Been going for a year or so now, always liked the atmosphere and it's close to work. I stopped drinking six months ago and have been trying to find places I can still go. Went recently and they didn't have any non-alcoholic beers which sucked but I brought it up to Hunter, the GM, and he was really cool about it and ordered some for me and had them a few days later. I really appreciated that. The staff can come off as a little intimidating at first, but they are all really cool people if you get a chance to sit at the bar or talk to them. read more

This is my favorite bar in Northwest Austin. There are very few choices near Parmer, and this one delivers! The drink prices are very reasonable, and they have a great jukebox! No annoying karaoke or crummy cover bands. Very dark inside if you want privacy, which I like. The demographics run 20-40's, later at night it's mostly people off work from the service and tech industries nearby. Good food menu. The wings are delish! They won't tell me their ranch dressing recipe unfortunately. My usual day is Sundays, and bartenders Shannon and Hunter always have my "usual" ready to serve as soon as they see me. The place also has a great food menu and a big outdoor patio for smokers and people that want to be outside. Unique food specials daily. Parking can be limited, but I always find a spot! Pretty chill bar, has a lot of seating. Have option of sitting inside or outside. Cheap prices for same drinks you can get else wear. Food is good for being a dive bar. I don't come here to expect a 5-star high end meal? Never had a problem with my orders. I like that it's a neighborhood bar, super convenient for me to meet up with some friends when I don't want to go all out and dress up in fancy outfits and heels etc. I got 3 pickle juice shots here one time for only like $10?! Hideout has a personality to fit the name - it is indeed hidden in plain sight right on Mopac, and it provides its own, secluded little space where you can eat, drink, and socialize, with a vibe that seems friendly, welcoming, and inclusive. So far I've had burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, and fish-and-chips that were all above average for dive bar fare. Well-made drinks and a good selection of beer round things out. Plenty of TVs tuned to different games as well as non-sports stuff, so everyone has a corner to gravitate towards if they wish. Servers are smart, friendly, and efficient. I'd be here more often if they welcomed dogs in their outdoor area, but aside from that gripe there's not too much to find fault with here... cheers, and see you there! read more

Food is consistent and good, wing night is always packed and the only exception to speedy service- but no complaint here!Always has your sports game on and a great movie for your boyfriends to watch if they don't like hockey or football. The Hideout. I have been wanting to go for a long time to this location and finally had the chance. It was with a number of people and well worth the trip up to North Austin. The location is extremely hard to find. In fact we drove past it 4 times before we noticed it as it sits off the road, up a slight hill. I would describe the place as a cross between a Joint and a Dump. I was a bit apprehensive, but once settled in, I came to realize the magic of the little place. The people who were not with our group, but were regulars, treated me like family, jump up and holding doors when I had my hands full, and engaging me in friendly chatter. The barkeep, after my first order of a set of margaritas, remembered my name and all I had to do was hold up the number of fingers for the quantity I was ordering for myself and others and would start working them when he had a free moment. What was also interesting was how there could 5 or 6 people coming up for drinks and those that were there first were quick to offer anyone else to go before them. That is real class. In addition, the patrons, as well as the staff, seemed to go out of their way to respect each and every person. The dranks were very low cost and we took full advantage of that surprise. The place is dark, you can easily stumble on steps leading to the patio. As for food, I did not have any of the food (well, actually a young lady offered me a tater tot, which was good) as we had already eaten. After mucho dranks, and an extra hour of time spent than was planned, it was time to make a break for it with our designated driver. Hideout has been our go to Happy Hour bar for years now. For "dive bars" the food is fantastic (I recommend the A1 Burger or Firehouse Chicken Sandwhich) service is always top notch and ambiance is what you want for a place to hang out with friends/co-workers. No sports bros screaming, lots of seating, convenient location. Parking can be a bit of a pain though but, taken together. The Hideout is the best spot in that part of town. read more

