This was our first time in North Carolina, and looked forward to having various foods. The first restaurant we hit up was the Hickory Tavern. As we walked in the hostess Morgan presented us with a warm and friendly welcoming, which enlightened us. We sat at our booth and our server Allison welcomed us with a big beautiful smile. She was helpful and had great customer service. With her hospitality and service we would very much come back to visit and eat here. All food was great and we had the BBQ nachos, ahi tuna, and the fiesta salad. My dish was the grits and shrimp with sautéed mushrooms and sausage. Every thing was delicious and service was amazing. I visited here on two consecutive nights while in town. In both instances the food was good and the service not so much. Predominantly older clientele indicative of the area and younger, seemingly inexperienced servers. TVs galore, nice decor and a great local choice for food, drinks and to watch your sporting event of choice. 3.5 stars -- 4 for food, 3 for service, 3.5 for atmosphere. read more

Ordered blackened shrimp tacos and a side salad. Tacos were ok. Shrimp had a good spicy flavor but who in the world puts white American cheese on tacos? Not a good flavor together and oh by the way ... No sour cream. Should have come with a side for $1.29. Ordered a side salad. Charged $3.29 for the salad! Menu is a bit deceiving. Be aware! Overall the service couldn't make up for the shortcomings on the plates. While the servers were quite attentive to our table, constantly grabbing refills and checking up on us (and allowing us to move the potted plants which intruded on personal space patio-side) the food fell flat from our good expectations. The hummus was bland (imagine chickpeas in a blender with water), the oysters weren't briney, and the gumbo came out lukewarm. I opted for a main of boiled shrimp and sides, and the asparagus and broccoli sides were incredibly oversalted, to the point of crusty chunks of it coming off the florets and tasting more like a salt lick than vegetable. The shrimp themselves were well prepared with a good amount of Old Bay. The shrimp and grits my friend ordered were also above par (in the good way) for our experience. There is potential here, but the kitchen seemed off its game, hopefully they work out the kinks. read more

In my numerous visits to this establishment, I have never had anything except for the appetizers and beer. While those are fairly priced and delicious, those aren't what kept me coming back. I am all about the service here. The waitresses are all good looking, friendly, and rarely keep you waiting. The place becomes kind of a nuthouse sometimes because I think it's the only sports bar for several miles, but even then they are very attentive and make sure you always have a cold beer in front of you. I went for all the post-season football games leading up to last Superbowl and was never disappointed with the service. If you drove out to Pinehurst for the food, the wings are actually some of the best I've had since living in/around the Fort Bragg area. Definitely tops Buffalo Wild Wings and Hooters by a mile. read more

Stopped in to this joint recently on a trip to the area, just had drinks no food. Atmosphere is general sports bar type of place, we got here early enough to grab some decent real estate, but it got quite jammed and overflowing with the after 6 crowd. With the large crowd it got quite noisy pretty fast. On the plus side they had great drink specials and pricing was quite reasonable. Our go-to spot for sporting events! We visited Hickory Tavern for a UFC event. The atmosphere was much, much more pleasant than the local Buffalo Wild Wings! We really enjoyed the large screen TVs and the attentive service. Our waiter, Tim, was exceptionally friendly and helpful to us throughout the night. The food was tasty (we had steak tacos, wings, and brownie sundae) and the drinks were fairly priced. We'll definitely be returning! read more

The waiting staff forgot they didn't have a hostess today. Waited for about 15 minutes until my dad walked past the hostess stand asking if they were open. Both waitresses were at a table talking and eating. Guess they weren't looking for service. We were directed to a booth after the waitress informed us they forgot about not having a hostess. The booth, well all of the booths smell. Like a gym locker room. The food was okay...it was a fast turn around to receive the food which why the restaurant got two stars. Over all was looking for a quick bite to eat. But after waiting forever for service it ruined the experience for okay food. read more

We found our sports bar! Huge restaurant so we felt completely comfortable eating in here during covid. Can't wait until sports start again so we can sit at the bar and hang out with everyone. Came in for lunch around 1pm on a Sunday and barely anyone there so we assumed it'd be pretty quick service....wrong! Once seated it was almost 15 minutes before a waitress even got to us. Once we finally ordered our food, took 35 min for it to get to our table. And then took another 15 minutes for anyone to even collect our payment after the bill was dropped off-and we had to flag down a different server in order for that to happen. Spent almost 2 hours there for a burger and a steak....and those weren't even the best. Burger lacked flavor and steak was overlooked. Ordered a grape salad and the grapes had all their stems in. Definitely won't be coming back or recommending this place to anyone else. read more

