress made that day with me if I was home and send me an email and pictures if I wasn't there. He explained what they had done and what they were going to do the next day. There were no surprises. Juan told me that many members of the installation team had been with the company for years. It showed. The team seemed to enjoy their work. They found some rotten wood and replaced it. They also made several improvements to my roof by adding additional flashings to divert water and by the use of new ventilation holes and ridge caps to help moisture escape. I had not specifically asked for these, but I was very pleased that they made these improvements. They also replaced eight skylights with much more modern skylights. The new skylights that have greatly improved the rooms on which they were installed. They found some hidden damage earlier roofers had ignored and went to great effort in making it right. After some bad experiences with contractors in the past couple of years, it was important to me to hire a company that employed professionals, produced good quality work and met their commitments. Saber Roofing did an excellent job replacing my old skylights with new Velux units. They were very responsive during the selection phase and professional in presenting all Velux options compatible with my existing roof, curbs, and flashings--even before I signed the contract (thank you, Jake!). Measurements were taken precisely for three standard and two custom sizes, and the new skylights fit perfectly into the old curbs. One skylight arrived damaged during transport (not Saber's fault), but their crew installed the other four right away and returned promptly a week later to complete the job. Communication was excellent throughout, and the installation team was professional, respectful, and efficient. Given such great service, I was pleasantly surprised by how competitive Saber's pricing was. Another roofer hired by my HOA for our complex's re-roofing project -- where skylights were optional -- quoted significantly more for the same skylight work. Highly recommend Saber Roofing after working with Ryan and team for a roof replacement and solar panel plus powerwall install (via RM Energy who Ryan is also part of). Info and pricing was all very clear with strong warranty and excellent track record. The solar division was a big selling point as well so i could have the two co-ordinated which was a massive help. Also want to highlight Juan the general manager who came out to inspect our roof originally and gave me an honest opinion that roof still had at least another 5 - 10 years left based on current condition. Really appreciated his honesty even though we decided to go ahead with a replacement as we wanted to get the solar panels up by end of year to take advantage of tax cuts. Install team did a great job, was all done in a couple of days and they left the yard and driveway completely clear of debris and nails. I agree with the previous reviewer who suggested 10 stars for Saber Roofing, if only it were allowed. We needed to replace our shake roof with shingles, and had done some research into the issues that this entails (installing plywood over the entire roof and providing good ventilation to avoid the second story of our home from getting too warm). We requested several bids and discussed options with several top-rated companies. Ryan, the owner of Saber, immediately impressed me as being experienced, thoughtful in his recommendations about ventilation and other issues, and Saber's bid came in around the middle of those we received. A good friend's neighbor also recommended them, so we were set. Scheduling was straightforward, communication with us was timely, and when an unexpected opening came up, our job began. I cannot write enough good things about the work itself. Juan, the job foreman, spoke with me every day, showing photos of the work from tear-out to finished job. As Ryan suspected, they found some serious damage from an improperly installed renovation and partial re-roofing from 20 years ago. Thus, we were prepared for the need for extra work, and the extra expense. Juan walked me through their plans to repair the rotted wood (replace when necessary, bolster when feasible), provided pictures each day of their progress, and an accounting of the man-hours worked. He readily answered all questions. Jake in their office, provided spreadsheets of multiple prior jobs, arranged by location, and as we narrowed down our choice of shingles, provided updated spreadsheets by color and style. We asked a bunch of questions and all were answered completely. Samples were dropped off as soon as we narrowed down to our final color and style choices. The final job is wonderful. We were worried about the change from wooden shakes to shingles, but the work was so perfectly done that we are totally pleased with the look. You can tell by looking at the detail around flashings, ridges, and corners, where everything is integrated together perfectly. We also replaced our gutters, but not downspouts, and the new ones also look fantastic. Again, the work was carefully done, so no areas of bent metal or slightly mis-matched joints. Called Saber Roofing to address a leak in the attic that was noticed as we were getting our HVAC fixed. I had to wait 2 weeks before someone could come out but it was worth the wait! I was greeted by Ryan Saber who took a look at my roof despite it raining outside. He was able to patch up a small void where water could get into the attic and let me know that my roof shingles should be checked in a few years as well as some rotting wood on the roof that I should get removed at some point by myself or by a handyman. Some