One of Eugene's great bakeries, Hideaway makes fat loaves to take home and use for sandwiches or just by itself, fruit filled pastries among the best I have ever had. It served a limited breakfast and lunch menu and meat filled hand sandwiches. It is always busy. Food is very fresh and delicious. Most is takeout, but there is covered patio space as well. I divide their huge sweet rolls into quarters and reheat them for sweet treats over several days. So good. read more

I opened the door to see what was in the cake display and what options there were for coffee. Because I had my friends' service dog in training and her service dog I told the lady in front of me that I was going to get out of line and order at the outside window where people pick up orders. The girl at that window served 2 different orders, completely ignored me and when I tried to get her attention she walked to the inside line. Finally after she helped two more people (when it would've been my turn in line) I asked if I could do an order at the window so the dogs wouldn't be inside. The girl said after she helps everyone in line I can be helped. I asked again if she would help me at the outside window and she said I had to get in line. I said never mind, you don't understand the question. I just want to know if I can order. She ignored me. So I left. I could have stayed in line, but was doing the correct thing by not having 2 dogs inside. It is extremely sad how this girl could not listen to my information about who I was behind in line and take my coffee and cake order. She didn't care that I asked for help. Took my wife here for a morning breakfast date. The food was great, the coffee was superb, and the atmosphere was super cozy. There is only outdoor seating, but I believe I saw some heaters. Now granted, we were there on a Monday so the super small parking lot still had room for us. However, I have heard that on the weekends it can get really crowded. So be prepared for that. I'm so very impressed with the selection this cute little shop has! As someone trying to be vegan I didnt have to go without (not usually the case!) they had super yummy breakfast vegan desserts and delicious pastries. This place used to be good. Their ability to get specialty coffees in the hands of their customers is an utter failure. If they went all that effort to make it. You would think they would make a little bit of effort to get it into the hands of the person that wanted it. I opted to get a fancy coffee for my birthday. I ended up with a luke warm drink. So sad to see this place go the way it has. Service is pretty much not there, the food quality has really gone down and the old issue of waiting for ever for your eat in order is back - on paper half take out cartons instead of plates, no silverware and not even a napkin with the food which tastes nothing like the Hideaway of old. It's ok. Amazing seating keeps me coming back. 11 dollar loaves of bread are ridiculous, though delicious, and the pastries aren't great either for the price. The worst food! I waited 45 min for a truly awful breakfast...rubbery cold eggs, boiled breakfast potatoes and an extra hard slice of cold toast. I said it was the worst food I've had in years and it really was. A few weeks prior I had a croissant sandwich that was fresh and heavenly so it's hot or miss here, more miss to be honest. I'm also not a fan of the 2 coffee blends they always serve, they taste metallic and never a nice, smooth cup. It's a bummer, this place could be so much better. This is my absolute favorite go-to breakfast spot in Eugene! The pastries and breakfast menu items never disappoint! The menu items change often enough to keep you excited about what you might find when you arrive, and the classic breads and pastries are always magnificent. This is an especially great place to frequent when the weather gets nice, as the sunny patio (there is also shade for those who don't want to sit in the sun!) is a great place to unwind. The baked goods at Hideaway are superior. The service at Hideaway is chronically disappointing. Nearly every time I visit I feel like I'm inconveniencing the staff just because I showed up. This has got to be on the management, what is the expectation there? I'm serious when I say that most of the time they do not even greet the customer. Last visit I got a blank stare and no greeting when I stepped up for my turn, so I just started ordering, then the kid was incredibly unhelpful. I feel bad every time I leave that place. Came to meet a friend for coffee. Hideaway has socially distances tables with shelter from most of the elements. Some tables have heaters directly overhead which is really nice. I had an Americano with a chocolate croissant; both of which were delicious. There's an outdoor window to order coffee while inside you can see the baked goods and order coffee. The staff was courteous and quick. There's also "The Farm Stand" serving up food to order. I noted there are paper towels, gloves and a bottle with an unknown cleaner on the outside counter so that you can disinfect your own table. There's no staff doing this between customers. read more

