Is this restaurant under new management? This used be a great restaurant. We walked in and there are tables with dirty dishes on them and they never were cleaned up the whole time we were there. Nothing like smelling peoples half eaten food right next to you. We ordered the BBQ Nachos without cilantro and scallions. When the order came out it has an absurd amount of cilantro and scallions. They took them back and they fixed new ones. By the time they were almost finished my bf was finished with his meal so we took them to go. Of course, the jalapeños and sour cream were never put on them. (It's really dark in the restaurant so I didn't realize until we were home. Our server was nice but overall we were not happy with the cleanliness of the restaurant or their accuracy. read more

We tried this restaurant while spending the weekend in Pinehurst, NC. We went for an afternoon appetizer & decided to sit out on the patio. It was nice weather & the patio was a nice place to sit. We ordered a dozen oysters & an order of the nachos. The nachos weren't very good at all. They weren't layered, so it was a pile of chips underneath some toppings. It was pretty disappointing & we didn't finish them. The oysters, on the other hand, were very good. We had them raw & they came out with horseradish & sauce along with tabasco if we chose to use it. While the service was good, my burger was overdone and they forgot to add the ordered bacon. They lacked the dry vermouth to make a martini, but charged a martini price for vodka on the rocks. The prices were not corrected on the bill even after a request to do so. For a restaurant that was once consistently good, it is very disappointing now. read more

Lat week we went to enjoy a late lunch on the patio. Our server was very polite and prompt when we ordered. After that we never saw her again. Another server brought out our meals. There several employees on the patio at another table. Some were off duty and some were not. We finished our meals and our drinks and were not acknowledged by anyone. We waited about 20 minutes. Then I saw our server coming out. But after she came out onto the patio she pulled her cell phone out of her pocket, never looked at us and went to the table where the rest of the employees were hanging out. Found this place on yelp and did delivery as we had had a tough family day. Ordered three burgers and all were cooked properly and still hot upon arrival. Fries and tater tots were disappointing. My family used to live in the area when I was in high school. Hicory Tavern was one of our go-to spots. It is family friendly and golfer friendly. The food was always good as well as the service. As a result it can get busy from time to time. However, if you are in town and want to have a beer and eat some bar food than I would recommend this place. Good burgers also! It's been a couple of years since I was in Pinehurst. I was looking for a place to get some lunch. I saw my first review of Hickory Tavern. The food had been good, but the service had been TERRIBLE! I decided to try again. I was greeted and seated without a wait. My server, Jordan, greeted me and took my drink order. I settled down with the menu. I have been neglecting my veggies lately, so I decided to get a salad. I chose the "Small Tavern Salad". The menu said it was made with romaine lettuce and eggs. I asked Jordan to have my salad made with just iceberg lettuce and no eggs. While she put in my salad order, I took a sip of my drink, a Coke. I think they had the mix wrong as it was a little flat. When Jordan brought my salad, I asked to trade my Coke for an iced tea, half and half. She traded my drink right away and brought my salad. "Small" is kind of misleading. It's a pretty big salad. It had a nice amount of small diced tomatoes, ham, and bacon, and a generous handful of toasted almonds. GREAT SALAD! Jordan came back and took the rest of my order - French Dip, fries and another veggie. asparagus. I had enough time to almost finish my salad when my meal was brought out. Roast beef, good size sandwich filled with tender, still some pink, roast beef. Fries, nice. thick cut, natural (not peeled) potatoes were very crisp but tender inside. Asparagus, cooked great for my taste. Throughout my meal, Jordan checked on me; not intrusive, just making sure I didn't need anything. I drink slowly so I didn't need the refill she brought me. All things considered, I had a very nice lunch. Jordan's attention to my needs more than made up for the problems of my first visit. This is our second time eating at Hickory Tavern. I doubt we'll be back. First - the good. My husband's Delmonico Steak and loaded baked potato were excellent and so was my daughter's Fiesta Salad. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive when she was at our table. Bathrooms were clean. Now, the not so good. We were told by our waitress when she came to take our order that they just got slammed and the food might take 30 minutes or longer to be prepared. That's when things started sliding downhill at breakneck pace. Our waitress was so busy that we had to ask other staff for silverware. We had to ask four times!! My husband finally gave up and ate his pre-dinner salad with the soup spoon that came with his coffee. It took the promised "long time" for our entrees to arrive - about 40-45 minutes from when we ordered. Then when his steak arrived, they had put chips on his plate instead of a baked potato - which is normally not an issue - you just tell the server and they fix it - right?!. Well, we immediately notified the person that delivered his steak (who was not actually our waitress) of the error and asked for silverware again since the first 3 requests did not work. The silverware was finally delivered but it took so long to deliver the forgotten baked potato that he had finished all but one bite of his steak when it finally arrived. My fish tacos were average - fish was nicely cooked and toppings were fresh but sauce was a little on the bland side. The patio where we ate really needed to be cleaned - floor had trash on it and tables needed to be wiped down. The carpet on the inside looks tired and smells like old beer. The waitress told us that they had been pretty slow until just before we arrived so I'm guessing that the staff should have used that time to sweep up and roll some extra silverware - just saying. So to sum it up - the food, service and cleanliness were all hit and miss all in this one visit. read more