I just love this place! The crowd is such an awesome mix from the suited business man all the way to the grungy messy looking types. I like how you don't feel people burning holes in the back of your head or regulars at the bar starring you down with that "what is he/what are they doing here" vibe. It's a vey chill place with cheap drinks (awesome happy hour deals) and excellent appetizers. The fried pickles are dry good and come with a nice mellow ranch dip,that compliments it perfectly. There is a jukebox, dart board, pin ball machine and even a big outside patio great for large groups. The hideout is definitely my favorite bar in Austin (not including 6th st -downtown). We came here with a group, and we had a really good time. Going down the checklist: Dive bar? Check. Good cheap drinks? Check. Bar food to go with the drinks? Check. Nice bartenders? Check. Then you throw in a great outdoor deck with some good music playing over the speakers and you've got a great place to meet up with some friends or make some new ones. We had the chicken wings with the firebomb sauce and also the spicy BBQ. Both sauces were good and the wings were done great, good and crisp, just like we like them. We also had a basket of fries, which was very large and very good. They have a surprising number of menu items, and the other food we saw looked good as well. The place lived up to our expectations. Definitely recommend the patio, but if you want the dark bar experience, the inside can more than meet that need too. read more

If you are looking for a joint off the beaten path with cheap drinks and just alright food...this is your place. Nothing too exciting about the location, service or pub. The outdoor seating area is nice but very smoke filled. It was pretty busy, I am guessing because of the cheap drinks. I probably wouldn't be back unless I was with a group or someone adamantly wanted to go here. Parking is interesting (not in a good way) and the location is not real easy to get to or to find. Was here last Saturday for an UYE with our AA group. As I'd never been to Hideout before I did a bit of googling. I learned that they were under the umbrella of a few other watering holes here in the Austin area that I had visited before , so I knew what to expect. Zero pretension, strong drinks, and decent pub grub. Service from the two bartenders I spoke with was personable and polite. One apologized for the lack of a frozen drink after I inquired about a frozen margarita. He made me a great variation of a moscow mule Deep Eddy cranberry+ginger beer, which was fantastic. As far as the food, I had some lemon pepper wings which were a tad over cooked and dry. My cheese fries weren't that good either. However, they got the job done as a foundation for my drinks. All in all, I had two well made drinks, wings& fries, and my bill was barely $20. Steal! I'll definitely be back to check out happy hour and maybe another nice evening on the patio. read more

I used to hang out there until one of the regulars decided they didn't like me. So the manager kicked me out... I'm a fairly mild mannered person and he's done this to me twice now because his friends don't like me. I'd be watching a movie, having a beer and if they show and say something he kicks me out. Everybody needs a neighborhood bar with solid drinks and food. This is it! The Hideout has great drinks, a variety of local beers, and bomb wings and burgers/sandwiches. We come here all the time for the wings which are awesome and for a good price. They have a large outdoor patio area as well. The inside is pretty dark, like any divey bar, but it's always lively and they generally have a movie going on a large pull down screen in the corner. Sometimes the music is a little loud inside, but that can be mitigated by not sitting directly under one of the speakers, or by sitting outside. It's a hole... But a good one. It's not like a crusty badger hole, it's a warm, dark, clean hobbit hole. 7:30 on a Saturday evening, Lethal Weapon just ended on one tv, Die Hard just started, and the Stella is flowing freely... Four items have been ordered, four delivered hot and fresh, four enjoyed with much relish (the verb, not the condiment). Chili-cheese waffle fries, buffalo chicken sliders, regular sliders, and deep fried pickles, all of which are some of the best bar food I have had in a long while. The buffalo sliders are spicy, like real heat, and molten bleu cheesyiness. The buns they use are fantastic, doughy and delicious. The beef on the sliders is cooked over flamey goodness as well, and tastes like happy. The chili is delicious, no beans, and the fries are moist and crunchy. The fried pickles are the weakest, but damn if they aren't tasty. Overall, it's great, I'd 4 1/2 star it, as it needs a few more beers on draft, but the food made up for it, and the lack of four-pop collar douchebags is excellent. Dive here if you want unobtrusive music, good food, dark lights, grungy atmosphere, and clean bathrooms. read more

