Called out to inspect the roof of a house I was buying years ago. John went on the roof and emphatically said there were gaps in roof penetrations he could fit his hand into that needed fixing. Also said gutters needed cleaning. I bought the house and went on the roof myself. None of that was true. Hello! In my opinion, I have received the worst treatment and disrespect from the Hallmark Roofing Services, INC. I cannot express how displeased I am with this company and their behavior and complete lack of regard for others, their attitude has show me and they don't care what others think of them as long as they get the job done and get paid and get out. I will never recommend their services and will actively deter others from using them. Hallmark Roofing installed a new roof and gutters on our home about 17 years ago and we have been very pleased with their workmanship and materials. A few months ago we noticed a drip from the corner of one gutter and called Hallmark to ask for a gutter referral to do the repairs. John, the owner, responded right away and sent a man to inspect our problem. While he was here, he noticed a few minor issues with some roof flashing. They made an appointment and completed the work within one week. When we went to pay the bill, the owner said it was covered under our original roof warranty. I wanted to let everyone know what a great job Hallmark Roofing Services did for us at our home in San Carlos. We remodeled over 20 years and at that time Hallmark was the company to put on the new roof at that time. I recently noticed a small puddle in the garage and monitored it over a few rain storms. It was a leak and it looked like the outside utilities pool supporting the house and the roof line. The team from Hallmark was supposed to arrive on a Wednesday, which ended up being a rainy day. They still showed up, listened to what I had discovered with the puddles. They explained their next steps and I let them be. About 20 minutes later they came off the roof and closed up and explained where they repaired and what the condition was before the repair and how it should be good now. They told me I would receive a bill and to call if we have additional water leakage from this repair or any other leak. The roof has not leaked, and we have had some major storms since the repairs. It was so nice to deal with a professional company who provided a fair price, quick response and were reliable in when they arrived and the quality of the work. John from Hallmark did our roof back in 2003 . His crew did an awesome job for a fair price . I was installing solar and taking care of some ceiling electrical at the same time . He was very accommodating with my schedule . The work impeccable. Fast forward to couple years ago when I got rid of my direct t.v. Naturally the Direct t.v. installer did not probably chalk the penerations and some dry rot developed over my eaves . Well I finally contacted John and he happily came out to take a look . A small job .Two days later the same guy( Vatu I believe) who originally installed the roof came out to do the repair . The shingles matched perfectly. He also did an inspection on the roof while he was here .Other than applying a little sikaflex around a penatration both Vatu and John agreed there is a good amount of years left . Couple things. John and his company still going strong after all these years. His team intact. The rig Vatu showed up in was prepared for anything. Spending years in the trades myself this is something that stands out . It was really nice to touch base.Both of them remembered the job and we had a few laughs ..I couldn't be happier. Had hallmark out 2 times (in 3 years) for old shake roof tune up. 1st time, Water leak and sheetrock damage in one bathroom. Very expensive tune up at $1000.00. Didn't look like much was done but gave them benefit of the doubt. They advised time for a new roof, but we opted for the 1000.00 tune up, not fully trusting them yet. Second rainy season, leak in exact same spot. They pleaded the "you need a new roof" defense. I know I do, but for 1000. i expected one leak to be resolved. I'm giving them another chance, getting estimated for new roof before this coming rainy season read more

What Warranty??? Hallmark does not stand behind their work at all. Talked to John (the owner) about replacing some faulty sheet metal parts that didn't even last 1/3rd of the roof's life. The sheet metal rusted all the way through causing leaks. John told me he would fix his defective and incorrect work for $2,000. I have had other roofing companies inspect the defects and all have indicated that Hallmark should have weaved the valleys with shingles rather than use sheet metal. read more