My wife and i went on a Monday night. Got the buy one/get one free burgers. They were cooked and served perfectly. Great service from Lacy. Last point: we left after paying an ample tab. Upon reviewing the receipt when we got back to our room, we noticed we had been overcharged for our beer. The $3.00 Corona Light drafts were $5,70. A $12.00 overcharge was more than I wanted to take. We went back in the next afternoon and discussed with Rob, the Manager, and he apologized, explained it was likely a computer malfunction and agreeably gave me the $12.00. No hassle. We started eating here 3 years ago when we relocated to the area. Food was good, service was great and atmosphere was fun. There's been a downward spiral over the past year. Food takes forever to come out of the kitchen and is poorly prepared, over cooked and haphazardly plated, missing condiments that are in the menu descriptions. Lunch crowd has dwindled and waitresses scramble but drinks go without refills and it takes too long to get the bill. Sad to see this happening to a formerly good restaurant. read more

This is your basic run-of-the-mill fifty TV sports bar attempting to be a restaurant. Drink menu is pretty average, although I cannot comment on the drink quality/flavor as I did not partake. I had a mushroom burger, and it was less than mediocre. The patty appeared and tasted just like it was frozen, although they advertise them as fresh. Flavor gets 1 star, presentation gets 1 star, freshness gets 1 star. If this review was on food alone, it would be a one star review. The saving grace here, though, is the service. Alex was our server, and he was knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and provided stellar service. In fact, all of the staff we encountered were super friendly. Been twice. First time was for appetizers and drinks on a Friday. It was very entertaining with karaoke. The second time was with my family. The server was excellent with my daughter. I first loved the hickory tavern with their flatbreads, and healthy sides like zucchini, squash &carrots in an herb butter sauce.....but they took the creative healthy options away and replaced with sides like tater tots!, no thanks. We don't get the opportunity to go out to eat as a family very often, so we had high hopes. Our server was at our table long enough to push the zucchini fries as an appetizer and then back to take our order. The zucchini fries were soggy and bland, the jalapeño ranch had zero jalapeño. I ordered their specialty margarita. It was watered down and tasted like house liquor. We got our food and had no silverware to eat it with. My daughter's order was wrong. My steak nachos had no flavor and the tortillas were straight out of the grocery store bag. We never saw our server again, and had to ask someone else for our check. Decided to go to Hickory Tavern with friends for their Wednesday special of wings and trivia night. 35 minutes after placing our order our waitress informs us she has bad news... they have run out of wings!!! It was 7:30 and the restaurant was not crowded. We also noted that there were no wings delivered to the surrounding tables. I have always had good service here by servers, bar tenders, hostess, and managers. They tend to be busy most times I come in, my food is generally prepared well. I haven't had anything that blows me away as far as taste goes. The selection of beers is really good and very reasonably priced. I went here on week day to watch the NBA Finals. Staff was friendly but every time I requested a beverage refill, my actual order or even the check, there was a very long wait until the waitress would reappear. However, I was seated right away. I don't know how I forgot to review these guys, but I did. Maybe it was the beer. Okay, lets start. I hate sports bars. I don't like all the noise, the blaring screens everywhere, usually the food suck and I hate sports bars. Did I say I hate them. Surprise! This is not like other places. First the screens were not intrusive. If I didn't want to watch it was easy. Second, Noise? what noise. We were at the bar with a party of a gazzilion behind us at the long table having a birthday....and we could hear each other fine. Next, they have soooo many good beers and beer specials! The staff, at least behind the bar were incredibly friendly, fun, and attentive. I don't know much about the food because we only had three orders of the wings. Yeah we liked them that much. Uh, the regular wings that is. The smoky barbecued ones were just a bit alien to us. We are hard core buffalo style, you know, like Anchor bar buffalo style folks. These guys can make em. And if you want to go off the track try the hot hot sauce. I still am having dreams about it. So I'll be back. If the rest of the menu sucks, which from the looks of the plates passing I highly doubt, rest assured the wing rock, the beer rocks, the service rocks and it's not your typical sports bar. And I have read all the horrible reviews here and was surprised. They all seem quite valid about the service so I hope they fix it, but we just had an entirely different experience. read more