Service was good. But the kitchen, bar and management is pretty bad. Seasoned shrimp had no seasoning, none. Then they tried to just sprinkle some on top and give it back. Drinks were not as advertised. Got what we thought was the wrong drink, I think it was the right drink but did t have all the fruit and mint as advertised. Sent it back, still wasn't the same drink and they just added the fruit and mint in the same drink. It was the wrong fruit. I am absolutely livid right now as I have not stopped throwing up since 10pm yesterday. My family and I are not from here and stopped by this place thinking it would be a nice, tasty family dinner. It was the opposite. I ordered a burger and a baked potato after waiting over 30 minutes for our orders to be taken. My burger came out undercooked, which was fine. I get it. However, the shocking part was how I was served a raw, cold, uncooked potato slathered in sour cream and cold cheese. I was in shock. I asked the waitress what had happened, and she shrugged it off and pointed to a microwave and said I could use that to "heat up" my baked potato. I was livid. I decided to eat my burger and leave as quickly as possible. Halfway through my burger, I realized that the bacon on my burger was raw. I screamed at the waitress and flipped the table. Stopped in here on Christmas eve for a beer and dinner. This is my second time here. Nice sports bar with tons of TVs and an impressive beer list with decent prices to match. Had a great selection of local craft beer. On Christmas eve, they had a $3 draft special running till they closed at 9 which was awesome! The wait staff are attentive enough. The wings are great, nice and meaty, though if you are looking for heat just go with the hot wings. Most flavors are great, just not that spicy. Get them charred, just like off the grill at home! My husband and I are new to the area, and Hickory Tavern is one of our new favorite spots! They have a large outdoor patio - which is great to be able to bring our dog. The menu has everything you would want at a sports bar and more - I love the build your own salad option. They have tons of TVs located throughout and have the NFL package - which will be nice for football season. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. I stopped here for lunch the other day. I thought the restaurant itself looked fantastic. It's a huge upscale sports bar. I found the service to be very attentive and friendly. It was looking good until the food arrived. I started with the chili. It came out with a frozen dollop of sour cream on top. Beneath that was some really mediocre and bitter chili. No heat or seasoning. Then, my Chicken Colorado, tater tots, and fruit plate arrived. The fruit looked like it'd been cut up the day before and came out of the back of the fridge. The tots...man the tots. How do you mess up tater tots? They looked crispy, but when I stuck a fork in them they just completely fell apart. The Chicken Colorado wasn't much better. It was rubbery and flavorless. It tasted like it'd been reheated in a microwave with a packet of toppings poured on it. Maybe I picked a really bad day? Maybe I should've had a burger and fries? This place has a great food selection for a "Tavern"! For $8 you can make your own salad with six ingredients (then $2-5 for meat/proteins). And they have ingredients such as pineapple, strawberries, avocados, feta, greek olives, tofu, shrimp, and more. I mean you do not think of a tavern having this kind of selection. The rest of the menu is very high class, as is the atmosphere and hosting. Most of my party had salads and burgers, but they even serve chicken salad with a honey croissant and fruit! It has tv's everywhere like a tavern, but also removed rooms, tons of outdoor seating, and very nice booths. I would highly rec this place to any travelers. Initially we were told to sit anywhere in the bar so we took a seat at an empty table with no signs or anything on it. Waitress came over after a bit and said, "you need to move these are reserved." There were no other seats open so we had to go to the dining area. We went back to the hostess stand and told we are just wanting to get drinks and told they could seat us only in the bar. After a couple of minutes of arguing amongst themselves we were seated at a 5 top for 2 people. Came here on two separate occasions. First time; waitress looked upset to be working, which I understand that some days, just aren't your day no matter how hard you try. Second time came back with my husband; waitress seemed irritable, hardly checked on us, served my sangria without any of the garnishes ($9 dollar drink, I expect SOME garnishes especially since their menu had a description and a picture...) The real kicker was when she asked if we wanted separate checks. We both had our wedding bands on, not to mention that it's an uncommon question to ask a table of 2 that even remotely looks like they could be a couple. If you're going to work with the public, try to be a little more observant. Food was meh. Chicken quesadilla wasn't even full of cheese or chicken. Overall poor experiences.
