Had lunch here on a Saturday at peak time. It wasn't super busy and we got a table for 8 right away. The service was attentive and polite. I had the Reuben with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was standard by the fries were really good with a drizzle of honey butter. The rest of the bunch got burgers and said they were good but average. We had nachos and shredheads for apps. We have been here over an hour sitting at our table, ordered an appetizer within the first 5 minutes and just got it-45 min later. We have had to call our waitress over each time- if it weren't for us calling her over, we would not have been helped. Had to ask for our appetizer again. Had to ask for drink refills- which we were given unsweet tea instead of sweet. Also, asked for plates and silverware for our appetizer which was finally brought out after the appetizer was consumed. Not to mention, their are 3 tables around us covered in dirty dishes. After asking to speak to a manager twice and never talking to one, we got our food that was correct and tasted good. My family and I were looking for somewhere excellent and quick to get dinner since my sister had a golf competition at Pinehurst. I came across Hickory on yelp, and it was close to us, so we stopped in. Hickory Tavern is a sports fan dream; they have huge TVs all over thE entire restaurant so that you can watch any sporting event and multiple sports events at one time! We were seated immediately and got water took kick-off. We then ordered the honey hot barbecue wings for an appetizer. The wings are fried and charred on the grilled, so I was excited to taste them. These wings were moist and crispy; they had no flavor at all. These were the most tasteless wings I've ever had in my life, no salt, no nothing. What saved these wings was the ranch on the side. I then ordered the shrimp po boy. The shrimp po boy was Hickory Tavern's redemption. The shrimp po boy was delicious, fried entirely, shrimp seasoned, the bread soft, the remoulade had some kick to it. I'd get the shrimp po boy any day. Would I go back? Probably not, but this establishment is a good place to go if you need a drink and watching the games, but don't expect too much from the food. read more

Last week, I posted a one star review due to a negative experience. I was sent a response by Hickory Tavern concerned about my visit, and was put in contact with one of their staff. Kylie sent me a very long and detailed email, very concerned about the experience I had and assured me that the issues would be addressed and corrected. This place is super cool to come watch football games and also the happy hour. I had the lobster sandwich and my fiancé had the bbq burger and he said it was good and mine was good as well! The customer service was great and I forgot our services name but he was amazing and did a trivial game with us and give us warm towels with lemon to clean our hands it was a great place. Making sure I go to the right venue for UFC 202 I had to look on Yelp for the right place. Out of the options for sports bars this one was the most appealing because of there delicious food menu ! So my wife and I decided to go there. From the outside you can tell that it was incredibly busy but the hostess was quick to grab us a menu and we found a seat really quickly. There is a million televisions and whichever way you sit you have a great view of the fight. Beer selection is almost overwhelming because there's so much but you appreciate the fact that there's quality beer. Was super excited to eat here but it was a complete disappointment. We ordered an appetizer that came out after our entrees. We waited over an hour for our entrees, once the appetizer came out (nachos) it was burnt, dry & cold. The entrees were horrible and not worth the money. We tried this restaurant while spending the weekend in Pinehurst, NC. We went for an afternoon appetizer & decided to sit out on the patio. It was nice weather & the patio was a nice place to sit. We ordered a dozen oysters & an order of the nachos. The nachos weren't very good at all. They weren't layered, so it was a pile of chips underneath some toppings. It was pretty disappointing & we didn't finish them. The oysters, on the other hand, were very good. We had them raw & they came out with horseradish & sauce along with tabasco if we chose to use it. Banned for cock blocking a customer to make sure their waitstaff could get home safely because she was inebriated. For as long as I have been coming to this establishment I have never had any problems or caused any issues until there was an incident on 9 Feb 2023. Long story short As I was on my way out of the establishment after 8 pm, I noticed one of the waitstaff (female) was still there by herself after working earlier in the day and her family was no longer with her and she was quite inebriated and clearly over served. I spoke to her and offered her a ride home which she accepted. Unfortunately the man paying for all of her drinks thought he was going to take her home and got mad and aggressive towards me, which I said I would tell the manager, Kim, then he proceeded to make up a story to Kim about the situation. I spoke to Kim about what was going on and all I was doing was trying to make sure she got home safely. It was agreed by management that the man was not taking her home and that she was to be taken to her home by me and we left. Today 15 Feb 2023 I arrive only to be told I am no longer welcome there because of the incident and not told of any specifics because I know my behavior was not in a bad way. It saddens me that you would ban a regular for looking out for your waitstaff because apparently the management there doesn't care about what can or could have happened in the situation. The guys reaction alone should have thrown up red flags because who acts like that when someone else offers a clearly inebriated person a ride home and then blows up the situation by being aggressive, cussing me out and making up a bullshit story because now he's not getting laid and spent all the money on her to get her fucked up. His reaction alone made the situation unsafe for not only her but myself and all of your waitstaff. I could see if I actually did something wrong but being punished for some dudes childish reaction because he couldn't get laid and causing the whole situation is ridiculous. Way to go Hickory Tavern. Is this restaurant under new management? This used be a great restaurant. We walked in and there are tables with dirty dishes on them and they never were cleaned up the whole time we were there. Nothing like smelling peoples half eaten food right next to you. We ordered the BBQ Nachos without cilantro and scallions. When the order came out it has an absurd amount of cilantro and scallions. They took them back and they fixed new ones. By the time they were almost finished my bf was finished with his meal so we took them to go. Of course, the jalapeños and sour cream were never put on them. (It's really dark in the restaurant so I didn't realize until we were home. While the service was good, my burger was overdone and they forgot to add the ordered bacon. They lacked the dry vermouth to make a martini, but charged a martini price for vodka on the rocks. There several employees on the patio at another table. Some were off duty and some were not. We finished our meals and our drinks and were not acknowledged by anyone. We waited about 20 minutes. Then I saw our server coming out. But after she came out onto the patio she pulled her cell phone out of her pocket, never looked at us and went to the table where the rest of the employees were hanging out. My family used to live in the area when I was in high school. Hicory Tavern was one of our go-to spots. It is family friendly and golfer friendly. The food was always good as well as the service. As a result it can get busy from time to time. However, if you are in town and want to have a beer and eat some bar food than I would recommend this place. Good burgers also! Found this place on yelp and did delivery as we had had a tough family day. Ordered three burgers and all were cooked properly and still hot upon arrival. Fries and tater tots were disappointing. Tots were kind of squishy and cold as well as the fries. Mom ordered a do it yourself salad and it was HUGE and she was stuffed when finished. Overall not bad but not the greatest. read more

