They are the best!! We bought our home in 1989 and discovered a leak in the roof. We had it repaired multiple times with no improvement and then had it replaced in the 2000's. It still leaked. These guys are great! We've never had roofing work done, and were complete novices, and Johnny and Dave were happy to answer a plethora of questions we had. Were they the cheapest? For the longest locally owned roofing business with great (i.e. recent and repeat customers') references, current license, bonding, and insurance - yes. Hard to get a quote or schedule them? Depends on the season but right now, I called 11 roofers to get 5 quotes in order to throw out 2 with the largest variance (some contractors are so busy right now that they'll do a weekend job at 2-3x market rate). Why pick Dave and American Eagle Roofing? Best customer service before, during, and after job completion. My framers had made some changes last minute, which added roofing scope but Dave rolled with the punches and kept me within budget. We've used Dave to help clients of ours get a new roof or just affect some repairs. My neighbor across the street got a roof from a fly-by-night group like a bunch of nomads who rolled into town, spent a week getting the roof up and when there were problems this company was nowhere to be found. American Eagle roofing on the other hand is fully licensed, bonded and insured. If a worker falls off of your roof--and they actually do quite often--without insurance they just might own your home. But the coolest things about Dave is his mobile showroom. You could eat off of the floor which tells me something about his fastidiousness. The guy is a total neat freak. He put on a roof next door to our home in three days. He called me at night to ask if there was any sign of rain while the roof was stripped off. I told him no but when I woke up he had come and out a tarp over the house anyway--said he couldn't sleep. However a friend of ours HIGHLY recommended them and so I did and was I glad I did so. Not only was Dave's bid the lowest (by a couple of thousand), he made himself available immediately in precious time since the rain were starting and able to complete the job in two days. By the third morning he was on the roof performing his quality check. And so in 5 days time from procurement we have a new roof - WOW! His workers were highly efficient, courteous, considerate and cleaned up the premises at the end of the day. I first came across American Eagle while searching the internet for a company to rebuild my roof on my first house back in 2012. I went to their facility to talk to the owner Dave. He took the time to give me a rundown on all the different services available. Dave scheduled an appointment to measure my roof and determine the condition and what needed to be done. Dave was helpful at selecting roofing material based on the climate where I live to get the most out of my roof. He had a appointments available immediately to get the job done. His work crew did the job in just under three days which included replacing water damaged plywood in many areas. The roof looks phenomenal and I've had no issues. Fast forward 2 2020 and we were in need of a roof for my mother's house. Based on previous experience I called Dave to get an estimate along with two other companies. American Eagle came in with the best price and had immediate appointments while the other companies were two to three months out. The crew came in and 3 days later I had a brand new roof which again included some wood replacement. Another great job done and the crew again was very polite as well. Although I stand by the previous review about the major lack of communication, I must compliment them on great workmanship, wonderful considerate workers that do a fantastic cleanup every night, Our roof is looking great. Two weeks after my re-roof was completed, it rained...for two days...from a light trickle to a full down pour and no leaks...whew! My first meeting with Mr. David Helgoth, of American Eagle Roofing, was relaxing and thorough. He was the 5th roofer I called after starting with neighbor/friend references and then researched Yelp. All roofer reps were friendly and informative. With Dave, his first visit included one extra thing...showing material samples of composition tile and a short section of rain gutter that he carries in his truck. He is also a good listener. His office is close to my residence which helped me feel more..."secure"...with them. That's not to say you should find someone geographically close to your residence but, that helped me. After I visited their office and met Rene' (their office manager who was very busy at the time), she took the time to be personable. Prior to the visit, I called ahead to make sure she'd be in but, she was still very busy when I arrived. During my conversation with Rene', I sensed to move forward with them and get the job scheduled. Their scheduling board was filling up while weather reports predicted unfriendly weather. I learned that after you decide on a roofer and delay getting it scheduled, you risk loosing a "week of time" on their schedule, especially when weather could be an issue. Dave's contract was itemized, e-z to read, competitively priced and his team worked well together. His foreman was very e-z to talk to and informative. The only gray area was