We were very disappointed with the Hickory Tavern in Southern Pines NC. We stopped in after golf for a little lunch. Ordered oysters among 3 other dishes. When the oysters arrived we were told they did not have any horse radish. If we knew that before delivery we would not have ordered them. The hot sauce brought to us was dirty around the top. The waitress, with all the tattoos was not very friendly to help things along. Sorry we inconvenienced her with going there. The men's bathroom did not have any hand towels after having sticky fingers. I screwed up by not complaining to a supervisor. I did leave a 20% tip that I now regret after thinking about the service. I believe our server was ALEXIS. The place was not busy for a Saturday afternoon. Very disappointed after our last experience with good food and good service. It will be a long time before we go back. There is an oyster bar near Outback where we will go next time. read more

Just ordered it from door dash the shrimp dish was 10$ and all I received is 4 shrimps and 2 pieces of broccoli with it. The order of wings was supposed to be half and half instead it was 5 teriyaki and 3 medium. Prob won't order or go there. read more

Great sports bar with TV's everywhere!! It doesn't matter what sport you want to watch, it's guaranteed to be on one of those big screens. The food has greatly improved from when they first opened. The house made chips are always crispy and warm. Chicken Colorado is to die for. I like the build your own salads and the hubby loves their vast selection of beer. Wait staff is always attentive and friendly. Service is usually quick as well. Managers are always present and checking on tables. We really like this place. Great beer selection, wine specials, and the food is great. I really don't know about some of these negative reviews. When in town we go here first. The oysters are fresh, the ahi tuna is great (get the appetizer not the entree), my son loves the Reuben, my daughter loves the salads and nachos, it's all great. Nothing beats a warm spring day sitting on the patio. (We don't have warm spring days in Ohio, so maybe that's part of my love for this place.). Definitely beats the other places nearby. read more

Great service..I had shrimp tacos they were wonderful. Tavern chips were a little too crispy and brown. My hubby had buffalo chicken tacos they were great. We had waters. $25 dollars including tip great deal for dinner. read more

They need to work on the BBQ chicken nachos! It was BBQ sauce poured onto the chips and some tiny chicken pieces at the bottom of the bowl if you could tolerate it long enough to get to the bottom. It was all shoved into a very small soup bowl. According to the server it's better if you get the large size. Yuk! Just get the burger! read more

They have a good selection of food and an extensive craft beer menu. Most of my time there has been spent on one of the two outside patios where you can smoke. This is a great place to check out if you are in the area but I recommend staying away if it is a football or UFC night because that place gets PACKED and it seems like they don't have the staff to keep up with the rush, otherwise it is a good place to hangout and grab a pint or a bite to eat. read more

Sorry to give this place two stars, but I have given this place three chances now. Every time I'm just a little more disappointed. The wings are decent, but the service is sub par at best and everything else I've tried was mediocre. Took me and my gf 40 minutes to get two entrees; well wings and a French dip. I've been going to this restaurant for 3 years. Went recently and I will never return. We were sat at a table and ordered within 10-15 min. We waited another 45-60 min for our food, waitress kept saying oh your food will be right out. After the 4th time she said that and asked if she could get us anything, I just said our food because we were hungry. Manager came over after that, used the hurricane as an excuse for not having enough staff. Food finally came out (salad and turkey sandwich) then the people sitting right behind us (had been there maybe 20 min) got their food (burgers and fries). Obviously the manager was lying to us, we mentioned to him that we felt annoyed because we felt we were lied to and that we would not be returning after going to this restaurant for 3 y. Hickory Tavern has a wide selection of dishes on the menu. The majority have been fairly good. The beer selection is usually great. This is one of the best places to go watch sports. The waitstaff is pretty good. If you are in the mood for a game and a beer, this is not a bad spot to be. read more

I really liked this place. Great for a Sunday Funday. We went on a Sunday around 1pm, it was pretty busy due to Sunday football (which I could care less about). The place was huge!!! Couldn't really tell from the outside. Typical looking sports bar. We sat outside since it was such a lovely day. Good choice on our part, I guess minus the smokers. Ugh! The waiter was super nice, and was very attentive. I got a chicken sandwich and my boyf got a burger, both were great!!! The wings were delish!!! Food is as average as it gets, hence the 3 stars. Just because you are a sports bar doesn't mean you get a free pass on food quality. Crab Dip appetizer and fish tacos and my favorite eats. Unwashed/gritty lettuce, burnt chicken and stale Chinese noodles the first time. WAY over cooked burger, microwaved bbq pork and servers that cared more about getting "cut" then providing customer service on my next visit. This should be a 1 1/2 stars because 2 is too generous. Lets start with the over all odor of this place....old stale beer, old stale wet mop and food spills onto the carpeted floor! I wanted to walk out right then and there but we were hungry so we stayed. We started with the BBQ chicken nachos. I am not a fan of these flavors together so I can't give my opinion. But hubby and daughter really liked them and they seemed to have a lot of toppings. For entrees we ordered, wings for the hubby, smothered chicken for me with extra mushrooms and the Buffalo chicken sandwich for our daughter. The wings and the chicken sandwich came out first and I told the family to dig in. Hubbies wings were odd and not in a good way. They don't fry their wings, they put them in a big open fire oven. So the result is a little rubbery in some places and very well cooked in others. Our daughters sandwich was ok-nothing special. When my dish finally came out it was covered in ONIONS NOT SHROOMS! and this was not our servers fault. And the onions were not fully cooked so they completely over powered the dish. We called the waitress over and had her take the dish back to the kitchen. She offered to have the kitchen refire a new dish but hubby was half way thought his wings and daughter was half way through her sandwich so by the time my dish was remade and brought out the family would be done. One of the managers came over to apologize for the mess up and offered to bring anything else and also said they were going to take the dish off the bill. Over all this place is a low quality sports bar....so I guess if you drink enough booze or beer the food here might taste good. We won't be back! read more

This place is always chaos. I've been there numerous times and the service is awful. You most likely will only get checked on three times through the whole dinner. The burgers are filled with so much grease. On one occasion I asked to send it back and it came back with even more grease. The manager came over and apologized but did nothing to correct this. I didn't want it taken off the bill, just corrected. The only good side to this place is on game days. The price isn't worth a grease filled plate. The tables are generally sticky and the menus are gross. Serious management change needs to happen. I don't want anyone to think that the whole wait staff sucks because there are VERY FEW who are good. Come here on game days, though! read more

I am from Southern Pines but don't live here anymore. My mom was in the hospital and her nurse suggested we try Hickory Tavern for dinner on our break from the hospital. The service was wonderful and the food was amazing!! The manager, Anthony, happened to stop by our table to check on things and I casually mentioned my mom was in the hospital and it was our first time there. When I asked for the check the waitress said it was taken care of. The manager came over and said he hoped my mom felt better. I would have written a positive review regardless bc it was great but this was over and beyond! You don't find service and nice people like this very often! You won't be disappointed!! read more

First visit to any Hickory Tavern. Atmosphere was great with lots of nice TVs and a large animated crowd. Good selection of beers and friendly staff. The bee sting wings and chicken salad sandwich were both delicious. I felt like prices were high compared to Buffalo Wild Wings. Probably due to lack of local competition. Overall great place. Minus 1 star for prices. I will go back. read more