We stopped by on our first Monday in town, it's such a great spot! We walked in and it took a hot minute for our eyes to adjust to the darrrrrrkness! It was fairly empty, so we wandered in and the bartender stopped us asking for an id, being almost 30 it's a compliment.... but it was pitch black hahaha. Anyway, it was a pretty mixed crowd, which is always nice. They had plenty of seating, and if it were nicer we might have been able to enjoy the large patio! We ordered a draft and whiskey drink and found a table to sit. The music was good and loud, and there was also a game on the large tv. I've lived down the street from the Hideout for over two years now, and just got around to checking it out a couple of weeks ago. I am kind of mad at myself that it took me so long to come here, but in my defense it is kind of a weird location. However, now that the dark days pre-Hideout are behind me, I am happy to report that I have visited it at least 7 times in the past two weeks. Here are some things that make this place awesome: 1) I have seen them play the following movies on the TVs above the bar: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hard Target, Aliens, and Roadhouse. 2) The patio is amazing. Gigantic picnic tables for larger groups, smaller bistro tables for smaller groups, and lots of both to make sure everyone can get a seat. And considering that it's right next to Mopac there's not very much road noise (unless some idiot is revving their car in the parking lot) 3) The jukebox is pretty well stocked and only has a few things that suck or are incredibly inappropriate for the bar setting. (Note to everyone in the entire world: please don't play Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" unless you REALLY want to kill the mood in a place.) 4) Clean bathrooms in a bar? Yes please. 5) The beer selection is not huge, but what they do have on tap is cheap and good. $3 pints of Blue Moon are love in the Texas summer. 6) The crowd is...diverse. I have seen hipsters, goths, and punks here all at the same time without any kind of turf war breaking out. 7) They're open until 2am EVERY NIGHT. I have not seen another bar this far north with hours like that, so as far as I'm concerned they should be given a medal or something. 8) I can walk here if necessary. And if I drive, there's plenty of parking that does not require me to parallel park. read more