My 4 month old baby was getting upset so I finally asked and they didn't even know what my order was. We went to Hideaway twice in a three day span during a visit to Eugene and would have made it three if we didn't force ourselves to try other places. The orange cardamom pastry is to die for, as is the savory turkey and provolone croissant. The potato donuts were interesting and very good as well. One time we tried the honey cardamom latte and that was delicious. The spicy Mayan mocha was also good with regular milk and oatmilk. We love the outside patio area and can see why the lines get so long on the weekend. Discovered this bakery a couple of weeks ago. I've been here for 4 years and had never heard of it, and it's only 2 miles away. PROS: 1. Great bread. Have not tried the pastries, so cannot comment on them. It's definitely all about the bread here. Yes, it IS densely rustic, even rustically dense. Some might call it hearty. Immense flavor and chew. Some people don't care for that, but me? Bring it on. Best sourdough I've found locally. The miche, though? Too dense for even me- so dense it's un-toastable. And I've tried. 2. Nice local vibe. Friendly. Again with the rustic. It's a very comfy and pleasant place to hang out, less so when crowded, but still. Definitely a neighborhood hang. 3. Very good coffee. CONS: 1. Do not try to come between, say, 9:00- noon any day of the week. Get there before 9:00. The weekend? Forget about it. Massive line. Super crowded. 2. Service is decidedly... casual. It can sometimes be weirdly defensive and either indifferent or downright bitchy, depending on who's working the register. And nobody likes that. Some people skills are called for when one is working with, say, people. I've had some very pleasant interactions with the staff, and some decidedly disagreeable ones with people who were clearly not taught manners nor courtesy and just as clearly would rather have been almost anywhere else. There is a tendency to slam the pass-thru window shut with a bit more force than necessary, which-when done every single time one closes that window- is not conducive to a relaxed atmosphere. It's hit or miss with the service here. Frankly, I have avoided going back because of how I was treated the last time I was there. Don't have time for mean girls with seriously snippy attitudes. I taught high school for 40 years. Been there and done that. 3. If you order food from the oh-so-rustic farm cart, be prepared to wait a long time. The cooks work at a very "measured" and deliberate (read glacial Eugene) pace. Meaning hella slow. If it's crowded (see above), you might wait up to a half hour-forty five minutes for your breakfast. If you are hangry when you order, it's the ninth circle of hell. THAT SAID, the breakfast sandwiches are worth the wait. Again, it's all about the bread. Toasty, fresh and sour. The bacon: smoky, thick and lean. Worth the wait, and I am not a good "waiter," so that's saying something. read more

That was all yummy and warmed up perfectly. Well my daughter ordered a BLT. That took over 45 mins , every time I went to check on it I was told 10 more mins. People who arrived after us were getting their cooked food before ours . We waited Patiently and after 45 mins I told one of the two cooks that we have waited 45 mins. I was told my order was next so it took another 1o mins .Well when I got it the bacon was broken into little piece and way over cooked . My daughter ended up throwing half away. Holy crap!!!! This is one of the best gems we could have found in Eugene. This tucked away bakery is in the cutest little nook, my boyfriend and I were traveling through and wanted something for breakfast and coffee and we found this. We wanted to try somewhere that uses fresh, local and organic ingredients and this is exactly what we found. We were greeted by an adorable atmosphere, with plants and an amazing smell of bacon, fresh bread, and coffee. When you walk in all you can see are cases of fresh baked goods--pastries, bread, and pasta all made in house. You can even see them making all of the dough, we were so impressed. We then were told that they have an outdoor barbecue where you can order fresh food/breakfast sandwiches and burritos. We walked outside and could immediately smell this fresh bacon and other ingredients being cooked right in front of you. I love that this place is vegetarian friendly, I got the almond croissant and Nuevo burrito. My boyfriend got the BLET. OMG it is the best breakfast sandwich and burrito we have ever had. 10/10 would recommend this spot. This is my favorite spot for breakfast or lunch. Their breakfast burrito is so good and huge. Their loaves of bread are wonderful & the chocolate croissant is to die for. The coffee is just right (not too strong or weak). I've tried several different pastries and never been disappointed. I enjoy sitting on the very pleasant patio (no indoor seating) and we can bring my granddog. It's just a short walk from my son's place so super convenient as well.