It's been a couple of years since I was in Pinehurst. I was looking for a place to get some lunch. I saw my first review of Hickory Tavern. The food had been good, but the service had been TERRIBLE! I decided to try again. I was greeted and seated without a wait. My server, Jordan, greeted me and took my drink order. I settled down with the menu. I have been neglecting my veggies lately, so I decided to get a salad. I chose the "Small Tavern Salad". The menu said it was made with romaine lettuce and eggs. I asked Jordan to have my salad made with just iceberg lettuce and no eggs. While she put in my salad order, I took a sip of my drink, a Coke. I think they had the mix wrong as it was a little flat. When Jordan brought my salad, I asked to trade my Coke for an iced tea, half and half. She traded my drink right away and brought my salad. "Small" is kind of misleading. It's a pretty big salad. It had a nice amount of small diced tomatoes, ham, and bacon, and a generous handful of toasted almonds. GREAT SALAD! Jordan came back and took the rest of my order - French Dip, fries and another veggie. asparagus. I had enough time to almost finish my salad when my meal was brought out. Roast beef, good size sandwich filled with tender, still some pink, roast beef. Fries, nice. thick cut, natural (not peeled) potatoes were very crisp but tender inside. Asparagus, cooked great for my taste. Throughout my meal, Jordan checked on me; not intrusive, just making sure I didn't need anything. I drink slowly so I didn't need the refill she brought me. All things considered, I had a very nice lunch. Jordan's attention to my needs more than made up for the problems of my first visit. This is our second time eating at Hickory Tavern. I doubt we'll be back. First - the good. My husband's Delmonico Steak and loaded baked potato were excellent and so was my daughter's Fiesta Salad. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive when she was at our table. Bathrooms were clean. Now, the not so good. We were told by our waitress when she came to take our order that they just got slammed and the food might take 30 minutes or longer to be prepared. That's when things started sliding downhill at breakneck pace. Our waitress was so busy that we had to ask other staff for silverware. We had to ask four times!! My husband finally gave up and ate his pre-dinner salad with the soup spoon that came with his coffee. It took the promised "long time" for our entrees to arrive - about 40-45 minutes from when we ordered. Then when his steak arrived, they had put chips on his plate instead of a baked potato - which is normally not an issue - you just tell the server and they fix it - right?!. Well, we immediately notified the person that delivered his steak (who was not actually our waitress) of the error and asked for silverware again since the first 3 requests did not work. The silverware was finally delivered but it took so long to deliver the forgotten baked potato that he had finished all but one bite of his steak when it finally arrived. My fish tacos were average - fish was nicely cooked and toppings were fresh but sauce was a little on the bland side. The patio where we ate really needed to be cleaned - floor had trash on it and tables needed to be wiped down. The carpet on the inside looks tired and smells like old beer. The waitress told us that they had been pretty slow until just before we arrived so I'm guessing that the staff should have used that time to sweep up and roll some extra silverware - just saying. So to sum it up - the food, service and cleanliness were all hit and miss all in this one visit. read more

Drinks were not as advertised. Got what we thought was the wrong drink, I think it was the right drink but did t have all the fruit and mint as advertised. Sent it back, still wasn't the same drink and they just added the fruit and mint in the same drink. It was the wrong fruit.