This spot really is a hideout! It's tucked away and hard to find. I don't blame them for this. I blame the city planners. Getting thru that clusterfark of Burnet and Mopac (where Tacodeli hides) is bad enough, then I got stuck at the train tracks. I was cursing like a sailor when the new monorail zipped by in about 2 seconds and I was through. It was so cute as to be cuddled, that Monorail. Looked like Mr Roger's neighborhood. Anyhoo, I really liked this bar. The drinks are CHEAP!! HH is $2 well drinks. That's couch change cheap. That's calling in on a debt cheap (I want my Two Dollarrrrs!!). I had several drinks (ahem) and a burger for $22. And the A1 burger was really messy and good with A1 and jalapenos and bacon squirting out with every bite. It was a monster, but thankfully Colin T sacrificed his diet and ate half for me. He's swell. The waffle fries were seasoned and crispy and oh so nom (ha, that sounded Asian...I should use that in my next Asian restaurant review! I digress....). I can't wait til my "up north" drinkin buddies get back from Europe so's we can hit the HH again. Summary: I've been 4-5 times now, and it's my opening bid for meeting on my side of town. Very dim, good food, inexpensive, plenty of outdoor tables, excellent staff. The bloody mary is a 4, the place a 5. I don't think Bagpipes will ever get its 5th star from me; I'll be at the Hideout. THE BLOODY MARY: Had it twice. This was my first one using Demitri's mix, but I'm assuming it's Demitri's Classic, not Demitri's Chillies and Peppers (which I'd like to try). Here's what I found on the mix: "[Demitri's Classic] is an award-winning blend of fresh-ground horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, chili peppers, a touch of garlic and a few secret spices, free of artificial preservatives, sulfites and MSG." As you know, I look for base flavor, heat level, flavors of heat, texture, celery salt level, and "surprise me". I ordered spicy with absolut peppar, and (as usual) backed down to my second choice, Stolichnaya. The cocktail came out in a medium glass with a lime wedge, white rim salt, only slightly browned, and a few dashes of black pepper floating on top. From the first few tastes: Demitri's has a little texture; too much celery salt (all too common) gave it a brackish taste; the heat profile was not distinctively tabasco-based, so the lack of vinegar made it "juicier"; significant burning sensation afterward on the lips without a great deal of mouth-heat. I didn't taste the horseradish, but that must have been part of the texture. All-in-all, pretty good. The excess celery salt is holding it back (next time I'll make sure no one's throwing in more), and it's missing a mouth-heat or "tasty heat" dimension: a medium vegetable flavor like habanero or jalapeno would round it out. Even a dash of Cholula would brighten it up and give it more savor. Still, pretty good, and read on for the bottom line: $4.50, and that's with a premium vodka. It'd fall somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, but blows away every other bloody mary I've had in its price range, so takes home the 4. I'll be drinking more of these just to satisfy myself that it really is mostly black pepper: the burning on the lips suggests it, but I'm not sure yet. I'll also make sure it's Classic and not Chillies and Peppers. THE STAFF, FOOD & OTHER DRINKS Excellent service at table and bar. I've liked everyone I've worked with, you could say. I've had the chili burger, the bbq burger, both regular and waffle fries, the onion rings, and the buffalo wings: it all exceeds expectations. I haven't yet found the item I'd stick to, so I'll keep trying more of the menu, but I wouldn't be unhappy if this were it. I suggest giving away half the burger and fries: no one needs all those calories when drinking. Alcohol is metabolized first for your energy needs, as a very readily-available sugar; anything else you throw in after it gets stored as fat, since rocking a bar stool isn't exactly cross-country skiing. And you will be running on alcohol here: drinks are cheap. I wasn't prepared to be charged only $7.50 for 3 bourbon shots, and sincerely thought he'd charged me only for one. We're used to outrageous prices on shots from Opal Divine's, you see. Keri B.'s Cape Cod was what, $2.50? Buttery Nipples (their pick) for Catherine T. and Merilee were $3.50. I'm an Opal's regular for the Pub Quiz, but it's just too nice to get a round of shots and a pitcher of beer for a bunch of friends without taking out a loan, so The Hideout is without a doubt my neighborhood bar. Right there! Ohhhhhh.... BTW, after my Cherry Popped, Mrs Vanushka tied the stem in her mouth...Seriously. In front of PEOPLE... Satiated, I sank back in my chair while, Mrs Vanushka tended to my now smudged and slutty iPhone. I realized my mistake as soon as the words were out of my mouth. "Do you have any Tuesday specials?" The guy was like "er, uhm, the prices are already pretty frickin fabulous..." I'd been here before, but kind of forgot. Wells are $2.50, but during discount hours you get 50¢ off. Just in case that extra half-dollar was holding you back. I knew I'd be drinking wine later, so I asked if some Ace Pear Cider would serve as a pleasant buffer. I received the bartender's blessing, and my $3 cider was served. A little Batman banter, some talk of superhero suits with nipples, then I made my way out to the patio. I was still shaking my head trying to remember if Clooney or Kilmer had been the worst caped-crusader on film. This patio's not the most romantic one in town. Mopac and all it's traffic glory is right across the way. I'll tell you what else didn't give me a warm fuzzy: the chips, of the chips and queso duo. They were made out of stale cardboard that had possibly been fried to soak in some moisture. Seven stars! Give it up for Keri B for hosting this HH. I came in with my pudding face on, smiling at no one and everyone in hopes I would recognize somebody and finally I made eye contact with Keri and so begins my afternoon at the dimly lit, well-patio'ed, little gem of a place called The Hideout. Our waitress Shannon was just superb. Never flustered and didn't flinch at my increasingly high-pitched shrill voice (it happens when I get excited). I got the chicken tenders with onion rings and waffle fries. I've had my share of waffle fries and find most of them too potatoey but these had a great batter and some sort of seasoning and it was great. They make a mean iced tea, too lol. This was my 1st time at Hideout and 1st UYE (look at me all cool using Yelp vernacular). There were lotsa interesting and fun folks who showed and many great conversations going on and I found it a little hard to focus b/c I wanted to HUG EVERYBODY!! Someone please bring me some Ritalin from your kid's prescription next time. That and Lipitor. Imma have another go at those waffle fries. read more

