We had to replace our entire roof on a Midcentury Modern House - which can be daunting as it needs to be done right due to potential drainage issues, ponding of water and other concerns that come with torch-down flat roofs of the era. Getting two new commercial roofs was a big deal for my partnership and there are lots of details which concerned us. We had a really good experience with Equinox. Our home is a ranch style house with a roof that was probably installed budget fashion before the house was sold in 2012. A recent leak in the roof prompted us to get it inspected and discover that it was basically finished. Equinox installed Owens Corning roofing material and replaced our old ventilation with a ridge vent system. Our project manager was Eli and he was very responsive throughout the whole process. He was upfront about the fact that we would likely need OSB over our 1956 redwood boards (and their gaps) and about what the cost for this would be. Throughout the install he kept us updated with a series of pictures from the roof about installation progress and things that were encountered (gaps and knot holes in the old boards). It was an expensive project, but in the end it was as quoted so at least we had no surprises. read more

In the first meeting Eli used a satellite device to measure the roof and even determine the angles between the valleys without having to go up on the roof. I was very impressed. Equinox completed our reroofing project in 5 days, exactly as promised. Very clean work: They used plastic sheets to cover the ground around the entire house when they demolished the old roof on the first day. They cleaned the ground and the garage every day. They even used magnets to pick up all the nails from the ground. They also touched up all the spots that needed paint. Our home's original tar and gravel roof needed to be replaced, and we reached out to Equinox because of their reviews and because our neighbor recommended them. Avi, our assigned project manager, was our point person throughout the whole process and was incredibly helpful and patient. We received quotes from Avi for a torch down roof (which looked similar to the TAG roof) and asphalt shingles. While the shingles came with a higher quote, it actually wasn't too much more than the torch down quote. The work was set to start roughly 3 weeks after we received the contract, and my wife and I were back & forth on the roofing materials the entire time. Avi was super patient with us throughout that timeframe, and answered any and all questions that we had regarding the work involved for both options. We ultimately landed on asphalt shingles for roughly 90% of our roof and torch down for a flat section a day before their team was set to start. Fortunately for us, Equinox was super flexible in letting us decide on materials right until the last minute. The work actually started about 10 days earlier than their estimated start date, and I think they finished everything in about half the estimated time! On the first day, they fully removed our old roofing material and hauled that away, applied the underlayment, and started some shingles. On day two, they finished roughly 50% of the work and installed gutters (from their on-site seamless gutter machine) and downspouts. They had to wait for the city inspector to approve their in-progress work was done correctly, but once that happened a few days later, the team completely finished the job by the end of the day. Our new roof looks incredible, and we're so glad we went with Equinox for the job! Highly recommend them if you're in need of a new roof. read more

The waterproof underlayer was 45 years old and didn't do its job. so I had to replace with the new peel and stick. Worker came on time every morning at 8 am and they protected area below the roof. EDIT: I am using a different Yelp account with different name so the business doesn't threaten me for the bad review. But even until now, what I have below is true. They don't take responsibility after they received their payments. They are absolutely the worst. They entice you with competitive or cheaper price, but you might as well pay something more so you can work with a team that actually takes responsibility. I did business with them seeing the ~5.0 stars review. If you are seeing this review, do not do business with them. The quality of the roof is OK. However, the roofers smoke while working, and damages your property around the house and will not fix it until you point it out (or fix it but with the cheapest possible way). They don't keep their promises. They charge you because they did not "understand" you and were not written in the contract using specific languages. Their warranty is worth nothing. If you report issues after paying them, they never call you back. read more

