a close up of a bagel with a bagel on it
    Brittney B.

This place doesn't care about reviews and I can see both here and in person... this wasn't my first time here but my last... I was in at 120 wait 5 minutes for someone to come to the front, I ask if the kitchen is open and it's not so I change my egg order for chicken salad on a bagel, I asked for the bagel to be heated but "it's going to take a few minutes" bc everything is already ready for closing which is at 2pm. Everything was off and wrapped- to top it off, I paid 10.65 for chicken salad on a hard bagel. 10.65....the bagel isn't even cut all the way through OR across.. girl was rushing to clean...

How is this an acceptable amount of creamcheese for a 9.50 bagel?!
    Lisa B.

After not having any bagels since February due to the coronavirus, my fiance and I decided to order bagels from Higbie Bagels, especially after years of recommendations from his stepdad. We wanted to really treat ourselves and get lox with creamcheese, which here is 9.50 a pop. We decided it should be worth the extra expense, especially through delivery. They ended up not only being disappointing but some of the worst, saddest bagels we have ever had and definitely was not what was advertised. Instead of sliced lox and cream cheese, we received catfood sized diced salmon and not even enough cream cheese to cover a single side. The bagels were badly burned and hard and were tinier than my petite hands. Cream cheese wasn't even as thick as a finger. We can't believe we paid over 20 dollars for such terrible bagels that were not only poor in construction but based on a lie. This is NOT lox and cream cheese! Taking advantage of your customers during these times is unacceptable. Shame on Higbie Bagels!

    They're re-open!

I've waited almost two years and my favorite bagel shop has finally reopened after being demolished by a Maserati. For a while, I didn't think they'd ever come back. I was so excited to see them open again this morning and am happy to report that the quality is still there. I got a plain bagel with veggie cream cheese as well as an everything bagel by itself. The plain bagel had a really nice crispy exterior with a soft and chewy interior. The veggie cream cheese had big pieces of carrots and scallions. The taste was excellent. This is exactly how I remembered Higbie Bagels. Long Island bagel shops tend to give WAY too much cream cheese for my taste, but Higbie Bagels did a good job giving an appropriate amount. I tend to like just a little cream cheese, so I took some of it off the plain bagel and used it on the everything bagel. The everything bagel was a masterpiece. So often the ratio of the toppings are off, not so here at Higbie Bagels. I also prefer when there is a little bit of coarse salt mixed into the everything blend. The everything bagel had such great flavor and the occasional grain of coarse salt gave a nice pop of flavor. Again, the bagel was baked really well. For one bagel with cream cheese and another bagel plain, I was charged a total of $4.08. This is a bargain for the quality of bagel they're putting out. I used to drop by Higbie Bagels a few times a week. I can't wait to go back again. There really is no substitute for Higbie Bagels in this area. Stuff A Bagel and Bagel Buzz don't even come close.

This place does not know how to properly toast a bagel. This isn't the first time i got a bagel that was literally burnt.

I really don't think it's stressed enough that these are the best bagels on Long Island. Hands down... try to change my mind.

Had the everything egg bagel with plain cream. Yum! Soft, warm, chewy, and flavorful. Can't wait to go back.

Higbie Bagels makes the best bagels in West Islip by quite a large margin and perhaps is the best bagel store on Long Island.

I wish I ate bell peppers, because a lot of their dishes have them. So even on a limited selection for me, they always have Plenty of fresh variety. If you are lucky enough to be there when the fried, butterfly shrimp tray comes out, be prepared for a "Wall Street like" experience to erupt! Lol. I have had amazing Yucca, beef patties, fried shrimp, pulled chicken and 12 things I can't pronounce! They don't have signage and if you speak Spanish you can order in Spanish also. Best hot food you can buy and you get charged by the container load, so you get nice portions for the money. If they were going to fix anything, they would have better signage that explains what everything is. But it gives it a mystery appeal I guess that makes it desirable. Definitely eat here for the ultimate bodega hot food experience.

They offer a large plate for $14.99 and a small starting at $9, which comes with rice, beans, and a choice of meat. There are also fried empanadas and a cold salad section available. I ordered arroz con gandules, beans, and half of a small roasted chicken. The food wasn't as hot as I expected for items sitting on the line. Flavor-wise, it was decent but nothing that stood out. Pricing felt a little high--my large meal and a Coke came out to just under $19 with tax. I'd probably stop by again if I was in a rush and craving Spanish food, but overall it was a lackluster experience.

I had thought maybe they just ran out the first time I went, so when I went back a month later, to my surprise, they still didn't have that. I was able to get fried chicken cutlet instead, which isn't what I truly wanted as I am trying to eat better, but it was good, just not what I had wanted. They did not have whole wheat wraps, the did not have avocado and they did not have chipotle mayo. I really struck out on this deli. I had also ordered a sausage egg and cheese which was good, but the bagel was just ok. It's truly been an issue finding a good deli around Bay Shore.