We stopped in here last night to check the place out and have a burger. Reviews and rumors indicated they were good. And yes, I am here to tell you the burgers are very good. Fresh Angus beef is hard to beat. Your burger has options here too. There are a variety of toppings and the waffle fries come regular or seasoned. No frozen margaritas are available but the one I had on the rocks was strong and tasty. Most everyone else in our group had beer and there are many varieties available. But the layout of Hideout Pub leaves a lot to be desired. You walk in the door and the bar jumps out at you. It's right by the door. Like one review warned, the chairs made my butt hurt. And it's naturally loud due to the hard surfaces and lack of acoustical elements. There is a deck but lots of smokers so we stayed inside. If you want a good burger, good beer, strong margaritas and jukebox, television and people all going at once and you don't want to talk to anyone in your group--then come at peak dining times. Otherwise, try during the week for a less crowded noisy experience. The burger's are worth it. read more

This is my new, local bar. It's practically right around the corner from my house. I heart this place. Beer is cheap and they have a pretty decent selection. Sadly, only six or seven on draft... but you can't go wrong with a $12 pitcher of Blue Moon! I definitely drink more (quantity wise) here that I probably should, just because it is so cheap. And FOODZ! They can haz them! Mostly typical bar fare, I suppose but everything I've sampled is tasty. I highly recommend the chili cheese waffle fries. How could you POSSIBLY go wrong with a combination like that?! You just can't. The inside is dark and there's always some slightly random, sometimes obscure movie playing on the tv screens. They have a fantastic, ginormous patio... my friends and I always end up sitting outside; We've even sort of claimed our own table. And don't let me forget about the jukebox. By far one of the best in town. There's a pretty wide variety of music, but I think every time I've been in, nothing I hated has ever come on (maybe Rush. But I blocked it out). "Man it's dark in here"...i thought as I walked in. My eyes could not adjust to the change before I was recognized by some fellow Yelper's and directed to our table. I am grateful for that as tripping over the waitress and flailing to a heap in the middle of the floor would not likely have endeared myself to some new friends. As it turned out my eyes adjusted just fine, except whenever the patio doors opened and I got a nice shot of rays again. I saw my good ole friend, some I had been wanting to meet for a long time, and some great new ones. Sweet Keri had a cold Blue Moon waiting for me and it was perfect for washing away the traffic blues. I got here just in time to watch her and Colin finish their burgers which did look good. Later I had a Sweet Tea Wodka drink that always are a favorite. The Hideout had lots of space with dartboards, jukebox and tables and outdoor patio. I could see how Hideout could kinda grow on you. Shannon, our waitress, was a champ and kept all of our checks separate and the drinks coming with no delay. My only real demerit for Hideout was the somewhat disgusting corrugated steel walled bathrooms with stains at the, um, appropriate height. I know most of my friends would be absolutely SHOCKED to hear this but most of the time we'd head to the closest shite hole and drink ridiculously cheap (depending on the country) beer, scarf down horrific pizza and fight off hookers (!). The Hideout is NOT one of those bars. I've been here three times for beers and chow, and like it more each time. I tried the Hideout Burger last time, and oh damn. Fantastic hunk of meat with some great fries on a very fresh bun. That coupled with a few pints of Guinness and I'm a happy mofo. I tried the crispy Hideout Chicken sammich last night with a few Newcastles and I think it's one of the best I've ever had. The bar has a great dim, slightly sketchy feel and has an enormous screen showing sports most nights. I just wish the parking lot was a bit bigger, but there's plenty of room on the street behind the place. I'm a fan, and will definitely keep coming back. read more

Due to Catherine's drinking problem/constant checking in here I finally stopped by here after work. This place makes for an interesting mix of overdressed people who just got off work and possibly homeless people who panhandle at Mopac and Parmer. The beer prices are good, the jukebox is solid, but what sold me on this place was the sheet metal on the walls in the bathroom. Nothing, I repeat NOTHING, says beer joint like having sheet metal bathrooms. Stop in, wait 5 minutes, say hi to Catherine, have a beer. Rinse and Repeat. read more