their clean-up, after the old tar/gravel tear off was completed. After they left, I picked up a few nails and small bits of tar paper off the lawn but, overall, they did a good job cleaning up. B.T.W. We could not be happier with our experience with owner Dave at American Eagle Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. From start to finish, the team did a wonderful job helping to plan and install our new roof. Renee (who manages the office) is an excellent communicator, and helped with everything from selecting roofing material in their showroom to coordinating start time of the job and city inspections. Dave worked with us to diagnose the initial problem (water damage to our living room wall) and to select the best tile material: quality and price for the job, keeping in mind the style of our house. He also taught us about the importance of a good gutter system, and their part in keeping roofs healthy. His team was meticulous: always arriving on time, cleaned up each day that they were here, and were very polite. This job was in no way rushed, with much attention to all of the details. There craftsmanship is excellent; they really take pride in their work. And Dave was on site all the time, communicating with us throughout and overseeing the project. Having just had a very unfortunate experience with our kitchen contractor, working with the team at American Eagle was a breath of fresh air. I only hire first class contractors and Dave and his crew were first class. They came highly recommended from my neighbor, who is as picky as I am, and they did not let me down. I knew from day one that I would like this group because the first thing they did was set up two debris areas. Before they even started dismantling the roof, they were already planning to keep the place clean. What's more, on top of that, they swept at the end of each day. I met with Dave and Johnny his foreman twice before awarding the job. They walked me through all aspects of how the job would be handled. He showed me the "peel and stick" underlayment and how it would attach the roof before replacing the tile. In other words, they showed me how the roof would be replaced and how it would be 100 times better than the old treatment. It took about a month to replace the roof because of the rains. They were on top of the weather. They always made sure the roof was protected before the rains came. They returned to the house during the rain to check the roof and make sure the everything was water tight. I like that. They finished to day and made sure that the area surround the house was clean. This company was recommended by my contractor but beware. They were supposed to come by twice for an estimate and both times cancelled. Then the third time they were a no show without even a phone call. I've been waiting a week now and still haven't heard from them. If you don't mind cancelled appointments and no shows then by all means call them but if it irritates you to be treated like that then use someone else like I will. read more

I give American Eagle three stars, I liked the composition shingle roof they did, but not their business practices and poor communication. First I was asked to pay more of a deposit then California allows contractors to charge (the law is: 10% or a $1,000-which ever is less). 10% was less then a $1,000-but I was asked to pay $1,000. It wasn't that big of an issue to me-I wanted the job done. However, during the job without getting approval from me-a change was made and $400 added to the total! Zero communication. My fence had some minor damage, caused by workers-but they never fixed it although Dave promised he would. The crew tried to set up a microwave in the back yard (without ever asking) and had gone looking for an outlet-we have one and it is not working. No one asked where they should plug on. My wall near the back of my house was damaged and needed patching. They patched but never painted. My chimney needed painting over the new stucco and flashing-they never came back to do it and I had to pay a painter to do the painting. None of the damage done to my fence and or building (which looked like someone banged a tool into the stucco) was admitted by American Eagle-even though they knew what had happened-I found the problems and told Dave. Originally I had two roofs bid and then had an emergency and had to have one done right away. Later when I asked if doing the roofs separately would change the price much I was told it would not. I had to ask 4 times to get a separate bid. When it came in it was almost doubled and in a different material then originally quoted. The second roof is a tar and gravel shed roof -and bid as such the first time-yet later Dave wanted to install composition shingle on it and said to install a flat layment would require a fire permit and cost more-funny that was never discussed in the original bid. I thought about hiring them again and then decided not too-it was just too much trouble to work with them and I did not find them ethical. I have worked with several contractors who have done various jobs around my house and just not run into this sort of thing. If you use them-be aware that things may not go as planned and if they damage your property they most likely will give you lip service and that is about all. Be very careful about extra charges! read more