TL;DR - I'm glad I trusted Equinox rather than others. If you're getting bids for a large roof job, put them at the top of your call list. Longer: Unlike other home improvement vendors, you're only going to do a roof replacement every decade or longer (if you're fortunate). It's not like a stuck drain, or an AC outlet that trips a breaker. So getting estimates and weighing the options carefully is absolutely significant. I got three bids from vendors that Thumbtack recommended - Equinox was one of them. On Thumbtack, each had very high ratings. But on Yelp (and elsewhere) it was revealed that the other two had, shall we say, some questionable experiences reported. Equinox, on the other hand, had consistently exemplary ratings and detailed stories in most reviews to back it up. Although Equinox wasn't the least expensive quote, you want to trust you're going to be told the truth, the vendor is going to respond to questions/problems/requests, and most importantly (for a roofer) that there is a good chance they will be in business 10 years later to back up your warranty. There's no point having a 10 year roof warranty if the company has gone belly up. In the end, I selected Equinox. And I was not disappointed. My project manager, Doron, thoroughly explained every step and made sure I was fully informed at every step of the way. Job was done VERY quickly, and 100% professionally throughout. A collection of progress photos was sent to me at the conclusion of each day's work. Job is beautifully done, and all details handled perfectly. Working with Michael was hands down the best experience I've ever had with a contractor. He was incredibly responsive--always replying to my texts almost instantly--and consistently honest and reliable throughout the entire process. What truly set them apart was Michael's approachability and professionalism, which played a big role in our decision to go with Equinox. The project itself was impressively fast and smooth. The old roof was removed on day one, the new roof was completed by the end of day two, and the gutters were installed on day three. The speed and efficiency were outstanding! Even after the project was completed, Michael remained attentive. We had a minor issue with the gutter, and he promptly arranged for someone to come back and fix it without hesitation. That level of accountability is rare and much appreciated. Our roof replacement project was very complex, not only was the roof extremely steep, it was also an old roof with multiple layers of shingles and no plywood layer. tl;dr We were blessed to work with Eli - he is a fantastic and responsive project manager, sensitive to all concerns and requests, no matter how nuanced. Additionally, his team are extremely high quality, efficient, and clearly know what they're doing. I had a lot of anxiety around such a big investment, but now rest with more confidence that the investment was very much worth it, especially with a team like Equinox. --- After purchasing our first home, we were in the market to get our roof replaced as suggested by our realtor and inspector pre-purchase. We knew that it'd be a daunting project, and finding the right roofer felt like a very challenging task. We received a handful of quotes from roofing companies and contractors via Yelp and decided to entertain Equinox's inspection. That's when we met Eli. Eli was punctual, and even though his drone was down that day, he decided to get on the roof himself and inspect it up close. Eli then proceeded to present every step of the roof removal and installation process - he even brought samples of each of the materials that'll be used as well as example shingles to get a sense of color. I'm a very detail-oriented person and was pleased with Eli's level of depth in his explanation. He answered all of my questions (and I had many) and helped me build a sense of trust and confidence in their work. He then explained his findings that would make our project a bit more risky and challenging than others. We had: - 8 skylights - Exterior windows that wrap onto the roofline - Wood shake shingles underneath our asphalt shingles (both of which needed to be removed to be up to code) - Areas that needed flashing replaced or newly added to completely prevent any water intrusion Despite these nuances and their extreme detail, their bid still remained extremely competitive to other offers we've seen. On top of that, their accreditations helped give me peace of mind knowing that even when the job is done, we're protected by their great workmanship warranty and manufacturer warranty as they are platinum preferred contractors with Owens Corning. So we said yes. Fast forward to project start... The entirety of the work took only 3 days. Here's how it went down: Day 1: full demo of both layers of old roofing material, begin installation of needed plywood Day 2: Finish installation of plywood, delivery of roofing materials, and begin installation of new flashing around skylights Day 3: Finish replacing and adding new flashing around skylights and walls, finish installation of the the whole roof and painting flashing to match (including a last minute color change by my request) Through all of this, Eli stopped by each day at least once, help address any issues during the process, and took drone photos and video from start to finish. The team cleaned well after themselves too, despite how messy the project was. They even added some extras that sweetened the deal such as adding crickets to the flashing of each of the 8 skylights (see attached photo for what a cricket is), adding additional custom flashing on adjoining walls to the new roofing material, and adding a custom curb and cricket to our peculiar roofline windows. Unfortunately, there were some minor details that needed to be addressed after the roof was completed. A couple panes of our peculiar roofline-wrapping windows were cracked in the process, and two skylights needed to be adjusted (one was making a vibrating sound, while another wasn't fully seated) - it's worth calling out that none of these issues caused any water damage as it rained the day after the job was done. Eli was super responsive to my concerns, and assured me that I would be taken care of - and absolutely stood by his word. Over the course of the next couple weeks (it took a while due to inclement weather and these random rain storms coming and going), Eli keep me updated daily and he had various members of his team come by to measure our windows, install brand new glass, and fix the problematic skylights. Now that the project has fully completed, I can rest assured knowing that if anything were to ever come back up, Eli and his team will be here to stand by their work and keep things in tip-top shape. read more
