The food selection in their little cafeteria building had a small variety of food options. The food comes out quickly. I was a bit disappointed with the $19 meal I purchased. But overall it was decent for the day's trip. The donut stall has a small menu of about 7 different donut options and a lot of canned jellies and jams. We stopped by High Hill Ranch on Saturday on the way up to do some camping at Union Valley. It was my daughter's birthday weekend and she wanted pie instead of birthday cake. We walked around a bit and bought their infamous apple donuts and some apple fritters. We also decided to grab some food at Pie House. We got the Chili Cheese Fries, Cheeseburger and Bowl of Chili -- my daughter also picked out their Peaches and Cream pie! All the food was better than expected - we had a big party with us and everyone liked their food. We loved the outdoor patio at Pie House - it's got lots of table space and it's a great area to just relax. The staff were also very friendly and the food came out quickly. We also picked up some homemade caramel and some honeycomb! I was eyeballing some pickled veggies and salsas that I'll have to buy next time we visit. I could spend hours at High Hill and we usually do when we take our annual trip in the Fall. There's so much to do like pony rides and the Fudge Factory plus all of the other stops along the way. This is usually a must stop favorite for us. My husband absolutely loves their apple fritters, but today must have been an off day. We purchased two fritters and two donuts. For the fritter apple to dough ratio was way off and it tasted either burnt or perhaps the oil needed to be changed. As well as it was ice cold, I tried asking the gal in the back if we could swap out for a fresh one she said sure but she would be charging me. Sadly I don't think we will be back. read more

This was my first time going to Apple Hill and this was our first stop!! We went on a Tuesday morning. Pros: plenty of vendor variety - we shopped around and found some good things to take home, including a native crafted sweatshirt, a handmade cat purse, and a box that had miniature items in it! We had no trouble finding parking at 10:30am on Tuesday. The hard apple cider was amazing. The maple and pumpkin donuts were pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. I ordered a hot dog and there was SO much seating available. The pond was cool to look at and didn't smell bad. We walked past alpacas and the worker allowed us to feed them! Prices here seemed reasonable compared to the other Apple Hill stops we made. Cons: I could see how parking would fill up QUICK and there was no rhyme or reason to how people were parking. We had time to kill while in Placerville and ended up going here based on reviews. Not our deal at all as we have no interest in all the little craft booths and henna tattoo tents. But having stopped in we had to try the food. They serve a lot of guests, the pace was amazing to see. The food looked very basic, probably coming off the back of the Sysco truck. So we were glad we ate lunch before coming. But the pies looked delicious and we knew they were made right on property so we got a slice. We choose the sour cream & apple berry. It consisted of diced apples, blackberries, and sour cream, finished with a dutch crumble topping and chopped walnuts. This was a little slice of heaven. It was served hot and had great flavor. High Hill was our second stop during our Apple Hill day trip. We went the weekend before Halloween, early in the morning. This is probably the largest Apple Orchard in the area, it was also the busiest too. I saw online that they're famous for their Apple Cider Shake. I got one of those and it was delicious! They have boxes of apple for almost the double of what you will pay at Delfino. This place is louder and more active than the other spots. The views and scenery are beautiful, thats mainly why I come back. The service I get at the the shops is hardly any, thats what I hate, I guess vendors always look at me and think I'm broke lol. We love visiting High Hill Ranch and getting our fill of apple-everything. Normally we visit around 11 or noon, but this time it was 4pm. Parking was super easy this time in the first lot on the right, whereas we normally park deep into the apple orchards on the left. Picked up donuts, apple juice, apple cake and pies to take home. In and out in under 30 minutes. We don't typically do the activities there, but you can still see lots of families having fun throughout the area. This was our first stop on our Apple Hill Adventure. We arrived around 10am on a Sunday Morning. My girlfriend likes to stop her first as it's one of the busiest farms so the lines extend all the way beyond the building if you don't get here early. For as busy as this farm gets they are really orderly when it comes to parking and there are lots of cars. We parked in the orchard between two apple trees. Surprisingly it was easy to back out of. Every farm is know for something. This farm is known for there homemade apple donuts. I like the crumble donuts the best. You can actually taste bits of apples in the donuts. The donuts are made fresh daily. Once you stand in the long line there are several windows and tables you can walk up to and get your donuts. If you want Carmel apples walk to your right and go to that window. You can also get Carmel apples in the fridge section in the check out line. Then you don't need to stand in the donut line. If you want to fish you can rent a rod and fish in their stocked pond. Last year we checked it out and no one was catching anything and we saw several dead fish floating in the pond. I didn't take a close look this year. If you are into shopping there are lots of booths set up for finding that perfect handmade gift. Last year we spent more time here and went into the fudge shop. They also have a pie shop where you can get whole pies to take home to your loved ones. read more