greedy contractors sent my 84 year old mom off on a goose chase thinking she needed to replace her roof. One of them even got a deposit out of her but couldn't figure out the Foster City and our HOA requirements. I came in a year later and decided we needed a second opinion. I'm glad I called Saber Roofing because as soon as he got out of the car he was telling me we didn't need a new roof. Imagine driving into a neighborhood of multi million dollar houses and talking yourself out of the job before you got on a ladder. That's how honest Mr. Saber is. Updating my review - Ryan got back to me as soon as he found out about the issue. He came the very next day, did a visual inspection from the outside, went up on the roof and inspected, and then went up in the attic space to see if he could find a leak. It had stopped raining so he wasn't able to see anything. He then scheduled a return visit during the next storm so he could re-assess. He thoroughly re-visited the attic space, took a full video and showed me that what another contractor had thought was water discoloration was really just natural differences in the wood color. No roof leak- yayy! And triple thanks to Ryan for being so responsive and being completely nice about having come out twice for a leak that was non-existent. Saber Roofing has saved us time and time again---once, before we were even a customer. Many years back, we had a leak from the roof during a sudden storm. They called us back mid-storm, and, from iPhone pics, were able to identify the problem being the edge of one of the skylights. When the storm abated, they came out an fixed the issue---for free. Flash forward 15 years, and we used them to make new rain gutters, extruding the aluminum in one piece, and adding appropriate wedge thingies to the roof to direct the water. They are perfect. Most recently, we used them again to completely reroof the main house, which has a slanted roof, and reroof the flat roof of the garage. I honestly can't say enough good things about the whole process----who knew there were so many options of roof shingles? Colors, shapes, types of material? As I commented to Ryan, this reminded me of planning my wedding: suddenly, I was caring about things I had never even thought of before, like napkin colors and salad plates. Anyway, I was able to take home multiple sample boards, and choose the one that suited our house the best. Similarly, the flat roof had many options, and we went with something different, but blending nicely with, the main house roof. The whole process went smoothly, and communication was great. We won't use anyone else, and neither will anyone else in our neighborhood. They're the best! read more

Saber Roofing has always been quick to respond for the many leaks that have kept popping up, especially during the storms we have had the past few years. Finally we reached the point where we decided to replace the entire roof, as much as we gagged at the idea. We have been stuck at home when there were storms because it always leaked somewhere new and we would need to set up buckets if we could - that's no way to live. We knew we were going with Saber because they have done such excellent work for us in the past - so we made our choices, went on their waiting list and finally, after one bad storm this last season in fall of 2024, they were able to replace the roof. They did an amazing job. They were there every day, cleaned up every evening, worked non-stop to get that roof up before the next big storm that was forecast, got it done in the nick of time - and for the first time in many, many years we have not had a leak in our roof. They discovered most of the prior roof had been installed without any tar-paper under the tiles and there were holes in the plywood that goes under the roof tiles that were almost 8" around, for the roof rats and whatever else to get into out attic. The old roof was horrific. The replaced so much wood, put on new, good tar-paper (or whatever it is called) ...... and did their thing. We are ecstatic. When they were done, I asked Juan when we should have the roof checked next and he told me, with a wink and a smile, "25 years". I will miss Ryan and his crew - they are amazing. read more

Ryan is super personable and extremely knowledgeable. I appreciate his attention to detail. When I reached out to his company over Yelp, I wrote a blurb about what our concerns were. Ryan showed up fully prepped and I did not have to repeat myself which was refreshing. He jumped right in to explain the condition of our roof and gave us his expert opinions and suggestions. Throughout his time inspecting our roof, he also took a lot of pictures and used them to back up his claims. It was super easy to understand at that point and this presentation made us feel extremely at ease. Where appropriate, he always recommended ways to not do something and save money. We appreciated his honesty even if it meant potentially less business or things to do. As for scheduling - the initial appointment was very easy to schedule; the office assistant was kind and got us in as soon as possible. The timeline for fixes is a longer wait but Ryan made sure to set these expectations with us. They are extremely popular and good at their jobs, judging by the way he conducted the assessment, so I'm not even surprised. Saber Roofing replaced an old and defective skylight, re-roofed areas that were de-roofed for termite extermination, and examined the roof on my home and garage for needed repairs. They lifted up wisteria branches to examine the roof underneath them, and assessed every area. Jake worked to schedule the repairs in a timely manner. Meticulous clean up too.