Pretty disappointed. We had our roof done by hallmark almost 20 years ago and I remember calling to have them come out and check it probably 10 years in and got tired of no call back. Now one of the gutters seam is leaking. So I called and asked for someone to come out to check the roof in general aside from one specific area, and John came out and couldn't be bothered checking the roof. Strike one. Then I asked about some gutters and he said would write me an estimate I asked for approximate which he didn't want to do. His calculations on the spot were over $400 less than the written but what really upsets me is he didn't even bother to send the estimate out until a week after he came. We used them to do a (complicated) roof repair on our last house--they did fabulous work at a price so reasonable I wrote them a check for extra money. In a recently purchased house, one roofer said we needed a new roof. John said that was ridiculous and our current roof would last for more than a decade. We have them out each year to do small repairs, clean the gutters, and make sure everything is fine. I had a new roof installed a few years back by John who owns Hallmark Roofing. From the start John did exactly what he said he would do. They installed a complete new roof on my house in a timely fashion. We did have a problem with one of our skylights leaking, but called John he sent out his team and they took care of the issue fast and correctly. I have not had any issues since, until I notice our gutters were not draining properly. Again I called John and just like in the past he got his team out to my house solved the issue. It's easy to sell something, but where the real sale comes from is the service after the sale. This is where you can tell if you made the right decision. We replaced a broken skylight window using Hallmark Roofing. They did a great job wtih prompt service. It was just before Christmas and we were scheduled to be out of town for 2 weeks. Rather than wait until January to replace and run risk of water leaks in the meantime, John came by and installed while we were away so we came back to the work complete with no issues. Roof was done about 14 years ago. Recently, a leak was noted due to a construction error. It was repaired at no cost.

We have used Hallmark several times to repair an aging roof and they did a great job, where others had failed. Now it is time to actually replace the old roof and our first call was to Hallmark. John was out the next day and had an estimate to us by 5 p.m. We were promptly scheduled and John came out to go over our shingle choices to make sure that we were happy with them. The job was started and completed on time and the new roof looks great. Since our roof is very steep, Hallmark even left the temporary wood steps for another three weeks so that our painters could use them as they painted our house. They were out the next day, after the painters were done. They even cleaned up the old paint chips that our painters left on the roof. read more

The owner John is very friendly and professional. Hallmark Roofing put a brand new roof on our house in only 2 days. No mess left at all when it was done. I would recommend them to anyone wanting a new roof and his prices are very reasonable. My husband and I would use them again in a heartbeat. We had Hallmark replace our roof several years back and have been very pleased with the roof. Last week during one of the first heavy rains of the season, we encountered a leak in the laundry room area of our house. I called Hallmark first thing in the morning (8:30AM) and informed them of the problem. Because it was raining heavy at the time and a Friday morning, I expected that I would have to wait through a long weekend to have the problem looked at. hallmark roofing installed defective sheet metal valleys on our roof, which only lasted 1/3 of the roof's life, and the owner will not fix their mistakes. for consumer awareness , roofers are required to install sheet metal of the same quality for the roof's life . in short, hallmark should have installed sheet metal of a quality to outlast this 50 year warranted tar shingle. hallmark has refused to fix their mistakes and does not honor the implied warranty for their work. read more

We know the owner, John Applegate very well through some friends. His crew did an excellent job on our home, from estimate to clean up. We got composition shingles which last 50 years; how is that for a roofing material?! They did have a problem with their air compressor, causing them to use a smaller one, which delayed the work a day, but they were honest and apologetic about the problem. You cannot beat that. The only other problem that we ran into, was one of the gutters seems were coming lose. They promptly responded and re welded it to perfection. Kammy is very knowledgeable about materials, providing samples, and giving us a bunch of references (completed jobs to drive by, as opposed to just calling people.) Everyone was very nice, obviously loving what they do. John met with us the next day to go over the warranty, making sure that we understood it in Layman's terms. Of course, we also got new downspouts, which they spray painted black, which needless to say go along with our cream colored and white home, and red roof. Like they said, the new roof keeps the house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. For all of this, including labor, it was $12.000 for the good size house that we have. So, for great work, a professional crew, and reasonable prices, Hallmark Roofing cannot be beat. Keep up the good work John, Kammy, and crews.! read more