It's our first time here. I recommend coming early to beat the crowds. One of the workers told me it's best to come here during Sept. to Nov. That's when they'll have all the pies in stock, and a lot of the vendors and gift shop are open. Parking wasn't hard, and the people were friendly. I stopped or asked a few of the workers' questions. They were not grumpy, like they liked working there. The view was breath taking, I can definitely see us spending a day here and just walking around. A few of the stores were closed, but they had a place for you to ride a pony or go fishing. We mainly came here for the donuts and left with way much more. The apple fritters were huge, hot, and fresh. It was thick, fluffy, and cinnamony. It reminded me of eating a fresh cinnamon roll, just as messy but so delicious. It wasn't super sweet, and you can taste the chunks of apples. We also ordered a dozen assorted donuts. They were all delicious. Usually, I'm picky with donuts. We cut them all in half to sample. I can describe each one but I think it's best for you to try yourself. They were all so moist, and some like the chocolate and maple donut had that crunchy piece like an old-fashioned donut. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. I can see the hype in driving all the way here for them. We went to the mini market right next door and ended up buying a whole bunch of goodies that I can't wait to try. A couple next to me were talking about how usually the apple butter is sold out, so I had to grab a jar. I can't wait to come back next year to get the full experience. It's been more than 20 years since I've been to Apple Hill, and it was well worth the revisit. There are a couple of dozen apple/produce farms, wineries, and breweries/cider places within a five + mile radius. Get yourself a map that is readily available, and start hopping around. They are distinctly different, and High Hill is the granddaddy of them in size and offerings. Generally, these farms are open in the fall until the New Year, a few all year, so check before you go as days and times vary, too Be prepared as I came on a weekday, and on weekends, it gets crowded, and parking can be difficult. High Hill is expansive with a number of buildings, vendors, food, crafts, and many outdoor activities. After checking our the vendors and crafts I headed over to get an apple fritter, with a walnut topping. YUM! It was super large and absolutely delicious. Don't miss it for $6. I got a hot cocoa with it, and it was scrumptious. All of the food offerings look good, and one could easily spend the day eating on goodies and wandering around. And, of course, there are apples! Lots and lots of apples of all varieties. The Fudge Factory is beyond the back portion of the property, and don't miss it for some great sweets. Prices are a bit high, which goes with the territory, but it makes for a fun outing on a Fall day. Before leaving, I grabbed a homemade sour cream berry and apple pie for home ($25.). This place is amazing! I kept seeing this on my IG and I told my husband we had to check it out. It is about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Fresno which is where I live. It opens at 8:00 am during the f their peak season. So I would advise if you are going at that time to get there when it opens. There is plenty of parking and they don't charge for it. It is a ranch so expect dirty shoes. They have a lot of craft vendors there. The pond is has a lot of nice area to sit at if you want to just enjoy the atmosphere or you can choose to do some fishing. They have stand where you can rent the poles and buy the bait. They will also clean and filet any fish you catch. It is not a catch and release. Their store has an option of options for apple merchandise. You definitely need to take home some of their apple code which comes in 1/2 gallon or gallon jugs. You also must try their apple donuts and apple fritters. You won't be disappointed. They also have a nice place for lunch. They have burgers and sandwiches. Hayrides are available to take and there are pumpkins for sales as well as fresh apples. You also need to take home one of their apple pies! It is a great place to take the family for the day or make it a weekend visit as there are other farms along the road. We came here for the first time and what an experience!! It was very crowded and there were a lot of people but it was so organized. They have a little fishing pond where you can fish and even rent supplies from them. They offer Hay rides for the kids and they had a lot of vendors with beautiful crafts. This place was packed! I wasn't too crazy about the food, and they pretty much treat you like you are a crowd. People try to provide good service, but all I like was the sweets. They had a bunch of shops outside that you could buy just about anything, it was kind of like a farmers' market. Was able to sneak in right before peak apple/fall season, so we were able to avoid the crazy crowds that show up every October to November. A really nice ranch with a huge, expansive property - plenty for the family to do. Dog friendly. Plenty of kiddos. I imagine during the busy season when all the vendors are open it's even more hectic and fun. Pony rides, plenty of seating areas and picnic benches placed all over. A nice lake in the center of the ranch is a really nice touch - great to wander around, enjoy your food/drink, and watch your kid chase the geese. Donuts were closed when we were here but they looked tasty in the photos. The pies from the main restaurant/dining area were delicious - Dutch crumble was delicate and very good! Recommended! The ciders were excellent and paired well with the hot end-of-summer day. The rest of their food was a bit more mediocre - grilled cheese was just 2 inverted hamburger buns w/ cheese slices. The burger was juicy but basically dropped in between a regular bun with some toppings. If it wasn't so expensive, it'd probably be more palatable, but everything in the restaurant is very, very expensive for what you're getting. Plenty of neighborhood craft vendors and tradesmen selling their wares - very fun to see what's available and support your local artisans. Definitely worth a trip to visit, although you may be slightly disappointed in the non-apple-pie-or-cider food/drink. read more

In terms of food, I would give this place a 0/5 if I could. I was very disappointed coming here, and would skip it on your Apple Hill adventure. -Grilled cheese: 0/5. I ended up throwing this one away. -Chilli nachos: 1/5, a significant amount of nachos, but the cheese and chilli were really heavy, it tasted canned and artificial. -Peach pie: 1/5, the pie was cold when we got it, straight out of the refrigerator -Hot apple cider: 2/5, more palatable than the rest of the food, but their cider tasted very "spice"y, with really strong cinnamon and other spices that made it overwhelming. -Cinnamon apple donut: 4/5, the one thing I actually did really enjoy from here. It was soft and the cinnamon complimented the donut really well. Not overly sweet, semi moist. Parking wasn't bad because we had gotten there early, but I can imagine it getting very crowded later in the day.
